A rite of passage is a public ceremony that marks, recognizes, celebrates or is believed to actually
cause a change in a person and her or his status, usually brought about or related to increasing age
(Peoples, Bailey). Almost every culture has rituals that signal a change in life. Marriage is one of the
most common rites of passage in any culture. Weddings and marriage ceremonies are clear transitions
from adolescence to adulthood. Some form of marriage is known to have existed in all human
societies. Its traditional function in most of these societies has been to stabilize sexual relations and to
unite a man and a woman in order to provide care for the young. In addition, marriage has linked and
allowed for economic exchanges between different kin groups and has served as the primary coming
of age ritual for women (Nelson). In America we are known for throwing lavish ceremonies and
expensive parties to celebrate the union between two people. I ve attended quite a few weddings and
participated in one during my lifetime thus far. Most weddings in the American culture follow the

Homer s The Odyssey shows many archetypes throughout this tale of adventure. There is bravery,
death, leadership monsters, and slaughter all circling around the archetypes in the epic. The Odyssey
was set down in writing around 8th century B.C. The story is told by Homer. Odysseus is his main
character The archetype Odysseus plays is the hero. Other archetypes in The Odyssey are the monster
and the father figure. Modern readers gain insight about Ancient Greek culture from the use of
archetypes in Homer s epic, The Odyssey.

Services as an intern. This internship allowed me to further my knowledge in correctional studies and
provided the necessary resources to complete my master s thesis. I was also exposed to various
policies and procedures pertaining to probation practices while gaining a vast amount of knowledge
assisting with investigations, liaisons between state and local agencies, and the intricacies of offender

overall temperature of the Earth increases, ice and snow masses are melting. As more ice and snow is
lost, the ocean s sea levels are rising. Additionally with less ice and snow, less sun light is reflected
into space and instead it is absorbed by the planet. The continual absorption of the heat in sunlight
gradually warms the planet along with other factors. Therefore, the loss of ice caps, glaciers, and snow
is furthering the increase in the temperature of the planet.
The polar ice caps play an enormous role in regulating the Earth s temperature. According to
Montgomery (2008), polar ice reflects close to 90 percent of rays from the sun back into space.
However, our dark oceans only bounce back around 10 percent of solar radiation (Calvin, 2008). One
of the most important properties of that both ice and snow share is a very high albedo. Albedo is the

especially aquatic ones. I had visited an aquarium when I was younger and fell in love with whales.

People just categorize all negative aspects of waste as hazardous, even though neither one is good for

living organisms. While hazardous waste is when it is a solid, liquid, or gas that contains one or more
