‘Shout’ magazine is a pop genre
magazine, aimed for young female
teenagers.
The masthead is a bold font that
looks like a type-writer style that
makes it look slightly
sophisticated as the target
audience is for a slightly older
teenage females than my own.
It is in white that contrasts against
the vibrant hot pink, however this
means the pink features stand out
more.
There is a small black shadow
around the white lettering so it
comes forward against the main
image.
This magazine is aimed at a
similar age group to mine and you
can tell this from the vibrant and
bold colour in the masthead and
the way it is laid out.
The masthead is in a speech
bubble that adds a cartoon feel to
the magazine, making it age
appropriate; something I could
consider.
The masthead is very simple but
effective with the strong black and
white theme with the strong hot
pink heart. The heart appeals to
the target audience as it is for
younger females who could
doodle hearts, as well as fitting
into the younger generation but
shortening their brand name with
a simple symbol of a heart.
Top of the Pops magazine has
become more sophisticated
and updated over the
years, making it into a simple
bold font but adding the swirly
touch in the ‘S’ to appeal to
the femininity of the target
audience, reinforced with the
hot pink colour. It is simple but
affective and not over the top.
There is so shadowing or
special effects on the
masthead to make it stand out
further, however against the
simple white background it is
still bold and contrasting.
The ‘of the’ is in a small circle
that represents the pop
genre, a simple shape that
could relate to CD’s or
records.
‘Smash hits!’ magazine has a more
interesting masthead, with the
letters blending into each other
and a two-tone of baby pink and
hot pink to make the two words
stand out.
The pink is surrounded by white so
it captures the eye of the young
target audience against the hot
pink background. There is also a
black shadow underneath the
lettering to make it more
3D, appearing as a different layer
to make is stand out from the other
headlines.
There is also a slight glow on each
letter to really emphasize the name
and brand of that magazine.
