New Media in Construction, Research, Planning and Evaluation
1. QUESTION 4:
HOW DID YOU USE NEW
MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE
CONSTRUCTION, RESEARCH,
PLANNING AND EVALUATION
STAGES?
Rhian Quammie
2. PREZI
• To help us pitch our initial idea to the audience, we
created a prezi slide show. This helped us ensure that
our pitch was interesting to our audience. Prezi is also
very easy to use and can be edited by different
members of our group with ease. We also used prezi
in order to present our audience feedback. This made
our audience feedback seem more digestible and
understandable to analyse and take note from.
3. YOUTUBE
•During the research stages we often used
youtube to research other teaser trailers similar
to our teen drama genre. This was useful
because there is a vast majority of teaser
trailers on youtube which we could take
inspiration from.
4. IMDB
• IMDB is a website where you can source information
about films, actors, directors, production and
distribution companies. This website was crucial in the
early planning stages to see what films were under the
teen drama genre and to see what themes were the
least popular. This lead us to pick what the impact of
social media has on an individual as we thought there
was a lack of that amongst teen drama movies.
5. PINTEREST
• Pinterest in a site where you can collate images onto
certain pin boards that relate to a certain subject. We
decided to create a mood board on pinterest to show
the things that we wanted to include in our teaser
trailer. This was useful when it came to filming
because we were able to see everything we wanted to
include clearly and make sure that those things were
included.
6. CAMERA
• When filming we used a Canon EOS digital camera.
This camera was very useful for us as it was small se we could
take awkward shots, such as the mirror shot, without the
camera being seen. This meant that the camera was more
mobile as we filmed a few shots outside around the college
campus and it would have been impractical if we had a camera
any bigger. Also when we took the shot of Jenny sat on her bed
with her head in her hands, we had the camera almost touching
the ground, so the size made it easier for the camera person to
hold, whilst gaining the perfect shot.
7. FINAL CUT PRO
• In order to edit our teaser trailer we used final cut pro. Final cut
is easy to use and allows you lay all of your shots out and
watch them through before you properly edit as well as editing
them all together to create the desired continuity editing. It
allows you add effects and tranisitions to the shot to make
everything run smoothly. But also allows you to change the
colour of a shot and manipulate the saturation to achieve the
desired look.
8. QUICKTIME PLAYER
•This is a useful programme of macs because it
allows you to record the screen as you are
working on the screen. This is how we achieved
the animated titles in our teaser trailer which
made the titles seem more professional.
9. GOOGLE DOCS
• We used google docs initially to type out our titles when
recording them on quicktime player. We then used it to create
the image of the social media logos in our magazine cover and
film poster. We used google docs prior to making our teaser
trailer, during the planning to write our script. This was useful
as it could be shared with all members of my group and added
to by each one of us.
10. MICROPHONE
•When recording the voice overs we used a
microphone. It was useful to us because it
allowed us to record our voice overs in a noisy
class room with out the background noise
being picked up.
11. PHOTOSHOP
• We created our magazine cover and film poster in photoshop.
Photoshop was simple and easy to use and allowed us to do the
basic things with our ancillary texts like layering them on top of
one another. We were able to edit the backgrounds out of some
of our images then collate them all in a way that looked
professional. We were also able to change colours and
manipulate the images to our liking.
12. FREE MUSIC ARCHIVE
• We needed to include royalty free music in our teaser
trailer so we looked on free music archive to find a
song that worked for us. WE searched things like
‘isolation’ , ‘lonely’, and ‘sad’. Eventually we found a
song by ‘bensound’ that we thought was appropriate
for the themes and tone of our teaser trailer.
13. DROPBOX
• As a group we created a drop box in order to store our
unfinished poster and magazine cover. This was useful because
we each worked on different computers and took it on turns to
work on the poster and magazine cover. So when another
person worked on it, instead of switching computers, we put
the file in the dropbox so the other person could download and
manipulate it some more. It was also useful when one person
had an image that another group member wanted to use, we
put it in the dropbox so everyone could access.
14. SURVEY MONKEY
• We used survey monkey to conduct our audience
feedback. This was useful because it was easy to use
and easy for our audience to access. It also gave us
data analysis in the form of pie charts and bar charts
once all of the surveys had been answered which
made the data more understandable and easier to
analyse.
