Rhetorical Communication: A Theory of Civil Discourse
July 7th, 2015
Rhetorical Discourse in Two Distinct Pieces of Work; Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address
Emily Dickinson s Success is Counted Sweetest Rhetoric is often denoted to as the art of persuasion.
A set of linguistic traits and semantics used to evoke emotional responses from its intended audience,
opening the floor for unanticipated influence by said audience. It would be an atrocity to ignore the
efforts behind this simple yet powerful manipulation. This is referred to as rhetorical discourse.
Essentially, there are six characteristics of rhetorical discourse, these characteristics being; rhetoric is
planned, adapted to an audience, shaped by human motives, responsive to a situation, seeks
persuasion, and is concerned with contingent issues (Herrick 8). Further, each of the characteristics
lends itself to support the social functions of rhetoric; testing ideas, assisting advocacy, distributing
power, unearthing facts, shaping knowledge, and building communities (Herrick 15). It is with these
sentiments in which one compares the rhetorical discourse used in both former President Abraham
Lincoln s Second Inaugural address, and Emily Dickinson s Success is Counted Sweetest. Here the
characteristics of rhetorical discourse will be used as a guide for the differences in these two pieces of
work. Though both are essentially about the civil war, they share great

Survey Of Literature Review
2 Survey of Literature Milena Milenkovic et. al [6] have presented experimental flow for the
benchmark tests that determine the organization and size of a branch predictor using on chip
performance monitoring registers. Technical note by Scott McFarling [7] presents discussion on how
the implementation leading to degree of instruction level parallelism plays an advantageous role in
boosting computing performance and suggested a method for combining different types of branch
predictors for maximizing prediction accuracy for a given predictor size. Yeh and Patt [3] have
introduced the idea of dynamically collecting branch history information at two different levels,
namely, branch execution history and pattern history; the scheme being ... Show more content on

The motivation behind the whole work rests on various fundamental concepts taken from the work of
Daniel A. Jimenez and Clavin Lin [2, 4] and Daniel A. Jimenez [5,8,16]. The branch predictor binary
was successfully built using di erent compilers and tested under different platforms: (1): GNU C++
under Linux distribution CentOS Release 4.8, i386, 32bit; (2): Cygwin 32bit environment under
Windows 7 and (3): Bloodshed Developer C++ (DevC++ 5.0.2). Literature survey has revealed that
the proposed approach is unique and novel. 3 Background Concepts Instructions executed by a
processor, in general, are of the types: load, store, move, add, compare or jump; a collection of which
forms the Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) of any microprocessor. A jump is a control flow
instruction, which can be broadly divided into two categories: (a) Conditional Branch (CB) and (b)
Unconditional Branch (UB). Based on a run time condition, CBs can be further classified as Forward
CBs (FCBs), also called a forward jump, where the Program Counter (PC) is changed so as to point to
an address ahead of the current position in the instruction stream; and Backward CBs (BCBs), a
backward jump, where the PC is changed to point backward in the instruction stream. This is
pictorially shown below in Fig.1 and Fig.2, respectively. Fig.1: Forward Jump Fig.2: Backward Jump

The Impact of China s One-Child Policy on Its Economic...
: What is the impact of China s one child policy on its economic growth over the years? This paper
will show that the standard econometric estimation conceals the takeoff effect and thus underestimates
the economic impact of demographic changes. In effect, the impact of China s one child policy moved
the timing of the economic take off by a decade. The original intent of the one child policy was for
economical purposes. The authorities envisioned reducing the demand of natural resources, reducing
the rate of exploitation, and reducing unemployment caused by surplus labor, and maintaining a steady
labor rate. 100 words
Keywords: economic transition, one child policy, and demographic changes. JEL Classification:
1. Introduction
At the start of China s economic reforms in late 1970s, the Chinese leadership established population
control as one of its main priorities. The post Mao leadership believed that China population control
was the key to ensure growth in per capita income. This led to the elevation of the one child policy.
The one child policy of China was the official family planning policy that was aimed at controlling the
population of China. The one child was introduced in 1979 mainly to help in alleviating economic,
social and environmental problems in China. It was estimated by demographers that the policy helped
avert about 200 million births between 1979 and 2009 although some other estimates puts it at 400
million. About two and half decades after the

Analysis Of saturn His Son, At The Museum Of El Prado...
I first saw this painting, Saturn Devouring His Son, at the Museum of El Prado alongside the other
Black Paintings. My initial reaction was of fear. These are artworks that should not be simply seen in
front of a computer screen. The thickness of the paint and the careful attention to details; these are
things that are missed if not seen in person. Upon walking into the small room the first painting that
draws the attention of visitors is this painting. Not only is this a grotesque piece in an otherwise
frightening room, Saturn also looks like he s rather enjoying this action, and his intense glare from his
bulging eyes gives the impression as if you (the viewer) are the next target. The goal for this essay is
to show Goya s way of depicting events that have affected not only society but him personally.
It is a mythological subject that literally shows Saturn devouring his son. Light is very important as it
focuses directly on the face of Saturn and the body of his son. It is a blinding light that leaves the dark
background with a feeling of gloominess. The composition revolves around a single plane in which
Saturn is placed devouring his victim. The dark background marks the sense of depth. Violent motion
appreciates both his posture, and his mouth. His face reflects an expression of drama and tenebrism.
The predominant color on the drawing emphasizes the dark tones that contrast with the clarity of the
body of the victim. His deformity produces more drama in the scene.

The Representation Of Interracial Relationships
In the multi cultural society that we live in today, relationships from all different cultures are
welcomed. The mixing of races has been going on for hunherds of years and dates back to the
unfortunate years of slavery. Where the mixing of white and black was a taboo, but still carried out by
the white slave masters on their black maids/ slaves.
In this essay I will be looking at the representation of interracial relationships and how these
relationships have been portrayed in cinema from 1903 up until present. I will be discussing the how
miscegenation has been represented to audiences over the years as a problem, and something that is
unnatural. This essay will be anasyling scenes from movies such as Birth of a Nation, and What ...

It was this filmed that sparked the 1927 production code, which was called the Don t and Be Carful s.
This production code was a guideline for professionals in the industry, on what was not to be depicted
on the screens for audience to watch. The representation of miscegenation was strictly prohibited from
the years 1930 1956. This production code was a reflection of the views that were held in society at
the time. As cinema is often a reflection of society, miscegenation when it is present in films is often if
not always represented to the audience as problematic. The relationships start off great but have a hard
time progressing to anything further as, each side has to deal with problems that they cannot relate to,
or has issues addressing with their partners. These as these were the views of society at the time, the
view that these interracial relationship wouldn t work and were unnatural were projected on our
screens to further reinforce the message to the audience.
Miscegenation was first shown on screens in 1903, in the film What happened in the tunnel? .
Unusually the interracial relationship is not represented in its typical form. There is no physical
relationship presented to the audience, miscegenation is presented to the audience when a white man
catches the eye of a white woman while embarking on a train

Buddhism, The Noble Eightfold Path And The Four Noble Truths
Buddhism was an incredibly intriguing religion to me due to the emphasis placed on the reality that
surrounds us, it s a rational religion based on peace, self understanding and the ultimate goal of
nirvana. Buddhist followers live their life with three main goals; morality, meditation and
enlightenment. Ultimately the core teachings of Buddhism are The Noble Eightfold Path and The Four
Noble Truths. It is their lives journey to understand, live kindly and find their inner peace. In a world
so full of hate, misunderstanding, war, segregation and close mindedness; it is unimaginable to not
find such a peaceful and understanding religion not attractive in one way or another. However with
that, how is it possible that in this same world we find ourselves, those Buddhist followers are able to
find such inner peace and understanding when the world around them conducts themselves with such
insanity?
We don t know details about the life of Siddhartha Buddha as nothing was written down by him or his
disciples until hundreds of years after his death. However, the legends that were passed down paint a
very humble and intriguing picture of the man known as Buddha. The story states that Buddha was
born into a very lavish lifestyle; he was given anything and everything he could ever want and kept
very sheltered in order to protect him from the realities of the world around him. Eventually becoming
curious of the surrounding world he escaped the royal walls and seen what the world

Examples Of Identity In Huckleberry Finn
The Hoax of Personalities In Mark Twain s the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the true identity of an
individual is questioned countless times between three central characters. Along with identity, one s
self pride can also be at task. The inheritance of money, faking death, and the will to be free are at
hand to become a true successor in the journey northward. With help from the so called King and
Duke, their mission to Cairo is put more at risk rather than if Huck and Jim remained alone. Before the
trip even started, Huck had to escape the imprisonment of his cruel and abusive father, Pap. Huck s
idea of a good father was far from what Pap was, a drunk. Pap had kidnapped him because he claimed
Huck was more advanced personally; he could read, write, and he had money Miss Watson gave him.
Huck s only chance of a life outside abuse was an escape. I took the axe and smashed in the door I
beat it and hacked it considerable, a doing it. I fetched the pig in and took him back nearly to the table
and hacked into his throat with the ax, and laid him on the ground to bleed (Twain 25). In cases as
such, faking death, or fraudulency in general can be used for good. If escaping a bad life can get you
into a better one, many would say go for it, however; now that Huck is dead he must cover up his
identity to save his true self. In 2013, a film known as Identity Thief , is about a woman in Florida that
steals a man by the name of Sandy Bigilow Patterson s personal

foreshadows how she has no friends at her new school so far... Which tells us she will meet new

afterschool and agrees to not tell Regina just in case she d be mad. While tutoring they kiss and then

Social Information Processing Theory Research Paper
Social Information Processing Theory
Social Information Processing Theory was developed by Joseph Walter s in 1992.It is a subtype of
interpersonal communication theory that explains dynamics of online relationships.
Social Information Processing Theory deals with the nature and structure of online relationships
developed over computed mediated communication (CMC). The theory states that the online
relationships are essentially same as any other form of face to face relationships, only difference being
that online relationship may take longer time to develop.
The Social Information Processing Theory highlights the fact that majority of online relationships
develop in spite of the geographical distance or cultural diversity.
The theory dwells on the fact of the mental image perceived and the mental image portrayed. The
theory states a sender receiver model. The model consists of a sender (where people can select how
they project themselves) and a receiver (people create an ideal image for the person at the other end).
Channel is the medium through which the participants communicate and it is flexible in nature, as on
an online platform people can choose their suitable time. A large amount of communication is also
influenced by the feedback, molding one s portrayed image to align it with the expectations and
responses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The relationships developed online are prone to be more fragile than day to day relationships. It also
involves the fact that in online relationships, people tend to be less inhibited which can have either
positive or negative impact on the relationship. On one hand it opens up the person to share his/her
dreams, desires and feelings and help in strengthening the relationship in long term ; while on the
other hand it can make a person self absorbed and completely insensitive towards the consequences of

The Pyramids Of Ancient Egypt
Within the deserts of Egypt lie the ruins of a colossal ancient civilization. Of all the seven wonders of
the Ancient World, these are the only ones that we have been allowed to appreciate as they are they
only ones still around today. These are, of course, the great pyramids of ancient Egypt. It is obvious
that these structures had a purpose for the ancient Egyptians and were not built simply to impress
future generations. While they seem basic in form, as they are simply four sided pyramids with square
bases, they had a meaning for the pharaohs who had them built. Even by today s standards, the
pyramids of ancient Egypt are an impressive feat of engineering, due to their enormous size, both in
building materials and finished product. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The previous style of burial of Egyptian pharaohs was the mastaba, a flat roofed structure made of
brick. However, at the beginning of the Old Kingdom, stone was introduced as a building material.
Building with stone has been attributed to Imhotep, the most ancient of all known architects. He was
the designer of the first type of Egyptian pyramid, the step pyramid, which was first introduced at the
burial complex of Zoser, just outside the ancient city of Memphis. It was achievements such as these
that gained Imhotep great respect among later Egyptians who not only saw him as a great architect,
but also a magician, astronomer, and the father of the art of medicine (Edwards, 35). Step pyramids
are similar to the pyramids we know today, but instead of being flat on all four sides, they have
setbacks as they rise, giving the appearance of giant steps.
These step pyramids were not true pyramids. However, by the second dynasty of the Old Kingdom,
true pyramids began to take shape. The now ruined pyramid of Meidum is an early example of a true
pyramid. While the ruined core of the superstructure is the only thing that really remains of this
pyramid, archaeologists have deduced that it was originally built as a step pyramid, and then later
converted to a true pyramid by building over the steps, thereby flattening the sides (Edwards, 74 77).
However, the evolution of the true pyramid was not without its flaws. One good example of this

First day of 7th grade was amazing! Final period came and it was computer class. We would just sit on

else got into groups. I sat alone because I had recently transferred to a new school due to moving to a

what my grandma told me and just trust my gut. Walking home wasn t so bad but I took the longest
way home. There was a group of girls I thought seemed nice so I followed them. They noticed me as

there was another girl walking in front of me. I was minding my own business walking home, but she

and when she crossed the street I would too. It was accidental not knowing we lived close to each
other but I can tell it was making her mad and confused because she kept looking back with a mean

Finally, I was almost home and she turns a corner and right before I turn the same corner she confronts

Irony In Alexander Pope s Epistle

Irony as a literary tool was utilized to its full potential by one of the most celebrated poet and satirist
of the eighteenth century, Alexander Pope. He choosed irony as the prime instrument for his satiric hit
as he found irony to be a more delighting and amusing medium. Pope s ironic ability in writing was
well reflected in his verse satires, and his famous epistles. In his works, by means of his humor and
wit, Pope satirized the follies and foibles in men and in the aristocratic society of his time quite
vividly. As an eighteenth century writer, he realized that it was his responsibility to impart to the

seems astounded by the conduct of certain fictitious women. This ironic attitude gets reflected in the
statement Say, what can cause such impotence of mind? A spark too fickle, or a Spouse too kind.
Moreover, as following the Horation tradition, Pope presents a series of portraits of women beginning
with the vicious ones to the noble ones. Irony is intended when grandeur of language and expression is

VO2Max). Previous studies show that jumping rope can also be used to develop the coordination of
neuromuscular skills, muscle strength, and cardiovascular endurance. It burns calories and builds
strength in the upper and lower body (Duzgun, 2010, pg. 184). The researcher hypothesized that these
benefits of jump rope training would result in an increased VO2Max. Before testing, a single

evidence and trust that they received what they asked for. Real faith is more than just believing in

Although this was a problem, it was fairly brief. Since India gained their independence, the country
has faced many problems. These problems include ethnic and religious conflict, poverty and
overpopulation. These problems have been attempted to be solved by the Indian democracy. For
example, The prime minister, Indira Gandhi (1966 77 1980 84) embarked on the green revolution this
increased agricultural yields for India s eight hundred million people. This solved problems of poverty
for a short period of time, this is because India has one of the fastest growing populations in the world.
Gandhi realized this and took stringent action by calling for a state of emergency form 1975 77.
During this time period she imposed very repressive birth control policies, even involuntary
sterilization. Over eight million people were sterilized in an effort to control the overpopulation
problem. This was not the end of India s problems though, in 1980 the religious divide proved to be a
deadly one. Gandhi took it upon herself to fix the problem, ordering the army to attack a sacred temple
which harbored Sikh extremists. She did this all because this particular religion wanted more

Today I was thinking about the day I spent down there waiting for the gas man to come. Let me
explain... Since all power, gas and water had been shut down for some time we had to get everything
working again. As I sat in that 44 degree house waiting for the gas man to get everything up and
running, I got a glimpse out the window. I saw two ducks floating in the lagoon with garbage all
around them and I started to take it all in for the first time since that October day had changed
everything down there. It was a symbol of the past and the present coming together. There we were in
a house that was so cold and alone. Only one month before the storm hit I was there with a bunch of
friends enjoying my world and my life and this house saw so much laughter, fun and good friends
come together. It was alive! All summer long we were down there enjoying our New House. It was
new because Hurricane Irene had ruined the one that stood there before. This New House was only

I looked out into the night. It was just starting to get dark, the houses around me and across from me

Task 2
Year round schooling is better than traditional schooling because, the summer retention is much
higher, special education and english language learners benefit much more, end of the year test scores
are higher and the year round school calendar fits our culture more now than it used to with the
traditional school year.
As an education major with a focus in special education, I was trying to figure out what to write and
research for this paper. Starting to look at the the topics list at the bottom was the topic Year Round
Schools. Looking at that and realizing, that sounded like a silly idea when I was a student, why would
I not want a longer summer break. However as I am an educator myself now and realize that a one or
two week break every other month sounds a like terrific idea. Then after researching the topic I
learned that not only is the schedule different but they re many more benefits to year round schools
than their traditional counterparts. Year round school research shows that their children have better
end of the year test scores. They also show that English language learner children and Special
Education children learn at a faster pace than the children at traditional schools with the same
programs. Also the summer break retention rate of what the children learn throughout the year and
then remember is much higher in year round

Multiple Sclerosis: How the Disease Manifest Our Life More than 400,000 of people are diagnosed
with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in America and approximately 2.3million cases in the world (Multiple
Sclerosis International Federation, 2013). Multiple Sclerosis is one of the most common neurological
diseases of the central nervous system (CNS) (Wei, 2014). The myelin sheath that wraps around the
nerve fibers is being attacked by our body immune system, which affects the body s actions and
responses as cell to cell communication to and from the brain is delayed (Mendes, 2016). The disease
commonly affects people between the age of 20 to 50, and women are more likely than men to

Hurt Locker Analyse
The Hurt Locker is a film written by Mark Boal and directed by Kathryn Bigelow. It depicts several
solders journeys while they are station at Camp Victory in Iraq. TH title is GI slang for a severe injury,
however it s commonly used in American sports like hockey. TO many this may have seemed like
another war movie but the use of sound and camera movement is what makes this movie so engaging.
The writer depicts the theme of how war can be an addiction, and how the soldiers must use the drug
in order to survive war. This is emphasized through the main character; not only through his actions
but also symbolically through the cigarettes he smokes. This concept is more clearly shown at the end
of the film when James goes home and he cant stop thinking about the war. He ends up returning to
battle, despite having to leave his son and wife again. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The non diegetic sounds would the music that plays. It s instrumental and uses long, low and eerie
sounds to intensify scenarios. The music also foreshadows what is going to happen, when the tempo
of the music changes the viewer knows that something is going to happen. Depending on the change
to the music will allow the viewer to know if something good or something bad is going to happen.
For example when the music starts to get deeper and slower usually all the commotion slows down
and the camera is only focused one solider. On the other hand when the music is fast the scenes are
usually full of movement and chaotic. The diegetic sounds in the film were the speaking and sounds of
the surrounding area. Most of the dialogue was between the three main soldiers: James, Sanborn and

gunshots. All of these diegetic sounds makes the film seem more natural and were necessary in order

Legal Age Research Paper
Do not tell teenagers or young adults that they are too young to do something. Do not tell them that
they are too young to understand the way of adult life. In today s society, people tend to believe that
young adult and teenagers are too immature to make life essential decisions. Some argue that the legal
age of 18 should be riesen to the age of 25 due to scientific and learning purposes. While others argue
that it should be brought down to a lower age. For example, many think the age of sixteen should be

Watching A National Football Soccer
Introduction In 2013, 205 million unique viewers tuned in to watch a National Football League game
at some point. Games were broadcast to over 80 percent of homes with a television in the United
States, and twenty two games over the course of the season were watched by at least 25 million
viewers, individually. Since 2003, average viewership of the NFL has risen 31%, and in 2013 NFL
games accounted for 46 of the 50 most watched telecasts of the fall for viewers 18 59 (Bibel). The
point is clear: while it may not be a problem, the United States very clearly has a football obsession.
The obsession is so much so that more Americans list the NFL as their favorite sport than the National
Hockey League, Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association combined (Rovell).
Now, it is not unusual for certain countries to hold an association with a certain sport. Brazil, most
notably, loves its soccer. New Zealanders love rugby, and Canadians love hockey. These associations
make sense, and sports provide for many positive cultural pillars that exist across the world today. At a
base level, the NFL does that for Americans as well. It provides an opportunity for families to get
together on Sundays, or for old friends to get together at the bar, or for a great way to wrap up a
Thanksgiving meal (2013 s Thanksgiving Day game was the most highly viewed show of the fall)
(Bibel). However, when analyzed at a deeper level, more alarming observations can be made. For

The Water Body Of Water
An oligotrophic body of water has a low nutrient level, which allows for more light penetration. It has
high dissolved oxygen rates, deep waters and low algal growth. The bottom of the water bodies
(lakes), are made of rock, gravel, or sand. The oligotrophic water bodies are home to smallmouth bass,
lake trout, pike, sturgeon and whitefish.
Eutrophic bodies of water have higher nutrient levels, which causes poor light penetration. There is
low dissolved oxygen and shallow water. This all causes higher algal growth. The bottom of the lakes
are made of silt, sand or clay. Carp, bullheads or catfish can be found in the lakes.
Eutrophication is a serious concern for lakes as it can turn an oligotrophic body of water into a
eutrophic body of water, which is dangerous to the ecological diversity.
2. Most natural transistions from an oligotrophic water body to an eutrophic water body will happen
over time, through, sediment erosion, leaf litter, or dying aquatic vegetation and other organisms. As
well, some anaerobic microbes become incapable of performing their tasks, causing a lack of proper
waster digestion and water purifications, this builds up algae which slowly leads to the water body
becoming an Eutrophic lake.
Humans of course tend to speed up these sorts of problems. For more point source pollution there are
the obvious actual pollution, of sewage, garbage, chemicals or otherwise that we empty off into lakes.
However, even atmospheric pollution can lead to lakes

Aristotle s Definition Of Courage
Courage is something that everybody wants to have. It is an attribute of good character that makes a
person worthy of respect. A courageous person understands the danger and decides to overcome their
fear by acting according to their values. Courage is wisely balanced between the weaknesses of
cowardice and recklessness. Asking their selves, reminding about fear, enlarging the comfort zone,
and doing something to engage ones cognition helps a person be courageous without being reckless.
No one in this world is fearless. Everyone has a fear of something or someone. Having courage of
overcoming the fear is what a person need to be able to live a perfect life. Aristotle believed that the
personification of courage is facing noble death at the hands of the enemy during ones offensive attack

bravery. Bravery is demonstrated by good or evil. Courage is a virtue that requires a person to be

Credit Cards Disadvantages
There are many banks in the world. They have been offering many services for their users. Among
them, one service is credit cards. They produced many kinds of credit cards such as student card,

on. Credit cards are very useful in our daily life. It is an electronic payment system. It can use every
time and everywhere. It is a small thing that makes a small plastic card. We can take it easy. Therefore,
we don t need to carry a lot of money. Recent year, credit cards are very popular in Myanmar.
Although there are many advantages for using it, on the other hand, it has many disadvantages.
Nowadays, almost people are used electronic payment cards such as credit card, debit card and so on.
Credit cards are more popular than other electronic payment cards because it not requires saving
money first in the user bank. According to Vera Birukova (26/12/2017), a credit card allows you to
borrow money to pay for things. There will be a limit to how much you can borrow called your credit
limit. At the end of each month you can either pay off the full amount you owe or pay defined
minimum proportion of the bill by a due date. There are many advantages for using it because we can
buy things in another country without having to worry about local currency. We can make purchases
with it on online, can save money for transportation, and can t waste a time. Many credit cards offer
some type of insurance if your purchase is stolen. But there are many disadvantages for using it
because it can take some crimes such as fraud among cardholders. The biggest disadvantage is that
they are inviting cardholders to spend more money that they don t yet have. It is far too easy to spend
more than you can afford using a credit card. Credit cards can be stolen, as can cash. They may be
physically stolen or someone may steal your credit card number from a website, over the phone etc.

Witchcraft And Magic Became A Taboo
The use of witchcraft and magic became a taboo in early modern Europe. Most individuals living in
Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries believed that these witches could connect with a different
realm to influence the world they found themselves in, the natural world. There was no way of
pointing out a witch and so these arbitrary guidelines made by looking at stereotypes that outcasts had,
led them early modern Europe into the witch hunts, where unfair trials meant the lives of innocent
individuals were lost. Through the documents found in The Trial of Tempel Anneke, the use of
witchcraft and other forms of sorcery were sought after to aid in time of need, but the actual practice
of witchcraft and use magic were frowned upon by Christians who linked this practice to Satan and
would culminate with the witch s death after an unfair trial.
For those individuals living in Brunswick during the seventeenth century, it was socially acceptable to
go to witches for help. These witches were seen as unconventional healers, who used herbs as
remedies to treat different ailments. While these remedies were unusual to most, their effectiveness
kept bringing back those who sought a witches services. Even though it was acceptable for individuals
to seek the help of a witch, it was frowned upon for a witch to use magic or any form of sorcery to aid
individuals. The people who turned to witches for help were barely punished, but the witch in question

The Open Boat by Stephen Crane
The Open Boat
The relationship between man and nature
Many stories talk about the idea of fate, the idea that no matter how much a person tries to survive,
nature ultimately chooses the person s path of life. The short story, The Open Boat by Stephen Crane
illustrates the relationship between nature and man and how nature s indifference towards man s effort
for survival. In this account, the narrator, Stephen Crane explains to the readers that no matter how
hard one tries to fight nature in order to survive, at the end nature will ultimately take its course and
kill off the unwanted humans that are in its way.
i. The significance of the setting ii. Stylistic devices of color iii. Use of animal characteristics and god
characteristics iv. Repetition
v. Brotherhood but ultimately a fight for themselves
The setting of the story is one example of nature s determining the fate of the four people on the
shipwreck boat. The story opens with the four men struggling for survival by telling the readers, none
of them knew the color of the sky... the men knew the colors of the sea (shorter seventh edition, 189).
This presents the mood of confusion and stress because it shows that they are focusing on their own
issues to survive the waves of the ocean as opposed to looking at the clouds and daydreaming.
Additionally, the article Contemplating Sand and Trees in The Open Boat and the Odyssey explains
that this quote reflects the uncertainty and loneliness of the situation, as

Essay On Ultra Wide Monitor
5. Ultrawide VS 4k Montior Which one should I buy?
Well, they are both suitable for very different kind of users. Both of them offer a lot of screen space
for productivity. But an ultrawide is more recommended for multi tasking.
Sure, you can work with multiple applications on a 4K display, but it would be hard to read unless you

As for gamers, you need to know that between an ultra wide monitor or a 4K, the latter demands a

As for gamers, multiple monitors can be annoying for long gaming sessions since you ll have to
constantly move your head to enjoy everything that s happening on two or three different screens.
On the other hand, ultrawide monitor won t cause this kind of problem as a single curved screen offers
enough viewing space without the hassle of maneuvering your head all the time.
Also, unlike a multi monitor setup, ultrawide monitors will provide an immersive experience on a
giant single screen and that too without any bezels.
Moreover, you ll also get lots of features in an ultrawide gaming monitor like G Sync, Free Sync,
Gameplus Technology, Flicker Free technology, and gaming mode in the adjustment settings.
Combined, all of these features will give you a more enjoyable gaming experience than a dual or triple

In short, I think buying an ultrawide unit is better than a multiple monitor setup for productivity and
gaming.
Even if it costs a bit more, the advantages of an ultrawide monitor give it an edge over a dual or triple

Inca Civil War Research Paper
Ariel Durant wrote, A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from

throat muscles relax too much, which causes the airway to begin to collapse. This will either make it
harder to breathe forcing air past it is what causes the snoring noise or it makes your body think it s
being suffocated.
When this happens, your body panics and thinks it s suffocating. You suddenly wake up, but not quite
completely. Instead, you fall back to sleep because your airway is open again. As you fall asleep, the
airway collapses a little, and you have this horrible cycle of sleeping, gasping for air, and falling back
to sleep again. This is officially known as oObstructive sSleep aApnea (OSA).

Constructing The Smart Cities
Title
Constructing the smart cities The design perspective
Introduction
Humanity has officially become an urban species with more than half of the global population living
in urban areas, and this would increase to 70% by 2050 (Gruen, 2013). To response the living
condition, smart city has been touted as a vanguard of strategies for urban development and
regeneration. There exists some cities are over age world, while some of them seem immoderately
technocratic and instrumental, as they have been envisaged only from a technological standpoint in
recent years.
Indeed a smart city is an open city and based on data, so that public bodies need to discover a
speculation of openness, making data freely accessible online. Campbell (2011) ... Show more content

Designers should consider how might people find it easier to get to their destinations and how might
people find new ways to save energy.
It is obvious that the smart city is not only about technology it is also based on human and social
capitals, wise management of natural resources, participatory governance.
Designing a smart city requires visionary leaderships to guide the build out of the smart city platform
architecture.
Those aspects of transformation are out of scope for this article but it is very important to be mindful
of them. But we can envision the components of the smart city architecture. The following smart city
architecture representation can serve as a starting point for defining the platform services and
components needed to deliver the digital transformation for citizens. This reference can inform the
human collaboration toward the smart city vision.
This needs people from different fields to complete the smart city design.
A city can be defined as smart when investments in human and social capital and traditional and
modern communication infrastructure fuel sustainable economic development and a high quality of
life, with a wise management of natural resources, through participatory governance.
Smart Cities are employing information and communication technologies in the quest for sustainable
economic development and the fostering of new forms of collective life.

Passion To Teach For America
While my dedication to teaching at some capacity has been a lifelong passion, I would like to explain
why I want to join Teach for America by starting at the beginning of my own academic journey:
I could not read a sentence until I was in third grade, two to three full years behind my average peer.
In addition to being hopelessly behind in both reading and mathematics, I had terrible experiences
with bullying. The combination of poor academic performance and social issues was deadly to my
ability to learn. It took a year and two teachers who were incredibly dedicated to my individual
progress to catch me up to my peers. And that was all I needed two teachers who noticed and cared to
begin my work towards an eventual Ivy League education

all areas of work 1. What are some of the benefits of diversity in the workplace? Give at least five
examples.
2. How can you respect diversity in all areas of work? Give at least three examples.
3 What does the behaviour of someone who respect inclusiveness look like?
4 Give three examples of inclusive principles.
1 Ans: The benefits of diversity in the workplace are ;
a) High productivity: In the workplace there are numerous people belonging to different caste, culture
,sex ,class etc. and each individual has the capacity to offer different views and ideas to a particular
problem or challenge. Thus it increases employee morale and ... Show more content on

e) Equal opportunities: When the workforce comprises of a diverse group then the workplace becomes
a place where every individual is valued and appreciated. Understanding , appreciating and valuing all
staffs members different sets of skills and abilities and offering fair ,courtesy and equal opportunities
to all individuals becomes the prime motive of the company.
2 Ans: We can respect diversity in all areas of work by recognising the positive value of a diverse
community of staff, affiliates and students. The diverse workforce comprises of an individual
belonging to different background , gender , lifestyles , sexuality, socio economic status , family
composition , personal beliefs and values. Therefore respecting diversity is about trust ,honesty ,
acknowledgement, and respect for one another personal beliefs and values.
For example;
1) Children and families may suffer if their identity, culture and language are ignored. In a classroom
if the black are ignored and the white are respected then this results in clashes among the black society
and white society. So the teacher must maintain equality among all the students in the class and give
them the opportunity to reflect in the society.
2) In some of the Asian country, especially in a patriarchal family system

Running Argumentative Analysis
When people talk about exercise, there is one main workout that most people have done in their life.
That exercise is running. For some, running isn t just a way to go out and get healthy, running can be a
way for people to escape the stressful lives they live in and go out and explore the world on the
endless trail running has to offer. While most people think this, some have a different opinion on the
topic. Some feel as though running is not healthy for you at all in the long run, and that it can cause
some serious health effects to your body in the long run. However, after getting the facts from both
sides of the argument, anyone will agree that running will benefit your health in the long run
physically and mentally. For those who enjoy running, they say that there is a lot of evidence to
support the fact that running not only affects you physically, but it helps you ... Show more content on

What s more, scientists have shown that running also vastly improves the quality of your emotional
and mental life, and even helps you live longer (Van Allen). Running not only keeps you in shape but
it can keep you from getting serious health problems later in life. Most importantly, it can better
improve the chance of you living longer in life. For many this would be a situation where you wouldn
t even have to think twice about whether or not to start running long distances every day for the rest of
your life. Some people have one goal in life, and that is to live as long as possible however that may
be. Of course there will never be a for sure way to protect you from disease or anything else that can
kill you, but why not try something fun that is good. At the same time it will give you a better chance
at survival in the long

Tiana Lanier Professor Lara Chapman Rhetorical Communication: A Theory of Civil Discourse July 7th, 2015 Rhetorical Discourse in Two Distinct Pieces of Work; Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address Emily Dickinson s Success is Counted Sweetest Rhetoric is often denoted to as the art of persuasion. A set of linguistic traits and semantics used to evoke emotional responses from its intended audience, opening the floor for unanticipated influence by said audience. It would be an atrocity to ignore the efforts behind this simple yet powerful manipulation. This is referred to as rhetorical discourse. Essentially, there are six characteristics of rhetorical discourse, these characteristics being; rhetoric is planned, adapted to an audience, shaped by human motives, responsive to a situation, seeks persuasion, and is concerned with contingent issues (Herrick 8). Further, each of the characteristics lends itself to support the social functions of rhetoric; testing ideas, assisting advocacy, distributing power, unearthing facts, shaping knowledge, and building communities (Herrick 15). It is with these sentiments in which one compares the rhetorical discourse used in both former President Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural address, and Emily Dickinson s Success is Counted Sweetest. Here the characteristics of rhetorical discourse will be used as a guide for the differences in these two pieces of work. Though both are essentially about the civil war, they share great ... • 4. The Impact of China s One-Child Policy on Its Economic... : What is the impact of China s one child policy on its economic growth over the years? This paper will show that the standard econometric estimation conceals the takeoff effect and thus underestimates the economic impact of demographic changes. In effect, the impact of China s one child policy moved the timing of the economic take off by a decade. The original intent of the one child policy was for economical purposes. The authorities envisioned reducing the demand of natural resources, reducing the rate of exploitation, and reducing unemployment caused by surplus labor, and maintaining a steady labor rate. 100 words Keywords: economic transition, one child policy, and demographic changes. JEL Classification: 1. Introduction At the start of China s economic reforms in late 1970s, the Chinese leadership established population control as one of its main priorities. The post Mao leadership believed that China population control was the key to ensure growth in per capita income. This led to the elevation of the one child policy. The one child policy of China was the official family planning policy that was aimed at controlling the population of China. The one child was introduced in 1979 mainly to help in alleviating economic, social and environmental problems in China. It was estimated by demographers that the policy helped avert about 200 million births between 1979 and 2009 although some other estimates puts it at 400 million. • 5. Analysis Of saturn His Son, At The Museum Of El Prado... I first saw this painting, Saturn Devouring His Son, at the Museum of El Prado alongside the other Black Paintings. My initial reaction was of fear. These are artworks that should not be simply seen in front of a computer screen. The thickness of the paint and the careful attention to details; these are things that are missed if not seen in person. Upon walking into the small room the first painting that draws the attention of visitors is this painting. Not only is this a grotesque piece in an otherwise frightening room, Saturn also looks like he s rather enjoying this action, and his intense glare from his bulging eyes gives the impression as if you (the viewer) are the next target. The goal for this essay is to show Goya s way of depicting events that have affected not only society but him personally. It is a mythological subject that literally shows Saturn devouring his son. Light is very important as it focuses directly on the face of Saturn and the body of his son. It is a blinding light that leaves the dark background with a feeling of gloominess. The composition revolves around a single plane in which Saturn is placed devouring his victim. The dark background marks the sense of depth. Violent motion appreciates both his posture, and his mouth. His face reflects an expression of drama and tenebrism. The predominant color on the drawing emphasizes the dark tones that contrast with the clarity of the body of the victim. His deformity produces more drama in the scene. ... The mixing of races has been going on for hunherds of years and dates back to the unfortunate years of slavery. Examples Of Identity In Huckleberry Finn The Hoax of Personalities In Mark Twain s the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the true identity of an individual is questioned countless times between three central characters. Along with identity, one s self pride can also be at task. The inheritance of money, faking death, and the will to be free are at hand to become a true successor in the journey northward. With help from the so called King and Duke, their mission to Cairo is put more at risk rather than if Huck and Jim remained alone. Before the trip even started, Huck had to escape the imprisonment of his cruel and abusive father, Pap. Huck s idea of a good father was far from what Pap was, a drunk. Pap had kidnapped him because he claimed Huck was more advanced personally; he could read, write, and he had money Miss Watson gave him. Huck s only chance of a life outside abuse was an escape. I took the axe and smashed in the door I beat it and hacked it considerable, a doing it. I fetched the pig in and took him back nearly to the table and hacked into his throat with the ax, and laid him on the ground to bleed (Twain 25). In cases as such, faking death, or fraudulency in general can be used for good. If escaping a bad life can get you into a better one, many would say go for it, however; now that Huck is dead he must cover up his identity to save his true self. • 10. Social Information Processing Theory Research Paper Social Information Processing Theory Social Information Processing Theory was developed by Joseph Walter s in 1992.It is a subtype of interpersonal communication theory that explains dynamics of online relationships. Social Information Processing Theory deals with the nature and structure of online relationships developed over computed mediated communication (CMC). The theory states that the online relationships are essentially same as any other form of face to face relationships, only difference being that online relationship may take longer time to develop. The Social Information Processing Theory highlights the fact that majority of online relationships develop in spite of the geographical distance or cultural diversity. The theory dwells on the fact of the mental image perceived and the mental image portrayed. The theory states a sender receiver model. The model consists of a sender (where people can select how they project themselves) and a receiver (people create an ideal image for the person at the other end). Channel is the medium through which the participants communicate and it is flexible in nature, as on an online platform people can choose their suitable time. Of all the seven wonders of the Ancient World, these are the only ones that we have been allowed to appreciate as they are they only ones still around today. These are, of course, the great pyramids of ancient Egypt. It is obvious that these structures had a purpose for the ancient Egyptians and were not built simply to impress future generations. While they seem basic in form, as they are simply four sided pyramids with square bases, they had a meaning for the pharaohs who had them built. Even by today s standards, the pyramids of ancient Egypt are an impressive feat of engineering, due to their enormous size, both in building materials and finished product. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The previous style of burial of Egyptian pharaohs was the mastaba, a flat roofed structure made of brick. However, at the beginning of the Old Kingdom, stone was introduced as a building material. Building with stone has been attributed to Imhotep, the most ancient of all known architects. He was the designer of the first type of Egyptian pyramid, the step pyramid, which was first introduced at the burial complex of Zoser, just outside the ancient city of Memphis. It was achievements such as these that gained Imhotep great respect among later Egyptians who not only saw him as a great architect, but also a magician, astronomer, and the father of the art of medicine (Edwards, 35). Step pyramids are similar to the pyramids we know today, but instead of being flat on all four sides, they have setbacks as they rise, giving the appearance of giant steps. These step pyramids were not true pyramids. However, by the second dynasty of the Old Kingdom, true pyramids began to take shape. The now ruined pyramid of Meidum is an early example of a true pyramid. While the ruined core of the superstructure is the only thing that really remains of this pyramid, archaeologists have deduced that it was originally built as a step pyramid, and then later converted to a true pyramid by building over the steps, thereby flattening the sides (Edwards, 74 77). However, the evolution of the true pyramid was not without its flaws. One good example of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Year Round Schooling Is Better Than Traditional Schooling Year Round Schools Versus Traditional Schools By: Shaun Herman Shaun Herman 4/11/2016 Task 2 Year round schooling is better than traditional schooling because, the summer retention is much higher, special education and english language learners benefit much more, end of the year test scores are higher and the year round school calendar fits our culture more now than it used to with the traditional school year. As an education major with a focus in special education, I was trying to figure out what to write and research for this paper. Starting to look at the the topics list at the bottom was the topic Year Round Schools. Looking at that and realizing, that sounded like a silly idea when I was a student, why would I not want a longer summer break. The bottom of the lakes are made of silt, sand or clay. Carp, bullheads or catfish can be found in the lakes. Eutrophication is a serious concern for lakes as it can turn an oligotrophic body of water into a eutrophic body of water, which is dangerous to the ecological diversity. 2. Most natural transistions from an oligotrophic water body to an eutrophic water body will happen over time, through, sediment erosion, leaf litter, or dying aquatic vegetation and other organisms.
