3. Pra-Penginjilan
Jika penginjilan adalah menanam benihbenih Injil, maka pra-penginjilan adalah
menyuburkan ‘tanah’ hati dan pikiran,
mempersiapkan mereka untuk lebih
tertarik mendengarkan Kebenaran.
- Markus 4:1-8
4. “Pra-penginjilan” adalah inti dari
Apologetika Penginjilan
“…dan sebagian jatuh di
tanah yang baik, ia
tumbuh dengan suburnya
dan berbuah, hasilnya ada
yang tiga puluh kali lipat,
ada yang enam puluh kali
lipat, ada yang seratus kali
lipat.” (Markus 4:8)
7. Tantangan penginjilan
hari ini
Dunia yang kita hidupi hari ini
dapat dicirikan sebagai suatu
penolakan terhadap nilai
moral mutlak, sikap yang
sangat skeptis terhadap halhal religius, ketidakpedulian
atau penolakan terhadap
kebenaran obyektif, yang
mengakibatkan berbagai
masalah bagi kita dalam area
penginjilan.
8. Bagaimana orang lain
menerima pandangan kita
mengenai kebenaran mutlak?
Baik di dunia timur maupun barat dapat
menganggapnya sebagai suatu keangkuhan,
suatu pandangan yang sempit, atau bahkan
sikap tak bertoleransi dari orang Kristen yang
mengklaim bahwa kita ‘mengetahui kebenaran’.
Sebagian orang bahkan menganggap iman
Kristen adalah sesuatu yang tidak masuk akal.
9. 2 Timotius 4:3-4
“…akan datang waktunya, orang tidak
dapat lagi menerima ajaran sehat,
tetapi mereka akan mengumpulkan
guru-guru menurut kehendaknya untuk
memuaskan keinginan telinganya.
Mereka akan memalingkan telinganya
dari kebenaran dan membukanya bagi
dongeng.”
10. “Sulit untuk menyatakan ‘pengampunan’
bagi orang yang percaya bahwa moralitas
itu relatif, karena mereka tidak merasa
memiliki dosa yang perlu diampuni.”
(Gene Vaith)
11. “Anda hidup dalam era di mana
dunia Barat makin mirip dunia
timur dan dunia timur diam-diam
meniru dunia barat.”
-Ravi Zacharias-
12. Mendefinisi Ulang Penginjilan
“Setiap hari dan dengan berbagai cara
menolong teman-teman kita yang belum
percaya untuk mengambil satu langkah
semakin dekat kepada Yesus Kristus.”
Dr. David Geisler
13. Hal yang perlu kita
ingat adalah kita ini
hanya Instrumen!
“…dan apa yang lemah bagi dunia,
dipilih Allah untuk memalukan apa
yang kuat.”
1Korintus 1:27b
14.
15. “Apologetika hanya bisa menuntun kuda
ke sungai, tetapi tidak bisa memaksa
kuda tersebut untuk minum” -David Geisler-
19. Musisi
Sebagai musisi, kita
perlu mendengar dan
melatih diri kita
mendengarkan apa
Pelukis
yang orang lain
Ahli
Bangunan
katakan kepada kita!
Arkeolog
24. Kontradiksi kebenaran tentang “Keselamatan”
Kristen– hanya dengan iman di dalam Kristus
Islam– percaya kepada Allah, nabi
Muhammad, dan amal ibadah
Hindu– dengan mengatasi karma lewat
inkarnasi dan perbuatan baik
Budha– dengan menghentikan keinginan
lewat jalan delapan-tingkatan
29. Peran penting dari
pertanyaan
• Pertanyaan klarifikasi
atas istilah-istilah yang
kurang jelas
• Pertanyaan yang
menyoroti sistem
kepercayaan atau
konsep yang keliru
31. Pertanyaan yang menyingkap arti dari
istilah-istilah khusus yang kurang jelas
Apa yang anda maksud dengan
…?
• Juru Selamat
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Baik
Mati bagi kita
Anak Allah
Budha
Pemikir Bebas (Free Thinker)
Yesus adalah Allah
Semua agama pada dasarnya sama
Menerima Yesus
32. Lukas 18:18-19
Ada seorang pemimpin bertanya kepada
Yesus, katanya: "Guru yang baik, apa yang
harus aku perbuat untuk memperoleh
hidup yang kekal?"
Jawab Yesus: "Mengapa kaukatakan Aku
baik? Tak seorangpun yang baik selain
dari pada Allah saja.
35. Apakah kita menanyakan pertanyaan yang
tepat untuk mendapatkan efek yang tepat?
Perlu mengingat 3D:
• Doubt (keraguan)
• Defensiveness (sikap membela diri)
• Desire (hasrat/keinginan)
36. Pertanyaan Spesifik
untuk diajukan kepada
penganut Budha
Jika keinginan adalah
sumber dari segala
penderitaan, bagaimana
kita bisa berhenti dari
keinginan?
Yesus mengajarkan
bahwa masalahnya
bukan berhenti dari
keinginan, tetapi memiliki
keinginan yang benar
(Matius 5:6).
37. Pertanyaan spesifik untuk ditanyakan
kepada orang Muslim
Apakah anda sholat sedikitnya 5x sehari?
A. Saya percaya bahwa amal ibadah
saya ketika ditimbang harus melebihi
dosa saya agar bisa masuk surga.
B. Saya tidak melakukan sholat 5 waktu.
Bagaimana anda bisa memiliki jaminan bahwa anda
akan ke surga ketika anda mati?
39. Mengapa mengajukan pertanyaan
akan sangat membantu?
“Seseorang bisa menutup telinganya
dari fakta yang tidak ingin
didengarnya, tetapi jika pertanyaan
yang tepat sasaran memicu dia
membentuk jawaban di dalam
pikirannya, dia tidak bisa melarikan diri
dari kesimpulan tersebut—karena itu
adalah kesimpulan yang dibuatnya
sendiri.”
David Reed Baker, Jehovah’s Witnesses Answered Verse
by Verse, (Grand Rapids: Baker, 1986) p. 113
40. Matius 21:23-27
Imam-imam kepala dan tua-tua bangsa Yahudi:
“Dengan kuasa manakah Engkau melakukan hal-hal itu?
Dan siapakah yang memberikan kuasa itu kepada-Mu?”
Yesus: “Dari manakah baptisan Yohanes? Dari sorga
atau dari manusia?”
Mereka memperbincangkannya di antara mereka, dan
berkata: "Jikalau kita katakan: Dari sorga, Ia akan berkata
kepada kita: Kalau begitu, mengapakah kamu tidak
percaya kepadanya? Tetapi jikalau kita katakan: Dari
manusia, kita takut kepada orang banyak, sebab semua
orang menganggap Yohanes ini nabi."
Lalu mereka menjawab Yesus: “Kami tidak tahu.”
44. Mencari ke Bawah Permukaan
“Amsal 20:5, ‘Rancangan di dalam hati
manusia itu seperti air yang dalam, tetapi
orang yang pandai tahu menimbanya.’
Apologetika yang baik membutuhkan orang
berpengertian yang memiliki kesabaran dan
wawasan untuk tidak hanya melihat
pertanyaan yang diajukan orang tetapi
mencari ke bawah permukaan dan menjawab
masalah mereka yang sebenarnya…”
Rev. Dave Montoya, Dealing With Both Minds and Hearts: Answering the
Questions Behind the Questions, Unpublished materials
45.
46. Yesus adalah Pakarnya dalam hal ‘Mencari ke
Bawah Permukaan’
Di Markus 12:18-27, perhatikan bagaimana Yesus
meresponi:
dikawinkan.
Tetapi kemudian Yesus memunculkan apa yang sebenarnya
menjadi masalah mereka.
Apakah masalah mereka yang sebenarnya?
Yesus tahu bahwa pertanyaan yang sebenarnya adalah
tentang kebangkitan orang mati.
51. Mencari ‘Common Ground’
“Bagi orang-orang yang lemah aku
menjadi seperti orang yang lemah,
supaya aku dapat menyelamatkan
mereka yang lemah. Bagi semua
orang aku telah menjadi segalagalanya, supaya aku sedapat mungkin
memenangkan beberapa orang dari
antara mereka.” (1 Kor. 9:22)
Kisah Para Rasul 17:22-31
55. Tidak Mungkin Pandangan Semua Agama Benar!
Krishna, Budha, Yesus, and Muhammad
Mungkinkah semuanya benar?
Mungkinkah semua agama benar secara
bersamaan?
57. Bukti Pernyataan Kristus
“Budha mengklaim menunjukkan jalan,
(Dave Geisler)
58. Membangun jembatan ‘kepala’ dan ‘hati’
Bangun Jembatan
dengan orangorang yang akan
kita jangkau!
( I Kor. 9:22)
59. Kami mematahkan setiap siasat orang dan merubuhkan setiap kubu yang dibangun
oleh keangkuhan manusia untuk menentang pengenalan akan Allah. (2 Korintus10:5)
60. Secara aktif mencari kesempatan untuk
transisi ke Injil.
Contoh:
Apakah ada yang pernah menjelaskan
kepada anda perbedaan antara
Kekristenan dengan agama lain?
*
Jelaskan ‘Do’ vs ‘Done’
61. Do vs. Done
• Muslim percaya bahwa untuk masuk surga amal
ibadah manusia jika ditimbang harus melebihi
dosa yang dilakukannya. - DO
• Hindu mengajarkan bahwa jika seseorang berbuat
kebaikan maka dia bisa membayar hutang
karmanya dan keluar dari lingkaran reinkarnasi.
- DO
• Budha mengajarkan bahwa untuk mencapai
nirwana seseorang harus berhenti dari
keinginannya. -DO
• Yesus berkata, “Terimalah pemberianku.
Semuanya sudah ‘selesai’ dikerjakan untukmu.”
(Tidak ada usaha yang dapat dilakukan untuk
mendapatkan pemberian Allah, Efesus 2:8) - DONE
(Fil 2:13)
62. Inti Penginjilan Melalui
Percakapan
Kita ingin “mendengar” kekeliruan
mereka dan kemudian
“mencerahkan” mereka dengan
memberikan pertanyaan yang akan
mengklarifikasi istilah di dalam
kepercayaan mereka dan
mengekspose kelemahan dari
pandangan mereka.
Kemudian kita ingin “menyingkapkan” halangan utama dan
“membangun” jembatan untuk membantu mereka
mengambil satu langkah mendekat kepada Yesus Kristus
setiap harinya
(I Cor. 3:6).
The problem today is…because of the changing world we live in today there has been an erosion of truth, and because of that it is not so easy for people to build a bridge to the gospel.
Let me share with you an expanded definition of Evangelism from our primary trainer, Dr Dave Geisler, that includes the idea of process.
Evangelism is “Every day…(read slide)
In practical terms, what this means is that we need to ask ourselves what we need to do today in order to help our pre-believing friends take that one step closer to Jesus Christ.
In the world that we live in today, this could be a helpful strategy because it has become increasingly more difficult to get people to hear what we have to tell them about the Lord Jesus Christ. As a result it may take a while before our pre-believing friends will seriously consider the claims of Christ, and make the decision to invite Him into their lives as Saviour and Lord. (Phil 2:13).
You and I probably have had times when we had tried approaching our friends to give us their time so that we can share the gospel with them, but have not been successful because they are too busy. What this does to us is that it makes us feel bad that we are not succeeding in our evangelistic efforts. The result? We eventually give up the idea? Right?
I know that for a fact, because I have had times when I laid very low and did nothing about talking to someone about the Lord Jesus Christ. And this is because I think that I must be able to share the full bulk of the gospel and see some kind of a response. And when I don’t, I see that as a failure. But if I see that evangelism is helping people take another step closer to the gospel, then I am not likely to give up.
We need to remember that we are just the instrument of God.
The Bible teaches that “God chose…”
ASK: Who are the weak?… You and I!
We need to remember also that God is not so concerned about our ability, but our availability.
The Conversation Evangelism model consists of four different kinds of conversations we want to have with our pre-believing friends.
They are: a Hearing Conversation, an illuminating conversation, an uncovering conversation, and a building conversation.
Understanding how to have each of these four kinds of conversations with our pre-believing friends is important if we are going to help them take steps towards Christ, especially in the kind of world we live in today.
These four kinds of conversations correspond to four roles you and I need to play in our pre-believing friends’ lives,
A musician
An artist
An archeologist
A builder
As we listen to them, we want to be like a Musician and hear the “sour” notes that people are singing to us.
Have you ever been in church where you are singing a song, and then hear someone behind you singing off key?
You may not be sure if their pitch is too high or too low, but you realize that something just does not sound right!
In the same way, in our conversations with our pre-believing friends, we want to hear things that don’t sound right.
“So like an archeologist we want to dig to discover their real barriers.
James says, “MY dear…
Unfortunately sometime we are so quick to give people an answer before we really understand what our not-yet Christian friends believe.
As an artist we want to pain a picture of people (using questions) to help people see themselves more clearly.
“Paint a picture to help them see themselves more clearly.
When they answer a question they have provided an image of themselves.
Starting with their own image; fill in the details they are missing.”
By asking questions you could be helping someone get a more clear picture of who they really are and what they really believe.
James says, “MY dear…
Unfortunately sometime we are so quick to give people an answer before we really understand what our not-yet Christian friends believe.
First lets talk about questions that…
Now if you forget everything I say so far, I want you to remember this first important point; Learn to begin to ask in your conversation with your not-yet believing friends, “What do you mean by?
This is important because we cannot assume that they have the same meaning or understanding of key terms that we use.
For example, if someone says to you Jesus is my savior, what question do you want to ask them?
Answer:
What do you mean by Savior?
What if someone says I am a pretty good person so I am going to get into heaven. What question do you want to ask them?
Answer: What do you mean by good?
If some says I believe that Jesus died for us, what question do you want to ask them.
Answer:
What do you mean by “Died for us.” The reason why this is important is that he or she may have a different understand of what “Died for us” really means. For example some may think that Jesus died only as a moral example to show us how to live.
Now is embracing this true really what being a Christian is all about?
Answer:
No, because the bible teaches us in Romans 5:8 that God demonstrated his own love for us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
In the Greek the preposition (For) in Romans 5:8 means that He died in our place and for our benefit. He was more than just a moral example.
But if you don’t clarify the meaning of this definition, your friends might not understand this.
In using this approach in asking for clarification of terms, a helpful tip to keep in mind is to remember to take advantage of your ignorance about what they believe as you ask questions for clarification!
First lets talk about questions that…
Now the next type of conversation we want to have is an uncovering conversation. This is important because sometime people may have questions that they want answers for but after you give them the answers to their questions you discover that those were not really the real barriers to begin with in considering the person of Christ.
“So like an archeologist we want to dig to discover their real barriers.
Sometimes we need to go below the surface.
Proverbs 20:5 says, the (unseen) purpose…
The third step is to uncover…
Sometimes people carry a lot of emotional baggage on the way to the cross and it makes it difficult for them to really understand the Christian message.
(Give a personal example of a conversation you had with a not-yet believer that by the things they said you could tell that they are carrying emotional baggage that is getting in the way of them really seeing Jesus).

Review:
Hearing
What are the four kinds of discrepancies?
Illumination
What are the two kinds of questions we want to ask?
Uncovering
What are the seven steps in uncovering the real barriers
Now we come to the last aspect of the model we call Building Conversational
We want to develop a strategy to put it all together and build a bridge to the gospel with them.
Review:
So as a Musician…
As a Artist…
As a Archeologist…
Now as a Builder, we want to build a bridge to the Gospel.
This is important to build bridges to the Gospel today because of the erosion of Truth.
Because of the erosion of truth, it is no longer easy for some people to take steps towards the cross.
Our goal then is to…
In order to do this we need to keep six important steps in mind.
The apostle Paul said “To the weak…”
Do you know what I mean by “common ground?”
Specifically we want to find that point of intersection between our beliefs and our not-yet Christian friends.
Give an example…
Furthermore we should actively look for ways in our conversations with our not-yet believing friends to transition to spiritual things.
For example, we can use the phrase, “Has anyone ever explained to you the difference between Christianity and all other religions” to raise their curiosity about what we actually believe.
Answer:
Use Bill Hybels’ analogy concerning the difference between Do versus Done.
Say to them, I can explain the difference between Christianity and all other religions using two words, Do versus Done.
All the religions in the world say do this to get to heaven or the equivalent. Muslims say your good deeds have to outweigh your bad deeds, Hindus says you have to overcome karma and reincarnations by doing good works. Buddhist says you need to get rid of desire through an eight-fold path.
The bottom line is that all the religions of the world apart from Christianity say you have to “do” something.
Christianity on the other hand is not about “doing” something but about what has already been done. The Bible teaches us that there is nothing we can do to earn a relationship with God. The fact is no matter how good I am or what I “do” for God it will never be enough to earn the right to have a relationship with God. (Eph. 2:8-9; Titus 3:5). That is why the focus on Christianity is not on “Do” but “Done.”
Jesus provided the sacrifice to atone for my sins (Rom. 5:8). My responsibility is to accept what God has done for me and allow God to change me from the inside out not in my own power, but in his strength (Phil 2:13; 4:13).
