2. Aim of Shoot
When I was taking these
photographs, I was trying to
capture the surroundings and
show as much as I can in the
photos. I tried to show that I can
capture the colour of a rural
landscape in a photograph. When
I edited the photos I tried to make
the colour stand out more. In each
of the photos there is a wide range
of different due to the nature of the
landscape and it includes things
such as grass, trees, water, plants
etc.
3. Description of shoot
When I was setting up this image, I took
into account the tree to make the rest of
the image stand out, I also took it into
account where abouts the sun was and
anything that could of interfered with the
image. It was in a field near to college and
was taken in the winter in the afternoon as
the sun was beginning to set, allowing me
to get the best photo possible. I think the
image looks good because the sun was in
a great place and the overall look of the
photo is good, nothing interfered with the
photo and I think it captures the landscape
well. This image was not changed from my
original plan and went exactly as planned.
6. Editing effects
For this photograph, I increased the
contrast by 52 to make the image look
better quality. I also used the sharpen tool
to improve the overall quality and used
adjustments such as colour balance to
make the water more blue and clear.
7. Final Images
I think the strengths of this photo
includes thing such as the composition
which went well as well as the use of
rule of thirds. The editing was good
because I managed to get a very
good colour to the image and I suits
the tone very well. I think the
weaknesses are that the grass looks a
bit blurry and the colour looks a bit
blotchy in some places but apart from
that I think the image looks very good.
8. Editing effects
For this image, I mainly adjusted the
colour. I used the colour balance
adjustment and adjusted the colour to
increase the amount of red, magenta and
yellow. I also cut a bit of the original photo
so that the tree was on the very left of the
photo. I also used the sharpen filter to
increase the quality of the photo.
9. Final Images
Overall I am very happy with this
image, I think the composition is very
good and is exactly how I waned it
and other elements such as depth of
field and rule of thirds were all used
well. The colour is very good and it
makes the photo look very good. I
think the only weaknesses are that a
bit of tree is missing that was in the
original image and the grass looks a
bit blurry in places.
11. Editing effects
For this image, I used the smart sharpen
filter to improve the quality of the image. I
used smart sharpen which allows you to
choose how much you want to sharpen
the image. I sharpened it 85% with a
radius of 3.8. Also I used colour balance to
give it a more blue tint, also I increased
the contrast by 50% to increase how fine
the image is.
12. Final Images
I think this image is very strong, I got
the composition how I wanted it
although I would’ve preferred it if I’d
gone lower down to take the picture. I
also like the overall colour of the photo
and think it is without a doubt one of
my strongest final images. The only
real weakness is in the composition
where I said I would’ve gone lower to
make the image look slightly but aside
from that it is a very good photo.
14. Editing effects
For this image, I edited the colour balance
significantly increasing the amount of blue to
get the colour I wanted, I also slightly
increased the amount of magenta. I also
reduced the brightness and increased the
contrast to get a dark look to the photo
15. Final Images
• Paste the final images here and
discuss their strengths /
weaknesses e.g. say why you liked
them / why you chose them
• Mention focus, depth of field, rule
of thirds, composition,
I think that this image went exactly to
plan, the main priority was the dark
colour theme, things such as the
blue and magenta. The
composition went very well and
everything was in a good place
and things such as depth of field
and rule of thirds all went well. The
only weaknesses is that it might be
a little bit too dark and also that the
distant parts of the image are a
little bit blurry. Overall I think the
image is very strong.
17. Editing effects
When I edited this photograph, the main
adjustment I used was increasing the
brightness of the image on the
adjustments menu, I increased it to +44
but left the contrast the same. I also edited
the colour balance to make it look more
green.
18. Final Images
This image isn’t one of my favourites
because it is a bit bland but I still like
elements such as the composition and
the colour, I was going for a green look
and it’s been a good turn out. The main
weakness is that it’s too bright, the right
hand side of the photo is very bright
and looks a bit silly. Apart from that it is
a quite a strong image.
20. Rejected Images
I rejected these images because I thought
they quite bland, they did not show what I
wanted to achieve with the shoot. Also the
composition for them was quite poor and I
already had some similar images that
were better than these. I took these and
after sorting through I decided I did not
want to use them, there were a few more
images quite similar that I rejected for the
same reasons.
21. Aims for next project
This shoot has taught me a lot about the basic functions of a good camera such as the ISO,
depth of field, rule of thirds etc and learnt how to use them in a photo-shoot. It also taught me
how to setup a composition to get the photos to the best that can be done. I also learnt a lot
more editing techniques on Photoshop and how to improve the overall quality of photographs.
Next time I will take more images that I actually want to edit and get a wider range of pictures.
I would change some of the pictures I took as well in terms of composition because some of
them didn’t go quite right. Overall though I am very pleased with the shoot and I have learnt a
lot from this.
