1. “Boy&Girl Band” Invades Your TV!
In 2001, F4 was introduced to Indonesian youths,
since then it seems Indonesian Youth especially
young girls are infected by Asian-look epidemic.

Now in 2011, Asian, specifically Korean showbiz;
TV series & boy/girl band dominates the
Indonesian Youth market.
And just as predicted before, Indonesian artist
trying to adopt the Korean culture also known as
K-Pop.

Smash, Cherry Belle, 7icons are all boy & girl
bands with roughly adaptations of Korean style.
These groups has pro & cons opinion which only
leads them to popularity.

Everyday their clips shown in TV (dahsyat / inbox),
pictures in magazine, and moreover the reality
show audition for new comer boy & girl band
shown in one of the national TV stations.
2. Let’s Join the
“Hijabers” Community!
The Hijabers community is a group of
female wearing a hijab (known as
          ‘jilbab’ in Indonesian). What makes
them difference is the way they wore
          their hijabs.

          The trends influenced by hijaber
          trendsetter: Dian Pelangi, Fifi
          Alvianto, Hanna, Ashfi Qamara.

But the hype starts with Fifi
          Alvianto, who creates the famous
          www.hijabscarf.blogspot.com.
She realize that wearing hijab could
be stylish, so she created a
segmented blog that tells a different
ways to wear hijabs. And this blog is
          growing massively.
3. Lining up for “Magnum Café”
A few months ago, you could see a crowd of
people were lining up in front of Magnum
Café. And suddenly you felt the urge to do
the same thing and tell it to your friends. In
                   short, it’s a multiplier effect!

Magnum started their campaign in twitter using
     the hashtag #belgiumchocolate. Magnum
also hired the twitter buzzer to create a buzz
                in belgian chocolate campaign.

Later when the new Magnum was released, you
will find it scarce in stores, and start to tweet
                                            about it.

That’s when people especially youth create the
                         buzz about Magnum.
4. What “Maicih” Level Are You?
                                  “For icihers with love”
That’s the tagline for Maicih fan base.
Maicih is an ordinary cassava chips originated from in Bandung.
It has the “Level-Stage” level 1 to level 10,
                             shows the level of spiciness.

Actually those kind of cassava chips are very common in
Bandung. Lot of merchants sell cassava chips at traditional
market. But what`s special from Maicih brand are their marketing
                          strategy, a unique youth marketing.

Maicih are not sold everwhere, it is only sold in random spot and
always sold out. They are fully understand that today’s youth is a
seeker, so people from different areas seek and buy for them .
We can know where they are from twitter: @infomaicih.

The producer choose youth to be a “General”. From that, the
consumer experiencing new and unique brand marketing, they
proud and share it in twitter and let their friends know.
5. So Long Facebook…,
             I got “Twitter” now
“Facebook is my photo album and friends database, while Twitter
is my Diary” - Quoted from one of the SMP 12 students.

Indeed, youth in 2011, migrate to Twitter. When they thought
facebook is so much common now, even their parents had an fb
account, they’re trying to find their new ‘playground’. That’s when
Twitter is growing massively in 2011.

Indonesian Youth using Twitter to chat, follow
celeb account, and mostly to let others know
their ‘feelings’ at that moment, either they’re
in good or bad mood, something they can’t do
freely anymore in facebook.
6. Smart Jokes in “Standup comedy”
Stand-up Comedy is a showcase of Jakarta-based Indonesian
stand-up comedian. It is held firstly by a group of fellow
tweets;
@ernestprakasa, @adriandhy, @ismanhs, @pandji, &
@radityadika. They are also what we called "celebtwit" or
celebrity on twitter.

Fresh jokes and expressive facial expressions are
characteristics of these stand up comedy. The comedians
come from various background, from rapper, blogger, writer
to radio announcer.

Stand-up Comedy show starts from café to café, called
StandupNite, then when it gather a huge crowd. The show
was brought to the television. As we can see, now we had
the Stand-up Comedy show in Kompas TV and Metro TV.

Actually stand-up Comedy trend also brought by Russell
Peters, a Canadian comedian, actor & DJ. He uses humor to
poke fun at the subjects of race, class and culture, often
7. Watch out for “Angry Birds!”
Angry Birds has been one of the most
popular iPhone games since the launch and
it has also been a great success on the iPad.
Angry Birds is now reported to be moving
onto to be the highest download number
           for mobile gaming.

The game involves employing a sling shot to
           propel small cannonball-shaped birds with
really bad attitudes at rather fragile glass and
           timber houses populated by basically
           catatonic green pigs.

What makes it interesting that besides the
game itself, the merchandise such as plush
toy, t-shirt, stationery, etc were found almost
everywhere. The fans are varied from kids
           to young adult.
8. Click and Upload with “Instagram”
Instagram, the hottest iPhone startup right
now, isn`t complicated or even revolutionary.
 It`s a simple photo-taking and photo-sharing app
that has taken over Silicon Valley and is filling our
Twitter feed with fun, cute photographs.

The beauty of this app is that it encourages casual
photography through your phone and displays
them in a visually appealing manner that turns
the mundane into magic. The layout is extremely
                          simple and user-friendly.

And second, it`s a simple social network of other
people`s photos. You can "like" or comment on
the photos, and see what`s new. It`s easy and
doesn`t take much time or effort. This is one of
the reasons it has become so popular so quickly.
Instagram in Indonesia now has many
communities, one of the most popular one is:
                                        iPhonesia
9. Bye Uncool Gadgets,
              I Have “Tablets” now
Tablets is a Tablet computer, a kind of mobile
computers, usually having a touchscreen or pen-
enabled interface. As for the brands, Ipad from Apple &
Galaxy Tab from Samsung, are the most sold tablets.

Yes, there are apps and games, but it is information and content that seem to
be the focus — as well as the fact that there is prestige in wandering around
with the device, some sort of badge of honor; the Fashion Statement.

                      That’s one of the biggest reason to buy tablet for Youth;
to look cool! Indonesian Youth are using tablets mostly
are young adults / first-jobber. Besides for its office
function, they meet a lot of people, so they’re proud to
show their tablets in a meeting or simply when they’re
                                                                       hangout.
10. Everyday I’m “Shufflin’!”
It’s Shuffle Dance! a dance inspired by
the classic Jazz Dance which put more
variations to the knee and toe
              movement, firstly originated from the
80’s brought by Melbourne local Band
              called Underground Scene.

It`s now spreading out around jakarta-
bandung. Starts in the club, then infected
the malls, schools and street culture. The
              Shuffle Dance communities are growing
as well. Another indication of youths
high need for public spaces and
              community

              Note:
The words: Everyday I’m Shufflin’ popularized
by LMFAO with its “Party Rock Anthem”, a
must number played when doing shuffle
              dance.
11. Get Extreme with
                   “Downhill bike”
Bored of Fixie Bike? Youth are now trying to
get more extreme with Downhill Bike.
Downhill Bike is a gravity-assisted time trial
mountain biking event. Riders are timed with
equipment similar to that used in Downhill
skiing. The placing is determined by the
fastest times to complete the course.
Downhill races usually are held on
steep, downhill terrain, resulting in high
speed descents, and with extended air time
               off jumps and other obstacles.

But when the downhill trends came to urban
city, where there is no spaces to do so, one
of the downhill bikers community, Street Dirt
Senayan (SDS) creates their own spot in
Senayan, digging the area and makes it like
downhill. They once had an urban downhill
bike event, held in a mall, where they used
               the escalator as the obstacles.
