Evaluation
Part 1
In this project we were doing Photography Techniques, We had to make an exhibition on
what techniques we were going to use, for my exhibition I planned on using Macro,
Landscape and Wildlife. Throughout the task I added portrait to my exhibition, because
when we were taking our photos I took a picture of Jack, which I liked so I decided to add
that technique to my exhibition.
I decided to use these techniques, before I took my own images, I was looking at different
photographers and the techniques they used for example; Thomas Shahan, he is a famous
macro photographer who takes spectacular photos of bugs, arthropods in particular. This
gave me idea’s to mix Macro and wildlife into one. I also choose to do Landscape because I
liked the photos I saw on the internet and how they were presented which I liked so that
why I choose Landscape. The reason I choose portrait was because the task we were doing
before our exhibition needed us to take picture of different techniques such as Macro, Ariel,
Landscape, Sport, Portrait and many more when I was taking pictures of portrait which I
liked, I came back to them when I was editing my images and I like one portrait image,
which made me change my mind, and I added that to my exhibition.
These are my finished edited photos;

I edited all but 2 of my images, Image 3 and 5, I only cropped them because I didn’t think
they need anything done to them, this was because I thought they were good enough
pictures without editing them.
Image number 1, I put the whole picture in black and white, and highlighted the areas I
wanted to keep the original colour. I decided to do line throughout the image because I
wanted to have something different to all my photos, and when I did I liked how the end
result looked.
Image 2, I changed the contrast and the brightness in the image, I done this because I was
messing about with the different tools, and I liked the colours the contrast and brightness
made when you lowered them. I decided to keep this because I didn’t think I could do
anymore to this image because it was just a landscape but I was pleased with the result of
the edited image.

Image 3, I didn’t change anything about this photo, like I did to all the others. I did this
because I thought the photo was good enough to not edit it. I did crop the photo because I
just wanted to focus on that one section of the image.
Image 4, I made the whole image black and white, but before I done that I highlighted the
part of the flower I wanted to keep its original colour. I did a layer via copy, and made the
image black and white. I done this because it makes the purple flower stand out and I liked
the way it turned out in the end result of the image.
Image 5, I didn’t do anything to this image apart from crop the image, I done this because
when I was playing about with the effects, but I didn’t seem to like how any of them looked,
but because I liked this image I kept it but I just cropped it so its just focused on the one
important section of the image.
Image 6, I choose to add portrait because of this photo, I like how there is no emotion which
is why I decided to black out his eyes, I done this with highlighting the part of the eye and fill
the space with black. I done this because it looks dark even though the whole image isn’t
black its looks mysterious and that’s why I decided to keep this image like that. I also
cropped the image slightly to keep focus on him.

The equipment I used was a Canon Camera 600D, The settings I
used on the camera was Portrait, close up and Landscape. I used
these settings because it applied to the techniques I was using and
helped my images come out better with these settings. I used a
manual zoom so I could easily change how close or how far away I
needed it to be.
Throughout me editing my photos I learnt various new skills such as changing the
background into black and white. Also highlighting the image and using layer via copy to
keep the same original colour of image if you’re changing the back ground. But because we
have been editing photos on Photoshop for 2-3 years my skills I knew have adapted which I
am pleased about.
Part 2
My strengths of my photographs are my camera skills have improved within the different
techniques I think my Macro and Macro/Wildlife images are the images I am most
impressed with this is because I like how I have edited them and the quality, none of the
images was pixilated they are good quality.
My weaknesses of my images are I wished I spent more time on editing them and less time
taking photos, I spent more time on taking photos because not all of them went to plan, I
lost track on time which I think had a disadvantage on some of my edited images. For
example my portrait image although I am still impressed with my final result I could of spent
more time maybe adding effects, but unfortunately I had to rush.

My plan didn’t go the way I wanted to go at all, I
changed my all but one image, this was because I
thought of better ideas. My landscape image
didn’t change I went to the same location. But
the rest I changed and added a techniques which
was portrait.
I think personally I changed as photographer in a good way. My focus in my images is so
much better, and my ideas of images have improved. Before this task I used to struggle
getting my images into focus or taking quality images but now I think I have improved
greatly within this whole task.
If I could change the way I did this project I would be more time consuming, and plan my
images more carefully and use more time, I would also use more time on editing my images
and spend less time and lesson going out and taking photo’s. Although I could of spent more
time editing and less time taking my images I am impressed with my progress throughout
this task with the quality of my images.
