Senior Project Engineer (Nov 2012 - Now) Qatar Petroleum District Project
ASTAD Project Management
Doha – Qatar QPD is located in the West Bay Area of Doha and will be identified as
Qatar Petroleum Headquarters in State of Qatar. The development
consists of 9 Office Towers, a Hotel Tower, Energy Centre, Auditorium,
Basement and Elevated parking etc. The campus will accommodate all
QP facilities that currently are distributed within City of Doha.
QP required facilities in QPD consist of office buildings, common shared
facilities, staff and visitor parking and all other building services. The office
buildings will accommodate all QP directorates and departments, located
within nine towers. Staff and visitor parking and all other building services
will be located below and above ground level. It shall be noted that the
General Services Department of QP follows specific corporate office
standards that are required to be followed and implemented.
The QPD office buildings (nine towers) will accommodate the Managing
Director’s Suite and secured offices spaces / support for all other
directorates and departments with approximately 8,800 personnel which
varies between directors, managers, senior staff, etc.
The interconnecting lower levels (ground and podium) will accommodate
entire common shared facilities which will be operated by approximately
700 QP personnel. Some of these facilities are restricted from the public
while others are considered open to the public during normal security
operations.
The overall parking on basements levels below the campus including the
central and southwest parking buildings will be entirely used for QP staff
and visitors.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Supervision of Subordinates
 Organize and supervise the activities and work of
subordinates to ensure that all work within assigned
Construction area is carried out in an efficient manner which
is consistent with operating procedures and policy.
 Provide on-the-job training and constructive feedback to
subordinates to support their overall development.
Budgets and Plans
 Contribute to the preparation of the budget and monitor
financial performance versus the budget so that the business
is aware of anticipated costs/revenues.
 Monitor the financial performance of assigned Construction
area versus budgets so that areas of unsatisfactory
performance are identified and corrective actions are taken.
Management of third party consultants
 Manage the overall performance of construction
management consultants of the project ensuring that that
their performance is reviewed in a timely manner and
reported to Senior PM for escalation.
 Manage PM/CM contracts for different projects as assigned
and oversee the performance of PM/CM Consultants.
Bids & Tenders
 Undertake the preparation of the final construction tender
documents as well as consultancy services tenders as and
when required; and the tender issue process. Respond to
tender queries as needed, and manage and prepare the
technical tender evaluation and participate in the negotiation
and award.
 Review Civil Engineering, Infrastructure and Building works
aspects of bids from Construction Contractors for his
functional area of work and that of his subordinates.
 Review technical submissions of consultants in specially
assigned consultancy services contracts in collaboration with
the Design Management team and that of his subordinates.
 Manage the Tender Evaluation Committee in identifying and
assessing capability, resources and strengths of Consultants,
in the evaluation of technical bids, and chairs the Tender
Evaluation Committee meetings as nominated by the Senior
PM or Director CM.
 Prepare and compile the Technical Tender Evaluation
Reports
 As requested by Senior PM or Director CM, report to and
attend Client’s Tender Committee meetings in support of
clarifications, requested there from, related to Civil
Engineering, Infrastructure and Building works matters.
Construction Engineering
 Monitor planning and cost control schedules. Support
CM/LPE to assess and negotiate on contractor’s additional
cost and time claims arising throughout the duration of the
contract and extending to completion.
 Participate in the validation of the Design basis, area
utilization, selection of essential standards, scheme layout for

zoning of buildings and infrastructure, building facilities,
concepts, philosophies, outline schedules, sequencing of
activities, techno-economic studies, ease of maintenance,
safe and environmental acceptability, and construction
completion and procurement strategies.
 Participate in or undertake the development of Scope of
Work (SOW), specifications and design criteria for facilities
and infrastructure projects, based on overall constructability
aspect/input, for inclusion in tenders for Engineering
Consultancy and/or Construction /Procurement Contracts.
 Participate as requested in the committee to identify and
assess capability resources and technical strengths of
Consulting Site Engineers, Project/Construction managers,
Vendors, sub-contractor Engineering Companies and
Construction Contractors; and approve as per the delegation
of authority assignments
 Review various method statements, shop drawings during
construction phase and submit for approval.
 Participate in design during detailed engineering of to provide
constructability and maintainability, as appropriate, for
structural & Utilities/services design, fabrication, testing,
installation and commissioning procedures for all the
structures & Facilities of the project, which often involves
sites visits.
 Oversee and manage when required the pre-commissioning,
commissioning and start-up procedures/sequences both in
the design process and subsequently in the construction
tender & contracts stages.
 Initiate and Manager the Contractual Work Change Requests
and Variations to Contract from inception to approval,
including reviews of scopes and specifications, legal and cost
evaluation of ASTAD’s strategy and Contractors’ responses,
towards negotiation on a final agreement.
 Contribute as key member of the principal committee
established to determine Corporate Execution Strategy of the
Project packages covering planning, sequencing of
construction schedules and procurement.
 Carryout role of a key member to manage and control all
resources to ensure that ASTAD targets for the protection of
the environment and the safety, health and security of
personnel and/ or facilities engaged on the Projects are
achieved, including obtaining LEED / BREEAM certification
of the completed works.
 Monitor site control procedures for progress reporting, man-
hours, lost time incidents, headcount, site supervision,
construction safety practices, work permits, performance
tests, and entry/exit formalities for Contractors &
Construction personnel / materials.
 Conduct meetings with contractors, consultants and
designers, as and when necessary, to review progress on
weekly and occasionally more frequent basis. Analyse &
address critical areas of progress / delays in construction,
procurement, resource mobilization and any other area of
shortcomings.
 Proactively measure and maintain strict follow-up for
mitigation of impact of any delays / constraints for work front /
progress of the work. Anticipate and report on areas of

concern in management & supervision activities including
checking on mobilization of adequate resources of main and
subcontractors at site. Resolve, with all concerned parties,
any issues related to the subcontractor(s)/main contractor(s)
activities that may affect safety, quality, progress & cost.
 Review and sign off on validation and certification of the
invoices raised by the contractors for release of payments.
Coordinate and report progress of works to senior
management in terms of milestones, expenditure based
cumulative percent progress reporting, look ahead strategy
planning, etc.
 Administer the preparation of a check / punch list of jobs
during mechanical completion stage and ensures their
progressive clearance by the contractors.
 Plan full sequential commissioning of buildings / facilities,
and ensure availability of commissioning and start up
resources and spare parts.
 Mobilize/Demobilize contractor’s and Consultant’s site
personnel, site offices.
 Assist in smooth handing-over of office accommodation and
facilities to the Asset Holder and re-location/movement of
staff to the newly commissioned facility.
 Implement Project Management reporting standards and
procedures for effective and efficient management of
projects.
 Implement adequate reporting and performance
management systems to analyze and follow-up on project(s)’
performance, i.e. to include production data, project
costs/billings, subcontractor’s performance etc. and apply
effective systems, process, people and machinery
accordingly to ensure smooth operations of all concerned
projects.
July 2006 – November 2012 : Working at DAR Al Handasah for six years enriched my knowledge and
experience by working on high profile projects including the Pearl-Qatar
the most prestigious development in the Middle East.
Senior Architect (Jan 2012 – Nov 2012) The Pearl Qatar - TCOM
DAR AL-HANDASAH CONSULTANTS
(shair & partners), Doha – Qatar Senior Architect and team member of DAR Al Handasah TCOM team,
which is concerned with setting the construction and building regulations
and policies throughout the Pearl of Qatar project for non UDC
developers.
My responsibility ranges from setting the building regulations and policies
for the ongoing and future projects in the Pearl of Qatar project, in terms
of built up areas, ground coverage areas, heights, parking allocations,
setbacks and theme of buildings.
Maintain the Pearl of Qatar project Theme as a Mediterranean
architectural style, in terms of design, colors, materials used in
construction and image.
Respect the local environmental conditions of our semi-dry climate in all
developments in the Pearl of Qatar projects, and reduce the heating and

cooling loads and electricity consumption by creative architectural
solutions.
Work closely with consultants in developing major projects in the Pearl of
Qatar through assuring that the design is following the international
building codes and NFPA.
Project Manager (April 2011 – Dec 2011) Qatar Foundation - Qatar Academy School in Wakrah

(shair & partners), Doha – Qatar A very high profile, fast track project for Qatar Foundation, the biggest
educational establishment in the Middle East, where it was mandatory to
renovate an old school of six thousand square meter within a project
duration of 5 months only, and up to the high standards and specification
of Qatar Academy School, with a project allocated budget of 56 million
Qatari Riyals.
The Project was a great challenge, where we had to strip the building to
its concrete structure and rebuild it again with all finishing, MEP &
landscape works with such a short time frame, We succeeded in meeting
the dead line and within the allocated budget and the school was opened
for the academic year of 2001-2012.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Administering the Contract by reporting to the employer on all issues
concerning the Contract progress, performance index, cost index, quality
of works and advising the Employer on all financial, contractual, technical
issues and site problems.
Proposing and evaluating design modifications and changes to overcome
design conflicts at site, also evaluating and recommending alternative
materials to expedite the work progress and maintaining a tight control on
project cost.
Continuously monitoring contractor’s performance, project budget,
material submissions, work procedures, shop drawings and
correspondence
Evaluating and managing the contractor’s legal and financial claims,
variations, monthly valuations and Final Accounts, including closeout
documents and project closeout procedures.
Project Manager (Aug. 2008 – Mar. 2011). The Pearl Qatar – Porto Arabia
DAR AL-HANDASAH CONSULTANTS
(shair & partners), Doha – Qatar The Pearl Qatar is the most prestigious project in the Middle East, being
constructed on an entirely man-made island of some 4 million square
meters offshore to the north of the Capital, Doha. It comprises over 20
individual precincts of branded residential and commercial property which
will accommodate, upon completion, over 45 thousands residents in
villas, townhouses; high and low rise apartments and palaces. The total
built-up-area of the project will amount to around 7 million square meter,
including over 250 thousands square meter of entertainment, retail and
F&B outlets, supported by six luxury hotels, beach clubs and spas.
The island is being developed with an active awareness of environmental
issues and “green” solutions including energy conservation, waste
management, communications, security, etc., employing state-of-the-art
technology throughout the design and implementation process.

I Worked on several packages during my term in the Porto Arabia Project,
among them are:
Parcel 01 Retail Node; Parcel 02 & 03 Town House and Retail
Low rise townhouses (45 apartments, simplex, duplex and triplex)
Commercial Mall and Commercial strip underneath fronting a continuous
boardwalk with 25 thousand square meter built-up area, allocated budget
300 million Qatari Riyals.
During the course of this project, the original contractor was terminated
for quality issues and we went through the termination, International legal
& arbitration process, which were a unique experience and a great
addition to my knowledge.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Administering the Contract by reporting to the employer on all issues
concerning the Contract progress, performance index, cost index, quality
of works and advising the Employer on all financial, contractual, technical
issues and site problems.
Managing the termination process of the original contractor, by
documenting all poor quality works, deviation from contract, issuance of
warning letters and termination letter to the contractor.
Assessing the legal team in building the case in the international
arbitration process against the terminated contractor, and evaluating the
cost of rectifying the poor quality works and the cost to complete the
project.
Managing the retendering process by preparing a new work scope &
specifications for retendering the project, replaying to contractor’s
inquiries, evaluating contractor’s technical and financial proposals and
submitting recommendation of the suitable contractor to the client.
Managing a cost plus contract, by conducting market cost study and
closely reviewing and approving contractor’s bills and claims.
Proposing and evaluating design modifications and changes to overcome
design conflicts at site, also evaluating and recommending alternative
materials to expedite the work progress and maintaining a tight control on
project cost.
Managing mitigation studies aimed at crushing the project time line and
expediting completion of the project.
Continuously monitoring contractor’s performance, project budget,
material submissions, work procedures, shop drawings and
correspondence
Evaluating and managing the contractor’s legal and financial claims,
variations, monthly valuations and Final Accounts, including closeout
documents and project closeout procedures.
During the course of this project I was also managing other small projects
in parallel, some of them are:
The Pearl of Qatar Temporary Mosque and Prayer Halls

Temporary Mosque for 300 worshippers, in the Pearl of Qatar Project,
Fast Track project (was completed in 75 days), allocated budget 3 million
Qatari Riyals.
Media Signage and Bus Shelters
Installation of media signage (Media signage, Mega Billboards, Mupi,
Way Finding and Bus Shelters) all over Porto Arabia, allocated budget 18
million Qatari Riyals.
Senior Architect (Jun 2006 – Aug. 2008) The Pearl Qatar – Porto Arabia

(shair & partners), Doha – Qatar Porto Arabia is the focal point of the Pearl project, it has a spectacular
yacht harbor capable of berthing over 1000 vessels including super
yachts of 60m and above, 4 km board walk with continuous shopping and
retail strip all along, 8 malls, 18 town houses and 31 towers.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Evaluating and approving contractors, subcontractors and suppliers, by
conducting visits to their facilities and warehouses in bond and out of
bond, checking their capacities and quality of work, QA/QC practices.
Technical support to site teams by reviewing and approving material
submittals, method statements, site mockups and shop drawings.
Reviewing and approving alternative material proposals and value
engineering proposals submitted by contractors.
Handling site clarifications and design conflicts between different
declines, which require redesign or material modifications.
Studying and issuing specification modifications, design changes, work
orders and site instructions.
Partner/Architect (2004-2006) Co-managed a contracting family firm for 2 years, specialized in real-
ABUGHAIDAH CONTRACTING & TRADING estate development for the residential sector in the state of Qatar, during
Doha – Qatar which I was Full time architect for all company real estate development
projects.
I was also involved in evaluating real-estate properties, feasibility studies
for real estate development projects and studying market trends and
needs in real estate sector.

In addition to the above I was in charge of staffing, interviewing candidate
employees & hiring required expertise.
Partner/Executive Manager (1998-2004) Managing partner for a private Architectural office for 6 years in the state
AL SHARQ CONSULTING ENGINEERING of Qatar where I was handling the design process from conceptual phase
Doha – Qatar till full completion of design and supervision works.

I was also in charge for business development and securing continuous
design and supervision projects to the firm besides handling public
relation duties.
Design development, coordinating with all structural and
electromechanical designers on every project to assure smooth
development and neat results.
Managing the tendering process by preparing tender documents work

contractor’s inquiries, evaluating contractor’s technical and financial
proposals and submitting recommendation of the suitable contractor to
the client
Architect, (June, 1992 – August, 1998) Worked on various projects as part of design team, responsible for
AMMAN CONSULTING ENG. & PLANNING OFF Conceptual design, design development, detailed working drawings
Amman - Jordan and Architectural presentation, rendering and 3 D modeling.
I was also involved in supervision and site inspections on all site works.
SUMMARY OF CAPABILITIES :
Twenty four years of experience in architecture and project management in the Middle East, I have worked on wide
variety of high end projects with the highest standards with local and international consultants and contractors.
My experience in project management was enriched specifically during my service at ASTAD Project Management &
Dar Al Handasah over the last 10 years where I undertook lots of challenging projects, ranging from Fit-out Projects,
fast track project, Cost plus Projects, Terminating contracts and contributed to the creation of the first manmade island
in Qatar.

QP required facilities in QPD consist of office buildings, common shared facilities, staff and visitor parking and all other building services. The office buildings will accommodate all QP directorates and departments, located within nine towers. Staff and visitor parking and all other building services will be located below and above ground level. It shall be noted that the General Services Department of QP follows specific corporate office standards that are required to be followed and implemented. The QPD office buildings (nine towers) will accommodate the Managing Director’s Suite and secured offices spaces / support for all other directorates and departments with approximately 8,800 personnel which varies between directors, managers, senior staff, etc. The interconnecting lower levels (ground and podium) will accommodate entire common shared facilities which will be operated by approximately 700 QP personnel. Some of these facilities are restricted from the public while others are considered open to the public during normal security operations. Roles and Responsibilities: Supervision of Subordinates  Organize and supervise the activities and work of subordinates to ensure that all work within assigned Construction area is carried out in an efficient manner which is consistent with operating procedures and policy.  Provide on-the-job training and constructive feedback to subordinates to support their overall development. Budgets and Plans  Contribute to the preparation of the budget and monitor financial performance versus the budget so that the business is aware of anticipated costs/revenues.  Monitor the financial performance of assigned Construction area versus budgets so that areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified and corrective actions are taken. Management of third party consultants  Manage the overall performance of construction management consultants of the project ensuring that that their performance is reviewed in a timely manner and reported to Senior PM for escalation.  Manage PM/CM contracts for different projects as assigned and oversee the performance of PM/CM Consultants. Bids & Tenders  Undertake the preparation of the final construction tender documents as well as consultancy services tenders as and when required; and the tender issue process. Respond to tender queries as needed, and manage and prepare the technical tender evaluation and participate in the negotiation and award.  Review Civil Engineering, Infrastructure and Building works aspects of bids from Construction Contractors for his functional area of work and that of his subordinates.  Review technical submissions of consultants in specially assigned consultancy services contracts in collaboration with the Design Management team and that of his subordinates.  Manage the Tender Evaluation Committee in identifying and assessing capability, resources and strengths of Consultants, in the evaluation of technical bids, and chairs the Tender Evaluation Committee meetings as nominated by the Senior PM or Director CM.  Prepare and compile the Technical Tender Evaluation Reports  As requested by Senior PM or Director CM, report to and attend Client’s Tender Committee meetings in support of clarifications, requested there from, related to Civil Engineering, Infrastructure and Building works matters. Construction Engineering  Monitor planning and cost control schedules. Support CM/LPE to assess and negotiate on contractor’s additional cost and time claims arising throughout the duration of the contract and extending to completion.  Participate in the validation of the Design basis, area utilization, selection of essential standards, scheme layout for Alaa Y.   • 3. zoning of buildings and infrastructure, building facilities, concepts, philosophies, outline schedules, sequencing of activities, techno-economic studies, ease of maintenance, safe and environmental acceptability, and construction completion and procurement strategies.  Participate in or undertake the development of Scope of Work (SOW), specifications and design criteria for facilities and infrastructure projects, based on overall constructability aspect/input, for inclusion in tenders for Engineering Consultancy and/or Construction /Procurement Contracts.  Participate as requested in the committee to identify and assess capability resources and technical strengths of Consulting Site Engineers, Project/Construction managers, Vendors, sub-contractor Engineering Companies and Construction Contractors; and approve as per the delegation of authority assignments  Review various method statements, shop drawings during construction phase and submit for approval.  Participate in design during detailed engineering of to provide constructability and maintainability, as appropriate, for structural & Utilities/services design, fabrication, testing, installation and commissioning procedures for all the structures & Facilities of the project, which often involves sites visits.  Oversee and manage when required the pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up procedures/sequences both in the design process and subsequently in the construction tender & contracts stages.  Initiate and Manager the Contractual Work Change Requests and Variations to Contract from inception to approval, including reviews of scopes and specifications, legal and cost evaluation of ASTAD’s strategy and Contractors’ responses, towards negotiation on a final agreement.  Contribute as key member of the principal committee established to determine Corporate Execution Strategy of the Project packages covering planning, sequencing of construction schedules and procurement.  Carryout role of a key member to manage and control all resources to ensure that ASTAD targets for the protection of the environment and the safety, health and security of personnel and/ or facilities engaged on the Projects are achieved, including obtaining LEED / BREEAM certification of the completed works.  Monitor site control procedures for progress reporting, man- hours, lost time incidents, headcount, site supervision, construction safety practices, work permits, performance tests, and entry/exit formalities for Contractors & Construction personnel / materials.  Conduct meetings with contractors, consultants and designers, as and when necessary, to review progress on weekly and occasionally more frequent basis. Analyse & address critical areas of progress / delays in construction, procurement, resource mobilization and any other area of shortcomings.  Proactively measure and maintain strict follow-up for mitigation of impact of any delays / constraints for work front / progress of the work.   • 4. concern in management & supervision activities including checking on mobilization of adequate resources of main and subcontractors at site. Resolve, with all concerned parties, any issues related to the subcontractor(s)/main contractor(s) activities that may affect safety, quality, progress & cost.  Review and sign off on validation and certification of the invoices raised by the contractors for release of payments. Coordinate and report progress of works to senior management in terms of milestones, expenditure based cumulative percent progress reporting, look ahead strategy planning, etc.  Administer the preparation of a check / punch list of jobs during mechanical completion stage and ensures their progressive clearance by the contractors.  Plan full sequential commissioning of buildings / facilities, and ensure availability of commissioning and start up resources and spare parts.  Mobilize/Demobilize contractor’s and Consultant’s site personnel, site offices.  Assist in smooth handing-over of office accommodation and facilities to the Asset Holder and re-location/movement of staff to the newly commissioned facility.  Implement Project Management reporting standards and procedures for effective and efficient management of projects.  Implement adequate reporting and performance management systems to analyze and follow-up on project(s)’ performance, i.e. to include production data, project costs/billings, subcontractor’s performance etc. and apply effective systems, process, people and machinery accordingly to ensure smooth operations of all concerned projects. July 2006 – November 2012 : Working at DAR Al Handasah for six years enriched my knowledge and experience by working on high profile projects including the Pearl-Qatar the most prestigious development in the Middle East. Senior Architect (Jan 2012 – Nov 2012) The Pearl Qatar - TCOM DAR AL-HANDASAH CONSULTANTS (shair & partners), Doha – Qatar Senior Architect and team member of DAR Al Handasah TCOM team, which is concerned with setting the construction and building regulations and policies throughout the Pearl of Qatar project for non UDC developers. My responsibility ranges from setting the building regulations and policies for the ongoing and future projects in the Pearl of Qatar project, in terms of built up areas, ground coverage areas, heights, parking allocations, setbacks and theme of buildings. Maintain the Pearl of Qatar project Theme as a Mediterranean architectural style, in terms of design, colors, materials used in construction and image. Respect the local environmental conditions of our semi-dry climate in all developments in the Pearl of Qatar projects, and reduce the heating and Alaa Y. Abughaidah– Page 4 of 8

Work closely with consultants in developing major projects in the Pearl of Qatar through assuring that the design is following the international building codes and NFPA. Project Manager (April 2011 – Dec 2011) Qatar Foundation - Qatar Academy School in Wakrah DAR AL-HANDASAH CONSULTANTS (shair & partners), Doha – Qatar A very high profile, fast track project for Qatar Foundation, the biggest educational establishment in the Middle East, where it was mandatory to renovate an old school of six thousand square meter within a project duration of 5 months only, and up to the high standards and specification of Qatar Academy School, with a project allocated budget of 56 million Qatari Riyals. The Project was a great challenge, where we had to strip the building to its concrete structure and rebuild it again with all finishing, MEP & landscape works with such a short time frame, We succeeded in meeting the dead line and within the allocated budget and the school was opened for the academic year of 2001-2012. Roles and Responsibilities: Administering the Contract by reporting to the employer on all issues concerning the Contract progress, performance index, cost index, quality of works and advising the Employer on all financial, contractual, technical issues and site problems. Continuously monitoring contractor’s performance, project budget, material submissions, work procedures, shop drawings and correspondence Evaluating and managing the contractor’s legal and financial claims, variations, monthly valuations and Final Accounts, including closeout documents and project closeout procedures. Project Manager (Aug. 2008 – Mar. 2011). The Pearl Qatar – Porto Arabia DAR AL-HANDASAH CONSULTANTS (shair & partners), Doha – Qatar The Pearl Qatar is the most prestigious project in the Middle East, being constructed on an entirely man-made island of some 4 million square meters offshore to the north of the Capital, Doha. It comprises over 20 individual precincts of branded residential and commercial property which will accommodate, upon completion, over 45 thousands residents in villas, townhouses; high and low rise apartments and palaces. The total built-up-area of the project will amount to around 7 million square meter, including over 250 thousands square meter of entertainment, retail and F&B outlets, supported by six luxury hotels, beach clubs and spas. The island is being developed with an active awareness of environmental issues and “green” solutions including energy conservation, waste management, communications, security, etc., employing state-of-the-art technology throughout the design and implementation process. I Worked on several packages during my term in the Porto Arabia Project, among them are: Parcel 01 Retail Node; Parcel 02 & 03 Town House and Retail Low rise townhouses (45 apartments, simplex, duplex and triplex) Commercial Mall and Commercial strip underneath fronting a continuous boardwalk with 25 thousand square meter built-up area, allocated budget 300 million Qatari Riyals. During the course of this project, the original contractor was terminated for quality issues and we went through the termination, International legal & arbitration process, which were a unique experience and a great addition to my knowledge. Roles and Responsibilities: Administering the Contract by reporting to the employer on all issues concerning the Contract progress, performance index, cost index, quality of works and advising the Employer on all financial, contractual, technical issues and site problems. Managing the termination process of the original contractor, by documenting all poor quality works, deviation from contract, issuance of warning letters and termination letter to the contractor. Assessing the legal team in building the case in the international arbitration process against the terminated contractor, and evaluating the cost of rectifying the poor quality works and the cost to complete the project. Managing the retendering process by preparing a new work scope & specifications for retendering the project, replaying to contractor’s inquiries, evaluating contractor’s technical and financial proposals and submitting recommendation of the suitable contractor to the client. Managing a cost plus contract, by conducting market cost study and closely reviewing and approving contractor’s bills and claims. Proposing and evaluating design modifications and changes to overcome design conflicts at site, also evaluating and recommending alternative materials to expedite the work progress and maintaining a tight control on project cost. Managing mitigation studies aimed at crushing the project time line and expediting completion of the project. Continuously monitoring contractor’s performance, project budget, material submissions, work procedures, shop drawings and correspondence Evaluating and managing the contractor’s legal and financial claims, variations, monthly valuations and Final Accounts, including closeout documents and project closeout procedures. Media Signage and Bus Shelters Installation of media signage (Media signage, Mega Billboards, Mupi, Way Finding and Bus Shelters) all over Porto Arabia, allocated budget 18 million Qatari Riyals. Senior Architect (Jun 2006 – Aug. 2008) The Pearl Qatar – Porto Arabia DAR AL-HANDASAH CONSULTANTS (shair & partners), Doha – Qatar Porto Arabia is the focal point of the Pearl project, it has a spectacular yacht harbor capable of berthing over 1000 vessels including super yachts of 60m and above, 4 km board walk with continuous shopping and retail strip all along, 8 malls, 18 town houses and 31 towers. Roles and Responsibilities: Evaluating and approving contractors, subcontractors and suppliers, by conducting visits to their facilities and warehouses in bond and out of bond, checking their capacities and quality of work, QA/QC practices. Technical support to site teams by reviewing and approving material submittals, method statements, site mockups and shop drawings. Reviewing and approving alternative material proposals and value engineering proposals submitted by contractors. Handling site clarifications and design conflicts between different declines, which require redesign or material modifications. Studying and issuing specification modifications, design changes, work orders and site instructions. Partner/Architect (2004-2006) Co-managed a contracting family firm for 2 years, specialized in real- ABUGHAIDAH CONTRACTING & TRADING estate development for the residential sector in the state of Qatar, during Doha – Qatar which I was Full time architect for all company real estate development projects. I was also involved in evaluating real-estate properties, feasibility studies for real estate development projects and studying market trends and needs in real estate sector. . In addition to the above I was in charge of staffing, interviewing candidate employees & hiring required expertise. Partner/Executive Manager (1998-2004) Managing partner for a private Architectural office for 6 years in the state AL SHARQ CONSULTING ENGINEERING of Qatar where I was handling the design process from conceptual phase Doha – Qatar till full completion of design and supervision works. I was also involved in supervision and site inspections on all site works. SUMMARY OF CAPABILITIES : Twenty four years of experience in architecture and project management in the Middle East, I have worked on wide variety of high end projects with the highest standards with local and international consultants and contractors. My experience in project management was enriched specifically during my service at ASTAD Project Management & Dar Al Handasah over the last 10 years where I undertook lots of challenging projects, ranging from Fit-out Projects, fast track project, Cost plus Projects, Terminating contracts and contributed to the creation of the first manmade island in Qatar.
