Contemporary Sociological Theory Reviewed Essay
1. Our understanding of contemporary capitalist culture and globalization has been greatly
influenced by neo Marxism. There have been many significant events all over the world such as
the Great Depression, The Second World War which have contributed to our understanding of
contemporary capitalist culture. There has been a false consciousness associated with this time
and date since capitalism continues to deliver the goods (Adams Sydie, 2002: 90). The beginning
of the end of capitalist conflict and the beginning of the beginning of socialism came with the U.S.
economic and military dominance after 1945 and also, on the other side of the coin, the Stalinist
model of socialist development failed to live up to it s own Marxist... Show more content on

They noted that the class structures of these societies were products of neo imperialism. The
domination is achieved through investment, the control of technological expertise, money
through the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. The term Monopoly Capitalism
covers all of those aspects. Wallerstein proposed an analytic framework. He felt he was
conducting world system analysis and not writing world system theory. He believed there were
three factors which were essential when establishing a world economy. First, he saw an
expansion of the geographical size of the world in question. Second, the development of
variegated methods of labor control for different products and different zones of the world
economy, and Third, the creation of relatively strong state machineries in what would become the
core states of this capitalist world economy (121). Wallerstein identifies the core, periphery and
the semi periphery. The core is the economic interest which control productive activities. The
periphery is the opposite of the core. The core controls all of the periphery s resources. The semi
periphery is the mid point between the core and the periphery. It serves as a gray zone with
independent capital yet is dependent on the core for much of it s infrastructure. Wallerstein
identifies three means for moving from periphery to a semi periphery. First he talks about seizing
the chance. This is when an

Effects Of Emerging Economies On North America s Economy...
Introduction:
This report is intended to brief the reader on the effects of emerging economies on North America
s economy and the global market on a whole. This report provides an overview of the emerging
economies of India China; their education, ideological beliefs economic performance and how
North America s way of business is affected. This report was compiled based on articles from
reputable sources, such as Bloomberg and articles published within the industry. This report was
authorized by Mr. Laviolette, an Accounting teacher at Jean Vanier Catholic High School.
Overview of Global Economy:
Today s Global economy is governed by a delicate balance of variables. The addition of a new
economy to the global market affects all of the pre existing variables, bringing with it a host
challenges and opportunities. Much like an initial public offering, countries may buy in or develop
economic agreements with the emerging market economy (EME). This often results in the country
buying in to the emerging economy, getting services or products at a discounted rate, while the
emerging economy gets business like China and the United States. These types of agreement may
result in the poorer country sacrificing its citizens well being, to ramp up for economic growth, like
China. In the end most countries economies are interconnected for example with the United States
Canada relationship. If one country s economy were to collapse there would be strongly adverse
effects on the

The Effect Of Residual Stress On The Performance And...
ABSTRACT
Residual stresses [1, 2] are of great importance in any manufacturing industry as it plays a major
role in determining the structural integrity of the component being engineered. Residual stresses
highly influence the strength, stability, resistance, fatigue life and performance of the component
manufactured. These properties being affected leads to failure and repair of the component or the
entire structure. Hence it is essential to measure the residual stresses present in a component and to
relax these stresses to improve the performance and reliability of the component. A residual stress
analysis in design phase is compulsory in order to estimate the reliability of the component [1].
Many residual stress measurement techniques have been developed for a reliable assessment of the
residual stresses. The methods are classified into destructive and non destructive based on the
practical application of the method employed on the component under study. Non destructive
techniques are preferred over destructive as they do not damage the material or specimen under
study [2]. In recent years many techniques have emerged to facilitate the destructive measurement
techniques. The aim of this report is to review the destructive methods used for residual stress
measurement and the recent developments of measurement techniques favoring destructive
methods. iii DEDICATION

Ethnic Identity Development
Ethnic Identity Development Ethnic identity development of ethnic minorities in the United States
has attracted an increasing attention in the adolescent development and college transition literature.
A review of literature related to ethnic identity development highlights two major lines of research:
1) identity processes from a developmental perspective and 2) the content and meaning of ethnic
identity (Phinney, 1989; Seller et al., 1997; Yip, 2014). Some scholars have specifically examined
the developmental progression that individuals go through as they come to understand their ethnic
identity and make a commitment (Phinney, 1993). Other scholars have focused on exploring the
content, significance, and meaning of ethnic identity within... Show more content on

Hoping to address the limitations of the MEIM, Umana Taylor, Yazedjian Bamaca Gomez (2004)
created the Ethnic Identity Scale (EIS), which is primarily based on Erikson s and Tajfel s theories.
The EIS consists of 46 assessing three distinct components of ethnic identity: exploration,
resolution, and affirmation. The exploration subscale assesses the extent to which individuals have
explored their ethnic identity; resolution subscale assesses the extent to which individuals have
resolved issues related to their ethnic identity, and affirmation refers to the feelings (positive or
negative) individuals associated with their ethnic identity. Using the three subscales while being
consistent with Marcia s (1980) identity statuses, Umana Taylor et al. (2004) proposed a new
categorization scheme which classifies individuals into 8 ethnic identity statuses: diffuse positive,
diffuse negative, foreclosed positive, foreclosed negative, moratorium positive, moratorium
negative, achieved positive, and achieved negative. For example, diffuse positive characterizes
individuals who scored low on both exploration and resolution subscales, but with high affirmation.
Unlike the MEIM, the EIS allows researchers to take a dimensional approach to understanding
ethnic identity. The score of the subscales are continuous variables, so researchers can examine the
relationship among the three with other variables of

The Beginning Of The Revolutionary War
From the basis of the colonies beginning with the founding of Jamestown until the beginning of the
Revolutionary War, different areas of the eastern coast had different traditional values. Once
established, the thirteen British colonies could be separated into three physical areas: New
England, Middle, and Southern. Each of these had specific economic, social, and political growths
that were distinctive to the territories.
European nations came to the Americas to boost their wealth and expand their influence over
world affairs. The first enduring British colony was established in Jamestown in the Chesapeake
Bay region by the Virginia Company. To honor the memory of Elizabeth I, the never married
Virgin Queen the company s directors named the region Virginia. (pg.41) The Jamestown colonist
had a tough time of it. They were so occupied looking for gold and other exportable assets that
they could barely feed themselves. It wasn t until 1616, that Virginia settlers learned how to farm
tobacco. It became Virginia s main source of revenue and helped the colony survive. The first
African slaves appeared in Virginia in 1619.
Many of the people who put down roots in the New World came to escape religious discrimination.
The Pilgrims, founders of the Plymouth, Massachusetts, turn up in 1620. In both Virginia and
Massachusetts, the settler flourished with some help from the Native Americans. The stream of
migrants created an all out conflict with the neighboring Indians. The

Symptoms And Treatment Of Cancer Patients
1.Introduction:
The numbers of people who are dying due to crucial diseases such as cancer have increased,
according to world health organization (WHO) cited in Jane et al (2008), in
2005, 7.6 million people died from cancer, a figure expected to increase to 9 million people by
2015 , and increasing further to 11.4 million dying in 2030. Therefore, scientists have attempted to
find appropriate solution for those problems. Since the nineteenth century, solutions have been
introduced by scientists, that use radiation for the diagnosis of diseases instead of surgery (Pope,
1999), which has led to great
advances in medicine because diagnostic technology such as CT and X rays scanning, nuclear

ultrasound band of the spectrum. Thus, it has a high energy, which leads to easily
penetrating matter such as skin (Podgorsak, 2006), whenit interactswith matter, the
interactions are in two main different ways:if ionizing radiationdirectly interacts,it is
calleda chargedparticle. On the other hand, if it indirectlyinteracts,it is known
uncharged particle (Knoll, 2010).
2.1.1 Charged particle: This type interacts directly with matter, which can be
generatedfrom fast electrons such as Beta particles or from heavy charged particle
such as; alpha particle.
Beta particle:Most radioactive nucleuses are not stable. Therefore, they start
emitting radiation to be stable, Beta particle is of the type radiation (Graham et al,2012).
This is emitted by radioactive nucleus, the atomic mass number of radioactive nucleus
decreases by one .On the other hand ,atomic number remain the same. It can be seen
from the equation:
(_Z^A)X→(_Z+1^A)Y+β^ ................. (Knoll, 2010)
Thus, z= is atomic mass number of radioactive nucleus
A= Atomic number
X= is radioactive nucleus before emitting
Y= Radioactive nucleus after emitting
Secondly: Alphaparticle produces from the same way of Beta particle; how
ever, the main difference alphaparticle isheavy charged particle and is used in
diverse applications in the medicine (Carson

Symbolism In The Jungle
The difference between now and the early 1900 is massive. Back in the early 1900 human slavery
was pretty common as represented in the book. Freedom has been given as year went by and in
today s generation most countries do give freedom and tries to treat them well and equally.
For example, all human slaves had the rights of life, security and liberty, slaves had few other
types of rights, including political rights which is the protection of the law and equality before
the law, there is also an economic law which includes the right to own property, the right to work
and to receive an equal pay and others as the following social rights, cultural rights and collective
rights. These days it is much easier for women to get in a situation of sexual harassment they have
more options to receive help and any other need therefore men can easily get locked up.

the meat factory. For example, him torturing other workers , and all workers had to fight for
themselves to get out or stay in and earn their money and fight till then want to stop, this go
related to war because in war you have to defend yourself if you get hit and you die, it like A
man for himself which basically means everyone that is fighting for the will have to defend
themselves. Another reason why this relates to war was because of the environment in the factory

Symphony Orchestra Reflection
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Texas State Symphony Orchestra Recital at Evans
Auditorium. The performance was made up of two pieces: Overture to Nabucco composed by
Giuseppe Verdi and Symphony No. 5 E minor op. 64 composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky with
its 4 movements. The theme of the overall performance was Fifth and Fate , depicting the ideas of
life and destiny. Despite its flaws, the concert very well exemplified this theme and overall put on a
delightful and memorable performance. Now, while the performance in its entirety was something
spectacular, like every piece of art, it had its flaws. One thing I noticed throughout the recital was
the lack of balance. At some points, the string section overpowered the horns almost entirely to
where it was nearly impossible to hear them. Granted, the string section was almost three times the
size of the brass, but that is no excuse. A good director would notice this imbalance and make an
attempt to conduct the sections to fix this unequal sound. Simply stating, the strings needed to be
quieter and the horns could ve made an attempt to be louder. A more obvious fault to the untrained
ear was the timing of the orchestra. On occasion, after rests, when an entire section was cued to
come in, they did not come in in unison. There would be a lone bassoon or viola that would come
sometimes as soon as a beat before the rest of the ensemble. This hindered the sense of unity and
harmony the orchestra attempted

The Power Of Myth By Joseph Campbell
Culture is something that influences everyone s individual behaviorisms, both consciously and
unconsciously. Everybody has a personal culture, often learned from other groups, which then have
their own distinct characteristics. Joseph Campbell was a celebrated American scholar who
studied mythology, having popularized the idea of the hero s journey. The Power of Myth is a
book based on the six episode documentary Joseph Campbelland the Power of Myth, in which
Campbell and interviewer Bill Moyers examine the human world. Both discuss Campbell s thoughts
about mythology, and ultimately culture. Campbell s The Power of Myth introduces important
ideas that don t completely agree with my own values, but still shares notable similarities with...

Moreover, Campbell dedicated his life to studying myth and religion, something that I probably
wouldn t choose to do with my time. Another instance where Campbell shared his dissimilar
observations of myths is his assertion that [i]f you were not alert to the parallel themes, you perhaps
would think they were quite different stories, but they re not. (Campbell 14). Campbell has studied
so many myths that he was able to find the universal lessons that humans have learned. Another
interpretation is that Campbell has made the generalization that all myths are essentially the same. I
believe that while there may be overarching themes found throughout myths, there are still key
differences that make each culture s mythology unique. Trying to group everything into a precise
category or combining all myths into a single monomyth makes any other possibilities obsolete.
For example, both my favorite TV show and book series retell well known fairy tales. Finding new
meanings in a story that is otherwise clichГ© can be eye opening. I think myths and fairy tales
alike reflect the variances between cultures and times, which fluctuate, but Campbell concluded that
all myths tell the same story. This is yet another disparity between Campbell s views on myth and
my own.
Campbell s personal values didn t seem to emphasize independence and diversity as much as mine.
For instance, Campbell said that marriage is the

The Things They Carried Kiowa Character Traits
Character Analysis Essay Throughout the story, The Things They Carried, written by Tim O Brien,
the author presents Kiowa as a complex and intelligent trooper by using multiple indirect and
sometimes confusing quotes like, The earth is slow, but the buffalo is patient... (O Brien 35). These
mystical and spiritual quotes/characteristics are why many readers become intrigued by him. Some
of these characterizations can be found through the character s thoughts, his actions/what he says,
and what others say about him. Overall, Kiowa was known for being a kind trooper, a man with
his beliefs straight, and a well respected human being. Numerous times in this book Kiowa

Along with Jimmy Cross, Azar also openly announced his remorse for the young, dead, Native

medium to exploit, control, and intimidate poor immigrant workers into tolerating foul conditions
ultimately affecting their state of health. Since poor immigrant workers are terrified of being

Picture Books Importance on a Child s Development Ever analyzed a picture book before? The

significant to the constant development of a human being, but the specifically to a child. When I

On TV you only see what the media wants you to, but with books the possibilities are boundless
leaving you to take the story for what it s worth and run with it, all the while drawing your own
conclusions. For example, in my house, I would read books and then dart to my parents telling
them about what I just read and what it meant to me, or even how I saw the characters in my own
mind. It s amazing the things you can find out about yourself when you think and create on your
own instead of having someone do it for you. I appreciate those who gave me books, read to me
out loud, or handed me pens to doodle with because if I wasn t given the opportunities to explore
I probably wouldn t be the same person today. Even a kindergartener deserves that type of
freedom and I feel picture books are a great outlet for it. So you see, pictures, even in books help
minds to develop each time you take a glance at them. You gain that freedom in your mind and
can grow and expand to photography, galleries, museums, and even creations of your own
personal art... the possibilities seem endless. I would conclude that picture books are helpful to
people of all ages, especially the minds of children. Will you ever look at books the same

forms of loans, due to their high annual percentage rates.

Many payday loan lenders want to access your bank account.
If you cannot repay your loan and you owe them a lot of money, some lenders will harass and

How to avoid payday loans
Budget your funds. The easiest way to avoid advance loans is to plan your cash accordingly.
Tighten the budget until your cash flow every month is steady. Budgeting should be your first line
of defense.
Always save cash for an emergency. Open a saving account for emergencies. Saving money will
help you when the urgent need for cash arise and offer an alternative to loans.
Request your bank for a small loan. Banks are more than willing to give you a loan if you have
been their customer for a specified period.
Ask a friend to lend you a loan. You can get a person to person loan from individuals who are
willing to give you cash for a small interest rate.

The Issue Of Paid Parental Leave
INTRODUCTION
Is America falling behind the rest of the world in terms of the services it provides? As a proud
citizen of this great nation I, unfortunately, have to say yes. Our once outstanding country has been
falling behind in a number of areas including technology, education, economics, and yes, even in
family care! America is now one of only three industrialized countries that hasn t set up a
nationwide policy for paid parental leave. With this knowledge I desired to know more,
particularly if we as a nation are not doing much to rectify the situation. Then, to learn if any
states were doing something about this issue which effects so many people in the workforce. I
wanted to see exactly how far behind, compared to the rest world, we are in the issue of paid
parental leave. The Pew Research Center conducted a study of government supported leave in
38 OECD countries, and found that the US had the lowest figures with zero weeks of paid leave.
Though we did fare better when it came to the number of weeks provided for protected leave
with 12 weeks. We were still far worse than most other OECD countries (see Figure 1 at right).
Knowing that we were rated worse I wanted to know what people are saying that we can and
should be doing to change this situation?
BACKGROUND
The first recorded policy involving working pregnant women was in 1877 in Switzerland. It stated
that a women could not work for at least six weeks after giving birth. Then in 1878 Germany

What Is John Locke s Second Treatise
The Second Treatise, of Civil Government, written by John Locke, was an influential book in
shaping political philosophy. Locke was an English philosopher known for developing
liberalism. He wrote two treatises altogether to give his overall argument about how society
should be run. The first treatise criticized Robert Filmer s Patriarcha, which talked about the
king s rule over England. The second treatise reviewed Locke s view on the rights of the people.
He often uses the law of Nature as a reference, which refers to the moral principles for people in
society. There are also sections in the book that influenced James Madison in the creation of the
Bill of Rights. One section in the second treatise argues a person should not be deprived of life,
liberty, and property. This belief was incorporated into the fifth amendment when revising the
Constitution. The Second Treatise, of Civil Government influenced several more functions of our
society... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Locke stated that because people are creatures of the same species, they should not be treated
differently than others. Another section starts to explain Locke s view on the process of the
law. He believed that there should be laws created to decide what actions are right or wrong. To
enforce the laws, there would need to be a judge and an executioner. There would also need to
be punishment for a crime to prevent people from committing other ones. That being said, a man
has the right to do what is best for himself and his community, as long as it follows the laws.
Another one of Locke s views stresses the importance of having a legislative branch. A legislative
power should be put in place to govern laws. In order to set laws, each one must apply to everyone,
no matter their class or importance in society. Also, a person cannot simply make a law for them
self and expect everyone else to follow. A law can only be made by people who have the power to

The Definition Of Social Equity In Public Administration
Social equity was presented to public administration first by H. George Frederickson in the 1960s
after the Standing Panel on Social Equity in Governance was created by the National Academy of
Public Administration (NAPA) (Johnson, 2012). Social equity is the fourth pillar of public
administration by the NAPA (Norman Major, 2011). According to the panel their definition of
social equity is fair, just and equitable management of all institutions serving the public directly or
by contract (Johnson, 2012). In Wooldridge, Gooden (2009) they state that the idea of social equity
in public administration is inseparably linked to John Rawlss A Theory of Justice(1971). Rawls
developed the principle of justice as fairness. Fairness is justice would mean that people have
equal rights to basic liberty (Rawls, 1971). To be discussed will be comparison and differences
between many author overtime that has touch social equity regarding its definition, challenges
along with the overall conclusion. The fact that the use of these notions has evolved in different
ways over time (Herrera, 2007) is why this is being mentioned.
What is social equity
Every author interprets and define social equity a little differently. Social equity issues, refers to
the distribution of fairness. (Guy McCandless, 2012). Social equity is rooted in the idea that each
person is equal and has inalienable rights. With America s being a blend of social, religious,
economic, and political characteristics, the

First thing first, let s consider how men newsboy hat can fit men s common outfits. There was a
history of this hat, in which it was the most popular one among newspaper boys in the 80s.
These days, newspaper boys prefer to wear hats with basketball or baseball team logos. Even in

search terms selected for this study included: stress with social workstudents (584hits), anxietyand
MSW students (601 hits), fitness to practice, graduate education, profession (791 hits). Next we
took into account the number of entries being considered; however, usually it is a small
percentage of entries that are found to be relevant to the topic one is searching. Adding the search
terms into various databases yielded a result of a total of 1976 articles. The first 20 results per
entry were examined for relevance. Among these entries, only 10 were found relevant to the
formulated question being observed. Articles that may have been prevalent yet excluded were due
to no funding for the research and many of the additional articles were from other than the United
States. Additionally, articles must have been written in English to be considered.

The Definition of Organic Foods Should Be Redefined Essay
Organic versus non organic foods are always being debated to whether they are worth the extra
cost. This seems to be an easy question, at first, but begs a more in depth analysis to come to a
conclusion. Organic definitions can vary by government, company and even individuals. Many
people have their own ideas of what organic means. My personal definition, before this research
assignment, was that organic products were grown with no pesticides, chemical additives, or
preservatives and grown in a humane way. Meaning that if it said 100% organic, that is what was
meant. This however, is not the case when it comes to the government s definition of organic,
according to T. A. Niewold who wrote, Organic More Healthy; Green Shoots in a... Show more

If these claims prove to be true, as some research suggests, then this may be well worth the cost
if one can afford them. In the case of the meat we eat, how do we know that it is truly organic
(hence the necessity for a more strict definition), and why do we even need it to be? There are
several reasons for us to eat organic meat, depending on what the definition ultimately ends up
being. One reason to eat organic meat is the fact of the spread of Bovine spongiform
encephalopathy or what is more commonly known as Mad Cow Disease. There is a human
form of this disease called New Variant Creutzfeldt Jakob disease (NCJD). This disease was first
brought to light in the 1990 s in Europe by the discovery of link between these two diseases
(Freudenrich, 3). If one had lived in Europe in the early 90 s, for at least six months, (as my
family and I did) they may have been exposed to this disease. In the past, cows (who are naturally
herbivores) were fed remnants of dead and dying sheep. Sheep that possibly had the disease
called, Scrapie which is similar to BSE, and could explain the reason for the infection to have
started in cows, eventually jumping to humans (Freudenrich, 6). The theory of how this disease
came about varies, but one of the most prevalent relates to a protein called a prion . These prions

Nosferatu Essay
Response 1 Nosferatu
My experience watching a feature length silent film was very interesting, to say the least. I found it
amazing that they were able to tell a complete story on only visual elements. Nosferatu had many
similarities to A trip to the Moon by George Melies. Comparatively it had more storytelling
elements character development purely due to film length. I feel it would be very challenging to
produce such a complex story under the constraints of such a short film. I believe my experience
to be very typical of someone who has never watched a full length silent film, I was gripped with
curiosity on how this film would tell the great story of Dracula without the stereotypical screams
and jump scares that horror movies today bring to the screen. I feel like the film did a fantastic
job of telling the story with the limitations of being able to use sound. I will be very interested in
watching another full length silent film from that era to see the difference in writing and filming

In our class we learned a lot about the various military regimes that occurred throughout Latin

way measured up to the brutality of the Argentinian dictatorship or the ruthlessness of the

However to the militaries dismay on January 6, 1963, Joao was able to turn the government back

However Joao and the military s relationship was fine until the navy revolted. On March 25,

Middle Childhood Attachment Research
The relationship that a child shares with a parent compares to no other. The child is a creation of
both the mother and the father, therefore, exhibiting both characteristics and behaviors that the
parents illustrate, that the child could then possibly imitate. During the middle childhood years, it
is to some extent similar to the preschool years. This timeframe is well known as the calm after
the preschool years, before the storms of adolescence hit. (Holden, p. 262) This is the point where
the child shifts from being in the house to a variety of social environments that affects the child s
developmental stage. Research has shown that the development of child behavior problems in

This can be a problem as more devices connect to and use a network the more data they use and
can cause a network to become congested. A solution to reduce congestion is to use many small
wireless receivers within the range of a large tower to spread out the devices upon smaller more
confined networks when within cities and high density areas. And simply using long range low
capacity towers when in the country side and places where fewer devices will be on a network
at any given time, this is a combination of macro cells and micro cells to ensure network
stability. At layer 2 comes the need to differentiate between devices on the network and needs a
standard to work in place usually used at layer 2 in IP based communications over the internet is
Ethernet II and uses MAC addresses differentiating between devices by using a hexadecimal
format. This is done by burning a unique ID into a network card by a manufacturer, however
rather than the normal Wi Fi a better option for long range communications is WiMAX. The
differences in Wi Fi and WiMAX is that WiMAX has an effective distance of up to 90km while Wi
Fi only has a range of up to 100m and data rates on WiMAX is up to 40mbps compared to Wi Fi
with up to 54mbps. Next layer 3 the Network layer is where the Internet Protocol (IP) will take

Biography Of George Orwell Research Paper
Born on June 25, 1903, in Motihari, Bengal, India, Eric Arthur Blair would go on to be known
by the pseudonym George Orwell, a British novelist, essayist, and critic ( George Orwell
Biography ). Orwell is best known for his novels Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty Four, which
are now both classics. Although he never entirely abandoned his original name, his first major
work in 1933, Down and Out in Paris and London, appeared as the work of George Orwell
(Woodcock). His pseudonym would later become so attached to him that few people but his
relatives knew his true name (Woodcock). Nowadays, still very few know of his true name. This

Barcelona against communists who were trying to suppress their political opponents

Pros And Disadvantages Of Wiretapping
Wiretapping is an essential tool in finding wanted men, but at the same time the Government
likes to abuse this power. Before we get any further I feel I should explain what Wiretapping
actually is. Wiretapping is the practice of connecting a listening device to a telephone line to
secretly monitor a conversation. . Now that s the definition that google gave me so I ll try and
explain it in my own words. Basically after the 9/11 terrorist attacks a new law was passed
Called the Patriot Act , Which stated; Section 215 of the USAPATRIOT Act allows the
government to secretly request and obtain library records for large numbers of individuals without
any reason to believe they are involved in illegal activity. In other words it allowed the

you can argue saying they already do that but that s for lower law enforcement. If you think the

beyond comprehension. They re probably listening in on me right know watching me through
my laptop camera. Like any good debate I will talk about both sides i.e for/against. In all honesty
I see this having a higher against margin than for. Like seriously who likes to get spied on?
Weirdos that s who. Let s get started shall we. wiretapping should it be illegal? Why or why not?

Executive summary
Kotler defines marketing as a social and managerial process by which individuals and groups obtain
what they want and need through creating, offering, and exchanging products of value with others.
his view on marketing looks at marketing being more of an exchange process. [Kotler, 1991]
In Elements of marketing, Prentice Hall, 1975; Marketing is all those activities involved in getting
goods from producers to users, including buying, selling, storing, transporting, advertising, and

Thus Waitrose concentrates on providing high quality own brand products (55% of products
being own brand), helping to also illustrate the image of exclusivity and elitism. From the
positioning map you can see that Tesco, Sainsbury s and ASDA are all positioned very close to
each other indicating the enormous amount of competition through price and quality. All three
grocery retailers segment themselves towards new and growing families, as they are huge sector
of the market, with much money to be made from. As you can also see Marks and Spencer s is
positioned at the top end of the scale for both price and quality, showing that they are perceived as
a grocery retailer which provides a high standard of products at high prices, segmenting themselves
as an sophisticated grocery retailer.
Life stage segmentation also plays a vital role in defining and segmenting Waitrose market
because it looks at family characteristics and whether they match that of Waitrose. Whereas
Waitrose s competitors focus on new family, post and pre family groups Waitrose inclines towards
post family, older couple and single groups, as these groups are more able to afford their prices.
One could say that the typical Waitrose shopper is the typical Classic FM listener; affluent,
interested in culture, travel, fine foods and wine. The account card, Waitrose and John Lewis

Social Amibition is the Stepping Stone to Humilliation in...
In William Shakespeare s romantic comedy of Twelfth Night, Malvolio s, Sebastian s and Sir
Andrew s greed for power and status, mirror the theme that being socially ambitious makes
people an easy target for mockery and embarrassment. In the play, Malvolio desperately tries to
win Olivia s heart, falling under Maria s trap. Sebastian proves his shallow and ambiguous self
when he agrees to wed a complete stranger for wealth, and Sir Andrew vainly tries to prove his
worth and nobleness to his fellow upper classmen, turning himself into a laughing stock. These
three characters foolish actions create humor in the play as well as preach us that social ambition is
the stepping stone for humiliation. Malvolio, head steward of Olivia s household is an arrogant
and proud man, who evokes distaste but also pity from the audience. Maria and company craft a
masterful trap into which Malvolio walks right into; they trick him into believing that the lady
Olivia loves him and wishes him to prove his love for her through a series of actions. Not only
does he not doubt this for a second, but he eagerly agrees to fulfill all of the embarrassing things
he has been set up to do: I do not now fool/ myself, to let my imagination jade me; for every
reason/ excites to this, that my lady loves me [5.2.153 155]. Malvolio s declaration confirms that he
is completely blinded by the thought of him being a count and imagining himself bossing servants

Growing up fourth generation Southern Californian my nuclear family help shape my values and

school. So, my father didn t punish me that night. However, Saturday morning he woke me up and
made sure I attended the three hour basketball practice at school. I learned my lesson not to get
drunk. Also, my parents assigned chores around the house to teach me the value of good work

Importance Of MU Activities And Events
MU Activities and Events
1.The Monmouth University event I decided to attend was a mens basketball game. Specifically,
Monmouth University Hawks vs University of Kentucky Wildcats. The event was held at Madison
Square Garden, at noon, on Saturday December 9th, 2017. It was a competitive two hours worth of
entertainment, resulting in the final score of The Kentucky Wildcats 93 points and The Monmouth
Hawks with 76. A great effort was put forward by the Hawks, but the Kentucky wildcats ultimately
took the win. It was a great experience shared with friends and peers from Monmouth University,
and showcased off school spirit.
2.For this particular event, no appointment or RSVP was required, but the purchase of a ticket

The energy picked up as the game progressed and eventually the stands were on their feet. From this
experience, I learned to understand the culture of the student body better and to level my
expectation to the size of the school.
4.Personally, the event was a good use of time, since my plans were to stay in bed on this
particular Saturday. I am proud of myself for putting myself out there and attending this event. Was
I glad I attended? Yes and No. I am glad I attended because I got to experience something that most
students cannot, seeing their team play at Madison Square Garden. I am not glad that I attended
because the traveling costs were quite above my margins. The days worth of spending money
totaled to around forty dollars. Which for a college student such as myself is exorbitant. The train
ride itself, round trip, cost around $32.50. An after eating lunch in the city, my spending s were
exceeding my limit. I learned that it is okay to splurge once in a while on something special, and
not to feel guilty when it comes to those occasions in life.
5.Based on my experience, I would only recommend this activity to specific students. Unfortunately,
there will most likely not be another game of this stature since it was a special event, but I would
advise attending a regular season Monmouth University basketball game held at the school. The
reason why I find this event caters to a specific audience is because it is a sporting event.

Speaking Up for the Ones Who Cannot
Animal breeding is a commonly used process all over the world, used to bring new puppies into
the world for young children and families, or farm animals for more farming production.
However what most do not know is that those animals are not always from a nice pet store or a
facility that treats their animals well. Breeding animals like dogs or farming animals in places that
are illegal often times leads to forms of abuse for them. Puppy mills often times sell dogs that went
through painful treatment and are typically sick in some way. Health Beauty Close Up interviewed
some animal organizations who says a puppy mill is, a dog breeding operation, which offers dogs
for monetary compensation or remuneration, in which the physical, psychological and/or behavioral
needs of the dogs are not being fulfilled due to inadequate housing, shelter, staffing, nutrition,
socialization, sanitation, exercise, veterinary care, and/or inappropriate breeding ( Pet Industry and
Animal Welfare Organizations Team to Address Puppy Mill Abuse ). Some farming industries end
up treating their animals bad their entire lives or not even giving them the chance at life. Breeding
farm animals or dogs in mills should be banned because of terrible living conditions, breeding
being used for their profits, and giving animals illness or causing death.

Journey Of Paul
Paul s first missionary journey led to the creation of the First Church Conference where the First
Church Council and Paul came to agreeable terms on exactly what parts of the Mosaic Torah laws
Gentile Christians would have to obey. They determined that Gentile Christians did not have to
become circumcised, but they did have to follow Torah laws against sexual misdeeds along with
certain dietary rules. After a dispute with Barnabas, Paul recruited new companions, Silas and
Timothy, giving him a vision which Macedonian Greeks appeal to him for help. In Phillipi, Paul
created the first Christian church and was arrested along with Silas because of the accusations
made by an irate slaveholder that Paul was trying to convert Romans to Judaism. Paul was
eventually released because it was decided that there was no case against him and his... Show more

missionary journey, he revisited Asia Minor and Greece. His success in converting Ephesians
brings him into conflict with the worshippers of the goddess Artemis. Yet again Paul was found
innocent of any wrongdoing. On Paul s journey back to Jerusalem, he meets a prophet which
foretells his fatal binding in Jerusalem. Upon his return to Jerusalem, Paul bowed to the wishes of
James for him to participate in purification rites in the Temple to prove his faithfulness to Torah
regulations, but his presence in the Temple incited riots. The Roman soldiers that intervene save

Fate In Joseph Campbell s The Alchemist
Many people live their lives believing that their lives are driven by fate; that their hopes and
dreams ultimately have no impact on how their lives will turn out. This, however, does not hold
true when one considers the paths taken by those who follow their own dreams and desires.
When one examines the lives of people and characters who follow their dreams, one can realize
that life is not guided by fate, but by the desires of one s heart. In The Alchemist, Santiago s life
is guided by his dreams and desires, not his fate. In the beginning of the novel, Santiago was
studying to be a priest, but he forgoes his education in order to follow his dream of traveling the
world. Though many as a foolish decision would have seen this, as priests were well respected and
shepherds were not, Santiago does as he desires, not what he is told will be the most advantageous.
Throughout his travels, Santiago encounters many people who... Show more content on

Though he spends a relatively short amount of time discussing fate, the words spoken by Campbell
speak volumes. As he tells Bill Moyers, The influence of the dominant divinity in my mind will be
what determines my decision (Campbell 166). Though this statement does not explicitly mention
fate, its presence in this quote can be inferred. By stressing the importance of divine power s
influence over one s mind, Campbell in rejecting the notion of fate, for if fate were present the
dominant divinity would not be necessary. Additionally, by stressing the importance of following
your bliss throughout the text, Campbell stresses the importance of following one s dreams rather
than prescribing to the notion of fate. Throughout The Power of Myth, Campbell s disregard of fate
and attention to dreams shows one that they should follow the path of their heart rather than
believing their path has been chosen for

Media Policy Issue In Canada
One media policy issue in particular has been in the news quite a lot recently, and has caught my
attention. The bill in question has many Canadians worried about not only their safety and
privacy online and in public places, but also what is done with their personal information and
how it is being shared, without their consent. In researching (you guessed it) Bill C 51, I became
highly interested in finding out if, and how long service providers have been allowed to collect
and distribute people s personal information whether it be free, or for money. I then did some
research on the Privacy Act that took effect in 1983 and is still in place in Canadatoday. On the
official website for the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada it says... Show more content

If this bill is kept the same, I believe that we need to put forth policy changes with transparency
and give power to people to know when and where their personal information is being accessed
and what is being done with that information. Just like a warrant on searching someone s house,
similar to what we talked about in class, police, government officials and especially ISPs should
provide a reason for entrance into people s private lives. I hope for the direction of this Bill to
stay securely in the middle, rather than take a strong side, because as much as we need privacy
in our lives, we also need to keep the well being of Canadians in mind. In this situation I believe
that it is salient to maintain a healthy public sphere by keeping an open debate about this bill. We
need put forth new policies to stop companies and government officials from creating a monopoly

Archetype InThe LambBy William Blake
Blakes Archetypes William Blake is one of the most famous poets in the Romantics period. A
unique thing about Blake is his ability to not only write poems but to be able to combine that
with his artistic ability. Every poem that Blake writes is not printed, but is handwritten with a
piece of his artwork. Blake is also very well known for his two opposite Archetypes. An Archetype
is when something symbolizes something else. In addition to the symbols an archetype can also
have background or a story behind it. William Blakewrote four poems, The Lamb, The Chimney
Sweeper, The Tyger, and Infant Sorrow where in each of these we can infer that about the two
archetypes, songs of innocence and songs of experience. The Lamb by William Blake belongs
in the song innocence category. When a person thinks of a lamb they think of a sweet animal
who could do no harm, and this is exactly what songs of innocence means. In some ways the
lamb is pure and childish. Lambs do not have anger and do not really care how things workout.
In the poem, The Lamb by William Blake he explains, Gave thee clothing of delight, Softest
clothing wooly delight (lines 5 6). Blake recognizes all the good qualities that lamb s posses and
is very positive about the lamb although it may not be the smartest animal. In God s eye his son
is lamb. To continue with the Archetype of innocence, The Chimney Sweeper is another
example of a symbol. Innocence means not having experience, helplessness, and without evil. In
the poem, The Chimney Sweeper Blake shows this character trait. Throughout this poem Blake
tells the story of a young orphan boy whose mother died when he was very small and his father
sold him to an orphanage. These events led to a very dangerous and traumatizing childhood.
When a child lives in an orphanage they are used a laborer. A chimney sweeper would climb up
into wealthier people s chimneys and clean them. In the story, The Chimney Sweeper, William
Blake explains, Could scarcely cry weep weep weep weep. So your chimneys I sweep in soot I
sleep (lines 3 4). This is a very powerful line in how the child could never wash their body. He
never knew in his entire life what it was like to have a clean body, loving parents, or an

  • 2. Contemporary Sociological Theory Reviewed Essay 1. Our understanding of contemporary capitalist culture and globalization has been greatly influenced by neo Marxism. There have been many significant events all over the world such as the Great Depression, The Second World War which have contributed to our understanding of contemporary capitalist culture. There has been a false consciousness associated with this time and date since capitalism continues to deliver the goods (Adams Sydie, 2002: 90). The beginning of the end of capitalist conflict and the beginning of the beginning of socialism came with the U.S. economic and military dominance after 1945 and also, on the other side of the coin, the Stalinist model of socialist development failed to live up to it s own Marxist... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They noted that the class structures of these societies were products of neo imperialism. The domination is achieved through investment, the control of technological expertise, money through the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. The term Monopoly Capitalism covers all of those aspects. Wallerstein proposed an analytic framework. He felt he was conducting world system analysis and not writing world system theory. He believed there were three factors which were essential when establishing a world economy. First, he saw an expansion of the geographical size of the world in question. Second, the development of variegated methods of labor control for different products and different zones of the world economy, and Third, the creation of relatively strong state machineries in what would become the core states of this capitalist world economy (121). Wallerstein identifies the core, periphery and the semi periphery. The core is the economic interest which control productive activities. The periphery is the opposite of the core. The core controls all of the periphery s resources. The semi periphery is the mid point between the core and the periphery. It serves as a gray zone with independent capital yet is dependent on the core for much of it s infrastructure. Wallerstein identifies three means for moving from periphery to a semi periphery. First he talks about seizing the chance. This is when an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Effects Of Emerging Economies On North America s Economy... Introduction: This report is intended to brief the reader on the effects of emerging economies on North America s economy and the global market on a whole. This report provides an overview of the emerging economies of India China; their education, ideological beliefs economic performance and how North America s way of business is affected. This report was compiled based on articles from reputable sources, such as Bloomberg and articles published within the industry. This report was authorized by Mr. Laviolette, an Accounting teacher at Jean Vanier Catholic High School. Overview of Global Economy: Today s Global economy is governed by a delicate balance of variables. The addition of a new economy to the global market affects all of the pre existing variables, bringing with it a host challenges and opportunities. Much like an initial public offering, countries may buy in or develop economic agreements with the emerging market economy (EME). This often results in the country buying in to the emerging economy, getting services or products at a discounted rate, while the emerging economy gets business like China and the United States. These types of agreement may result in the poorer country sacrificing its citizens well being, to ramp up for economic growth, like China. In the end most countries economies are interconnected for example with the United States Canada relationship. If one country s economy were to collapse there would be strongly adverse effects on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Effect Of Residual Stress On The Performance And... ABSTRACT Residual stresses [1, 2] are of great importance in any manufacturing industry as it plays a major role in determining the structural integrity of the component being engineered. Residual stresses highly influence the strength, stability, resistance, fatigue life and performance of the component manufactured. These properties being affected leads to failure and repair of the component or the entire structure. Hence it is essential to measure the residual stresses present in a component and to relax these stresses to improve the performance and reliability of the component. A residual stress analysis in design phase is compulsory in order to estimate the reliability of the component [1]. Many residual stress measurement techniques have been developed for a reliable assessment of the residual stresses. The methods are classified into destructive and non destructive based on the practical application of the method employed on the component under study. Non destructive techniques are preferred over destructive as they do not damage the material or specimen under study [2]. In recent years many techniques have emerged to facilitate the destructive measurement techniques. The aim of this report is to review the destructive methods used for residual stress measurement and the recent developments of measurement techniques favoring destructive methods. iii DEDICATION I dedicate this thesis to my beloved wife, Nithya and my daughter, Lakshana for their love and encouragement ... • 6. Ethnic Identity Development Ethnic Identity Development Ethnic identity development of ethnic minorities in the United States has attracted an increasing attention in the adolescent development and college transition literature. A review of literature related to ethnic identity development highlights two major lines of research: 1) identity processes from a developmental perspective and 2) the content and meaning of ethnic identity (Phinney, 1989; Seller et al., 1997; Yip, 2014). Some scholars have specifically examined the developmental progression that individuals go through as they come to understand their ethnic identity and make a commitment (Phinney, 1993). Other scholars have focused on exploring the content, significance, and meaning of ethnic identity within... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hoping to address the limitations of the MEIM, Umana Taylor, Yazedjian Bamaca Gomez (2004) created the Ethnic Identity Scale (EIS), which is primarily based on Erikson s and Tajfel s theories. The EIS consists of 46 assessing three distinct components of ethnic identity: exploration, resolution, and affirmation. The exploration subscale assesses the extent to which individuals have explored their ethnic identity; resolution subscale assesses the extent to which individuals have resolved issues related to their ethnic identity, and affirmation refers to the feelings (positive or negative) individuals associated with their ethnic identity. Using the three subscales while being consistent with Marcia s (1980) identity statuses, Umana Taylor et al. (2004) proposed a new categorization scheme which classifies individuals into 8 ethnic identity statuses: diffuse positive, diffuse negative, foreclosed positive, foreclosed negative, moratorium positive, moratorium negative, achieved positive, and achieved negative. For example, diffuse positive characterizes individuals who scored low on both exploration and resolution subscales, but with high affirmation. Unlike the MEIM, the EIS allows researchers to take a dimensional approach to understanding ethnic identity. The score of the subscales are continuous variables, so researchers can examine the relationship among the three with other variables of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Beginning Of The Revolutionary War From the basis of the colonies beginning with the founding of Jamestown until the beginning of the Revolutionary War, different areas of the eastern coast had different traditional values. Once established, the thirteen British colonies could be separated into three physical areas: New England, Middle, and Southern. Each of these had specific economic, social, and political growths that were distinctive to the territories. European nations came to the Americas to boost their wealth and expand their influence over world affairs. The first enduring British colony was established in Jamestown in the Chesapeake Bay region by the Virginia Company. To honor the memory of Elizabeth I, the never married Virgin Queen the company s directors named the region Virginia. (pg.41) The Jamestown colonist had a tough time of it. They were so occupied looking for gold and other exportable assets that they could barely feed themselves. It wasn t until 1616, that Virginia settlers learned how to farm tobacco. It became Virginia s main source of revenue and helped the colony survive. The first African slaves appeared in Virginia in 1619. Many of the people who put down roots in the New World came to escape religious discrimination. The Pilgrims, founders of the Plymouth, Massachusetts, turn up in 1620. In both Virginia and Massachusetts, the settler flourished with some help from the Native Americans. The stream of migrants created an all out conflict with the neighboring Indians. The ... Symptoms And Treatment Of Cancer Patients 1.Introduction: The numbers of people who are dying due to crucial diseases such as cancer have increased, according to world health organization (WHO) cited in Jane et al (2008), in 2005, 7.6 million people died from cancer, a figure expected to increase to 9 million people by 2015 , and increasing further to 11.4 million dying in 2030. Therefore, scientists have attempted to find appropriate solution for those problems. Since the nineteenth century, solutions have been introduced by scientists, that use radiation for the diagnosis of diseases instead of surgery (Pope, 1999), which has led to great advances in medicine because diagnostic technology such as CT and X rays scanning, nuclear medicine (PET) and mammography, ... • 12. Symphony Orchestra Reflection Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Texas State Symphony Orchestra Recital at Evans Auditorium. The performance was made up of two pieces: Overture to Nabucco composed by Giuseppe Verdi and Symphony No. 5 E minor op. 64 composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky with its 4 movements. The theme of the overall performance was Fifth and Fate , depicting the ideas of life and destiny. Despite its flaws, the concert very well exemplified this theme and overall put on a delightful and memorable performance. Now, while the performance in its entirety was something spectacular, like every piece of art, it had its flaws. One thing I noticed throughout the recital was the lack of balance. At some points, the string section overpowered the horns almost entirely to where it was nearly impossible to hear them. Granted, the string section was almost three times the size of the brass, but that is no excuse. A good director would notice this imbalance and make an attempt to conduct the sections to fix this unequal sound. Simply stating, the strings needed to be quieter and the horns could ve made an attempt to be louder. A more obvious fault to the untrained ear was the timing of the orchestra. On occasion, after rests, when an entire section was cued to come in, they did not come in in unison. There would be a lone bassoon or viola that would come sometimes as soon as a beat before the rest of the ensemble. This hindered the sense of unity and harmony the orchestra attempted ... Everybody has a personal culture, often learned from other groups, which then have their own distinct characteristics. Joseph Campbell was a celebrated American scholar who studied mythology, having popularized the idea of the hero s journey. The Power of Myth is a book based on the six episode documentary Joseph Campbelland the Power of Myth, in which Campbell and interviewer Bill Moyers examine the human world. Moreover, Campbell dedicated his life to studying myth and religion, something that I probably wouldn t choose to do with my time. Another instance where Campbell shared his dissimilar observations of myths is his assertion that [i]f you were not alert to the parallel themes, you perhaps would think they were quite different stories, but they re not. (Campbell 14). Campbell has studied so many myths that he was able to find the universal lessons that humans have learned. Another interpretation is that Campbell has made the generalization that all myths are essentially the same. I believe that while there may be overarching themes found throughout myths, there are still key differences that make each culture s mythology unique. Trying to group everything into a precise category or combining all myths into a single monomyth makes any other possibilities obsolete. For example, both my favorite TV show and book series retell well known fairy tales. Finding new meanings in a story that is otherwise clichГ© can be eye opening. I think myths and fairy tales alike reflect the variances between cultures and times, which fluctuate, but Campbell concluded that all myths tell the same story. This is yet another disparity between Campbell s views on myth and my own. Campbell s personal values didn t seem to emphasize independence and diversity as much as mine. As a proud citizen of this great nation I, unfortunately, have to say yes. Our once outstanding country has been falling behind in a number of areas including technology, education, economics, and yes, even in family care! America is now one of only three industrialized countries that hasn t set up a nationwide policy for paid parental leave. With this knowledge I desired to know more, particularly if we as a nation are not doing much to rectify the situation. Then, to learn if any states were doing something about this issue which effects so many people in the workforce. I wanted to see exactly how far behind, compared to the rest world, we are in the issue of paid parental leave. The Pew Research Center conducted a study of government supported leave in 38 OECD countries, and found that the US had the lowest figures with zero weeks of paid leave. Though we did fare better when it came to the number of weeks provided for protected leave with 12 weeks. We were still far worse than most other OECD countries (see Figure 1 at right). Knowing that we were rated worse I wanted to know what people are saying that we can and should be doing to change this situation? Locke was an English philosopher known for developing liberalism. He wrote two treatises altogether to give his overall argument about how society should be run. The first treatise criticized Robert Filmer s Patriarcha, which talked about the king s rule over England. The second treatise reviewed Locke s view on the rights of the people. He often uses the law of Nature as a reference, which refers to the moral principles for people in society. There are also sections in the book that influenced James Madison in the creation of the Bill of Rights. There would also need to be punishment for a crime to prevent people from committing other ones. That being said, a man has the right to do what is best for himself and his community, as long as it follows the laws. Another one of Locke s views stresses the importance of having a legislative branch. A legislative power should be put in place to govern laws. Social equity is the fourth pillar of public administration by the NAPA (Norman Major, 2011). According to the panel their definition of social equity is fair, just and equitable management of all institutions serving the public directly or by contract (Johnson, 2012). Sacco may be a journalist, but there s much more to him than his notepad and pen; he s a traveler, an artist, and someone who thinks making a difference in the world is important by putting people s stories out there. According to his Wikipedia page, Sacco had a hard time finding a job with hard hitting, attention grabbing pieces that would affect his audience. Illustrating the story of the citizens of Gaza lets those of us who cannot experience what they are going through empathize them, and at the same time we are being educated on wars like these that we do not experience in everyday life. Instead of leaving us to do this, he gives you the pictures and the story line at once, satisfying your mind s needs, letting you focus on the story line. He used visuals like the careless army general nonchalantly smoking a cigarette, explaining how they don t just randomly destroy homes (152), while Sacco was able to show how much destruction they actually did do. I found it amazing that they were able to tell a complete story on only visual elements. Nosferatu had many similarities to A trip to the Moon by George Melies. Comparatively it had more storytelling elements character development purely due to film length. I feel it would be very challenging to produce such a complex story under the constraints of such a short film. I believe my experience to be very typical of someone who has never watched a full length silent film, I was gripped with curiosity on how this film would tell the great story of Dracula without the stereotypical screams and jump scares that horror movies today bring to the screen. I feel like the film did a fantastic job of telling the story with the limitations of being able to use sound. A solution to reduce congestion is to use many small wireless receivers within the range of a large tower to spread out the devices upon smaller more confined networks when within cities and high density areas. And simply using long range low capacity towers when in the country side and places where fewer devices will be on a network at any given time, this is a combination of macro cells and micro cells to ensure network stability. • 52. Fate In Joseph Campbell s The Alchemist Many people live their lives believing that their lives are driven by fate; that their hopes and dreams ultimately have no impact on how their lives will turn out. This, however, does not hold true when one considers the paths taken by those who follow their own dreams and desires. When one examines the lives of people and characters who follow their dreams, one can realize that life is not guided by fate, but by the desires of one s heart. In The Alchemist, Santiago s life is guided by his dreams and desires, not his fate. In the beginning of the novel, Santiago was studying to be a priest, but he forgoes his education in order to follow his dream of traveling the world. Though many as a foolish decision would have seen this, as priests were well respected and shepherds were not, Santiago does as he desires, not what he is told will be the most advantageous. Throughout his travels, Santiago encounters many people who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though he spends a relatively short amount of time discussing fate, the words spoken by Campbell speak volumes. As he tells Bill Moyers, The influence of the dominant divinity in my mind will be what determines my decision (Campbell 166). Though this statement does not explicitly mention fate, its presence in this quote can be inferred. By stressing the importance of divine power s influence over one s mind, Campbell in rejecting the notion of fate, for if fate were present the dominant divinity would not be necessary. Additionally, by stressing the importance of following your bliss throughout the text, Campbell stresses the importance of following one s dreams rather than prescribing to the notion of fate. Throughout The Power of Myth, Campbell s disregard of fate and attention to dreams shows one that they should follow the path of their heart rather than believing their path has been chosen for ... • 53. Media Policy Issue In Canada One media policy issue in particular has been in the news quite a lot recently, and has caught my attention. The bill in question has many Canadians worried about not only their safety and privacy online and in public places, but also what is done with their personal information and how it is being shared, without their consent. In researching (you guessed it) Bill C 51, I became highly interested in finding out if, and how long service providers have been allowed to collect and distribute people s personal information whether it be free, or for money. I then did some research on the Privacy Act that took effect in 1983 and is still in place in Canadatoday. On the official website for the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada it says... If this bill is kept the same, I believe that we need to put forth policy changes with transparency and give power to people to know when and where their personal information is being accessed and what is being done with that information. Just like a warrant on searching someone s house, similar to what we talked about in class, police, government officials and especially ISPs should provide a reason for entrance into people s private lives. I hope for the direction of this Bill to stay securely in the middle, rather than take a strong side, because as much as we need privacy in our lives, we also need to keep the well being of Canadians in mind. In this situation I believe that it is salient to maintain a healthy public sphere by keeping an open debate about this bill. We need put forth new policies to stop companies and government officials from creating a monopoly when it comes to access to personal information and privacy for all ... • 54. Archetype InThe LambBy William Blake Blakes Archetypes William Blake is one of the most famous poets in the Romantics period. A unique thing about Blake is his ability to not only write poems but to be able to combine that with his artistic ability. Every poem that Blake writes is not printed, but is handwritten with a piece of his artwork. Blake is also very well known for his two opposite Archetypes. An Archetype is when something symbolizes something else. In addition to the symbols an archetype can also have background or a story behind it. William Blakewrote four poems, The Lamb, The Chimney Sweeper, The Tyger, and Infant Sorrow where in each of these we can infer that about the two archetypes, songs of innocence and songs of experience. The Lamb by William Blake belongs in the song innocence category. When a person thinks of a lamb they think of a sweet animal who could do no harm, and this is exactly what songs of innocence means. In some ways the lamb is pure and childish. Lambs do not have anger and do not really care how things workout. In the poem, The Lamb by William Blake he explains, Gave thee clothing of delight, Softest clothing wooly delight (lines 5 6). Blake recognizes all the good qualities that lamb s posses and is very positive about the lamb although it may not be the smartest animal. In God s eye his son is lamb. To continue with the Archetype of innocence, The Chimney Sweeper is another example of a symbol. Innocence means not having experience, helplessness, and without evil. In the poem, The Chimney Sweeper Blake shows this character trait. Throughout this poem Blake tells the story of a young orphan boy whose mother died when he was very small and his father sold him to an orphanage. These events led to a very dangerous and traumatizing childhood. When a child lives in an orphanage they are used a laborer. A chimney sweeper would climb up into wealthier people s chimneys and clean them. In the story, The Chimney Sweeper, William Blake explains, Could scarcely cry weep weep weep weep. So your chimneys I sweep in soot I sleep (lines 3 4). This is a very powerful line in how the child could never wash their body. He never knew in his entire life what it was like to have a clean body, loving parents, or an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Nt1310 Unit 5 Assignment To fulfill the agreed upon task of project administration and management, I write requests for information, review samples, and to distribute documents to the specialty contractors. To create requests for information, we use a system called TeamBuild. Once the document is published, all designers affected by the question are notified, and have a week to respond. TeamBuild streamlines communicationand allows for quicker responses. When reviewing samples, I enjoy handling the different materials, and comparing them to the construction documents. Since our architect is in Los Angeles, it takes finite coordination to make all opinions are incorporated. Lastly, whenever a new set of documents is released, it is my job to make sure the affected subcontractors are able to have access the updated information. By emailing out the new documents, and giving the company a phone call... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Recently, I was tasked with completing a takeoff of the wall tile to be placed in our building. The owner had requested full height tile in the restrooms, but the quote that came in seemed high. By completing the takeoff, I was able to identify the problems in the estimate. I have found the project estimator to be a great resource. If I have any questions pertaining the subcontracts, my first contact is always our estimator. A simple question asked over the phone can often transform into a conversation where I am able to learn something new about estimating. I was recently offered to have my internship extended in order to spend a few weeks in the estimating department. Going into my internship I wanted nothing to do with estimating, but now that I see how the different departments work together to create a building, the importance of estimators stands out to me. I am excited to experience two concentrations of construction in order to see which suites my personality the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
