JOB DESCRIPTION: To supportthe departmentoncivil engineeringprojectsthroughdesign,drafting,co-
ordination,constructionsupervision,contractdocumentationandtenderdocumentation.
JOB ROLE: My jobrole isto carry out tasks indesign,drafting,administration,resource management,
constructionmanagementandfinance.
- Design: to obtainrelevantinformationfrommunicipalities,client,architects,surveyors
whichwill allowtoundertake anengineeringdesign. Adhere toMunicipal guidelines.
ObtainClearance certificatesfromrelevantUtilities.
- Drafting : To produce a readable drawingstobe usedforconstruction,prepare AsBuilt
drawings.
- Administration: To prepare detailedBillsof Quantities, performall quantity
calculationsforBillsof Quantities, Tenderdocumentation,tenderadjudicationand
contract documentation andWayleave Applications.
- Resource Management: to co-ordinate meetings,tocompile correspondence,to
attendprogressmeetings,toattendsite meetingsandattendtosite queries.
- ConstructionManagement : To performsite inspections,monitoringandsupervision,
to tendto site queries.
- Finance : To provide fee allocationsasperECSA guidelines,tomonitorbudgetary
constraintsonprojects,checkcontractors claimcertificatesforpayment,verify
quantities,preparePaymentCertificatesforClienttopaycontractor.

1. MAROELADAL – THORNTREE DEVELOPMENT (phase 2)
ThisprojectentailsaresidentialdevelopmentforSable Homesdevelopers.Sivestwasappointedasthe
consultingcivil engineerstodesignservicesandprovide constructionsupervision. Priortothis,the first
phase of the developmentwasdesignedandconstructedsuccessfully.DuringJune 2014, SiVESTwas
officiallyappointedtocontinue withthe secondphaseof the development.The projectconstructioncost –
R3.8 million

- Designbulkearthworkplatforms,roads,sewerreticulation,stormwaterreticulationandwater
reticulation.Sincethiswasasecondphase to the project,I wasrequiredtodesignthisphase totie into
the existingfirstphase. IusedPipemate,Roadmate andSurfmate todesignthe civil services.
- Spreadsheetcalculationsforthe sewerpipe todetermine the hydraulicpropertiesof the systemto
adhere tomunicipal guidelines.
- Produce constructiondrawings,thatislayouts,longsections,sectionsanddetailsandtypical municipal
details.
- PreparingadetailedBill of Quantities.
- Calculatingthe quantitiesforBOQfortenderphase.
- Site supervisionduringconstruction
- Site inspectionsduringconstruction
- Preparingthe AsBuiltdrawingsforJohannesburgWatersubmission,toobtainaclearance letters.
- Attendingprogress meetingswiththe variousotherdisciplines.
- Verifyingcontractorsclaimcertificate.
- Confirmingthe contractorsPaymentCertificate forthe clientona monthlybasis.
- Performingsite inspectionspriortothe backfillingof pipe trenches.

2. CSIR – Roads andStormwaterUpgrades
Thisprojectwas forthe CSIRin Pretoria.The CSIRrequiredaRoadsand Stormwaterupgrade tobe done for
one of theirbuildings.Sivestwasappointedasthe consultingengineerstodesignandprovide construction
supervision.The projectconstructioncost –R1.0 million

- Designa pavedaccessroad and surface stormwaterreticulation.IusedRoadmate torunthe longsection
of the road.
- Designthe road layerworksasperthe Guidelinesforthe Provisionof EngineeringServicesinResidential
Townships.(foran8 ton truck)
- Providingasolutionforpondingwateraroundthe site.Detailingthe drainage solutioninaconstruction
drawingusingAutoCAD.Providingsectionsanddetailsforconstruction.

3. TransnetPipeline Depot
Thisprojectwas forTransnetPipelines.Aspartof a National upgrade forthe TransnetPipeline depots,
Sivestwasappointed toprovide aconsultingservice withregardstoStructural andCivil works.
The works includedanewguardhouse,new electricfencingalongthe perimeterof the depotyard,
additional parkingareasandgeneral civil worksaroundthe depot.The depotused aseptictanksystemto
discharge of waste butwas requiredtoremove the tankandinstall a new outfall sewerline.
TransnetPipeline requiresanewoutfall sewerforthe depotbasedinBartlett,Boksburg.Thisareais
currentlymanagedbythe Ekurhuleni MetropolitanMunicipality.Iwasgiventhe responsibilityof
undertakingthisprojectsrequirements.

- Surveyingof site,creatingadigital terrainmodelforuse inthe design.
- Creatingan excel spreadsheettoperformhydrauliccalculationstoensure designiswithinmunicipal
standards.
- Run the SewerlongsectionusingPipemate.
- Prepare AutoCADdrawingstosubmitforapproval tothe relevantmunicipality.
- Go throughproceduresforthe applicationof a Wayleave.
- Prepare a detailedBillof Quantities
- Attendprogressmeetingsforthe project.
- Make weeklyvisitstoprovide the contractorwithassistance onsite.
- Monitorwork on site andprovide updatestoclient.
4. Ga – RANKUWA FLOOD RISKASSESSMENT
Thisprojectwas forEskom Holdings,whoproposedan11kV powerline fromthe Ga – RankuwaSubstation
inthe townof Ga - Rankuwa.The proposedpowerline wouldcrossthe SandRiveranda hydrological
assessmentof the contributingcatchmentwasrequired.
I was alsoresponsible forcompletingthe reporttodescribe how the analysiswasperformedtodetermine
if the projectwill be affectedbyaflood.The reportgave detail of where informationwastakenfrom,which
programswere usedforthe analysis,the outcome of the analysisandfinallythe recommendations.I
drafteda layoutdrawinginAutoCADtosupportour findingsinthe analysis.
5. RAPIDWALL– FOSKOR
Thisprojectwas fora companyinAustraliathatwantedto utilise awaste productfroma companyin
RichardsBay. The scope of the projectwasto builda factory for the Australiancompany,Rapidwall.
The projectwas made up of two independentsites,forthe twoindependentcompanies.Foskorrequireda
factoryof theirownand Rapidwall requiredtheirownfactory.ForRapidwall’sprocesses,Rapidwallwould
transportthe productfromFoskor.Thisproduct formFoskoris a waste productthat Rapidwall requiredfor
theirprocesses.
SiVESTwasappointedasthe Civil engineersonthisprojecttoprovide the engineeringservices(civil,
structural,electrical andmechanical).The aimof the project wasto produce a highlevel costestimate for
the constructionof civil relevantservicesrequired.

6. BLOEMHOF INDUSTRIAL PARK
Thiswas a projectdone inthe North – West province,foradevelopmentcompany.The companyrequired
the engineeringservicesforafeasibilitystudybeingdone foranew Industrial Parkinthe townof
Bloemhof.Alongwithapreliminarydesignof civilinfrastructure services,ahighlevel costestimate was
required.The engineeringservicestobe renderedwastoprovide aServicesReportforthe proposed
Industrial Park.The servicesreportcoveredthe internal andexternal servicesforthe IndustrialPark.
My role wasto produce a conceptual designof the office parkonAutoCADdrawinglayouts,produce the
cost estimate asa Bill of Quantitiesandproduce the ServicesReports.
I prepareda Bill of Quantities,inwhichIquantifiedearthworks,roads,sanitation,watersupplyandstorm
water.I thencalculatedall quantitiesforthe above servicesinthe formof a Bill of Quantities,inwhichI
appliedrates fromourinternal database.
I preparedthe ServicesReport,inwhichall relative aspectsandservicesrequired,were discussed.
7. MASSINGIRSUGAR FACTORY
Thisprojectwas done forthe constructionof a sugarfactory inMozambique.The engineeringservicesto
be provided forwasStorm waterdrainage,Sanitation,watersupply.

- Co-ordinate surveydrawingsforthe use inAutoCADdrawings
- Draft proposal forcivil services (stormwater,sewer,waterandroads)
- Designanddetail bulkearthworksplatforms
- Designthe road layerworksasperthe Guidelinesforthe Provisionof EngineeringServicesin
Residential Townships.
- Prepare drawingsincludingsectionsanddetails
- Prepare Billsof Quantities
- Calculationof the PeakStormwaterRunoff asperthe Drainage Manual and the ModifiedHershfield
Formula(due tothe small catchmentareas)
8. FERNRIVERESTATE – SEWER RE-LOCATION
Thisprojectwas fora residential complex inRandburg,Johannesburg.The existingsewerline requiredto
be relocateddue toconstruction purposes.Myresponsibilitywastoprepare the designfor the re-location
of the sewer.

images.
- Designthe sewerpipe usingPipemate.
- SubmittingdrawingstoMunicipalityfordesignapproval.

- Preparingthe AsBuiltdrawingsforJohannesburgWatersubmission,toobtainaclearance letters.
9. COLENSO– COALFIRED POWERSTATION
Thisprojectis based inColenso,Kwa-ZuluNatal.The projectconsistsof anew Mine and a new Power
Station.The engineeringservicestobe providedwasforthe designof civil infrastructure,forWatersupply,
SewerandEffluentdisposal,WatersupplyandRoadaccess.Requirementsforthisprojectwastoproduce
drawinglayouts,costestimates(Bill of Quantities) andanengineeringreporttosubmitforan
Environmental ImpactAssessmentstudy.
Thisprojectis still inthe environmental stage,wherethree site alternativesare beingassessed.The
outcome of the EIA will be a suitable site fromthe three options.

The works includedanewguardhouse,new electricfencingalongthe perimeterof the depotyard, additional parkingareasandgeneral civil worksaroundthe depot.The depotused aseptictanksystemto discharge of waste butwas requiredtoremove the tankandinstall a new outfall sewerline. TransnetPipeline requiresanewoutfall sewerforthe depotbasedinBartlett,Boksburg.Thisareais currentlymanagedbythe Ekurhuleni MetropolitanMunicipality.Iwasgiventhe responsibilityof undertakingthisprojectsrequirements. Ga – RANKUWA FLOOD RISKASSESSMENT Thisprojectwas forEskom Holdings,whoproposedan11kV powerline fromthe Ga – RankuwaSubstation inthe townof Ga - Rankuwa.The proposedpowerline wouldcrossthe SandRiveranda hydrological assessmentof the contributingcatchmentwasrequired. I was alsoresponsible forcompletingthe reporttodescribe how the analysiswasperformedtodetermine if the projectwill be affectedbyaflood.The reportgave detail of where informationwastakenfrom,which programswere usedforthe analysis,the outcome of the analysisandfinallythe recommendations.I drafteda layoutdrawinginAutoCADtosupportour findingsinthe analysis. 5. RAPIDWALL– FOSKOR Thisprojectwas fora companyinAustraliathatwantedto utilise awaste productfroma companyin RichardsBay. The scope of the projectwasto builda factory for the Australiancompany,Rapidwall.

The projectwas made up of two independentsites,forthe twoindependentcompanies.Foskorrequireda factoryof theirownand Rapidwall requiredtheirownfactory.ForRapidwall’sprocesses,Rapidwallwould transportthe productfromFoskor.Thisproduct formFoskoris a waste productthat Rapidwall requiredfor theirprocesses. SiVESTwasappointedasthe Civil engineersonthisprojecttoprovide the engineeringservices(civil, structural,electrical andmechanical).The aimof the project wasto produce a highlevel costestimate for the constructionof civil relevantservicesrequired. BLOEMHOF INDUSTRIAL PARK Thiswas a projectdone inthe North – West province,foradevelopmentcompany.The companyrequired the engineeringservicesforafeasibilitystudybeingdone foranew Industrial Parkinthe townof Bloemhof.Alongwithapreliminarydesignof civilinfrastructure services,ahighlevel costestimate was required.The engineeringservicestobe renderedwastoprovide aServicesReportforthe proposed Industrial Park.The servicesreportcoveredthe internal andexternal servicesforthe IndustrialPark. My role wasto produce a conceptual designof the office parkonAutoCADdrawinglayouts,produce the cost estimate asa Bill of Quantitiesandproduce the ServicesReports. I prepareda Bill of Quantities,inwhichIquantifiedearthworks,roads,sanitation,watersupplyandstorm water.I thencalculatedall quantitiesforthe above servicesinthe formof a Bill of Quantities,inwhichI appliedrates fromourinternal database. I preparedthe ServicesReport,inwhichall relative aspectsandservicesrequired,were discussed. 7. MASSINGIRSUGAR FACTORY Thisprojectwas done forthe constructionof a sugarfactory inMozambique.The engineeringservicesto be provided forwasStorm waterdrainage,Sanitation,watersupply. COLENSO– COALFIRED POWERSTATION Thisprojectis based inColenso,Kwa-ZuluNatal.The projectconsistsof anew Mine and a new Power Station.The engineeringservicestobe providedwasforthe designof civil infrastructure,forWatersupply, SewerandEffluentdisposal,WatersupplyandRoadaccess.Requirementsforthisprojectwastoproduce drawinglayouts,costestimates(Bill of Quantities) andanengineeringreporttosubmitforan Environmental ImpactAssessmentstudy. Thisprojectis still inthe environmental stage,wherethree site alternativesare beingassessed.The outcome of the EIA will be a suitable site fromthe three options.
