1.Objective of the project:
•RLED would provide a relatively superior techno-economic solution vis-à-vis the existing HID and LED street light
systems.
•RLED street light system would provide reliable service to Societies and Driveways with technological solution for e-
waste management
•RLED streetlight system in accordance with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister for innovation, technology
development and manufacturing Make in India promotes rural employments and smart city programs.
1.Duration of the project: 12 Months Project code: K-8 001
2.Scope / utility / outcome of the project:
With appropriate coverage of the objectives, this project is expected to come out with substantial energy savings
potential by use of RLED streetlights for the municipal corporations towards Smart City Concept. This will suggest a
way forward to them and build-up the confidence level for future investments in this area.
3.Project Leader and Team members: Er. Anand Kumar K.S.
4. Deliverable of the project:
•The final deliverable of the project would be 100 Nos. of RLED systems.
•These systems can be deployed at the areas / wards, selected by Bruhath Bangalore Mahanagara Palika (BBMP) for
real time environment tests and user feedback.

The cost to setup a thermal power plant is anywhere between Rs. 3 Crore to 7 Crore per MW.
It costs about 163/watt to build a new coal power plant. But replacing light bulbs can decrease demand
for only 17/watt! (A 9-watt LED bulb replacing a 60 watt incandescent bulb reduces demand by 51
watts for only 90 )
Energy Saving: Much Cheaper Than Building Power
Plants!
On an electrical grid, supply must always exactly equal demand or the voltage goes unstable.

Area (ward # 133) of a BBMP public street light system has 500 Nos. Street light fittings. All the fittings were
having HID i.e. HPSV and MHL, which consume power of 150W per fitting These street lights used at least 12
hours per day (During 18:00 hour to 6:00 hour)
No of Street Light Fittings : 500
Power consumption per fitting : 150 W
Total power consumption : 75 KW
Proposal
Use of RLED street light fitting would consume only about 81W for a single street light. Replacements of all
conventional HID fittings with RLED fittings will results in significant savings.
Estimated power consumption after replacement:
No of Street Light Fittings : 500
Power consumption per fitting : 81 W
Total power consumption : 40.5 KW
Power savings (75KW-40.5KW) : 34.5 KW
Non Implemented Case Study # 1- Energy Conservation Measure
Techno-economics:
Power savings : 34.5 KW
Operating hours (12 h/day 365 days/year) : 4380 hour
Annual energy savings : 151110 kWh
Annual cost savings : 8.3 lakh
(* tariff 5.50 per unit Electricity tariff for 2016-17)
(** concessional tariff for streetlight installation with LED 4.50 per unit)
Investment required (@2500/- per RLED fittings) :12. 5 lakh
Payback period : 1.5 years

ConclusionConclusion
Conventional LED Street light technology requires an initial investment but,
this cost will be recovered by energy savings in less than 2 to 4 years. In
addition, the long life time means you won’t need to buy a replacement for
over 10 years.
RLED Street light technology requires an initial investment less than
conventional fittings but, this cost will be recovered by energy savings in
less than 0.6 to 1 years. In addition, We at RLED Street Lights have
developed LED Street lights with automatic operations life ratings of more
than 50000 hours. That is 40 times more life than existing 1500 hours light
bulbs such as HID and SON. So forget about manual operation and have
peace of mind.
The energy Savings with LED Lights is INCREDIBLE!
Saving of 1 Unit energy is equal to Production of 2 Units of energy
