PANTOMIMES

Proposal
I am going to be creating a radio podcast about
pantomimes. My main objective is to find out if
people enjoy participating in them, and if they
feel they get anything rewarding out of them at
the end.
I want my podcast to be like a segment from
Radio 1, when they interview celebrities, for
example when a film is released the stars of the
film will do interviews for radio.
Primary research
I created a survey on SurveyMonkey and then posted the link
on Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook and tagged the people I do
panto with, so I could gather their responses.
When I had a panto rehearsals I sat down with my cast mate
Nat and asked her a few questions.
Firstly I asked her about her experience throughout the years of
doing panto. She said about working her way up throughout
different roles. It was a chance for her to experience different
roles and find out which one she was comfortable with playing.
It was a semi structured interview that provided information that
I used to make my questionnaires. May T (2002) says “these
types of interviews are said to allow people to answer more on
their own terms than the standardized interview permits.”

The age graph shows the number of people
involved in pantomimes. And it shows that it is
mainly younger people that are involved.

The occupations of the people I asked
vary, most of them are either self
employed, administrative or sales assistants.
Secondary, qualitative research
Birmingham University has found that watching
pantomimes also has the same effect on people as
watching Strictly Come Dancing or The X-Factor.

Qualitative research
To collect qualitative research I created a survey
and asked some of the following questions

I asked these questions because I wanted a range of varied
answers, and the answers I got to these questions were all very
different, as some people said that they were influence by what they
saw, and wanted to be a part of it.
Conclusion
From my survey I have found out that the people that take
part in pantomimes are mainly women aged between 16 to
19.
When asked how they got involved in pantomime most of
the answers revolved around being influenced by family.
Also when asked how enjoyable they found rehearsals
leading up to the performances most of the answers were
over the rating of 8.
From the answers that I have collected, I have interpreted
that most of the people who answered feel that
pantomimes are rewarding.

Panto 3.0 2

  • 2. Proposal I am going to be creating a radio podcast about pantomimes. My main objective is to find out if people enjoy participating in them, and if they feel they get anything rewarding out of them at the end. I want my podcast to be like a segment from Radio 1, when they interview celebrities, for example when a film is released the stars of the film will do interviews for radio.
  • 3. Primary research I created a survey on SurveyMonkey and then posted the link on Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook and tagged the people I do panto with, so I could gather their responses. When I had a panto rehearsals I sat down with my cast mate Nat and asked her a few questions. Firstly I asked her about her experience throughout the years of doing panto. She said about working her way up throughout different roles. It was a chance for her to experience different roles and find out which one she was comfortable with playing. It was a semi structured interview that provided information that I used to make my questionnaires. May T (2002) says “these types of interviews are said to allow people to answer more on their own terms than the standardized interview permits.”

And it shows that it is mainly younger people that are involved. The occupations of the people I asked vary, most of them are either self employed, administrative or sales assistants.
  • 5. Secondary, qualitative research Birmingham University has found that watching pantomimes also has the same effect on people as watching Strictly Come Dancing or The X-Factor. This is a review from The Reporter Feb/21/2013 for the Pantomime Jack and Jill

Qualitative research To collect qualitative research I created a survey and asked some of the following questions I asked these questions because I wanted a range of varied answers, and the answers I got to these questions were all very different, as some people said that they were influence by what they saw, and wanted to be a part of it.
  • 8. Conclusion From my survey I have found out that the people that take part in pantomimes are mainly women aged between 16 to 19. When asked how they got involved in pantomime most of the answers revolved around being influenced by family. Also when asked how enjoyable they found rehearsals leading up to the performances most of the answers were over the rating of 8. From the answers that I have collected, I have interpreted that most of the people who answered feel that pantomimes are rewarding.
