How did you use media technologies in the
construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?

We decided to use an external microphone as we knew that we
would be filming outside and that we would need to be able to
focus on certain noises to capture. We knew that the cameras
built in microphone would not be sensitive enough and would
capture too much background noise. This is why we decided to
use the Rode Video-Mic Pro as it is a professional and high
quality mic. We also wanted to get a high quality of audio so
that if we wanted to distort any audio in post production we
wouldn't lose too much quality. For example, we used the rode
microphone for the shot of Ebony and Ava sat outside on the
bench. This meant we could place the camera further away from
the pair to get a wider shot without having to worry about
loosing their voices and not being able to hear them. This
overall helped us to get a better, more creative shot.
 Using this camera allowed us to change numerous different settings and
experiment with lots of different shots. It allowed us to manually
increase the brightness when we were filming in the bedroom or slightly
lower the brightness when filming outdoors. The camera was lightweight
meaning that it was easy for us to do things such as tracking shots and
meant that it was easy for us to take on location for filming.
 We originally started to film with a Nikon D5100 which gave us a higher
quality of footage but we found it a lot harder to adjust vital setting we
needed for certain scenes. For example, during the scene where Ava and
Ebony are sat on the bed we needed to manually set the brightness on
the camera is it was to dark for the camera to set itself. This was
something we struggled to do on the DSLR but was a lot easier to do on
the Panasonic.
 As a group we then made the executive decision to re-film using the
Panasonic camera so that we could experiment with different settings
and techniques.
 Premiere allowed to use a range of different editing techniques
to create a professional piece of media that would be appealing
to a wide audience. For example, as the phone camera flashes
we had a fade to white which helped us to neatly transition from
one shot to the next. Using Premiere allowed us to stabilise our
footage to give us a cleaner/smoother shot. This was useful for
the tracking shot of Ava. The original footage was rather shaky
as the surface we used the dolly on was not as smooth as we had
hoped. Premiere allowed us to use the warp stabiliser effect to
make our footage smoother and give a better shot for the
audience to watch.
 Using the Adobe suite gave us a versatile platform on which we
could construct our film using a combination of video, photo and
visual effects. We could easily incorporate our logo which was
made in Photoshop into our film which was made in Premiere.
This saved us time when editing as we did not have to keep
changing formats in order to integrate the material we had
created.
 Photoshop allowed us to create a professional aesthetic
and easily create synergy between our products. It
presented us with a wide range of tools that gave us
countless possibilities when it came to the style and theme
of our product. Photoshop's ease of use meant that all
members of our group could learn to use it in a matter of
hours. For example, we used a range of filters to give an
aesthetic that stuck with the thriller genre and linked with
our film. Our logo was created in Photoshop and appears
in all of our products. Again, using the Adobe suite
allowed use to easily integrate our logo into our footage
on premiere.
 Only half of our group used Photoshop in their AS media
coursework meaning that this project gave the rest of the
group the opportunity to develop their Photoshop skills.
 Wix allowed us to create a professional and
interactive blog which tied in closely with the
theme of our film. It was easy to use and was
accessible to all of our team members. It also
allowed us to use a variation of different
websites and presentation methods
throughout our coursework. These included:
Youtube, Prezi, Emaze and Popplet. Wix
supported all of these formats and meant that
we could get creative with the way we
presented our information and helped make
our blog more interesting to readers.
 YouTube gave us an outlet where we could
share our film with a wider audience. Once on
YouTube we could link our film into many
different websites such as Wix and Emaze.
 Prezi/Emaze/Popplet allowed us to present
our research and planning in new and
creative ways. This helped us to keep our
blog interesting and engaging to our
audiences. All of these sites were easy to
use and accessible to all of our team. It
allowed us to use colour schemes and
themes that matched our film.
 SurveyMonkey allowed us to easily gather
information on our target audience and what
genres people enjoy most. From this we
learnt that thriller was the most popular and
our target audience would be 16 to 20 year
olds. It allowed us to focus our research onto
specific areas and helped us develop our
story line as we know knew what age range to
target.
