Introduction
 Indian Railway provides the most important mode of public transport in India.
 The railways is suffering revenue losses due to cancellation or late running of passenger
trains as a result of foggy weather conditions especially in the northern India fog-prone
regions.
 In last five years the Indian railways has lost in access of Indian rupees one lakh crores
due to cancellation of trains, and delay in running trains.
 Considering its importance, this project work TRINETRA – the third eye to prevent railway
accidents in India has been innovated.

 TRINETRA is expanded as “Technological Research and Invention for National
Empowerment of Trains to Reduce Accidents”.
 In Hindi, the word TRINETRA means ‘The Third Eye’.
 TRINETRA facilitates the passage for trains in unknown environments in zero visibility
situations, fog, smog and heavy rain.
 TRINETRA is based on integration of a visual and thermal camera with laser pointer.
 The visual camera with zoom is used to catch a long range view of the track and
presents it live on a mini screen of the smart mobile phone fixed in the loco pilot cabin.

 Designed for the Indian Railways,
 The hybrid advanced concept,
 Affordable and indigenous design,
 TRINETRA Systems would provide an enhanced vision to the loco drivers, thus
helping railways in India save lives, protect from harsh environment and enhance
productivity.
 Outcome of this research effort has resulted in development the TRINETRA, a cost
effective indigenous and rugged technology to prevent serious railway accidents
during winter season (November to January) in India.
 It would make the railways’ operation a zero-tolerance zone for accidents.
TRINETRA technology will help the Indian railways to prevent any kind of accident
on account of harsh visibility conditions.

TRINETRA System for Indian railways provide more from less because TRINETRA
system is one but will serve three purpose:
1.It will ensure complete safety of passengers and convenience, consequence to
rebuilding the trust of Indian passengers on the services of Indian railways.
1.It will help the Indian railways to provide continuous normal operations in foggy condition
and zero-visibility situations like heavy rains, storms, smog, etc. This apart, it would help in
predictive detection of obstacles on track and provide collision warning to loco-pilots driven
in LHF and SHF modes. This would make railways to emerge as an effective engine of
growth for the country’s economy to work as a commercial organization earning profit.
2.The output would ascertain keeping of loco-pilots automatically at a distance from the
locomotive in front and makes a major contribution towards to prevent accidents on the
tracks by identifying potentially dangerous situations and responding accordingly.

This would make railways to emerge as an effective engine of growth for the country’s economy to work as a commercial organization earning profit. 2.The output would ascertain keeping of loco-pilots automatically at a distance from the locomotive in front and makes a major contribution towards to prevent accidents on the tracks by identifying potentially dangerous situations and responding accordingly.
