WHAT IS COMMUNICATION?
Communication in it’s simplest form of conveying information, ideas
etc. from one person to another. Communication may be defined as an
interchange of thought or information to bring mutual understanding.

CHANNEL OF COMMUNICATION
Formal Communication : It refers to the official
communication which takes place following the chain of
command in the organization .It usually takes the form of
written communication such as notes, memos, letters etc.
Informal Communication : Communication between
individuals and groups which are noy officially recognised .
TYPES OF COMMUNICATION
• Downwards Communication :Flow
of info from Senior to subordinates, to
assign duties, give instructions, etc.
• Upwards Communications :Flow of
info from lower level to higher level, to
give feedback, to inform about
progress/problems, seeking approvals.
• Lateral or Horizontal
Communication :Among colleagues,
peers at same level ,promote social
relations to coordinate, etc. Downward

MEDIA OF COMMUNICATION
Oral communication : It involves exchange of messages
with the help of spoken words .It is generally informal in
nature.
Written communication : It is transmitted by written
words in the form of letters, memos, circular, reports etc.
It is generally formal in nature.
Gesture communication : Communication through
gestures is used as a means to supplement verbal
communication.
