A Specific Moment In My Life That Has Drastically Impacted...
If I had to pin point a specific moment in my life that has drastically impacted my academic
career it would be the summer class I took last year at my community college. We were all in
class talking about career planning and what majors we were going to choose once we finished
the course and my professor brought up a very good point. She was asking us all what we
wanted to do and most of us didn t have a solid answer so she looked around the room and asked,
when you guys were kids what did you want to be when you grew up? The first thing I thought of
was that I wanted to be a singer. That however would never work out because I cannot sing to save
my life. Other students were saying things like doctors, lawyers, and other big jobs like that.

Themes In The Chrysalids
It is a clear indication that the writer John Wyndham wrote the novel The Chrysalids as a
warning in our society today. When you compare the novel to our society, these are similar
issues that people today must deal with. In the novel The Chrysalids the author shows several
issues within the Waknuk community which includes acts of ignorance, judgment, and
intolerance. The people of Waknuk also use religion as an evil way of controlling the
community which ultimately causes sin and contradicts what they believe in. These issues the
Waknuk people face can be compared to what people face today. The first indication that is
shown in the novel in comparison with today s society is the act of ignorance. The act of
ignorance is defined as the lack of knowledge or information. An example of ignorance in the
novel is that the people of do not know anything about the other communities within the land and
assumes that they are not living by God s image of life. Because of this, people who were not
apart of the Waknuk community were assumed to not be the true image of God. Although the
Fringes were people with deviations, they were still respectable people and did not live to harm
others like what the Waknuk people were doing. In our society today, ignorance lives everywhere
whether it is in a form of race, culture, or even abnormalities such as the abnormalities seen in the
novel. A good comparison with the people of Waknuk and today s society is the act of

Comparing The Protestant Ethic And The Spirit Of...
Max Weber s study was influential in the emergence of the spirit of modern capitalism and is
applicable to leaders past and present. It is true Weber argues that Puritan ethics and ideas
influenced the development of capitalism. The United States is seen as having a democratic
capitalist political economic system due to its economic incentives through free markets, fiscal
responsibility, and its liberal moral cultural system that encourages pluralism. In regard to the
analysis of power in society, Weber again introduces a pluralistic notion (introduction to sociology,
2010).
Applicable Theory of Max Weber on Political Leaders

Weber presented the idea of investing the money in an effort to promote the growth of capitalism.
As a result; the Protestant ethic guided its followers to work, develop business, engage in
commerce and ultimately accumulate wealth for investment. The Protestant ethic was therefore the
driving force behind the mass action that led to the development of capitalism (the protestant ethic
and the spirit of capitalism, 2016).
In his book, The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, Weber explains how a strong
Protestant work ethic and belief in living frugally helped foster the development of the capitalist
economic system in the Western world. Although Protestantism dissolved socially, the system of
capitalism was engraved to stay. This bureaucratic social structure, and the values, beliefs, and
world views that supported and sustained it, became central to shaping social life. It was this very
phenomenon that Weber conceived of as an iron cage (iron cage,

The Movie Out There and Advertising of Canadian Beer
In today s market of technology and visual stimulation it becomes more and more important for
advertising campaigns to stand out and be innovative, and it is this idea that drove one Canadian
beer company to do something that had never been done before. In light of waning interest,
Kokanee, owned by the Labatt Brewing Company, enlisted the help of Toronto based Grip
advertisingagency to (with its entire yearly marketing budget) create something really big for there
next campaign. Grip s innovative response to this challenge was to do something completely new
and create an ad in the form of a full length feature film, which they would call: The Movie Out
Here
The Movie Out There is a ninety minute Canadian indie film created as an entertaining alternative
to traditional advertising. The film follows three friends on their quest to save a business in the
small skiing town of Fernie, British Columbia by hosting a huge party. Along their journey they
encounter characters and sub plots that stem from Kokanee s long running advertising narrative of
the Kokanee Ranger. This narrative chronicles the attempts of the Ranger and the Kokanee Girls
to safe guard the Kokanee beer from the Sasquatch who continuously tries to steal it. These brand
mascots are ever present in the film, although slightly revamped. The Ranger becomes a duo of
rangers consisting of two young men: Glacier and Fresh who became the new mascots for
Kokanee after the original ranger was killed off. Their

The Old And New Testament
The Bible is made up of two main books, the Old and New Testament, which both consist of
stories and the experiences of the apostles and the disciples. The Bible talks about every topic
imaginable to man; but the topic of woman is still today, a very controversial one. Depending on
whom you talk to, opinions will vary dramatically. Are women seen as equal to man? Are women
independent or dependent , and Are women only seen for their beauty and duties in the household?
. Throughout the Bible, women are spoken about quite a bit. In Genesis, man and womanare
created, in Proverbs, the perfect wife is described, and in Corinthians, marriage roles are talked
about. The Bible can be interpreted in many ways depending on someone s opinion.... Show more

Adam and Eve, probably, both were gardeners/farmers of the Garden of Eden. They didn t have
children yet and there was no other human being or other job on the earth. One did not do a
more masculine or feminine job than the other, they were equal. Another item of note; before
Adam and Eve ate the fruit of knowledge, they both had no idea that they were naked. They did
not know there was a right and wrong, they couldn t get embarrassed, or jealous, or angry. They
were innocent. Adam wasn t the only one innocent or naked, Eve was as well. God didn t give
more knowledge to Adam than Eve, they were given equal amount of knowledge and
responsibility. That was the only time that human beings were perfectly equal. The only reason for
that, of course, was because it was before they ate from the tree of knowledge. After that, mankind
was born into the knowledge of embarrassment, anger, jealousy, pride, and inequality. The definition
of equality is, the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities. When looking
at the book of Genesis, Adam and Eve were equal in status, rights, and opportunities. Soon after
Eve was created, Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge and convinced Adam to as well. This was
the fall into sin. When God found out about this he punished them both. To Eve, he said Your desire
shall be for your husband. And he

The modeling technique that I was assigned Extended Backus Naur Form (EBNF). In software
engineering, expanded Backus Naur frame (EBNF) is a group of metasyntax documentations, any
of which can be utilized to express a setting free sentence structure. EBNF is utilized to make a
formal depiction of a formal language which can be a PC programming language. They are
augmentations of the fundamental Backus Naur frame (BNF) metasyntax documentation. EBNF is
a code that communicates the sentence structure of a formal language. An EBNF comprises of
terminal images and non terminal creation rules which are the limitations administering how
terminal images can be joined into a legitimate arrangement. Cases of terminal images incorporate
alphanumeric characters, accentuation marks, and whitespace characters. BNF is the first, most
straightforward, for the most part utilized as a part of scholarly papers of hypothetical setting, for

Extended BNF. There s not one single EBNF, but rather numerous.

In order to answer the question, it is necessary to define identity and specifically the way social
scientist define identity. An individual has multiple identities, both personally and socially. These
connect them to other people relational identity; to groups, neighbourhoods, and communities
social identity; and to immediate situation or surroundings situational identity. Very few theories or
concepts support the idea of an essential personal identity . A concept that is more favourable is
that who I am is learnt and that it does change often over our life span. A contrary explanation is
that personal identity is not completely separate from social identity. Including group/collective

It is the effectiveness, of these skills that helps create and maintain social order. These unspoken
rules of social etiquette lead to society having preconceived ideas of what is the norm . This is
almost automatic, yet if normal behaviour is breached without repair, it is immediately noticed.
In addition, anything outside of these values of normality is viewed negatively or with
suspicion, this in turn can lead to exclusion of those outside of these so called norms . Identities
of groups refers to differences as well as similarities; writer, Jonathan Raban visited New York
during the 1980s. New York was experiencing record numbers of homeless living on the city s
streets. Raban noted how negatively other people described them: Long term mental patients
discharged from hospitals...crack addicts, thieves, alcoholics (Raban, cited in Taylor, 2009, P.
176). Over time, these separate identities blend and become one larger identity: the Street People,
Raban suggested that it be given capitals as is used similarly to that of national or tribal identity.
Making it a relational identity, Raban conducted participant observation, he performed both
identies, that of the Street People and that of those walking by. He observed how when performing
the passer by identity it is vital to keep moving as once stationary, even though still the same
person; to those who are moving, he is now part of the Street People collective and shares their

Essay about Racism and Discrimination in Healthcare
Healthcare systems are microcosms of the larger society in which they exist. Where there is
structural violence or cultural violence in the larger society, so will there be evidence of
systematic inequities in the institutions of these societies. The healthcare system in Australia is one
example from a plethora of similarly situated healthcare systems in which the color of a patient s
skin or the race of his parents may determine the quality of medical received. Life expectancy and
infant mortality rates are vastly different for non Aboriginal, Aboriginal, and Torres Strait Islanders
residing in Australia. The life expectancy of Aboriginal men is 21 years shorter than for non

The organizational structures of political and economic systems cause and sustain the sort of
hierarchical relations that enable dramatic differences between and across sectors of societies.
Within these hierarchies, the people at the top have privilege, wealth, and power, while those at the
bottom of the hierarchy are dominated, oppressed, and exploited (Christie, 1997). People are
harmed and killed as a result of structural violence but, unlike direct violence, it occurs more
slowly. The harm or death of oppressed people may come about because some people are
deprived of food, shelter, healthcare, and other resources (Christie, 1997). Because structural
violence is embedded in a society s way of being, over the long term, groups of people may not be
able to meet their basic needs to the degree that normal development and growth is impacted.
In the 1960s, Johan Galtung posited the construct of violence as a phenomenon generated by the
existence of social barriers that deny needs satisfaction in certain sectors of society. Galtung s
conceptual framework illustrates the relationship between the structure of society and the
inequalities experienced by its citizens. Gilman s seminal definition of structural violence reads,
physical and psychological harm that results from exploitive and unjust social, political, and
economic systems (1983, p. 8).

In our society today, we see abuse in television shows, in movies, in music, and even in real life.
In certain aspects, many people see that violence is a normal thing because it is getting so much

violence is a real thing and that it is happening to your friends, to your family, and maybe even to
yourself! These groups are very important to have in our society; we need to teach young adults at
a young age that being abusive toward both males and females is wrong to do.

Marketing
Stewart Box company differentiated itself from competition by focusing on custom made orders
and targeting a small niche market only. By doing this they are able to actively cater to its
customer s individual wishes, and strictly adhere to promised delivery dates.
What are the weak points of Stewart Box company s current sytem?
Marketing Reach
Stewart Box Company has a very limited customer base. They only market their products within a
radius of about 500 miles from its factory, which was located in a fairly small town. A limited
customer base results to low volume of orders which will lead to the carton factory operating
below its capacity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it is very important for Stewart Box Company to be have slightly lower prices than its
competitors to be competitive in a very cutthroat industry.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Expand Market Reach
To address the underutilization of the carton factory, Stewart Box company needs to increase the
volume of their orders. They can do this by going beyond the their existing 500 mile marketing
radius. They can also further increase their volume by catering to not only custom made orders but
also catering to standard packaging sizes. By increasing sales, the capacity of the carton factory is
fully utilized, cost efficiency is improved, thereby improving the bottom line figures of the company.
Improve efficiency of factories
Stewart Box Company needs to address the Carton Factory operating under capacity. The
underutilization of this plant may cause inefficiencies in the company s operations thereby
increasing its standard costs. This inefficiency in operations is evident in the unfavorable variances
in the company s Income Statement and Spending Report.
Reevaluate Costing Method
The company should reevaluate their costing process. Costing based on estimates of annual
standard costs may be result to inaccurate cost estimates as cost of raw materials and manufacturing
equipment fluctuate within a year. The company needs to be more dynamic in their costing

Haydn Farewell Symphony Essay
Since the early 19th century, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven have been venerated as the first of the
three Viennese classics. Franz Joseph Haydn (1732 1809) was an Austrian composer who began
his career in the traditional patronage system of the late Austrian Baroque and ended as a free artist
within the burgeoning Romanticism of the early 19th century. He was one of the most celebrated
composers of his time and a culture hero throughout Europe. He is familiarly known as the father of
the symphony. Beethoven (1770 1827) was a German composer and a pupil of Haydn s. His early
achievements show him extending the Viennese classical tradition inherited from Haydn and

As the father of the four movement form of the classical period, is was no surprise that his Farewell
Symphony included the Allegro assai, Adagio, menuet and trio, and the finale Presto movements.
The symphony has an unusual and complex tonal scheme, involving three different structural
tonics, F sharp minor, A major, and F sharp major; the double finale incorporates all three. The F
sharp minor projects something inherently unstable which demands, and receives resolution by the
tonic major, which is gradual, complex and a systematic change from instability to stability. This
process involves all aspects of the music including tonality, rhythm, form, instrumentation, dynamics
and psychological content. Beethoven also uses a four movement form but includes Allegro,
Scherzo, Adagio and Presto Allegro. The formal structure of the movements, while generally
adhering to the Classical models, charted new territory. The first movement, although in Classical
sonata form, confounds listeners first by rising to a fortissimo climax in the harmonically unstable
exposition section and then by delaying a return to the home key. The scherzo is placed as the
second movement, rather than the customary third, and the third movement is a mostly restful,
almost prayerful adagio. The last movement builds from a gentle beginning into a brazen finale,
while recalling some of the themes from earlier movements and once the Ode

He does this by going forwards in time, to explain how several of the characters had died. It s the
beginning of act one, and the stage manager is introducing Grover s Corners and the characters.
He briefly talks about how several characters die later in time. Doc Gibbs died in 1930. The new
hospital s named after him. Mrs. Gibbs died first long time ago, in fact. She went out to visit her
daughter, Rebecca, who married an insurance man in Canton, Ohio, and died there pneumonia
but her body was brought back here. She s up in the cemetery there now in Hersey fore she
married Doc Gibbs in the congregational church over there. (Wilder, act 1, 7) The stage
manager does this to emphasize the fact that life is very short, and time can pass by in a blink of
an eye. In addition to that, he also wants to show that you should live out your life, so you won t
regret anything when you re dead. For instance, in one part of act 1, Mrs Gibbs was talking to
Mrs. Webb about selling a piece of furniture for $355, and using the money to go away on a trip.
Later in act 3, she had died already, and never ended up going on that trip. She even forgets about
it at first, when Emily brings up the $355 that she left behind for her and George. In summary,

In my personal opinion, a worldview consists of the sum total of an individual s perspectives on
the relationships between the sphere of their own personal experiences and the sphere of the

The Terrible Trade Of The Slave Trade

Research Essay
19 October 2015
The Terrible Trade
Screams for relief, cries for comfort, and moans for death all revolved around the slave trade. The
slave trade is an event that not only impacted Africa, but the whole world. This essay will explain
how cultures were ruined and families were torn apart. The slave trade has influenced history
worldwide because it has impacted countries economically, socially, and politically.
The Middle Passage received its name because it is in the middle of the Triangular Trade. Legs of
the triangular trade stretch from Europe to Africa, Africa to the Western Hemisphere, then back to
Europe again. This was a great route for Europeans to get ships around the world quickly and
efficiently. This is how the slave trade began (Meltzer 9). Most everyone in the world today has a
descendent from slavery. Enslavement is a human being that is possessed by someone else, who
does labor for free unwillingly. An owner could range from a King, Queen, Noble, Tribe,
Government, Clergy, or Business owner. Slaves were considered similar to horses in a way
because they could be bought, sold, hired out, exchanged, given as a gift, or inherited (Meltzer 9 1).
The slave trade was more than five hundred miles long from Africa to the Americas. At least
30,000 55,000 ships went through the middle passage in the time of 1508 1888. In addition, only
9,778,500 out of the 11,698,000 slaves made it to the Americas. Slavery has been dated back

led in to Room 101, from Doublethinkers to sexual sinners. This relates to another idea of
religions: fun and love should be directed to the ultimate leader, and love for anything else would
be considered a sin, just like the society presented in the book. With Room 101 being hell, O
Brien being the torturer or the devil, and political prisoners being the sinners, Orwell presents a
familiar society that closely resembles most religions. Even though Christianity seems to be the
framework of Nineteen Eighty Four as it was written in a setting where Christianity was the most
common religion, most other religions carry similar ideas of punishment in the afterlife. For
example, Jahannam is the equivalent of hell in Islam, and Naraka is the equivalent of hell in
Hindu, with Yama, the god of death in charge. However, there is a slight difference between
traditional religions hells and Room 101 from Nineteen Eighty Four. In

Self-Awareness In Locke s On Identity And Diversity
Self awareness is the capacity for introspection and the ability to recognize oneself as an individual
separate from the environment and other individuals.
In philosophy
An early philosophical discussion of self awareness is that of John Locke. Locke was apparently
influenced by RenГ© Descartes statement normally translated I think, therefore I am . In chapter
XXVII On Identity and Diversity of Locke s An Essay Concerning Human Understanding he
conceptualized consciousness as the repeated self identification of oneself, through which moral
responsibility could be attributed to the subject and therefore punishment and guiltiness justified, as
critics such as Nietzsche would point out, affirming ...the psychology of conscience ... Show more

The Red Spot Technique created and experimented by Gordon Gallup studies self awareness in
animals . In this technique, a red odorless spot is placed on an anesthetized primate s forehead.
The spot is placed on the forehead so that it can only be seen through a mirror. Once the individual
awakens, independent movements toward the spot after seeing their reflection in a mirror are
observed. During the Red Spot Technique, after looking in the mirror, chimpanzees used their
fingers to touch the red dot that was on their forehead and even after touching the red dot they
would smell their fingertips. Animals that can recognize themselves in mirrors can conceive of
themselves, says Gallup. This would mean that the chimpanzees would possess self awareness.
Note that the chimpanzees have had experience with a mirror before the Red Spot Technique was
performed. Having experience with a mirror before the technique was performed reflects the past,
independent movement while looking in the mirror would reflect the present, and touching the red
dot would reflect what others are thinking which relates perfectly to Gallup s statement in the
beginning of this article. a mirror was presented with the reflective side facing the magpie being
the only interpretation of the bird seeing the marked spot they had on them. During one trial with a
mirror and a mark, three out of the five magpies showed a minimum of one example of self directed

Ethnic And Racial Diversity
After reading the ethnic and racial differences chapter, what stood out for me was how much
ethnicity and culture could negatively affect a student s academic life. It is important to treat
those of different ethnicities, races and cultures the same as you would treat anyone else,
including yourself. Ethnicity is defined as a cultural heritage or characteristics shared by a
group, such as history, homeland, language, traditions or religion (Woolfolk Margetts,
Educational Psychology, 2016). There are many types of ethnicities; Australia alone has 35
different types of ethnic groups. Everyone has family heritage extending from somewhere else
in the world, the most common include Italian, Greek, German and Irish, and this forms part of
your ethnic heritage. My family heritage extends from Holland and Germany, where my
mothers side of my family were all born in Holland and migrated just before my mother was
born, my fathers family migrated from Germany during the 1800 s. Race is defined as a socially
constructed category of people who share biologically transmitted traits (Woolfolk Margetts,
Educational Psychology, 2016). These traits include common features such as skin colour and hair
texture. As I was born in Australia and my heritage descends from Europe, I am classified as
White. Other race categories include African American or Black, American Indian or Alaskan
Native, Asian and Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander. Biologically there are no pure races

Custom Molds Inc., manufactures custom designed molds for plastic parts and produces custom

provide manufacturers or electronic connectors a source of high quality custom designed molds for
producing plastic parts. After building a strong brand reputation through the designing and

Based on the changing electronic industry and business demands, Custom Molds should correct
major issues by adopting the following recommendations. The molding process should focus on
small batch sizes and purchase more small and customizable machines. More workers should be
hired to oversee the production since there is more labor needed to prepare the machine for each
customized mold. The plastic parts process should focus on few but large capacity specialized
machines. Fewer workers will be needed to oversee this process because there are few setting
changes needed. To control the problem of late deliveries, a better communication system between
offices should be implemented so workers do not need to walk back and forth between offices.
Orders should also be accepted based on the ability to complete the product in the time that is
promised to the customer. More efficient communication between all departments would result in a
more accurate estimated delivery time. To control errors resulting in defective parts, Custom
Molds should invest in moving the testing center to a more centrally located area. More frequent
testing and less walking will increase efficiency and decrease defective products. An alternative
option to the recommendations listed, is for Custom Molds Inc. to evaluate the market for the
products they produce and to decide to make either molds or plastic parts. The key factors that

Examples Of The Giver In The Giver
At the beginning of The Giver , the reader is to believe that the community Jonas lives in is a
utopia. It s later revealed that this is quite the opposite of what it really is. A dystopia. Along with
Jonas, the reader finds out how in Jonas s community they they give the elderly and newborns lethal
injections, constrict feelings, and prevent any form of decision making. When Jonasdiscovers these
things through memories, he is distraught, and he has the right to be. He wants to show everyone
what has been taken away from them, and what they are being lied to about. This is why I believe
it was completely justified for Jonas to leave the community.

Receiver to hold the memories for them. I ve tuned over many of them to you in the past year.
And I can t take them back. There s no way for me to get them back if I have given them to you.
So if you escape, once you are gone and, Jonas, you know that you can never return Jonas
nodded solemnly. It was the terrifying part. Yes, he said, I know. But if you come with me The
Giver shook his head and made a gesture to silence him. He continued. If you get away, if you
get beyond, if you get to elsewhere, it will mean that the community has to bear the burden
themselves, of the memories you have been holding for them. When Jonas left, the all of his
memories were released back into the community. Doing this, brought them many new memories
of pain, death, love, color and more. Pg. 147 There s a little female with pale eyes. But she s

So they (referring to the community) will be forced to bear those memories. By leaving the

showed the community all the things that had been taken away from them. He pushed firmly
again at the pedal with his foot and continued riding along the road. It was not safe to spend time
looking back. He thought of the rules he had broken so far: enough that if he were caught, now, he
would be condemned. Even if Jonas broke numerous rules, leaving the community would still

The Lion, the Tabby, and the Environment Surprisingly, the differences between the common house

differences between these cats though they are readily apparent. In order to examine the similarities
and differences, one must observe the cats in their natural environment. Comparatively speaking,
among domestic and wild cats, the commonalities between the domestic tabby catand the majestic

While a domestic cat usually enjoys a can of Tender Vittles or the occasional field mouse, a lion
typically enjoys a fine meal consisting of a zebra or similar wild animal. Food sources for a
wild cat obviously depend on the environment. Depending on the abundance of prey, the wild cat
may have to wait a few days before eating which is a sharp contrast to most domestic cats who
have the luxury of being presented with a gourmet meal placed in a cute bowl along with a bowl
of milk or water. The environmental differences between a domestic cat and a wild cat also include
health care. Cats are prone to many life threatening diseases such as rabies, distemper, feline
leukemia, parasites, and respiratory illnesses. Many wild cats simply die due to complications of
the many diseases since there is not usually a friendly veterinarian camping out on the African
plains. However, prevention and medication that is available through the local veterinarians, aid in
providing quality health care for most domestic cats. Additionally, while domestic cats can be found
in abundance in local shelters, lions unfortunately face problems from human threats such as
agriculture expansion which decreases their natural habitat, poaching, and

The US Constitution on Privacy Rights
I. Introduction
The U.S. constitution contains no expression of valued rights in considering privacy. Therefore, the
Supreme Court has adopted a rather narrow interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment
specifically in regards to the term liberty, as established in the due process clause . Earlier Supreme
Court decisions were not concerned with how states constituted their residents. Thus, any state, at
this time, was at the liberty to deprive its residents of their first amendment, freedom of speech,
religion, and press. However, this is much leniency and room for interpretation in the Due Process
Clause, because it may be stretched to constitute not only at federal level but the state level.

III. The Right to Abortion
The Griswold v. Connecticut is greatly remarkable and struck controversy in the hearts of many.
Thus, in relation to the Griswold v. Connecticut case is yet another controversial case decided
seven years later, Roe v. Wade(1973). This case serves as a landmark case involving the issue of
privacy under the due process clause, however consisted of moderately different facts compared to
the Griswold v. Connecticut case, in that a pregnant woman brought to Court, in the state of Texas,
the proscribing dispute to terminate a pregnancy, which under Texas law abortion subsisted as a
criminal statute. The rather surprising aspect of this case was the Courts ruled it as constitutional.
The Supreme Court ruled, in a 7 2 vote, that the rights of a woman to decide whether or not to
become a mother is a right to privacy, which is protected under the Fourteenth Amendment.
Individual freedom is crucial in this case in that a mother should have the decision to abort a
pregnancy. In the majority opinion, provided by Justice

Coming of Age in Mississippi- Anne Moody
Anne Moody learned about the importance of race early in her life. Having been born and raised
in an impoverished black family from the South, she experienced first hand the disparity in the lives
of Whites and Blacks.
The story begins with Anne as a four year old child watching her parents work everyday for Mr.
Carter, a white plantation owner. She witnessed several black farmers living in rotten, two room
wooden shacks. It was most likely evident to her, even at that early age, that Whites were the
affluent, upper class.
She elucidates her recognition of the difference in living conditions in the following statements:
It seemed as though we were always moving. Every time it was a house on some white man s place

One explanation for her mother s reaction is her hesitancy to engage in discussions about race.
Throughout the text Moody s mother seems to accept her place as an inferior without questioning
the superiority of whites and the issues that racial inequities engender. Her mother s reluctance to
challenge the status quo contributes to Moody s evolving understanding of impact of the racism.
As Anne begins to mature she comes to the stark realization that the existing racial divide is not
simply a difference based on economic disparity but a true statement of inferiority versus
superiority. One experience that manifested this was a visit to a movie theater with some white
friends. Moody was not allowed to sit with the group; she was forced to sit instead in the Jim
Crowe section.
Later in the text Moody received her first job working for a white woman earning two nickels a
week. Her employer also gave her milk, the sour milk that the cats drank from. This insincere
gesture of kindness continued to show Moody that she was not respected as a human being, but
regarded with no higher priority than that of an animal.
In addition to some of the more negative encounters resulting from differences in race explained
above, Moody had positive experiences that informed her understanding of the lives of Whites
compared to the lives of Blacks.
Moody had a white employer by the name of Mrs. Clairborne who treated

Capital Punishment Should Be Prohibited By Our Justice System
Death Penalty
Capital punishment, or the death penalty, is one of the most debated issues in politics. It is a
subject with a long and varied history; countries have adjusted their laws about it many times. The
methods of the death penalty have changed over time as well, from public to private executions and
from hanging, firing squads and beheading to lethal injection. Despite this evolution, there are some
questions yet to be answered, such as: Does capital punishment have benefits? Does a person s
religion factor into his/her perspective about the death penalty? What are the reasons behind
established capital punishment? could they be out of a desire for rehabilitation, or out of a desire
for retribution? Whatever the answers of these questions, it is basically a way to take a life. Thus,
Capital punishment should be prohibited by our justice system because it violates human rights, is
a savage way of applying justice, and does not dissuade criminals.
First of all, the death penalty contradicts with all religious covenants, and it is a hypocrisy of our
beliefs, which aim to safeguard human rights and dignity. Our society has many kinds of biases
and prejudices, and these serve as filters that determine which murders are investigated seriously,
which ones are brought to trial, which ones are prosecuted as death penalty cases, which ones are
being pressured by public opinion and politicians and media for death sentences, which ones will

How Gender Comes Into Play
In my previous paper I was very interested in how gender comes into play when it comes to how
people balance paid work and family time. This was really interesting to me because as a
daughter I was really interested to see if any of the themes that I saw reminded of when I was
young. Even more than that, however, I was interested to see what might happen to me as I get
older, get married, and start having children. While I am young now, I am very eager to settle
down and have a familyso I was very curious at the different themes that I would see when I
interviewed a married women, who was Named Lucy .
The themes that I did see in my research were inequality, a very traditional family dynamic
(which I thought was caused by a gender trap), and family myths. The division of household labor
in this family was very traditional, the mother, who I interviewed, was the one who did most, if
not all, of the household labor along with working a full time job. That led me to believe that they
had a very traditional family dynamic, even though that might not be the true ideology of the
women I interviewed. I picked up on a few things while I was interviewing her that I think led to
the traditional division of labor. I thought that they were very much caught in a gender trap,
meaning that they think that they have to do what is typical for their gender. That meant that the
childcare and the housework, which is seen as more of a feminine, were up to Lucy. The other

Literature Review Editing Process
Literature Review In examining recent literature on the topic of editing in the writing process,
three areas appear to be of some concern in dealing with this issue: 1) The true definition of editing
and the editing process, 2) The perceived role and responsibilities of the teacher and students, and
3) Effective editingstrategies that will increase student learning. In order to truly implement editing
strategies that will impact the learner, the first two areas must be addressed.
In the review of the literature, I found that many students and teachers alike had some
misconceptions about the true definition of editing and the roles that each must play. Often times,
the editing process and the revision process were mistakenly mixed, or thought to be one and the
same process. Marchisan and Alber (2001) define the revision stage as the time to look for
changes in concepts and improvements to the paper in order to help achieve its purpose for the
audience. In this stage, the writer becomes a problem solver to improve the concept (idea) of the
paper.
The editing stage is on a different scale. It is not used to make changes in the concept of the paper,
rather it is to improve and clarify the meaning. Enders (2001) states that in the editing stage,
students should check for errors in spelling, usage, and clarity of expression. Too often teachers mix
both the revision stage and editing stage, creating confusion with the students in what they are
really suppose to do

Boys Behavior In Lord Of The Flies Research Paper
The behavior of the boys prior to the storm coming was calm as the boys were on the beach, and
Jack was feeding both Ralph and Piggy and there was only a thunderous brass. (pg. 149)
However, Jack begins an argument with Ralph and says that the conch doesn t count at this end
of the island. Shortly after Jack says this, all at once, the thunder stuck. Instead of the dull boom,
there was a point of impact in the explosion. (pg. 150) The description of the storm quickly
changed as it is now being described as more intense as before, since the word explosion is used
to describe the thunder instead of dull boom. Since the description of the storm began to escalate
directly after Jack began to challenge Ralph and the rule of the conch therefore becoming chaotic,
and defying order the correlation of the intensity of the storm and the boys behavior is made clear.
Then, the storm begins to bring thunder [that was] only just bearable and [a] flickering bright light
[that] became brighter (pg. 151) At the same time, the littluns start to become disorderly as they
begin to scream and run around recklessly, and the bigguns begin moving... Show more content on

A stakeholder is anyone with an interest in a business. Stakeholders are individuals, groups or
organisations that are affected by the activity of the business. There are two different types of
stakeholders; internal and external. Internal stakeholders are groups within the business e.g owner
/workers and employees. External stakeholders are local and national communities and
governments, these are groups outside of the business.

The staff/employees of Oxfam influence the charity greatly and are the main reason as to why the
charity is successful. They provide the friendly customer service to those who decide to shop at
the Oxfam stores. Staff usually do work for free so this allows Oxfam to spend more on
developing third world countries, again this has an impressive influence.
Suppliers want steady orders and prompt payment, they also want to feel valued by the company
that they supply.
Suppliers are interested in supplying Tesco with goods because of the business they get from them
and the profit that they receive. They influence Tesco because if the suppliers go out of business
then Tesco will have to find new suppliers that may not offer the same high standards as the
previous supplier.
Suppliers/donators influence Oxfam greatly. Without the public supplying Oxfam shops with
goods to sell, the shops would fail and would not be able to raise money to support the charities
work for third world countries.
This may be a sole trader or partnership. In a company it would be the shareholders. A charity
would be considered to be owned by trustees owners often have a great influence on the business
and are considered important stakeholders because they might have put a good part of their life
into setting up a business. Owners like to see the success of profit making and the growth of the
business.

Reflexive Listening In Extract 9
The function and structure of the conversation in extract 9 is almost similar to the interactions
found in extract 8. Here, the therapist asked the question to the patient with a possible intention to
evaluate the patient recovery through a patient centred approach. In this extract the patient not only
expressed concern (actually I can t say I got reduced (disease)) but also illustrate active expression
of demands (I can t...). The patient expressed active demands in the form of worries that he
experienced in his daily life. So, the patients described to the therapist certain functional activities as
his priorities to improve (I couldn t dry my hairs... Then, still I have difficulty during brushing
teeth). This kind of patients concerns and worried possibly affect patient satisfaction and the
therapeutic encounter.
Here, in this extract the therapist pay attention to the patient concerns with interest in the form of

instance, the therapist may be asked (If you think right from the initial stage) this question with the

All Quiet On The Western Front Comradeship Analysis
We all share the same fear and the same life;we are nearer than lovers, in a simpler, a harder
way;I could bury my face in them, in these voices, these words that have saved me and will stand
by me . Comradeship is vital in war, because it keeps soldiers human. The theme of comradeship in
All Quiet on the Western Front is embraced when the soldiers rescue each other during battle, stick
together and not become separated, and keep each other s spirits up in the darkest of days.
Soldiers rescuing each other during battle shows comradeship. While fighting on the front line,
Paul becomes separated from his comrades and cannot search for them for fear of being shot
down. It is Kat and Albert who have come out with a stretcher to look for me, (Remarque 227).
Paul s friends coming to search for him shows comradeship because they are being brave and
risking their lives to find their friend. Going out to look for Paul shows that they care about and
value him. During a bombardment, new recruits are traumatized, scared, and helpless because they
do not know what to do, so veterans quickly teach them. We teach them to fling themselves into
holes as quick as lightning... (Remarque 134). The soldiers try to help each other during battle,
which displays comradeship because veterans want to help them live. They aren t doing this to
have bodies to fight, but to save human souls. Comradeship is embraced by soldiers rescuing and
teaching each other during war.
Comradeship is also shown when

The Differences Between Westernized American Culture And...
East Asian Culture This world we live in is such a diverse place with many different cultures,
religions, and traditions. Every culture has their own traditions and rules that they abide by, because
this is the norm for that culture. By stepping out of what you were taught in your culture, and
choosing to learn and try to understand why other cultures do things differently, you earn a new
perceptive on this world. You earn a new respect for not only this other culturethat you are learning
about, but also for your own culture. This paper will be comparing and contrasting the differences
between westernized American culture and East Asian Islamic culture, with a focus on how gender
and religion can influence the everyday life of the individuals living in these different cultures.
American culture can be very diverse on its own; it is the melting pot after all. There are many
different cultures practiced in America, but one may not necessarily be exposed to all of them.
This is very evident in my own situation, because I am from a very small town in southern Indiana.
Being from a small town means that everyone knows everything, about everyone. That being said,
we only have a few families in my home town who were not your typical white, Christian family.
My perspective of American culture my not necessarily be the correct one, but that is my home
town. It was a small farm town, with a mainly white population, where everyone went to the same
church on Sunday, and

Pros And Cons Of Affordable Care Act
The Affordable Care Act (ACA), mostly known as ObamaCare, is a health reform legislation. It
was passed by Congress and enacted as a law by President Barack Obama in March 2010.
Throughout Barack Obama s presidential campaign, they emphasized the necessity to improve the
health insurance of Americans; therefore, the Obama administration created a legislation with a
plan to help more people become insured. The ACA consists of three main features: creation of a
new state based insurance, individual mandate, and new government subsidies. Creating a new
state based insurance, allowed many people to have insurance. Almost every individual was able to
buy health insurance. The first provision also includes insurance regulations that prohibit insurers

These regulations were only a wide range of benefits that Americans could receive through the
Affordable Care Act. In specific detail the ACA provided consumers the opportunity to find
information online, prohibit businesses from denying health insurance benefits. Consequently the
first provision brought out many complaints and problems within businesses. They disagreed on
the idea that they had to provide health coverage to all of their workers. It even became a
controversial subject that led to lawsuits. For example in 2014 Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores
decision occurred. The Hobby Lobby Stores business surround their principles around the Christian
faith; therefore, they believe contraceptives are against their religion. According to the Affordable
Care Act, businesses must provide certain preventive medicines to their employers, and
contraceptives are preventive medicines. Within this regulation there were exceptions for non profit
religious organizations, but Hobby Lobby Stores were not part of the exceptions. Hobby Lobby
representatives decided to sue the Secretary of Department of Health and Human

Analysis Of The Tell-Tale Heart By Edgar Allan Poe
Poe s Proficient Poems and Skillful Short Stories
Authors experiences can often influence their works of literature, especially harrowing, disturbing
events. Life changing events like the death of a family member, an illness, or severe depression
shapes the way one views the world, and some authors express their feelings onto paper. Edgar
Allan Poe, a skilled gothic fiction writer, experienced hardships and depression, which he
conveys throughout his grim works. In his short story, The Tell Tale Heart, a mentally ill man
successfully kills an old man because of his evil eye, but confesses to the crime, out of guilt. In
one of Poe s poems, The Raven, a mysterious raven visits the grieving speaker and reminds him
that he will not escape the wrath of sorrow. Although Poe s stories of misery and madness captivate
many, his use of literary devices emphasize overarching themes and chilling moods, thus creating
the powerful stories.
First, Poe uses irony, or a contrast between expectation and reality, to build an alarming and
unsettling mood. In The Tell Tale Heart, the narrator creeps into the murky darkness of the old
man s room and notes that the shutters were close fastened, through fear of robbers (Poe 355). The
old man s precautions present situational irony, because he attempts to prevent outside threats from
harming him, while the biggest threat resides on the inside. Because the thought of an insane
stalker startles people, Poe s use of the irony emphasizes the unsettling mood. Additionally, Poe
employs irony in The Raven to create an alarming mood. When the mysterious raven makes an
unexpected appearance in the speaker s chamber, it perches upon a bust of Pallas (Poe 41).
Because the raven speaks nonsense like Nevermore , the placement of the ridiculous bird reveals
situational irony(Poe 48). By placing nonsense above Pallas, or wisdom, Poe enhances the alarming
mood. Therefore, the irony in The Tell Tale Heart and The Raven helps strengthen the unsettling
and distressing mood.
Next, Poe creates a suspenseful and melancholic tone through carefully picked diction and negative
connotations. In The Tell Tale Heart, as the narrator meticulously opens the lantern, a dim ray like

  • 2. A Specific Moment In My Life That Has Drastically Impacted... If I had to pin point a specific moment in my life that has drastically impacted my academic career it would be the summer class I took last year at my community college. We were all in class talking about career planning and what majors we were going to choose once we finished the course and my professor brought up a very good point. She was asking us all what we wanted to do and most of us didn t have a solid answer so she looked around the room and asked, when you guys were kids what did you want to be when you grew up? The first thing I thought of was that I wanted to be a singer. That however would never work out because I cannot sing to save my life. Other students were saying things like doctors, lawyers, and other big jobs like that. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Themes In The Chrysalids It is a clear indication that the writer John Wyndham wrote the novel The Chrysalids as a warning in our society today. When you compare the novel to our society, these are similar issues that people today must deal with. In the novel The Chrysalids the author shows several issues within the Waknuk community which includes acts of ignorance, judgment, and intolerance. The people of Waknuk also use religion as an evil way of controlling the community which ultimately causes sin and contradicts what they believe in. These issues the Waknuk people face can be compared to what people face today. The first indication that is shown in the novel in comparison with today s society is the act of ignorance. The act of ignorance is defined as the lack of knowledge or information. An example of ignorance in the novel is that the people of do not know anything about the other communities within the land and assumes that they are not living by God s image of life. Because of this, people who were not apart of the Waknuk community were assumed to not be the true image of God. Although the Fringes were people with deviations, they were still respectable people and did not live to harm others like what the Waknuk people were doing. In our society today, ignorance lives everywhere whether it is in a form of race, culture, or even abnormalities such as the abnormalities seen in the novel. A good comparison with the people of Waknuk and today s society is the act of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Comparing The Protestant Ethic And The Spirit Of... Max Weber s study was influential in the emergence of the spirit of modern capitalism and is applicable to leaders past and present. It is true Weber argues that Puritan ethics and ideas influenced the development of capitalism. The United States is seen as having a democratic capitalist political economic system due to its economic incentives through free markets, fiscal responsibility, and its liberal moral cultural system that encourages pluralism. In regard to the analysis of power in society, Weber again introduces a pluralistic notion (introduction to sociology, 2010). As a result; the Protestant ethic guided its followers to work, develop business, engage in commerce and ultimately accumulate wealth for investment. The Protestant ethic was therefore the driving force behind the mass action that led to the development of capitalism (the protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism, 2016). In his book, The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, Weber explains how a strong Protestant work ethic and belief in living frugally helped foster the development of the capitalist economic system in the Western world. Although Protestantism dissolved socially, the system of capitalism was engraved to stay. This bureaucratic social structure, and the values, beliefs, and world views that supported and sustained it, became central to shaping social life. • 5. The Movie Out There and Advertising of Canadian Beer In today s market of technology and visual stimulation it becomes more and more important for advertising campaigns to stand out and be innovative, and it is this idea that drove one Canadian beer company to do something that had never been done before. In light of waning interest, Kokanee, owned by the Labatt Brewing Company, enlisted the help of Toronto based Grip advertisingagency to (with its entire yearly marketing budget) create something really big for there next campaign. Grip s innovative response to this challenge was to do something completely new and create an ad in the form of a full length feature film, which they would call: The Movie Out Here The Movie Out There is a ninety minute Canadian indie film created as an entertaining alternative to traditional advertising. The film follows three friends on their quest to save a business in the small skiing town of Fernie, British Columbia by hosting a huge party. Along their journey they encounter characters and sub plots that stem from Kokanee s long running advertising narrative of the Kokanee Ranger. This narrative chronicles the attempts of the Ranger and the Kokanee Girls to safe guard the Kokanee beer from the Sasquatch who continuously tries to steal it. These brand mascots are ever present in the film, although slightly revamped. The Ranger becomes a duo of rangers consisting of two young men: Glacier and Fresh who became the new mascots for Kokanee after the original ranger was killed off. Their ... The Bible talks about every topic imaginable to man; but the topic of woman is still today, a very controversial one. Depending on whom you talk to, opinions will vary dramatically. Are women seen as equal to man? Are women independent or dependent , and Are women only seen for their beauty and duties in the household? . Throughout the Bible, women are spoken about quite a bit. They didn t have children yet and there was no other human being or other job on the earth. One did not do a more masculine or feminine job than the other, they were equal. Another item of note; before Adam and Eve ate the fruit of knowledge, they both had no idea that they were naked. They did not know there was a right and wrong, they couldn t get embarrassed, or jealous, or angry. They were innocent. Adam wasn t the only one innocent or naked, Eve was as well. God didn t give more knowledge to Adam than Eve, they were given equal amount of knowledge and responsibility. That was the only time that human beings were perfectly equal. The only reason for that, of course, was because it was before they ate from the tree of knowledge. After that, mankind was born into the knowledge of embarrassment, anger, jealousy, pride, and inequality. The definition of equality is, the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities. When looking at the book of Genesis, Adam and Eve were equal in status, rights, and opportunities. Soon after Eve was created, Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge and convinced Adam to as well. An individual has multiple identities, both personally and socially. These connect them to other people relational identity; to groups, neighbourhoods, and communities social identity; and to immediate situation or surroundings situational identity. Very few theories or concepts support the idea of an essential personal identity . A concept that is more favourable is that who I am is learnt and that it does change often over our life span. These unspoken rules of social etiquette lead to society having preconceived ideas of what is the norm . In addition, anything outside of these values of normality is viewed negatively or with suspicion, this in turn can lead to exclusion of those outside of these so called norms . Identities of groups refers to differences as well as similarities; writer, Jonathan Raban visited New York during the 1980s. New York was experiencing record numbers of homeless living on the city s streets. Raban noted how negatively other people described them: Long term mental patients discharged from hospitals...crack addicts, thieves, alcoholics (Raban, cited in Taylor, 2009, P. 176). Over time, these separate identities blend and become one larger identity: the Street People, Raban suggested that it be given capitals as is used similarly to that of national or tribal identity. Making it a relational identity, Raban conducted participant observation, he performed both identies, that of the Street People and that of those walking by. The organizational structures of political and economic systems cause and sustain the sort of hierarchical relations that enable dramatic differences between and across sectors of societies. Within these hierarchies, the people at the top have privilege, wealth, and power, while those at the bottom of the hierarchy are dominated, oppressed, and exploited (Christie, 1997). People are harmed and killed as a result of structural violence but, unlike direct violence, it occurs more slowly. The harm or death of oppressed people may come about because some people are deprived of food, shelter, healthcare, and other resources (Christie, 1997). Because structural violence is embedded in a society s way of being, over the long term, groups of people may not be able to meet their basic needs to the degree that normal development and growth is impacted. In the 1960s, Johan Galtung posited the construct of violence as a phenomenon generated by the existence of social barriers that deny needs satisfaction in certain sectors of society. Galtung s conceptual framework illustrates the relationship between the structure of society and the inequalities experienced by its citizens. Gilman s seminal definition of structural violence reads, physical and psychological harm that results from exploitive and unjust social, political, and economic systems (1983, p. 8). ... • 15. Haydn Farewell Symphony Essay Since the early 19th century, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven have been venerated as the first of the three Viennese classics. Franz Joseph Haydn (1732 1809) was an Austrian composer who began his career in the traditional patronage system of the late Austrian Baroque and ended as a free artist within the burgeoning Romanticism of the early 19th century. He was one of the most celebrated composers of his time and a culture hero throughout Europe. He is familiarly known as the father of the symphony. Beethoven (1770 1827) was a German composer and a pupil of Haydn s. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the father of the four movement form of the classical period, is was no surprise that his Farewell Symphony included the Allegro assai, Adagio, menuet and trio, and the finale Presto movements. The symphony has an unusual and complex tonal scheme, involving three different structural tonics, F sharp minor, A major, and F sharp major; the double finale incorporates all three. The F sharp minor projects something inherently unstable which demands, and receives resolution by the tonic major, which is gradual, complex and a systematic change from instability to stability. This process involves all aspects of the music including tonality, rhythm, form, instrumentation, dynamics and psychological content. Beethoven also uses a four movement form but includes Allegro, Scherzo, Adagio and Presto Allegro. The formal structure of the movements, while generally adhering to the Classical models, charted new territory. The first movement, although in Classical sonata form, confounds listeners first by rising to a fortissimo climax in the harmonically unstable exposition section and then by delaying a return to the home key. The scherzo is placed as the second movement, rather than the customary third, and the third movement is a mostly restful, almost prayerful adagio. The last movement builds from a gentle beginning into a brazen finale, while recalling some of the themes from earlier movements and once the Ode ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She went out to visit her daughter, Rebecca, who married an insurance man in Canton, Ohio, and died there pneumonia but her body was brought back here. She s up in the cemetery there now in Hersey fore she married Doc Gibbs in the congregational church over there. (Wilder, act 1, 7) The stage manager does this to emphasize the fact that life is very short, and time can pass by in a blink of an eye. In addition to that, he also wants to show that you should live out your life, so you won t regret anything when you re dead. • 21. The Terrible Trade Of The Slave Trade Maddie Long Mrs. Smith Research Essay 19 October 2015 The Terrible Trade Screams for relief, cries for comfort, and moans for death all revolved around the slave trade. The slave trade is an event that not only impacted Africa, but the whole world. This essay will explain how cultures were ruined and families were torn apart. The slave trade has influenced history worldwide because it has impacted countries economically, socially, and politically. The Middle Passage received its name because it is in the middle of the Triangular Trade. Legs of the triangular trade stretch from Europe to Africa, Africa to the Western Hemisphere, then back to Europe again. This was a great route for Europeans to get ships around the world quickly and efficiently. This is how the slave trade began (Meltzer 9). Most everyone in the world today has a descendent from slavery. Enslavement is a human being that is possessed by someone else, who does labor for free unwillingly. An owner could range from a King, Queen, Noble, Tribe, Government, Clergy, or Business owner. Slaves were considered similar to horses in a way because they could be bought, sold, hired out, exchanged, given as a gift, or inherited (Meltzer 9 1). The slave trade was more than five hundred miles long from Africa to the Americas. At least 30,000 55,000 ships went through the middle passage in the time of 1508 1888. This, however, is not limited to solely the four religions mentioned above and are present in most religions around the world. In Nineteen Eighty Four, there are references to cleansing through torture in an effort to accept Big Brother and the Party in Room 101. Anyone who commits a political crime can be led in to Room 101, from Doublethinkers to sexual sinners. This relates to another idea of religions: fun and love should be directed to the ultimate leader, and love for anything else would be considered a sin, just like the society presented in the book. With Room 101 being hell, O Brien being the torturer or the devil, and political prisoners being the sinners, Orwell presents a familiar society that closely resembles most religions. One experience that manifested this was a visit to a movie theater with some white friends. Moody was not allowed to sit with the group; she was forced to sit instead in the Jim Crowe section. Later in the text Moody received her first job working for a white woman earning two nickels a week. Her employer also gave her milk, the sour milk that the cats drank from. What are the reasons behind established capital punishment? could they be out of a desire for rehabilitation, or out of a desire for retribution? Whatever the answers of these questions, it is basically a way to take a life. Thus, Capital punishment should be prohibited by our justice system because it violates human rights, is a savage way of applying justice, and does not dissuade criminals. First of all, the death penalty contradicts with all religious covenants, and it is a hypocrisy of our beliefs, which aim to safeguard human rights and dignity. Our society has many kinds of biases and prejudices, and these serve as filters that determine which murders are investigated seriously, which ones are brought to trial, which ones are prosecuted as death penalty cases, which ones are being pressured by public opinion and politicians and media for death sentences, which ones will have adequate defense attorneys, ... SYED JA AFAR (0822075) SECTION 19 My Leadership Potential There isn t a need for me to think for three minutes as I have decided long time ago to become the 11th Prime Minister of Malaysia, InsyaAllah. Why do I want to go that far? It is because, I love this country and I want to bring Malaysia and the Malaysians to the next level. Malaysians had enough of being in a developing country. Why do I set that as my goal? I believe 90% of Malaysian will agree with me that the current leadership of the country is not doing enough for the betterment of the people. Politicking will continue even so long after the General Election had finished. And there goes the 23 years of Malaysia rapid growth under Tun Dr. Mahathir... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Jews were protected even though they are in a Muslim community. This type of leadership is essential in Malaysia, as it has a multiracial and multi religion community. By applying the policy and formula used by Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H in governing Madinah, I am sure that Malaysia, even though a multi cultural society, can apply the Islamic law without threatening the rights of the Non Muslims. I would say that I would become a unique Prime Minister of Malaysia by trying to achieve 2 main goals which are to become a great nation in the eyes of the world as well as to become a nation that is blessed by Allah S.W.T. My mission is to transform Malaysia into a New Madinah which is well balanced in the aspect of worldly matters and also the hereafter. I would proved to the Non Muslims particularly in Malaysia that a Muslim country can be at the same level as other developed secular countries but in the same time, we can maintain our pride and status as the believer of Allah. The Non Muslims will be more prosperous and protected in Malaysia even though Islamic laws will be applied during my time of leadership. The world would have a new perspective on Islam and Islam will gain back the respect from the world. • 38. How Gender Comes Into Play In my previous paper I was very interested in how gender comes into play when it comes to how people balance paid work and family time. This was really interesting to me because as a daughter I was really interested to see if any of the themes that I saw reminded of when I was young. Even more than that, however, I was interested to see what might happen to me as I get older, get married, and start having children. While I am young now, I am very eager to settle down and have a familyso I was very curious at the different themes that I would see when I interviewed a married women, who was Named Lucy . The themes that I did see in my research were inequality, a very traditional family dynamic (which I thought was caused by a gender trap), and family myths. The division of household labor in this family was very traditional, the mother, who I interviewed, was the one who did most, if not all, of the household labor along with working a full time job. That led me to believe that they had a very traditional family dynamic, even though that might not be the true ideology of the women I interviewed. I picked up on a few things while I was interviewing her that I think led to the traditional division of labor. I thought that they were very much caught in a gender trap, meaning that they think that they have to do what is typical for their gender. That meant that the childcare and the housework, which is seen as more of a feminine, were up to Lucy. The other things that were seen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Pros And Cons Of Tornadoes Tornadoes make full use of the element of surprise. They seemingly form out of nowhere, varying greatly in size, strength, agility and speed, unpredictably destroying some or all of life s most prized possessions, including the most precious of all life. Leaving in their wake only remnants of physical memories carelessly scattered about. Living in TornadoAlley or any other tornado prone region is at times a leap of faith which only Mother Nature controls, yet societally this is an excepted risk. We have many advantages over our predecessors; statistic and evidence based weather forecasting improvements, radar, satellite imaging, warning and alert systems of various kinds, field StormSpotters and Chasers documenting these magnificent wonders. While the ban was lifted eventually lifted, little research progress had been made until 1948 when two US Air Force weather officers successfully predicted a tornado in Oklahoma (2010). The prediction of this event is what led to the establishment of the US Air Force s Severe Weather Warning Center and developed into what we know today as the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) in Norman, Oklahoma (2010). • 40. Literature Review Editing Process Literature Review In examining recent literature on the topic of editing in the writing process, three areas appear to be of some concern in dealing with this issue: 1) The true definition of editing and the editing process, 2) The perceived role and responsibilities of the teacher and students, and 3) Effective editingstrategies that will increase student learning. In order to truly implement editing strategies that will impact the learner, the first two areas must be addressed. In the review of the literature, I found that many students and teachers alike had some misconceptions about the true definition of editing and the roles that each must play. Often times, the editing process and the revision process were mistakenly mixed, or thought to be one and the same process. Marchisan and Alber (2001) define the revision stage as the time to look for changes in concepts and improvements to the paper in order to help achieve its purpose for the audience. In this stage, the writer becomes a problem solver to improve the concept (idea) of the paper. The editing stage is on a different scale. It is not used to make changes in the concept of the paper, rather it is to improve and clarify the meaning. Enders (2001) states that in the editing stage, students should check for errors in spelling, usage, and clarity of expression. Too often teachers mix both the revision stage and editing stage, creating confusion with the students in what they are really suppose to do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Boys Behavior In Lord Of The Flies Research Paper The behavior of the boys prior to the storm coming was calm as the boys were on the beach, and Jack was feeding both Ralph and Piggy and there was only a thunderous brass. (pg. 149) However, Jack begins an argument with Ralph and says that the conch doesn t count at this end of the island. Shortly after Jack says this, all at once, the thunder stuck. Instead of the dull boom, there was a point of impact in the explosion. (pg. 150) The description of the storm quickly changed as it is now being described as more intense as before, since the word explosion is used to describe the thunder instead of dull boom. Since the description of the storm began to escalate directly after Jack began to challenge Ralph and the rule of the conch therefore becoming chaotic, and defying order the correlation of the intensity of the storm and the boys behavior is made clear. Then, the storm begins to bring thunder [that was] only just bearable and [a] flickering bright light [that] became brighter (pg. 151) At the same time, the littluns start to become disorderly as they begin to scream and run around recklessly, and the bigguns begin moving... All Quiet On The Western Front Comradeship Analysis We all share the same fear and the same life;we are nearer than lovers, in a simpler, a harder way;I could bury my face in them, in these voices, these words that have saved me and will stand by me . Comradeship is vital in war, because it keeps soldiers human. The theme of comradeship in All Quiet on the Western Front is embraced when the soldiers rescue each other during battle, stick together and not become separated, and keep each other s spirits up in the darkest of days. Soldiers rescuing each other during battle shows comradeship. While fighting on the front line, Paul becomes separated from his comrades and cannot search for them for fear of being shot down. It is Kat and Albert who have come out with a stretcher to look for me, (Remarque 227). Paul s friends coming to search for him shows comradeship because they are being brave and risking their lives to find their friend. Going out to look for Paul shows that they care about and value him. During a bombardment, new recruits are traumatized, scared, and helpless because they do not know what to do, so veterans quickly teach them. We teach them to fling themselves into holes as quick as lightning... (Remarque 134). Every culture has their own traditions and rules that they abide by, because this is the norm for that culture. By stepping out of what you were taught in your culture, and choosing to learn and try to understand why other cultures do things differently, you earn a new perceptive on this world. You earn a new respect for not only this other culturethat you are learning about, but also for your own culture. This paper will be comparing and contrasting the differences between westernized American culture and East Asian Islamic culture, with a focus on how gender and religion can influence the everyday life of the individuals living in these different cultures. American culture can be very diverse on its own; it is the melting pot after all. There are many different cultures practiced in America, but one may not necessarily be exposed to all of them. This is very evident in my own situation, because I am from a very small town in southern Indiana. Being from a small town means that everyone knows everything, about everyone. • 51. Analysis Of The Tell-Tale Heart By Edgar Allan Poe Poe s Proficient Poems and Skillful Short Stories Authors experiences can often influence their works of literature, especially harrowing, disturbing events. Life changing events like the death of a family member, an illness, or severe depression shapes the way one views the world, and some authors express their feelings onto paper. Edgar Allan Poe, a skilled gothic fiction writer, experienced hardships and depression, which he conveys throughout his grim works. In his short story, The Tell Tale Heart, a mentally ill man successfully kills an old man because of his evil eye, but confesses to the crime, out of guilt. In one of Poe s poems, The Raven, a mysterious raven visits the grieving speaker and reminds him that he will not escape the wrath of sorrow. Although Poe s stories of misery and madness captivate many, his use of literary devices emphasize overarching themes and chilling moods, thus creating the powerful stories. First, Poe uses irony, or a contrast between expectation and reality, to build an alarming and unsettling mood. In The Tell Tale Heart, the narrator creeps into the murky darkness of the old man s room and notes that the shutters were close fastened, through fear of robbers (Poe 355). The old man s precautions present situational irony, because he attempts to prevent outside threats from harming him, while the biggest threat resides on the inside. Because the thought of an insane stalker startles people, Poe s use of the irony emphasizes the unsettling mood. Additionally, Poe employs irony in The Raven to create an alarming mood. When the mysterious raven makes an unexpected appearance in the speaker s chamber, it perches upon a bust of Pallas (Poe 41). Because the raven speaks nonsense like Nevermore , the placement of the ridiculous bird reveals situational irony(Poe 48). By placing nonsense above Pallas, or wisdom, Poe enhances the alarming mood. Therefore, the irony in The Tell Tale Heart and The Raven helps strengthen the unsettling and distressing mood. Next, Poe creates a suspenseful and melancholic tone through carefully picked diction and negative connotations. In The Tell Tale Heart, as the narrator meticulously opens the lantern, a dim ray like the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
