The Electoral College Voting System
In the heavily political world we live in today, there are both upsides and downsides to our
current system. And with every aspect of our system, politicians can come up with loopholes to
benefit themselves. We are provided free healthcare, but you must fit certain circumstances in
order to receive it. We have the right to a fair trial, but a fair trial can quickly become a matter of
race, religion, or beliefs. In the same way, our democracyand how we elect our president must be
dealt with a tablespoon of salt.
The Electoral College is our voting system based off of 538 votes dispersed over the span of all
50 states. It is based off of population rather than size; a state with a massive population like New
York gets twenty nine votes while a more scarce state like Montana only gets three votes. If a
majority of the previously elected voters vote for a particular candidate, then all of the votes for
that state is delegated to said candidate.
This has benefitted the United States for decades. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gerrymandering, a tactic used by the federal government, separates people of an opposing party
using county lines just enough so that their favored party gets the majority of the votes. By this
logic, the outcomes of the presidential election has already been decided before candidates begin
the campaign trail. Gerrymandering is the reason we can assume which states are swinging
Republican or Democratic. The votes that don t coincide with the state s previously chosen
candidate are completely forgotten, and can only be valid in the popular vote race. While trying to
come up with a plan to participate everyone, the government has therefore silenced other voters.
Voters who care about their country. Voters who believe in change. Voters who don t want to be
punished for an amendment they weren t even alive to see it take

Socrates Apology
The Apology epitomizes Socrates acuities in a trial in 399 BC. Plato incorporates the word
apologia to illustrate the view, life, and events of the character Socrates. The publication provides a
chronological explanation of the life of Socrates in the following ways. First, Socrates
acknowledges that he almost became unaware of his character while addressing the Athen s
Populace. The prologue, therefore, creates the direction and the tone of the ensuing dialogue. Thus,
the introductory section enables the audience to develop a sense of understanding the character,
motives and the perceptions regarding the false accusations of representing a sophist and physicalist
ideas. Therefore, Socratesspeaks the plain language to counter the false... Show more content on

Principally, the explanation of the Socrates and the defense against the false accusations of youth
incitement and the devaluation of the human worth introduces the concept of the just and unjust
city in the ancient Greek that aimed to heighten the comprehension of the social order and equality.
According to the presentation of the speech, a just city accommodates the aspirations of every
citizen and provides equal opportunities for everyone to express their view and perform the
different tasks. Besides, a tolerant society according to the speech judges a person base on the
actions and the morals instead of the predetermined standards that sometimes are incoherent. Hence,
Plato s writings significantly enable the role allocation in the society encompassing the ruling elite,
the jurymen, and the subjects. According to the perspective of Socrates, he helps the audience to
understand his perceptions of life and his roles in the society including enlightening the populace.
Hence, the ruling elite as extrapolated in the publication has the obligation of providing rational
governance structures and upholding the integrity. Plato s narrative also introduces the next
category of the Guardian. In this perspective, he compares Socrates to the horsefly that keeps the
animal active without harming the horse. Therefore, the guardians have the responsibility of
safeguarding the society from the internal and the external harms and ensuring the sustainability of
the future generations. Finally, Socrates perspectives inform the public to ensure ethical decision
making to ensure that the working class or persons entrusted with leadership roles do not make
quick decisions that harm the critics. Thus, he suggests that the working class of the society should
ensure the provision of adequate and accessible commodities and services. Even though the defense
does not mention the roles, it is evident that Socrates aimed to

providing excellent customer service with a team effort. They have a certain prodical for making

Finally monitoring costs have to be considered in a company. The majority of theseexpenses are
spent on salaries of employers who are hired to monitor certain aspects of the company. This can
include monitoring the inventory of the business or the distribution of products and services. It
is important for companies to monitor the OMM costs of their business in order to make
predictions about future profits and losses. Depending on what type of business will depend on
what type of OMM system they will pick to help them run their business. Resurants will usually
have a POS system that will help them organize their menu and make it easier to track their food
costs and ordering transactions. Each business can set the pos system to be compatiable with
their business. For instance Taco Bell and Subway s both have the POS system, however very
differernt menus. Being able to customize the system give them an advantage to be able to have

The Difference Between Brutus and Cassius in William...
The Difference Between Brutus and Cassius in William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar
In Shakespeare s Julius Caesar , Brutus and Cassius are contrasting characters. They differ in the
way they perceive Antony as a threat to the assassination plot, their dominance in personality, and
their moral obligation. In Julius Caesar, Brutus is the more naГѓВЇve, dominant and noble character,
while Cassius is the more perceptive, submissive, and manipulative person.
Brutus and Cassius are very different in the way they perceive Antony. Brutus is very trusting and
naГѓВЇve when he judges Antony. When the subject of killing Antony comes up among the

When Brutus gives Antony the right to speak at Caesar s funeral, Cassius pulls Brutus aside and
says, You know not what you do. Do not consent that Antony speak in [Caesar s] funeral. Know
you how much the people may be moved/ by that which [Antony] will utter? Cassius sees that
Antony is a powerful speaker and that if Antony speaks the people will side with him. This shows
that Cassius has a much better idea of how dangerous Antony is.
Although Cassius is correct on how dangerous Antony really is, Brutus ideas are used because
Brutus is the more dominant character. In the play Cassius is the more passive character and
Brutus, the more authoritative. This is exemplified when Brutus and Cassius are arguing about
allowing Cicero joining the assassination conspiracy. Cassius thinks that Cicero is a good and
honorable man that should be included, but as soon as he nominates Cicero to join the group,
Brutus steps in and says, O, name him not! Let us not break with him, for he will never follow
anything that other men begin . Instead of contesting Brutus, Cassius just lets it pass and concedes
to not permitting Cicero to join the group. Although this particular argument is not pivotal to the
plot, it augments how Brutus dominates what decisions are made. Brutus again shows his
dominance over Cassius when the two are discussing military strategies. Cassius wants to stay

Grass Root Innovation Essay
This research aims at bridging important gaps in the way one conceptualizes the evolution of
innovations in the informal sector, by means of formally untrained minds, that have the potential
for Grass Root Innovations (GRIs). It also addresses important gaps in meeting needs of
disadvantaged communities, which formal systems like Science and Technology (S T) have not
been able to address so far, in a manner that is cost effective and affordable. While GRIs cannot
provide solutions to all problems, they can indeed provide solutions for some of them. The
conceptual basis, or the heuristics, underlying these innovations, can sometimes extend the frontiers
of science, or improve efficiency in larger mainstream technological systems, in addition to meeting
the local needs. But, incentives for developing technologies, which will have limited diffusion
because of socio ecological conditions, are difficult to institutionalize. The result being that such
niches remain unserved. However, if difficult regions, with poor market and bureaucratic
infrastructure, have to remain outside developmental impulses, then social harmony is unlikely to
be maintained. In this case, it would be difficult to attain sustainability. Effective inclusion of the...

The trigger to action can be many and each trigger might act upon a social network and/or
individuals, having appropriate motivations, differently. It is not just one factor that determines the
propensity to take action but many, and often in conjunction (Sinha, 2008). Thus, there could be
many factors explaining the reasons why certain opportunities trigger innovations in one setting but
not in others. The relationship between a social network from which support is sought, which may

The Irish And Chinese Immigrants In The 1950 s
The Irish and Chinese immigrants during the 1950 s were subjected to cruel judgment and unjust
regulations. Even though both of these races had such a major impact on American history, they
were once seen as an invasive species that were sucking up all available jobs. This forced the
American government and its people to take a stand against the Cheese and Irish. The Chinese
faced exclusion and economic laws, while the Irish were plagued with the label of being poor,
diseased, and considerably different from the prior Irish. The first sight of Chinese immigrants
came in 1848 on the coast of California. These immigrants came left all they knew back in the
Guandong Providence in search of a more prosperous American future. Overpopulation mixed
with economic and political crisis were the defining factors for their departure. During 1815 1855
on the entire opposite side of America, Irish immigrants were landing in Boston and New York.
Their appearance in America can be divided through the time period in which they came. 1815
1844 Irish immigrants left their native island due to British encroachment, cruel landlords, as well
as a explosive population growth from around four million to nine million. Yet, from 1845 1855 a
majority of Irish immigrants left due to a fungal infection that wiped out the primary crop in
Ireland, the Potato. While the Irish and Chinese had their separate reasons for leaving their original
domicile, they ended in the same country facing the same racial

Examples Of Racism In America Today
Racism Live!
How could an individual describe racism in America today? One could describe it as systematic.
The process brought on by hundreds of years of oppression because of a superiority complex. It is
the removal of basic rights and enslavement. It is the forced labor of a race to build a country that
would not acknowledge them as people, only property. That was America in its most unethical
form; it is the reason there are still problems today. Without out fully acknowledging the history of
America s past, the country cannot fully understand the racism that is going on today, such as the
mass incarceration of the African Americanpopulation and the killing of innocent black lives.

Transit Of Venus Research Paper
A transit of Venus occurs when the planet Venus passes in between the earth and the sun making it
visible for us humans to see a small round disk moving slowly at a particularly slow rate across the
sun.
The components to this are the Transit of venus
Transit s such as the ones that have been viewed in 1874 and 2012 are very rare nowadays and will
only occur every 243 years with a pair of transits that are 8 years apart from each other(1874
1882) (2004 2012), making it a very special occasion for scientists and observers to discover more
astronomy research in the 2012 transit. The reasoning to why it takes a long time for the next
transit to occur is because at every 584 days Venus is not directly aligned in between the Earthand
the Sun as it is positioned either below or above the blazing star. This event causes the light rays
to be undisturbed allowing the star to produce it s light over the earth, giving the reason why it
takes a very long time for the next transit to occur in December 2117. Transits are also known to
have a similar concept to Solar Eclipses. They are both aligned in between the earth and the sun
(Inferior Conjunction) during their particular events. The moon covers the sun quickly at
approximately 7:30 minutes and is appeared to be larger than the circular ... Show more content on

event occurring in the next 243 years. This proves that the transit of venus isn t just a black circular

transit, scientists discovered new measurements of the diameter of Venus and comparing them with
the measurements that the astronomers/scientists are familiar with, allowing further research on

Socio-Emotional Development
Physical, Cognitive, and Socio Emotional developments are ones that every growing individual
goes through. The EDC 307 course specifically focuses on these developments in middle childhood
and adolescence. This course has taught me an enormous amount about each of those stages. I
learned that in middle childhood, cognitive development entails changes in self concept, the child
relates their real self to an ideal self that they created. However, in adolescencethe cognitive
changes are centered around egocentrism and abstract thinking. As for physical development, in
middle childhood the changes are few, slow, and regular. Puberty is the most significant physical
change that happens during adolescence, ad it happens fast and suddenly . Socio emotional
development concerns social behaviors with peers and loved ones. During middle childhood,
kids normally judge themselves based on the opinions of their peers, parents, and teachers. I
found out that this differs in adolescence in that teenagers try to find their real identity regardless
of opinions. Although I mentioned a few things that I learned in this course, it is only a small
percentage of all that I have actually acquired. Moving on in my life, this information will be a
great beneficial factor not only in my career, but in my personal life as well. If I end up working

Redundant Storage Vs Backup Storage
Redundant Storage
Redundant Storage vs Backup
Redundant storage in the context of data storage usually refers to the use of Redundant Array of
Independent Disks (RAID). RAID is a set of disks which are usually identical in specifications and
when configured will divide or replicate the data saved on them.
A backup is where a copy of the data is stored on the same disk or another location and is the
primary means for retrieval of data should the need arise (i.e. due to loss of data or corruption).
The difference lies in the fact that RAID utilises multiple disks, which either replicates or divides
the data among them as opposed to storing a copy of the data on a memory storage device as in the
case of a backup. Backup has the capability of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In such a situation backup has the advantage in that it has the capability of being stored off site.
One possible improvement to redundant storage is to change the configuration to mirroring with
the capability of being backed up off site.
Striping, Mirroring Parity
Striping in the context of RAID refers to data being split up among a group disks (array). An
analogy would be like cutting up strips on a piece of paper (with text on it) and every odd line
stored on one disk and every even line stored on another disk. (Most commonly used in RAID 0.
Mirroring refers to the replication of logical disk volumes onto separate physical hard disks in real
time to ensure continuous availability. (Most commonly used in RAID1)
Parity refers to a bit added to the end of a string of binary code that indicates whether the number
of bits in the string with the value one is even or odd. Parity is the simplest form of error detecting
code in data.
The benefit of striping is that more data can be fitted on the group of disks (array) due to the fact
that it is divided up rather than replicated on each disk.
The benefit of mirroring is that in the event of a system crash there is a much greater chance of
recovery due to the fact that an entire copy of the data is replicated on each disk of the array.
Parity can be used for checking and repairing errors on

Analysis Of Rescued From The Reich By Bryan Rigg
In chapter three of the book, Rescued from the Reich, Bryan Rigg showcases a glimpse into
what life was like for the Jewish population in Warsaw, Poland during the month of September,
1939. The chapter examines many horrifying experiences the Jews faced, the role that God
played in their lives, and how the Nazis were able to take over Poland in a month s time.
Furthermore, Rigg puts great focus on a key person in the chapter, the Rebbe, who influenced the
lives of many Jews. Through all the chaos that consumed Warsaw, the Rebbe continued to teach the
Jews to stay true to their beliefs. Throughout chapter three of the book, Bryan Rigg evaluates the
events that take place throughout the Jews journey when Poland is at war with the Nazis and
how the Rebbe played a major role in the Jews lives. The point of view that the author, Bryan
Rigg, takes on is an objective perspective. The authors point of view is objective because he is
just stating facts that took place during a specific time period in history. Additionally, the author
does not include any bias or skepticism in the reading. Furthermore, the fact that his reading does
not include any of his own emotions, feelings, or opinion backs up the idea that his point of view
is from an objective perspective. The author uses biblical quotations from the Rebbe and facts to
reinforce his main points. He also focuses on one main thread that he incorporates into the reading
throughout the chapter. This thread would be the huge role that God played in the Jews life and
how it helped them get through hard times while the Nazis were bombing and invading Warsaw.
The chapter starts out describing the terror of war and the beginning of what would become known
as a tragic time period in history. Germany invaded Otwock, Poland on September 1, 1939. Early
that morning bombs were dropped awakening the frightened yeshiva students of Otwock (p38).
The students rushed to the Rebbe for instructions on what to do from there and he instructed them
to leave for Latvia, which was a neutral country nearby. In addition, he informed them to not be
afraid because God will always protect them (p38). This context of the reading shows how people
looked up to the Rebbe by coming to him for

Have you ever felt so overworked that it may be affecting the quality of the outcome? In today s

federal judges of the court system handle a vast number of court cases each year in the United
States. It has become directionally proportional between the growing populations, the increase in
crime, in turn leading to more cases. There should be a dramatic addition of judges within the
federal court system to lower the workload of the justices. From the signing of the U.S. Constitution

It has been an ongoing struggle for the courts to keep up with the workload. The fact that there

problem. In the beginning days of our judicial system, as said before, a judge s caseload seemed
to be reasonable. It was not until the last few decades where the workload skyrocketed. In civil
cases alone from the 1940s through the mid 1990s, the caseload increased nearly 580 percent. To
emphasize the point, bankruptcy cases within the same time frame had increased over 1500
percent. There is no question that the ratio between cases and judges has become overwhelming.
During the 1940s the comparisons between civil and criminal cases filed were parallel. However in
the next few decades, civil cases rose slightly over the criminal, but then another issue began. Even

The polymer owes its high strength to the many inter chain bonds. These inter molecular hydrogen
bonds form between the carbonyl groups and NH centers. Additional strength is derived from
aromatic stacking interactions between adjacent strands. These interactions have a greater influence
on Kevlar than the van der Waals interactions and chain length that typically influence the
properties of other synthetic polymers and fibers (Wikipedia). Therefore its main strength comes
from the intermolecular bonds and stacking of the material. Even though Kevlar is a very strong
material, it is yet very light considering the high strain it can handle. As this source claims Their
high strength to weight ratio and ability to resist high speed impacts enable them to be more
efficient than metals (Zhu). By this measure it is also known that Kevlar is almost five more times
stronger than steel. This image shows the tensile strength of Kevlar in comparison to other
materials. As seen, there is drastic difference and it has a much larger tensile strength.Kevlar has a

literature. In explaining psychoanalysis, Parker describes Freud s idea of the unconscious as
something more radical, something not just underneath awareness but utterly without awareness
(114). For most people, as they find their place within their society, they suppress the unconscious
underneath cultural expectations of normal human behavior. However, the unconscious desires and
motivations of the human mind continue to affect behavior in ways that are often unrealized and
uncontrollable. What other people see on the surface are these neuroses or symptoms that cannot be
fully controlled and, according to Freud, are significant substitutes for other mental acts which have
been omitted (184). Through sessions with a patient, the analyst discovers a common source deep
within the unconscious that explains the analysand s neuroses. Neuroses, affecting both normal and
abnormal minds, are the symptoms of the unconscious which breaks through the defenses of the
conscious mind. For some, these symptoms are common parapraxes in

Essay about Heart of Darkness
The Real Heart Of Darkness
Heart of Darkness is not only the title of Joseph Conrad s novella, it is also a main theme. This is
portrayed through different images of darkness, black and evil throughout his story. The setting is
often used with images of darkness; even as Marlow tells his tale, it is night. This darkness is
inside many concepts of the novella such as Africa, women, black people, maps, the ivory trade
corporation and Kurtz. Through these images on his journey, Marlow has a realization about the
inner darkness of man, and thus brings out the theme, and title, Heart Of Darkness.
At the time, the Europeans often referred to Africa as the Dark Continent . This is the main setting
of Marlow s story and his destination is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The journey he takes down the river into Africa is symbolic of a journey into ones soul, to the
center of darkness in mans heart. The darkness of the soul becomes more and more apparent to
Marlow as the crew goes deeper into Africa. This is because they start to feel more isolated and
Marlow has the opportunity to see a clear vision of himself.
As Marlow begins to realize the darkness within man s soul, he feels that women are too weak
to face this world he sees. They the women, I mean are out of it should be out of it. We must help
them to stay in that beautiful world of their own, lest ours gets worse. (p.376) Marlow feels that
the women should not be allowed to see the darkness, as they are too weak and fragile to face the
truth, and he believes they should continue to live in their own world. Marlow even lies to Kurtz s
Intended, telling her the last thing Kurtz said was her name, because the real truth was to dark to tell.
However, women are not the only people in this novella used to symbolize darkness; black
people are also exercised as an image of darkness. Conrad uses the darkness of their skin in
comparison to the white people s skin. Darkness is used to represent barbarism, savages and evil
while white represents all that is good. This black and white comparison also becomes apparent
when the white string on a black person is pointed out in detail, He had tied a bit of white worsted
round his neck Why? Where did he get it? Was it a

They consume growing amounts of energy and other natural resources, degrading the environment
in numerous ways. In addition to using up fossil fuels and other resources, plastic products create
litter, hurt marine life, and threaten the basis of life on earth. There is over 45 million tons of
plastics per year and nearly every piece of plastic ever made still exists today because of its long
life properties. Biodegradable plastics could be an effective solution to all of these problems.
Biodegradable plastics are a much better choice than non biodegradable plastics because they
are friendlier to the earth and the environment. Biodegradable plastics break down faster, can be
recycled easier and are non toxic. With these characteristics of biodegradable plastics, we could
help save lives and the environment as well and reduce the threat plastics give to marine life.
Plastic, the wonder material that we use for everything, is perhaps the most harmful of this trash
because it does not readily break down in nature but if it is biodegradable, these plastics break
down faster so they have a much shorter effect on the earth, and they will degrade completely.
Normal plastics are manufactured using oil, and this process is very harmful to the environment by
polluting the air and environment, but this is not the case with green biodegradable plastics. Using
biodegradable plastics will minimize the effects that these products

Barry Seal Essay
Barry Seal, not widely recognized among the U.S. public, played a vital role in the U.S. strategy

drug dealer, but also provided evidence to the CIA and DEA about other known associates. He
trafficked both cocaine and guns in order to help fund third world revolutionaries that would benefit

Introduction When you think of roly polys you probally think of a tiny little bug that curls up in

But did you ever think that they could have anything in common? Well they do! And it might be
even more than you think. roly poly defences Roly polys or the common pill bug are common
bugs. Sometimes you might even find one in your backyard! roly polys are very riny bugs that roll

Rhyme Scheme Of Mending Wall
Mending Wall by Robert Frost has forty six lines of human nature and its tendency to build walls
between. Mending Wall could be described as a first person narrative. The poem is written in an
iambic pentameter form and, mostly, there are ten syllables per line, but also there could be lines
with eleven syllables. There are ten syllables in the remaining lines in this poem. Even though it has
no rhyme, Robert Frostuses a subtle internal rhyme and the assonance in some ending terms like
wall , hill , balls , well and others. It is a narrative poem which employs dialogue to characterize
the speaker s thoughts, as well as the attitudes of his neighbor.
The scheme is five pairs of syllables per line, unstressed followed by stressed, verses ... Show more

Ironically though it seems that wall between the neighbors serves no purpose, the speaker states, It
comes to little more: There where it is we do not need the wall... (Lines 22 23). The awareness of
not needing this wall is clearly seen by the speaker as they emphasize the fact of the neighbor has
nothing but pine trees and the speaker has apple trees will never get across / And eat the cones
under his pines ( Lines 25 26). Even after presenting an argument about the uselessness of the wall
the neighbor stubbornly refuses to agree with the speaker statements. The irony of mending the
wall, or this act of neighborliness is that the wall literally keeps them apart but also brings them
together with the joint action of fixing the damages to the wall. The fact that speaker detests the
wall yet still helps to maintain it is irony in all in itself.

The end of slavery bought new challenges for everyone, and the same feelings and views
associated with African or African American people before, were still there (A Look Back at the
Black Hair Story).
Hiding out of embarrassment did not last too long. Garrett Augustus Morgan, the child of two
former slaves, noticed that certain chemicals he used at the clothing factory he worked at could not
only straighten fabric, but also hair (Taylor). After his first successful live experiments, first on the
naturally curly fur of an Airedale dog and later on himself, he opened the G. A. Morgan Hair
Refining Company in 1913 and began to straighten hair in his home workshop. The chemicals he
used were very strong could never touch human skin. The alkaline and lye chemical mixture strips
the hair of proteins and removes the curl permanently. In order to maintain the chemically
straightened hair, the relaxer would have to be reapplied every six weeks, or every time the curly
hair began to grow back. Stemming from the time of slavery, many African Americans found it
hard to manage their hair. Relaxers supposedly made their hair more manageable and caused
them to be widely accepted. Years later, African Americans who used relaxers saw the harmful
effects that lye had on their hair. It could cause burns, hair thinning, and hair and skin loss. No lye
relaxers were made to reduce those results. In relaxers today, chemicals a lot less

2014. Maternal effects on egg investment and offspring performance in black widow spiders.
Animal Behaviour, 91, 67 73.
Q.1 The study addressed questions like what effects maternal foraging success would have on
maternal body condition, fecundity, egg investment and whether an abundance in prey for the
mother would have positive effects on offspring traits like shapes maternal body condition,
fecundity and egg investment, and that maternal prey abundance has a positive, cross generational
effect on a number of important offspring traits, for example, sibling cannibalism in black widow

Q.2 The findings of this study include the knowledge that maternal foraging success is indeed
responsible for better maternal body condition, egg sac mass, egg number, mass, size and density
rate. Some exceptions were also observed where the mothers given the high nutrition treatment
made low density eggs and some given low nutrition treatment made high density eggs, showing that
these characters are also influenced by genetic traits of the individual. Sibling cannibalism is also
seen shown to be fitness related, genetically effected trait.

Compare And Contrast Hrothgar And Beowulf
The epic poem Beowulf translated by Seamus Heaney, presents two heroic kings that have very
clear differences on how they overcome challenges but they still keep their people in safe
keepings. Hrothgar and Beowulf are admired by their people because they both show strong
characteristics of what an Anglo Saxon king should do or be.
The king of Danes, Hrothgar, was first introduced as an accomplished and wise king. He comes to
be well known as a young king when he protected Beowulf s now departed father, Ecgtheow.
Hrothgar wergild peace with Ecgtheow s enemies so that the bloody feud would end. With
Hrothgar doing this generous deed to help Ecgtheow and his kingdom out Beowulf devotes his
assistance in the beginning of the poem. One thing that makes Hrothgar a good king is that he
always seems to stay true to his word, as is told at the beginning, the king kept well his pledge
and promise to deal out gifts, rings at the banquet (53 55). It was clear that Hrothgar was an
exceptional military leader with his bravery and strength but he is aged now and cannot fight
the same as he used to. The Danes are then faced with an evil and wicked monster, Grendel, who
terrorizes his realm. Beowulf asks Hrothgar if he could fight this battle for him to pay back his
family debt and Hrothgar agreed. Hrothgar makes a promise to reward Beowulf if he succeeds in
killing the monster Grendel. He says, For his gallant courage I ll load him with gifts.... shall know

Here is some background on varicella zoster virus. Chickenpox and Shingles used to be
considered two different diseases, but they are both caused by the varicella zoster virus (VZV) (
CDC chickenpox, 2016). Varicella is the primary infection that causes the chickenpox and the herpes
zoster is the virus that lays dormant in the host until reactivation and causes shingles. About 70
90% of all chickenpox cases that are reported occur in children under the age of 10 years old ( CDC
chickenpox, 2016). Before the vaccine was introduced in March of 1995, there were 4 million cases

Typically the infected person will need to be sequestered for 5 to 10 days or until the blisters have
all scabbed over. The incubation period is about 2 weeks after exposure ( CDC chickenpox, 2016).
The possible complications though rare can be devastating. It can cause hospital stays or even
death. Adults who contract the chickenpox are at greatest risk for death. Infants are at risk for
death too. Males have a higher risk for contracting the virus than females do. The older the
individual the higher the risk for more severe reaction. The primary complication from this
chickenpox is itching. Secondary to the itching is the increase risk for infection and scaring from
scratching the pox blisters. There is also a risk in children for ear infections and hearing loss due
to the virus. For most people, once they have had the chickenpox they are immune for life. But for
a few individuals they can get the chickenpox more than once (Tabers Medical Dictionary Unbound
Medicine, Inc., 2016).
There are several home treatments that can be done to relieve the symptoms and stop possible
infection and scaring. Oatmeal or baking soda baths help to relieve the itch and sooth the skin,
and calamine lotion will decrease the itch. The physician may prescribe an antiviral if the case of
chickenpox is severe ( CDC chickenpox, 2016).
Prevention is best. In 1995 the varicella vaccine was introduced to the USA. There are two types

Phenolphthalein Indicator Test: CO2 (g) + H2O(l) H2CO3(aq) H2CO3(aq) + 2NaOH(aq)
Na2CO3(aq) + 2H2O(l) How would the results of both tests be affected if you performed the
tests immediately after vigorously exercising for several minutes? Explain. Performing vigorous
exercise requires a high demand of energy in order to be accomplished, the body adapts to this
change by increasing the rate of aerobic cellular respiration which would produce more energy
to meet the needs. As a result there would be much more carbon dioxide being exhaled from the
body as it is one of the waste products produced during aerobic cellular respiration. CO2 is
specifically formed during the Pyruvate oxidation and Kreb Cycle stage of the cellular
respiration. To exemplify during pyruvate oxidation one of the steps is a decarboxylation
reaction in which the carboxyl group of pyruvate is removed to from CO2. Overall for one
glucose molecule two molecules of CO2 is released during pyruvate oxidation as glycolysis
yields two pyruvate molecules. Furthermore the Krebs Cycle also produces CO2 molecules
during the oxidation of isocitrate which produces a ketoglutarate. Another CO2 molecule is
also produced during the oxidation of a ketoglutarate. This reaction produces the molecule
succinyl CoA. As a result two CO2 molecules are produced for one acetyl CoA. These points
exemplify how the increase rate of cellular respiration would increase the rate of CO2 being
exhaled. In connection to the lab investigation this would speed up the rate of reactions as there
would be a much higher concentration of CO2 being exhaled compared to when the body is at
rest. As a result this would increase the amount of product being produced because of the increase
of CO2 in the reaction. Due to which the lab experiment would occur at a higher rate and it would
be faster as

Body Care Products and their Impacts Essay
Body care products. We use them every day. On our hair, on our body, on our face. And,
sometimes but not often, we think about the environmental, ethical and social impacts it has.
Nowadays, it s a standardised idea that it is extremely important to take in these factors when
choosing and purchasing products; however, is it really as important as it is portrayed to be? To
come to a conclusion as to whether or not it is important to think about the environmental, social
and ethical impacts when buying a product, both sides shall be discussed.
The environment is probably one of the most debatable subjects around right now. And yet another
debatable aspect about the impact on the environment is related to the body products. One must be

The chemicals used and the consequences related to them are similar to those stated above.
Another factor where body products endanger the environment is when it comes to packaging.
Statistics show that in fact body products make up a third of all landfill waste. The packaging
being non bio degradable is left lying in landfills, waiting for hundreds of years to break down.
With enough threats to the environment, is there really need to worsen its condition even more? As
can be seen above, the environmental impact of body products is quite profound. Body products
that go into the ocean can also cause dangerous consequences to the eco system, especially to the
organism living there. Even the packaging of body products affects the environment. Therefore, the
environmental impacts should be taken seriously when choosing a body care product.
Yet, some are still doubtful. They think that perhaps they are part of a scheme to scare people
with over exaggerated statistics and dangers. Some believe we are being too paranoid and easily
swayed by what we hear. So are we creating needles worries and stirring a storm out of nothing?
Before, we jump to conclusions too quickly by drawing conclusions from things we hear; we
should see the concrete evidence first. Although there has been lots of research, nothing has been

the job (Kadam, 2017). Once a person masters a specific ability then he or she is moved to the
next training phase. Several organizations use on the job training to train employee as well as to
retain and eliminate turnover. A person has no time limit as to when to master a job skill set but
rather to understand the importance of the job they are doing and how it affects the performance

Food Waste
Hunger is one of the key problems in the world today. Not just in small portions of the world, but
all over. Americans today rely on our food system and take the amount of food we have for
granted. What Americans aren t realizing, is that every piece of food we throw away, a child is
starving somewhere else. Not only are we wasting the food we buy, but 40 percent is just going to
waste. Newsweek, Bonnie Tsui, magazine publisher says, Forty percent of all food is never eaten,
and this rejection of ugly food the misshapen or imperfect produce that gets thrown out before it
ever hits the supermarketdisplay is a major contributor to food waste. Americans have too many
options when it comes to picking out their produce. If it doesn t look clean enough, they choose
another one. America wastes a ton of food every day, instead of focusing on which produce
looks better to eat, we should be focusing on cutting down the amount of food we waste and
saving money. Will our issue with food waste ever change? What is a solution to changing the
amount of food we waste a year? School today are teaching kids that it is okay to dispose any
leftover food we don t finish. Jonathan Bloom an author of American Wasteland and creator of
the blog Food Tank says, Every day, we re teaching kids that food is trash. We ensure that they
throw it away by providing support grub in a rushed lunch period at times of the day when they
won t be hungry. Kids are starting to believe at such a young age

Water Supply Between Industrialized And Developing Nations
Currently, only 2.5 to 3 percent of all the natural water sources available on Earth are composed
of fresh water as written by Paul Alois, a researcher and writer for The World Bank. Alois
continues, less than 1 percent is easily accessible for human use due to most of the natural water
sources being unaccessible. As the global population grows, the environment keeps changing, and
over usage of water sources continues, freshwater sources are only going to deplete even further.
Consequently, 2 billion people lack access to clean water and more than 80 countries are presently
suffering from water scarcity as reported by The World Bank, a nonprofit scientific research

Robert Glenton, Professor of Law and Public Policy at the Rogers College of Law, states that the
population of the United States has surged from 285 to 322 million since 2000. According to
Glenton, the american population increases by over 180,000 residents annually. Furthermore,
Glenton adds that In 2000, Americans used a staggering 408 billion gallons of water each day.
Utilizing the given statistics, it s safe to assume that the number of gallons being used by
american daily have increased tremendously. Yet, these numbers are dramatically different if
compared with less developed countries. In an article written by Mark Fischetti, an author for
The Scientific American, Fischetti demonstrates that The U.S had the highest per capita water
footprint, at 2,842 cubic meters per year. However, India s footprint is only 1,089 cubic meters a
year. Comparing the population of the U.S (322 million) to the population of India (1.252
billion), it s clear that a more developed nation takes advantage of it s water resources. As a result
of more privileged nations taking their water resources for granted, it has become apparent that less
privileged nations experience the most backlash. As a result, the fresh water scarcity has caused the
rapidly increasing global population to

Narrative Intervention Examples
Children encounter narratives in virtually every facet of their lives, as narrative discourse is a way
to communicate observations, feelings, ideals, and attitudes within cultural settings. The ability to
produce cohesive and coherent narratives has been linked to competence in socialization, working
memory, and academics, and children are proficient at understanding and creating stories as early as
first grade. Children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), however, often have
difficulty producing and comprehending narratives, which extend into their adolescent and adult
years. Narrativeintervention may be implemented to address academic performance and social
competency.
Narratives are the retelling of past experiences and are a means for communicating perceptions,
feelings, values, and attitudes within cultural contexts (). The ability to produce coherent and
cohesive narratives has been linked to competence in socialization, working memory, and

Emotional Intelligence And Human Resource Management
In the past years, many people have written about emotional intelligence role in the workplace.
Experts belong to emotional intelligence (EI) field provides many models and definitions to
understand the concept and meaning of emotional intelligence and its effects on individual s
(Employees, managers, supervisors) performance. As the world is becoming organizational world
and as the time passes change is occurring in almost every field. Thus Organizations (public and
private sector) have to manage change effectively to prevent the performance of workers from any
harm. For this purpose Emotional Intelligenceplays a very important and significant role in helping
the individuals to cope with this dynamic change in the workplace.
As mentioned by Naseer, Chisti, Aahman and Jumani (2011), Emotional Intelligence (EI) concept
was first introduced by Mayer and Salovay. Then it was further popularized by Golman, when he
raise a question that Why EI can matter more than IQ? Since then, this area become more attractive
in many fields like leading, OB organizational behaviour and HRM Human Resource Management.
(Naseer, Chishti, Rahman, Jumani, 2011).
According to John Mayer and Peter Salovey Emotional intelligence is the ability to identify and
understand accurately one s own and other s emotional reactions. It also includes the ability to
handle one s emotions so that good decisions can be made and individuals can act effectively .

The Black Flower by Howard Bahr Essay
The Black Flower The Battle of Franklin was fought on November 30, 1864, at Franklin,
Tennessee, as part of the Franklin Nashville Campaign of the American Civil War. It was one of
the worst disasters of the war for the Confederate States Army. Confederate Lt. Gen. John Bell
Hood s Army of Tennessee conducted numerous frontal assaults against fortified positions occupied
by the Union forces under Maj. Gen. John M. Schofield and was unable to break through or to
prevent Schofield from a planned, orderly withdrawal to Nashville. The Confederate assault of six
infantry divisions containing eighteen brigades with 100 regiments numbering almost 20,000 men,
sometimes called the Pickett s Charge of the West , resulted in devastating losses... Show more

The task of defending Tennessee and the rearguard against Hood fell to Maj. Gen. George H.
Thomas, commander of the Army of the Cumberland. The principal forces available in Middle
Tennessee were IV Corps of the Army of the Cumberland, commanded by Maj. Gen. David S.
Stanley, and XXIII Corps of the Army of the Ohio, commanded by Maj. Gen. John Schofield,
with a total strength of about 30,000. Another 30,000 troops under Thomas s command were in or
moving toward Nashville. Rather than trying to chase Sherman in Georgia, Hood decided that he
would attempt a major offensive northward, even though his invading force of 39,000 would be
outnumbered by the 60,000 Union troops in Tennessee. He would move north into Tennessee,
defeat portions of Thomas s army in detail before they could concentrate, seize the important
manufacturing and supply center of Nashville, and continue north into Kentucky, possibly as far
as the Ohio River. Hood even expected to pick up 20,000 recruits from Tennessee and Kentucky
in his path of victory and then join up with Robert E. Lee s army in Virginia, a plan that historian
James M. McPherson describes as scripted in never never land. Hood spent the first three weeks of
November quietly supplying the Army of Tennessee in northern Alabama in preparation for his
offensive. The Army of Tennessee marched north from Florence, Alabama on November 21, and
managed to surprise the Union forces. The two halves of which

Deciding to utilize an attorney to assist in preparing a living will requires research. When

In some states there are provisions that will not honor living wills pertaining to pregnant women.
Case in point, Marlise Mun Мѓoz from Texas was found unconscious at home by her husband, at
the time Mrs. Mun Мѓoz was 14 weeks pregnant. A few days later it was determined that Mrs. Mun
Мѓoz was brain dead. Although Marlise had advance directives in place, because of laws in the
state of Texas, physicians denied the woman in question requests not to receive life sustaining
treatment due to the pregnancy. Therefore, be sure to ask several questions and gain complete
clarity on this subject. When one decides to write their own living will, it can be incredibly
detailed or as simple as the individual desire. As a result, there are forms developed by one s
state that assist in creating living wills. These forms have many options listed to help an
individual devise a clear and precise document revealing one s end of life requirements. Haman
(2004) has provided an example of the information that an individual can include in a personal
living will form: Including coverage for a persistent vegetative state, even if the person s condition
is not terminal; Specifying which medical procedures you do not want; Determining the use of
artificial nutrition and hydration (i.e., the use of gastric tubes and intravenous feeding); Stating that
you do want life prolonging procedures; and, Having spaces for you to write

This combined structure is termed the enzyme substrate complex. Each type of enzyme will
usually act on only one type of substrate molecule. This is because the shape of the active site will
only allow one shape of molecule to fit in it. The enzyme is said to be specific for this substrate.
There are two types of enzyme inhibitors: Competitive and Non Competitive inhibition. If an
inhibitor molecule binds only briefly to the active site of the enzyme, there is competition between
it and the substrate for the active site. This means it is more likely that the substrate will collide
with a filled active site and so this is known as competitive inhibition. It is said to be reversible (not
permanent) because it can be reversed by increasing the concentration of the substrate.
Sometimes, the inhibitor can remain permanently bonded with the active site and therefore cause a
permanent block to the substrate. No competition occurs as it does not matter how much substrate
is present. This is non competitive irreversible inhibition.
Other factors affecting enzyme activity:
Substrate concentration
As substrate concentration increases, the initial rate of reaction also increases as collisions between
enzyme molecules and reactants become more frequent. When the enzymes

The Jealousy Of Honest Iago In Shakespeare s Othello

People of all sorts make discouraging remarks, doing things to seek revenge and to take and

Iago manipulates the weakness of his susceptibility to alcohol causing him to start a fight early on
in the play, causing Cassio s demotion as lieutenant. Iago also manipulates Cassio s charming nature
and handsome appearance in order to make Othello jealous of Cassio, as he seems to be the
perfectly white and charming, The Venetian war hero whilst Othello is not. Iago uses Roderigo
throughout the play to do Iago s dirty work. As Iago seeks control between the two and uses their
weakness to manipulate them and executes them perfectly to get whatever he wants. Which in this
case he wants to ruin Othello s heart by using Desdemona to turn on him to seek revenge. Now for
the prized jewel piece Desdemona, Iago s golden ticket. Iago by now knows that he should
finally make the last moves before his plan is finally executed. Within the shadows he finally
gets to Desdemona. His I deal plan to mess with Othello is by making her sound like she has
been sleeping with other men such as Roderigo and Cassio. Iago is able to create gross and
vivid images of Desdemona with Cassio, which cause Othello such torment that he has a
seizure. This is shocking for the audience as we see Othello lose both physical and mental
control at the word of Iago who implies that Cassio will Lie ... with her, on her; what you will.
He uses this and makes it seem like Desdemona is sleeping with Cassio to draw attention to
Desdemona. Iago convinces Othello that he over hears Cassio and Desdemona s relationship and
that they have been seeing each other.Iago has convinced Desdemona that she should appeal to

According to David Moats, by the late 1980 s an increasing number of lesbian couples around
the country were having babies (83). Rauch, validates Moats by saying, Of the 594,000 same sex
couples counted by the Census Bureau in its 2000 survey of American households, 28 percent just
over a third of lesbian couples and just over a fifth of make couples had children (74). A major
consequence of homosexual couples that engage in long term relationships is the danger to children
because children need the stability of married parents. In a heterosexual relationship, marriage laws
protect children in case something happens to the parents such as death. If the mother dies in a
traditional marriage, the father will have custody of the children, whereas in a homosexual
relationship, the partner who may have raised the child from birth is not entitled to the protections
and benefits that marriage brings. Thus, the child not only has to deal with the loss of the parent
that died, but also the parent that does not have legal rights to gain custody. Rauch adds,
Everything we know about children suggests they do best in stable homes, and everything we know
about homes suggests that marriage makes them more stable (75). The security of a family greatly
impacts the development of a child. The legal rights that marriage offers would protect
homosexuals in their

The Importance Of Competence In Physical Education
Introduction
As students advance through primary and secondary physical education, perceive competence will
influence their intrinsic motivation towards engagement. In a traditional sports unit, students that
have low capability will struggle. Furthermore, students that are low skilled alienate themselves
from their peers. One of SHAPES essential standards is that students need to understand the
concepts of fitness and health that will lead to a lifelong appreciation of healthful behavior. How
can teachers devise a lesson regardless of skill, that will benefit students, affective, cognitive and
psychomotor as a whole irrespective of ability?
Nicholls theory (1984) emphasizes that competence is a crucial element influencing the
motivational process; notably, capability drives physical activity.
Perceived competence is the regulatory system that operates motivation. When students engage in
physical activity voluntarily without the demand stimuli; this is known as intrinsic motivation. In
general, intrinsically motivated students will participate in physical activity for the pleasure and
gratification (Deci, 1975).
Furthermore, motivational regulations can influence engagement in physical activity.
An enthusiastic person participation in a task is known as engagement. (Reeve, 2004). The
common extrinsic motivations for young athletes in physical education are peer interaction,
competition, and skill development. There is room to believe that extrinsically motivated

  • 2. The Electoral College Voting System In the heavily political world we live in today, there are both upsides and downsides to our current system. And with every aspect of our system, politicians can come up with loopholes to benefit themselves. We are provided free healthcare, but you must fit certain circumstances in order to receive it. We have the right to a fair trial, but a fair trial can quickly become a matter of race, religion, or beliefs. In the same way, our democracyand how we elect our president must be dealt with a tablespoon of salt. The Electoral College is our voting system based off of 538 votes dispersed over the span of all 50 states. It is based off of population rather than size; a state with a massive population like New York gets twenty nine votes while a more scarce state like Montana only gets three votes. If a majority of the previously elected voters vote for a particular candidate, then all of the votes for that state is delegated to said candidate. This has benefitted the United States for decades. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gerrymandering, a tactic used by the federal government, separates people of an opposing party using county lines just enough so that their favored party gets the majority of the votes. By this logic, the outcomes of the presidential election has already been decided before candidates begin the campaign trail. Gerrymandering is the reason we can assume which states are swinging Republican or Democratic. The votes that don t coincide with the state s previously chosen candidate are completely forgotten, and can only be valid in the popular vote race. While trying to come up with a plan to participate everyone, the government has therefore silenced other voters. Voters who care about their country. Voters who believe in change. Voters who don t want to be punished for an amendment they weren t even alive to see it take ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Socrates Apology The Apology epitomizes Socrates acuities in a trial in 399 BC. Plato incorporates the word apologia to illustrate the view, life, and events of the character Socrates. The publication provides a chronological explanation of the life of Socrates in the following ways. First, Socrates acknowledges that he almost became unaware of his character while addressing the Athen s Populace. The prologue, therefore, creates the direction and the tone of the ensuing dialogue. Thus, the introductory section enables the audience to develop a sense of understanding the character, motives and the perceptions regarding the false accusations of representing a sophist and physicalist ideas. Therefore, Socratesspeaks the plain language to counter the false... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Principally, the explanation of the Socrates and the defense against the false accusations of youth incitement and the devaluation of the human worth introduces the concept of the just and unjust city in the ancient Greek that aimed to heighten the comprehension of the social order and equality. According to the presentation of the speech, a just city accommodates the aspirations of every citizen and provides equal opportunities for everyone to express their view and perform the different tasks. Besides, a tolerant society according to the speech judges a person base on the actions and the morals instead of the predetermined standards that sometimes are incoherent. Hence, Plato s writings significantly enable the role allocation in the society encompassing the ruling elite, the jurymen, and the subjects. According to the perspective of Socrates, he helps the audience to understand his perceptions of life and his roles in the society including enlightening the populace. Hence, the ruling elite as extrapolated in the publication has the obligation of providing rational governance structures and upholding the integrity. Plato s narrative also introduces the next category of the Guardian. In this perspective, he compares Socrates to the horsefly that keeps the animal active without harming the horse. Therefore, the guardians have the responsibility of safeguarding the society from the internal and the external harms and ensuring the sustainability of the future generations. Finally, Socrates perspectives inform the public to ensure ethical decision making to ensure that the working class or persons entrusted with leadership roles do not make quick decisions that harm the critics. Thus, he suggests that the working class of the society should ensure the provision of adequate and accessible commodities and services. Even though the defense does not mention the roles, it is evident that Socrates aimed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I chose these because I had an inside view to the OMM for all three of these companies. The OMM for Subway was a very simple one. Their main focus was on providing excellent customer service with a team effort. They have a certain prodical for making the subs, that they want you to stick with. This will keep foodcostsdown. For example they are suppose to put only six tomatoes on one sub. They have a weight or number amount for all meats, and veggies. The majority of theseexpenses are spent on salaries of employers who are hired to monitor certain aspects of the company. This can include monitoring the inventory of the business or the distribution of products and services. It is important for companies to monitor the OMM costs of their business in order to make predictions about future profits and losses. Depending on what type of business will depend on what type of OMM system they will pick to help them run their business. Resurants will usually have a POS system that will help them organize their menu and make it easier to track their food costs and ordering transactions. Each business can set the pos system to be compatiable with their business. For instance Taco Bell and Subway s both have the POS system, however very differernt menus. Being able to customize the system give them an advantage to be able to have their own style for the employess to learn and master. • 5. The Difference Between Brutus and Cassius in William... The Difference Between Brutus and Cassius in William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar In Shakespeare s Julius Caesar , Brutus and Cassius are contrasting characters. They differ in the way they perceive Antony as a threat to the assassination plot, their dominance in personality, and their moral obligation. In Julius Caesar, Brutus is the more naГѓВЇve, dominant and noble character, while Cassius is the more perceptive, submissive, and manipulative person. Brutus and Cassius are very different in the way they perceive Antony. Brutus is very trusting and naГѓВЇve when he judges Antony. When the subject of killing Antony comes up among the conspirators, Brutus underestimates how dangerous Antony could be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Brutus gives Antony the right to speak at Caesar s funeral, Cassius pulls Brutus aside and says, You know not what you do. Do not consent that Antony speak in [Caesar s] funeral. Know you how much the people may be moved/ by that which [Antony] will utter? Cassius sees that Antony is a powerful speaker and that if Antony speaks the people will side with him. This shows that Cassius has a much better idea of how dangerous Antony is. Although Cassius is correct on how dangerous Antony really is, Brutus ideas are used because Brutus is the more dominant character. In the play Cassius is the more passive character and Brutus, the more authoritative. This is exemplified when Brutus and Cassius are arguing about allowing Cicero joining the assassination conspiracy. Cassius thinks that Cicero is a good and honorable man that should be included, but as soon as he nominates Cicero to join the group, Brutus steps in and says, O, name him not! Let us not break with him, for he will never follow anything that other men begin . Instead of contesting Brutus, Cassius just lets it pass and concedes to not permitting Cicero to join the group. Although this particular argument is not pivotal to the plot, it augments how Brutus dominates what decisions are made. Brutus again shows his dominance over Cassius when the two are discussing military strategies. Cassius wants to stay ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Grass Root Innovation Essay This research aims at bridging important gaps in the way one conceptualizes the evolution of innovations in the informal sector, by means of formally untrained minds, that have the potential for Grass Root Innovations (GRIs). It also addresses important gaps in meeting needs of disadvantaged communities, which formal systems like Science and Technology (S T) have not been able to address so far, in a manner that is cost effective and affordable. While GRIs cannot provide solutions to all problems, they can indeed provide solutions for some of them. The conceptual basis, or the heuristics, underlying these innovations, can sometimes extend the frontiers of science, or improve efficiency in larger mainstream technological systems, in addition to meeting the local needs. But, incentives for developing technologies, which will have limited diffusion because of socio ecological conditions, are difficult to institutionalize. The result being that such niches remain unserved. However, if difficult regions, with poor market and bureaucratic infrastructure, have to remain outside developmental impulses, then social harmony is unlikely to be maintained. In this case, it would be difficult to attain sustainability. Effective inclusion of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. The Irish And Chinese Immigrants In The 1950 s The Irish and Chinese immigrants during the 1950 s were subjected to cruel judgment and unjust regulations. Even though both of these races had such a major impact on American history, they were once seen as an invasive species that were sucking up all available jobs. This forced the American government and its people to take a stand against the Cheese and Irish. The Chinese faced exclusion and economic laws, while the Irish were plagued with the label of being poor, diseased, and considerably different from the prior Irish. The first sight of Chinese immigrants came in 1848 on the coast of California. These immigrants came left all they knew back in the Guandong Providence in search of a more prosperous American future. Overpopulation mixed with economic and political crisis were the defining factors for their departure. During 1815 1855 on the entire opposite side of America, Irish immigrants were landing in Boston and New York. Their appearance in America can be divided through the time period in which they came. 1815 1844 Irish immigrants left their native island due to British encroachment, cruel landlords, as well as a explosive population growth from around four million to nine million. Yet, from 1845 1855 a majority of Irish immigrants left due to a fungal infection that wiped out the primary crop in Ireland, the Potato. That was America in its most unethical form; it is the reason there are still problems today. • 11. Transit Of Venus Research Paper A transit of Venus occurs when the planet Venus passes in between the earth and the sun making it visible for us humans to see a small round disk moving slowly at a particularly slow rate across the sun. The components to this are the Transit of venus Transit s such as the ones that have been viewed in 1874 and 2012 are very rare nowadays and will only occur every 243 years with a pair of transits that are 8 years apart from each other(1874 1882) (2004 2012), making it a very special occasion for scientists and observers to discover more astronomy research in the 2012 transit. The reasoning to why it takes a long time for the next transit to occur is because at every 584 days Venus is not directly aligned in between the Earthand the Sun as it is positioned either below or above the blazing star. This event causes the light rays to be undisturbed allowing the star to produce it s light over the earth, giving the reason why it takes a very long time for the next transit to occur in December 2117. Transits are also known to have a similar concept to Solar Eclipses. They are both aligned in between the earth and the sun (Inferior Conjunction) during their particular events. • 12. Socio-Emotional Development Physical, Cognitive, and Socio Emotional developments are ones that every growing individual goes through. The EDC 307 course specifically focuses on these developments in middle childhood and adolescence. This course has taught me an enormous amount about each of those stages. I learned that in middle childhood, cognitive development entails changes in self concept, the child relates their real self to an ideal self that they created. However, in adolescencethe cognitive changes are centered around egocentrism and abstract thinking. As for physical development, in middle childhood the changes are few, slow, and regular. Puberty is the most significant physical change that happens during adolescence, ad it happens fast and suddenly . Socio emotional development concerns social behaviors with peers and loved ones. During middle childhood, kids normally judge themselves based on the opinions of their peers, parents, and teachers. I found out that this differs in adolescence in that teenagers try to find their real identity regardless of opinions. Although I mentioned a few things that I learned in this course, it is only a small percentage of all that I have actually acquired. Moving on in my life, this information will be a great beneficial factor not only in my career, but in my personal life as well. • 14. Redundant Storage Vs Backup Storage Redundant Storage Redundant Storage vs Backup Redundant storage in the context of data storage usually refers to the use of Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID). RAID is a set of disks which are usually identical in specifications and when configured will divide or replicate the data saved on them. A backup is where a copy of the data is stored on the same disk or another location and is the primary means for retrieval of data should the need arise (i.e. due to loss of data or corruption). The difference lies in the fact that RAID utilises multiple disks, which either replicates or divides the data among them as opposed to storing a copy of the data on a memory storage device as in the case of a backup. Backup has the capability of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In such a situation backup has the advantage in that it has the capability of being stored off site. One possible improvement to redundant storage is to change the configuration to mirroring with the capability of being backed up off site. Striping, Mirroring Parity Striping in the context of RAID refers to data being split up among a group disks (array). An analogy would be like cutting up strips on a piece of paper (with text on it) and every odd line stored on one disk and every even line stored on another disk. (Most commonly used in RAID 0. Mirroring refers to the replication of logical disk volumes onto separate physical hard disks in real time to ensure continuous availability. (Most commonly used in RAID1) Parity refers to a bit added to the end of a string of binary code that indicates whether the number of bits in the string with the value one is even or odd. Parity is the simplest form of error detecting code in data. The benefit of striping is that more data can be fitted on the group of disks (array) due to the fact that it is divided up rather than replicated on each disk. The benefit of mirroring is that in the event of a system crash there is a much greater chance of recovery due to the fact that an entire copy of the data is replicated on each disk of the array. Parity can be used for checking and repairing errors on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Analysis Of Rescued From The Reich By Bryan Rigg In chapter three of the book, Rescued from the Reich, Bryan Rigg showcases a glimpse into what life was like for the Jewish population in Warsaw, Poland during the month of September, 1939. The chapter examines many horrifying experiences the Jews faced, the role that God played in their lives, and how the Nazis were able to take over Poland in a month s time. Furthermore, Rigg puts great focus on a key person in the chapter, the Rebbe, who influenced the lives of many Jews. Through all the chaos that consumed Warsaw, the Rebbe continued to teach the Jews to stay true to their beliefs. Throughout chapter three of the book, Bryan Rigg evaluates the events that take place throughout the Jews journey when Poland is at war with the Nazis and how the Rebbe played a major role in the Jews lives. The point of view that the author, Bryan Rigg, takes on is an objective perspective. The authors point of view is objective because he is just stating facts that took place during a specific time period in history. Additionally, the author does not include any bias or skepticism in the reading. Furthermore, the fact that his reading does not include any of his own emotions, feelings, or opinion backs up the idea that his point of view is from an objective perspective. The author uses biblical quotations from the Rebbe and facts to reinforce his main points. He also focuses on one main thread that he incorporates into the reading throughout the chapter. This thread would be the huge role that God played in the Jews life and how it helped them get through hard times while the Nazis were bombing and invading Warsaw. The chapter starts out describing the terror of war and the beginning of what would become known as a tragic time period in history. Germany invaded Otwock, Poland on September 1, 1939. Early that morning bombs were dropped awakening the frightened yeshiva students of Otwock (p38). The students rushed to the Rebbe for instructions on what to do from there and he instructed them to leave for Latvia, which was a neutral country nearby. In addition, he informed them to not be afraid because God will always protect them (p38). This context of the reading shows how people looked up to the Rebbe by coming to him for ... In today s day and age of our American judicial system, most would agree our judges are overworked. The federal judges of the court system handle a vast number of court cases each year in the United States. It has become directionally proportional between the growing populations, the increase in crime, in turn leading to more cases. There should be a dramatic addition of judges within the federal court system to lower the workload of the justices. It seemed like such a lightweight material yet it is very strong and it has a lot of different applications. These interactions have a greater influence on Kevlar than the van der Waals interactions and chain length that typically influence the properties of other synthetic polymers and fibers (Wikipedia). Therefore its main strength comes from the intermolecular bonds and stacking of the material. Even though Kevlar is a very strong material, it is yet very light considering the high strain it can handle. As this source claims Their high strength to weight ratio and ability to resist high speed impacts enable them to be more efficient than metals (Zhu). In this way, psychoanalysis is a hermeneutics of suspicion as the analyst must delve beyond the conscious and superficial qualities of the mind and tap into the unresolved, repressed, and often unknown process of the unconscious mind. This phrase, coined by Paul Ricouer, displays the use of theories as a means to interpret not the normalities but the abnormalities within both life and literature. In explaining psychoanalysis, Parker describes Freud s idea of the unconscious as something more radical, something not just underneath awareness but utterly without awareness (114). For most people, as they find their place within their society, they suppress the unconscious underneath cultural expectations of normal human behavior. However, the unconscious desires and motivations of the human mind continue to affect behavior in ways that are often unrealized and uncontrollable. What other people see on the surface are these neuroses or symptoms that cannot be fully controlled and, according to Freud, are significant substitutes for other mental acts which have been omitted (184). Through sessions with a patient, the analyst discovers a common source deep within the unconscious that explains the analysand s neuroses. In addition to using up fossil fuels and other resources, plastic products create litter, hurt marine life, and threaten the basis of life on earth. There is over 45 million tons of plastics per year and nearly every piece of plastic ever made still exists today because of its long life properties. Biodegradable plastics could be an effective solution to all of these problems. After his first successful live experiments, first on the naturally curly fur of an Airedale dog and later on himself, he opened the G. A. Chickenpox and Shingles used to be considered two different diseases, but they are both caused by the varicella zoster virus (VZV) ( CDC chickenpox, 2016). Varicella is the primary infection that causes the chickenpox and the herpes zoster is the virus that lays dormant in the host until reactivation and causes shingles. Infants are at risk for death too. Males have a higher risk for contracting the virus than females do. The older the individual the higher the risk for more severe reaction. The primary complication from this chickenpox is itching. Secondary to the itching is the increase risk for infection and scaring from scratching the pox blisters. There is also a risk in children for ear infections and hearing loss due to the virus. For most people, once they have had the chickenpox they are immune for life. But for a few individuals they can get the chickenpox more than once (Tabers Medical Dictionary Unbound Medicine, Inc., 2016). Explain. Performing vigorous exercise requires a high demand of energy in order to be accomplished, the body adapts to this change by increasing the rate of aerobic cellular respiration which would produce more energy to meet the needs. As a result there would be much more carbon dioxide being exhaled from the body as it is one of the waste products produced during aerobic cellular respiration. CO2 is specifically formed during the Pyruvate oxidation and Kreb Cycle stage of the cellular respiration. To exemplify during pyruvate oxidation one of the steps is a decarboxylation reaction in which the carboxyl group of pyruvate is removed to from CO2. Overall for one glucose molecule two molecules of CO2 is released during pyruvate oxidation as glycolysis yields two pyruvate molecules. Furthermore the Krebs Cycle also produces CO2 molecules during the oxidation of isocitrate which produces a ketoglutarate. Another CO2 molecule is also produced during the oxidation of a ketoglutarate. This reaction produces the molecule succinyl CoA. As a result two CO2 molecules are produced for one acetyl CoA. These points exemplify how the increase rate of cellular respiration would increase the rate of CO2 being exhaled. In connection to the lab investigation this would speed up the rate of reactions as there would be a much higher concentration of CO2 being exhaled compared to when the body is at rest. As a result this would increase the amount of product being produced because of the increase of CO2 in the reaction. This is because the shape of the active site will only allow one shape of molecule to fit in it. The enzyme is said to be specific for this substrate. There are two types of enzyme inhibitors: Competitive and Non Competitive inhibition. If an inhibitor molecule binds only briefly to the active site of the enzyme, there is competition between it and the substrate for the active site. This means it is more likely that the substrate will collide with a filled active site and so this is known as competitive inhibition. It is said to be reversible (not permanent) because it can be reversed by increasing the concentration of the substrate. Sometimes, the inhibitor can remain permanently bonded with the active site and therefore cause a permanent block to the substrate. No competition occurs as it does not matter how much substrate is present. This is non competitive irreversible inhibition. Other factors affecting enzyme activity: Substrate concentration As substrate concentration increases, the initial rate of reaction also increases as collisions between enzyme molecules and reactants become more frequent.
