Vladimir Nabokov and Lolita
A man of many talents, Vladimir Nabokov is known not only for his controversial work Lolita, he
was also an avid lepidopterist in particular, butterflies. There is no doubt that when penning Lolita s
character, Nabokov imprinted several butterfly characteristics on her. This essay however does not
seek to investigate the parallels between Lolitaand the metamorphosis of a butterfly. Rather, it
takes the road less travelled and examines the parallels between Nabokov and Humbert Humbert,
not as a pervert, but as a scientist. Nabokov s interest in butterflies stemmed from a childhood
obsession as he recalls chasing butterflies (Time) in Switzerland in 1964. While most people
relinquishes their childhood hobbies, Nabokov pursued his interest in lepidopterology throughout
his adult life where his passion for butterflies lead him to become a specialist in lepidopterist. As a
scientist, Nabokov was acquainted to the clinical ways of scienceexperiments and observations.
While this is greatly illustrated in Humbert s interaction with Lolita in both cases, the former
assumes the role of the scientist and the later the object of investigation Humbert s analytical nature
is also reflected in relation to other characters and incidents including himself as Nabokov draws
from his scientific persona in crafting Humbert s character. In both cases, the former assumes the
role of the scientist and the later the object of investigation. Scientists have to approach an

How Did John Locke Influence Society
Who gave us new ways of thinking and played a role in the foundation of our country? There are
many people that influenced our country and gave new ways of thinking, but there are a few
unexpected players that most do not acknowledge and appreciate. The Enlightenment was a
period in time from 1685 1815, where there was a drastic change in people s views towards
subjects such as philosophy, politics and science. It was an extension of the progress of the
Reformation and the Renaissance. It did this by continuing to extinguish the medieval perspectives
towards life which were that the church ruled over every aspect of life and people were restricted.
New ways of thinking came into play such as equality, logic, and freedom from the church,... Show

John Locke comparatively had more of a positive spin on things than Hobbes. Locke proposed
the thought that all people were born with natural rights, these natural rights being life, liberty,
and property. The government should agree to serve the people and make sure that they would
be provided with these rights. Locke urged if these rights had not been met by the government,
the people had the right to rebel and overthrow the government. Locke s theory got a lot of
attention because as he said in his book Second Treatise of Government that New opinions are
always suspected, and usually opposed, without any reason but because they are not common. He
feels that government was unnecessary because in his perspective, everyone was born with a
clean slate and that if someone was evil, it was the world that made them evil they were not born
that way. John Locke s views influenced famous documents, including the Declaration of
Independence. In the Declaration of Independence it includes Life, liberty and the pursuit of
happiness, which is based on John Locke s interpretation of life that humans were all born as
almost a blank page with no identity and the world and their lives create their interests, intentions
and everyone was given the power to the basic rights of

The Lumbee Problem Essay
nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The first reading was the preface and the fourth chapter from the
book, The Lumbee Problem: The Making of an American Indian People , entitled, What are they
trying to do now? In this reading, the author, Karen I. Blu, examines the political history of the
Indians of Robeson County, North Carolina and goes into detail about her findings during her visit
there between 1967 and 1968. Blu argues that the political history of the Lumbee Indians was
greatly affected by the relationships between them and non Indians as well as each other s
perceptions of one another. The fourth chapter focuses on the Black Indian coalition that was

She points out that unity for Blacks meant brotherhood and meant against the Whites who threaten

chapter by explaining that Blacks and Indians worked politely together within the coalition and
that although the Blacks had slight feelings that the Indians weren t so polite, they knew their

Baton Rouge University Case Study
Researched Argument Eager students flood unto LSU campus for the fall 2017 semester, and
with the TOPS program being completely funded, that number has increased compared to
previous semesters. Anxious families say their good byes and leave their children in the hope
that they will have a successful and safe semester. For two of these families this will be their last
time seeing and spending time with their children. Just last month two LSU students lost their life,
Maxwell Gruver who was a victim of hazing and Michael Nickelotte who was a victim of suicide.
Their deaths are a grim reminder that there are several dangers LSU students face at the Baton
Rouge campus. As mentioned before these were LSU students, and as LSU students... Show more

the LSU Parade Ground to celebrate being a part of the LSU community (LSU Campus Life) . It

great emphasis on their top ranking sports teams and a sense of pride to be an LSU student. If the
university is responsible for gathering such a large students body then how can the blame for a
lapse in campus security not fall on them.
First and foremost, the university is responsible for providing higher education, but for many cases
that is where their responsibility ends. LSU employs a large police department, which Operates 24
hours a day and employs 55 commissioned police officers along with 16 non sworn support staff
(2016 Annual Security and Fire Report 6) . They also employ many student health originations that
are dedicated to preventing criminal activity and supporting students who are victims in the Baton
Rouge community. Even with these security measures, LSU cannot foresee ever possible instance
or prevent them from happening. It is not possible for criminal activity to be prevented completely
on and around the university. With this being said LSU security has not been making a significant
impact on the university crime rates for several years.
Statistically LSU has been considered one of the most dangerous college campuses in Louisiana for
a long time. When

Democracy is defined as a form of government that is ruled by the people. That is, rather than a
single or a small group of leaders, democracy obligates the citizens who are affected by the law to
collectively create the law through active participation. The United States is a nation that prides
itself as a democracy, built on rule by the people via elected representatives. However, the electoral
college system and other institutions within the electoral process actually inhibit many democratic
values. This, paired with remarkably low voter turnout rates, leaves political decisions to be made
by those in power rather than the people. To overcome this, it is necessary to go beyond electionsas
the central form of political participation. Likewise,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doughty s Participatory Democracy Beyond Classical Liberalism directly confronts major problems
with American politics and proposes a specific method to realistically overcome them. Doughty
explains that voter apathy, voter ignorance, neoliberalism, and inverted totalitarianism ( a system
where corporations have corrupted and subverted democracy and where economics trumps politics
) are each underlying reasons for the lack of participation in the United States theoretical
democracy. As a result, American politics plays out to be a two party system, which
consequently limits the voice of the people. In response, Doughty presents what he calls
proportional representation, a multi party system that the United States ought to adopt to become
true democracy: This process respects neither the integrity of voters who are forced to vote for
someone they actually oppose, nor the principle of democracy which is intended to produce
results that accurately reflect citizens choices. Put simply, Doughty believes that a system that
really only values two opinions Democrat and Republican is not an accurate representation the
people. He believes that the only way to truly empower the public is to match the proportion of
representatives of a given party to the percentage of people who vote for that party. For example,
if 30 percent of the public vote for the Green party, then 30 percent of the seats in Congress

those classified in a certain category is well illustrated through the librarian who, when asked if
Peter did anything to her, answers He didn t do anything, but he made me think that he is going to
do something bad to me. So are you going to protect us? (52:43) Peter didn t do anything; however,
the librarian by witnessing his abnormal behavior and finding out about his schizophreniaadapts her
experience to something that could have been dangerous. Similar to how Hacking expects
classificatory looping to work on those classified. She had an incomplete perception of the events
and took his actions to be part of his irrationality, instead of Peter s attempt to find his daughter and
stop the radio noises in his head.
Throughout the movie, we see Peter as this schizophrenic doing irrational things like cutting his
head and nail. Peter barely talks so the audience can only perceive him through these irrational
actions. With this, the audience is left to interpret the parallel killings as Peter s work. It is only
when Peter is with his daughter that he talks freely about his delusions and the audience starts
seeing Peter as a rational human. (62:34) It is during his interaction with Nicole that there are no
background noises, irrational behavior or delusions. The audience sees only an awkward father
trying to connect with his daughter. It is during this moment that the audience starts seeing Peter as
a human, suffering with Schizophrenia and the pain of separation between him

Organizational Performance Of The Amc
Prior to the arrival of Andy Falender, there were three prominent problems plaguing the
organizational performance of the AMC. These problems consisted of: 1) the decentralization of
decision making to the local chapters, 2) the financial stability of the organization, and 3) the
growth of the organization. These problems presented themselves as troublesome for the
organization, hindering its ability to perform accordingly. Looking first at the problemof
decentralization of the decision making process, the organization was based in Boston where both
club and council meetings were held; however, as the AMC grew, there was an increase in the
formation of local chapters extending from New York, to Maine. While these chapters produced...

Despite the benefits of having organizational goals, the concept in itself includes complications.
Rianey (2014) suggests that the complications include that goals are always multiple. Due to the
number of goals an organization may have, research indicates that differing goals is quite common
amongst organizations. In the AMC s case, the separation between the national and individual
chapters have created the appearance that the organization as a whole has a number of goals,
although more likely than not these goals are more associated with an individual chapter. Rainy
(2014) argues that these differing goals often times create goal conflicts within an organization,
leading to organizational ineffectiveness. With this in mind, it is quite clear to see the ways that the
organization can be impacted by the multitude of organizational goals impacting the ability of the
organization to be impactful.
The second problem plaguing the AMC was their inability to remain financially stable. Unlike the
financial growth and stability the individual chapters were receiving, the national organization
faced significant financial problems [which resulted] in a major projected budget deficit. To
attempt to solve this problem, the AMC resorted to taking out substantial loans , but had cash flow
problems [that] were leading to frequent delays in paying bills when

Notre Dame Admission Essay Sample
Two years ago, when I was faced with the difficult task of choosing a college, I turned to my family

weigh my options thoughtfully and considerately. Talking to them individually about their alma

convinced me to follow in their footsteps: each passionately emphasized the unique opportunities
available to them at Notre Dame, opportunities which elevated the school s role beyond that of

work among some of the most talented people in the field. Considering Donald Trump s ambitious

The “rightness” of Native American boarding school Essay
In the 1870s, the U.S. government enacted a policy of assimilation of Native Americans, to
Americanize them. Their goal was to turn them into white men. Schools were an important part of
facilitating their goal. In 1879, Richard Henry Pratt founded the Carlisle Indian School. It was the
first school in which Native American children were culturally exposed to American ideology. The
idea for the boarding school first came through treatment of Cheyenne warriors. In the 1860s,
Americans were in the midst of a major western migration. Settlers were moving into the western
region, pushing natives off lands, and in some cases, killing livestock. Warriors then took revenge
on settlers and soldiers. General Sherman called for the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pratt then turned his attention to native children. He saw the example of the Hampton Institute for
Negroes, which taught children industrial skills. He concluded that to transform natives, one had to
start with the children. In 1879, the government consented to Pratt s request. He went to Dakota
Territory to find students for his new Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania. Pratt determined the
only way to change them was assimilation through total immersion. The school was established in
an abandoned army post. The children wore military uniforms and cut their hair. In the first few
years, the children suffered epidemics of cholera, influenza, and tuberculosis. As a result, they made
a cemetery on the school.
Lack of cultural diversity
Ethnocentrism
Social workers strive to keep the uniqueness of individuals and communities. The preservation of
diversity honors the distinctiveness of individuals and communities. Boarding schools were
genocidal to the cultural structure of Native Americans. They were forced to assimilate to the
image of the white man: It disjointed family structure, dishonored their cultural differences and
language. Children placed in these schools were deprived of learning their heritage. Pratt s goal of
humanizing Native Americans is the basis of ethnocentrism. Pratt like many Americans during this
time believed American culture was the only and right way of life. Although most cultures have,

Omniscient Narrator
It is a 3rd person narrator, which means that the narrator describes the story s people as he or she.
It is an omniscient 3rd person narrator as you can see when the narrator says She passed on her
way, thinking: He s in love. This quotation illustrates why it is an omniscient narrator, because it
highlights that the narratorknows a person s feelings and thoughts. The fact that it is an omniscient
narrator gives the reader the ability to realize that the main characterhas a spilt personality. The
narrator describes how peo ple look at the main character s facade, but when you can see his
thoughts you know how he really is. The narrator is all things considered a very describing
narrator as you can see when he uses the entire first page on just describing how lovely New York
is. The narrator is trustworthy because he knows anything and he narrates the story with a neutral
point of view. It makes him more reliable because he just wants to narrate a story.
As a result this gives us the capacity to understand and relate to the characters. It pro vides us the
knowledge about the characters that we else would have missed. So saying it makes it easier for us
to understand the story.

comfortless atmosphere. And as the weather turns darker, so does the young

Theme Of Death In Edgar Allan Poe Death
Death in Edgar Allan Poe s short stories
Death is one of the well known themes of Edgar Allan Poe s art, in which the author captures the
physical signs, decomposition, the sensation of feeling buried alive, the reanimation of the death or
the mourning. Most of the works of Edgar Allan Poe have a dark atmosphere, full of mystery. These
works illustrate the dramatic events, explores the dark side of human relationships and offer
visions of the sublime. The works explore the tragedy that brings one to the edge of madness
where nothing seems real, the place where the soul disintegrates, leaving only the essence of a life

Although he does possess quite a bit of bigotry that boarders on the line of prejudice when it
comes to African Americans he recognizes that they are suffering from racism and he sympathizes

poverty because he was once there and knows with hard work, like he has done, you can pull
yourself up by the bootstraps and make something better with your life.
Riis covers many aspects of the poverty that has stricken the tenement lodgers but when talking

Food Safety Inspection Service Ethics
Traditional homestyle foods have completely changed. From growing our own crops and taking
the time to properly cook our own food, to buying processed foods at shopping markets or simply
going out to eat at fast food drive thru s. It is safe to say that us humans used to eat healthy, but as
time has passed we have let foodindustries manipulate and complicate our minds with marketing
and food labels. Especially when regarding meat. We still seem to be mostly concerned about the
intake of meat consumption while not even hesitating to question where exactly it came from or
if it is even safe enough for us to consume. Food recalls and food inspections are great steps to
ensuring one s better health, but regulations should really be of our concern. It should be aware
that the USDA s Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) has regulated meat and poultry processing
for over a century now. The reason for doing so is to prevent chemicals, harmful substances, and
pathogens from entering our daily food products.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Levy, M.D., who has studied the subject for years, estimates that there are 15 17 million pounds of

antibiotics in food animals can pose a health risk to humans. For example, If a group of animals is

The different styles of parenting have negative and positive effects on their children. This quote
by Tamica Miller claims how parents different styles can affect many children s lives because the

The Walking Dead Season One Game
About four years ago, I started watching the Walking Dead to impress a guy that I liked. Luckily,
I dropped the boy and started avidly watching the show without his influence. Presently, I still
watch the series religiously and have not heard from said boy in years. It s probably for the best.
While I have dedicated a plethora of my time to watching the televisionshow, I had hardly
immersed my self in the other mediums of the story. I had never picked up a comic that the show
was based off of and did not know that a gamehad been released until I played the Wolf Among Us,
another game from Telltale Games based off of a comic series. Since I was a huge fan of video
games in general, I decided to playan episode of the Walking Dead season one game. Overall, I
was impressed with the game and the storyline. I enjoyed the comic like graphics of the game; it
made me want to read the actual comics, even though I am by no means an avid comic book

Consider the following preemptive priority scheduling algorithm based on dynamically changing
priorities. Larger priority numbers indicate higher priority (e.g., priority 3 is higher priority than
priority 1; priority 0 is higher priority than priority 1, etc.). When a process is waiting for the CPU
in the ready queue, its priority changes at the rate of per unit of time; when it is running, its
priority changes at the rate of per unit of time. All processes are assigned priority 0 when they enter
the ready queue. Answer the following questions:
(a) What is the scheduling algorithm that results when 0? Explain.
(b) What is the scheduling algorithm that results when 0? Explain.
Somebody proposed a CPU scheduling algorithm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For calculating the CPU time of a process in the recent past, a time window of size t is
maintained and the recent CPU time used by a process at time T is calculated as the sum of the
CPU times used by the process between time T and T t. It is argued that this particular scheduling
algorithm (a) will favor I/O bound processes, and (b) will not permanently starve CPU bound
processes. Do you agree/disagree with (a) and (b)? Explain.
Q.3 [10 marks] Consider a variant of the round robin (RR) scheduling algorithm in which the entries
in the ready queue are pointers to the Process Control Blocks (PCBs), rather than the PCBs. A
malicious user wants to take advantage and somehow, through a security loophole in the system,
manages to put two pointers to the PCB of his/her process with the intention that it can run twice as
much. Explain what serious consequence(s) it could have if the (malicious) intention goes
undetected by the OS.

Contrasts of Fortunato and Montresor
Contrasts of Fortunato and Montresor Edgar Allan Poe s short stories always attract our attention
by the images of murders, terrors, madmen, and mysteries. The Cast of Amontillado is Poe s
famous short story, which presents us a cold blooded murder and two persons with personality
flaws. This essay will make a contrast between the two characters by analyzing their characteristics
and their psychological changes as the plot develops in order to understand the theme of this story.
First, Fortunato and Montresor are different on their dress, educational backgrounds and
personalities. Their dress reveals their distinct features. Fortunato dresses himself as a clown: The

He is surprised to find the real Amontillado, but his astonishment does not last long. He is really
frightened by Montresor s behavior. First, he regains his consciousness completely and gives a
low moaning cry . When he finds out that Montresor intends to kill me, he is terrified and bursts
out a succession of loud and shrill screams . Fortunato is so terrified, helpless and desperate that
he has a mental breakdown and becomes insane. As for Montresor, he acts calmly from
beginning to end. First, he wants to take revenge on Fortunato and plots it carefully in order to
avoid the punishment. He knows his enemy very well, from Fortunato s interests to his
weakness, so he can easily kill Fortunato. During the process of murder, he is really calm and
controlled. Step by step, he lures Fortunato to his gloomy cellar and kills Fortunato. He works in a
place filled with bones and feels no terror. He even stops his labour just to hear Fortunato s cry with
more satisfaction . Though for a brief moment [he] hesitated, [he] trembled , he does not tremble for
guilt but for the worry that Fortunato may escape. After Montresor take the revenge successfully, he
feels satisfied and pleasant. The differences on their psychological changes create a terrified
atmosphere which makes readers suffocate. In conclusion, Poe characterizes Fortunato and
Montresor as contrasts by describing their dress, educational background, personalities and their
psychological changes.

A Brazilian Historical Film By Carlos Diegues
Quilombo is a Brazilian historical film by Carlos Diegues. Diegues generates a notion of what the
Palmares people have experienced as runaway slaves during the 17th century in Brazil and settling
down with others that have gone through the same complications. Thereafter, the audience is
introduced to the optimistic and promising character, Ganga Zumba, as an influential leader of the
Palmares. Zumba, who tried to guide his people to freedom, was granted the leadershiprole by the
previous ruler, Acotirene. While leaders like Ganga Zumba have extraordinary ambitions to guide
the Palmares, those ambitions can essentially result in sacrifice that manifests into beneficial
endings, allowing the people of Palmares to discover other ways out of the troubles that Zumba
has constructed by the help of the next leader, Zumbi. The film depicts a time period where there
was a great amount of [...] slave resistance in Brazil, as stated in the Dictionary of Caribbean and
Afro Latin American Biography translated by Franklin W. Knight and Henry Louis Gates. The
film revolves around a group of runaway slaves, lead by Abiola, who have rebelled against the
Portuguese and Dutch and had left the mountain in order to escape from the consequences. The first
scene starts off with settled runaway slaves who have established their own community and
traveled their way to into the Palmares. The director does this because he wants the viewers to
understand that the slaves wanted to go to the land

Impact Of Manufacturing On Manufacturing And Developing...
Impact of manufacturing 4.0 Manufacturing 4.0 is expected to accelerate in the next decade
transforming how manufacturing is done currently. It will focus on value chains rather than just
mass production, and hence make production processes more interconnected, flexible and cost

developing nations will be: Developed countries, with Germany and USA in particular, which are at
the forefront of this revolution will aim to boost productivity and offset high labor costs by

With the gradual advent of manufacturing 4.0 however, challenges will continue to increase for
emerging economies. Over the last few decades, these countries have exploited their cheap labor
and natural resources to get global companies to manufacture on their land. However, with
intelligent and smart machines, the industry will require fewer, but more qualified workers to
operate on manufacturing lines. Lack of skilled workers in these countries will ultimately drive
jobs back to the developed nations like the US, UK and Germany. Businesses and institutions
will need to analyze where they could compete in a situation where previous advantages are
gradually going away. Another concern is jobs. Advanced manufacturing will require a highly
skilled worker to deal with robots, which in the years to come, will be able to make their own
decisions. The workers will need to be highly proficient at soft skills, critical thinking and even
technical skills. In order to cope up with these requirements, a complete revamp of the educational
syllabus will be required. Challenges associated with manufacturing 4.0 1. Data Integration The
focus on waste reduction and simultaneous birth of techniques like lean and six sigma have
exponentially increased the importance of data collection and analysis. According to Mr. Drucker,

FT-Ir Advantages
The measured signal is digitized and sent to the computer where the Fourier transformation takes
place. The final infrared spectrum is then presented to the user for interpretation. A background
spectrum must also be measured with no sample in the beam. This can be compared to the
measurement with the sample in the beam to determine the percent transmittance. This technique
results in a spectrum which has all of the instrumental characteristics removed [195]. Some of the
major advantages of FT IR over the dispersive technique include: Speed: Because all of the
frequencies are measured simultaneously, most measurements by FT IR are made in a matter of
seconds rather than several minutes. This is referred to as the Felgett Advantage. Sensitivity: The
detectors employed are much more sensitive. The optical throughput is much higher (referred to as
the Jacquinot Advantage) results in lower noise levels and the fast scans. Mechanical Simplicity:
The moving mirror in the interferometer is the only continuously moving part in the instrument.
Internally Calibrated: These instruments employ a helium neon laser as an internal wavelength
calibration standard (referred to as the Connes Advantage). These instruments are self calibrating
and never need to be calibrated by the user. These advantages make extremely accurate

Schiele Vs Kirchner
In the 20th century, Expressionism was booming and artists around the world were expressing
themselves like the world had never seen before. Expressionism is a manner of painting, drawing,
sculpting, etc., in which forms derived from nature are distorted or exaggerated and colors are
intensified for emotive or expressive purposes (Dictionary.com). Artists like Egon Schiele, the artist
of Reclining Woman with Black Stockings, and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, the artists of Woman

they utilized different techniques to create contrasting levels of intimacy. These techniques are

in Scheele s painting, she is sprawled out in a way that would be deemed rather provocative to
the culture of the time period. She is also wearing was seems to be a thin silk dress, black

The neural epidural junction is where the psychological, physiological and somatic systems
intersect. These systems all give access to my personal identity. In addition, the three systems
redirect thoughts and feelings on how I associate with systems and through the colors, the
subconscious and a compassionate self is revealed by the following. I created a grouping of
three large and small figureheads, and an umbrella like sky (the visor). These figureheads enable
viewers to sieve their thoughts and feelings as I do. Specifically, sharing the mental anxiety
through shock encounters (concrete figurehead); memories of the Holocaust and traumatic
circumstances. Also, the physiological response captured in an array of colors (glass figurehead)
which, convey emotional responses. In addition, even though, I am a down to earth person, the
third figurehead communicates that I also crumble like the soil (clay figurehead). The smaller
figures mounted on the visor above the clay figurehead intends to give a whimsical, floating
feeling to emphasize the warmth related to the feelings of compassion I hold. It is also through
the colors in all the figureheads, the visor and the illumination with LED lights, and crackling
effect that I project whom I am. Further, by having a visor emulate a stained glass, I created an
illusion that viewers can embrace seeing society as tainted, as I do. The three figureheads work
like fitting a puzzle together and addressing caring. The concrete head is

Captain Beatty Character Analysis
Anyone who has read the book Fahrenheit 451 will immediately remember the infamous Captain
Beatty. For people who have not read the book, or do not remember Captain Beatty, he is the fire
chief who has a very controversial role in the book. He starts out looking like the antagonist of the
story but then towards the end of the book one could wonder if he was the alter egoof Montag, for
example, he shows the other way the story of Montag could have gone instead of him ending up
with Granger s group helping re educate the world one book at a time.
In the beginning, Beatty seems like the typical fireman in that time, against books, seems to have

The exact quote Beatty says There is no terror, Cassius, in your threats, for I am arm d so strong
in honesty that they pass me as an idle wind, which I respect not! (119) This shows that even
Beatty was reading books for quite some time. This is where the similarity between Montag and
Beatty ends, and where their stories take different routes. At this point, Montag stood up for what
he believed in and risked his life. This could have gone another way, Beatty s way, Montag could
have sucked it up and stayed a fireman and lived a lie like Beatty had.
Shortly after that quote, Montag realized that Beatty wanted to die, on page 122, and he was
wondering why. In class, we think that Beatty wanted to die because he did not want to have to
carry the burden of reading when it is against the law or without being able to share it with
everyone and he thought that the only way for him to get rid of that burden was to die. Montag
could have thought that and committed suicide like Beatty did but since we established Beatty was
Montag s alter ego he did not do that and he went to find Granger s group instead.
In conclusion, Beatty can be depicted as both an antagonist and as Montag s alter ego/ other half
because he was living a very similar life to Montag such as being a fire chief, reading books, being
bombarded with questions etc, until he took a different road at the end, which seemed like a safer
road because he still had his job and a good

Urban Planning Models
Talen has been trying hard to build them a theory and has written many articles and books on the
subject. But their lack of theory leads to a malleability within New Urbanism, that helps suspend
their stated principles of diversity and affordability when they are not feasible, and perpetuates a
dogma about the effects of the built environment.
Similar to urban planners of the past new urbanist believe in their own expertise. June Thomas
writes about the failures of different urban planning models to include justice but still believes in
their intentions and role in building the best community. Thomas (2005) writes, about the tenacity
of urban planners. She states, in spite of false steps and inadequate tools, in spite of political
turmoil and social upheaval, local efforts continued. At no time during this half century did such
efforts stop, although sometimes they slowed and became practically invisible. Someone was
always trying to plan and develop a better city, and someone always will, for the foreseeable future
(Thomas, 2005: 221)
Even as Thomas writes about the failures of urban planning to act justly in a racist society she
still centers the role of professionals to create a better city. It may be true that urban planning
will always seek to build a better place for people to live. However, the real question is who will
that city be for and whose interests will it serve.

emotional. An older woman trying to deliver a baby may also have more difficulty with the
delivery depending on how healthy and in shape she is. That may also affect the labor process as
well and how fast it will go. Although, the most common birth defect in children with mothers of an
advanced maternal age is Down syndrome. Down syndrome occurs from a chromosomal defect.
The mother must also be motivated to keep herself healthy in good shape during and before the
pregnancy (if planning to get pregnant). The mother must want to maintain a good health status
in order to make the pregnancy a successful one, no matter the age. She must follow all the
doctor s orders and go to her regular check ups as needed. Usually, by not following the doctor s
orders is where abnormalities and defects can occur. The doctors make the mother aware of the
consequences that can happen when they don t do what is asked of them during the pregnancy and
what can happen if they do the complete opposite. The complete opposite would be eating bad, not
caring about their health status at all, not drinking enough water or drinking an excessive amount
of sugary or alcoholic beverages, smoking, using drugs, not taking the pre natal vitamins, and not
exercising as much as they could be. All of these things can result in

Rebecca Solnit s In The Day Of The Postman
Rebecca Solnit s In the Day of The Postman alludes to a simpler era. Solnit reminisces upon a
leisurely time prior to 1995, in which time itself was plentiful, and each day was decipherable and
measured in austere events. This once upon a time was free of the complex technologies that now
occupy the majority of our time. Solnit suggests that the plethora of information found via
technology and the expansion of communication methods since 1995 has broken up time,
conceived a disease of perpetual business and, ultimately, led to the collapse of personal level
interactions. In the fairy tale world of pre 1995 Solnit describes a metronomic day where ...time
had rhythm, and it had room for you to do one thing at a time... (32). Solnit illustrates

Essay on The Matrix
The Matrix The Matrix has been doing remarkably well in sales since its release in the cinema
last summer and its recent video releases. This is largely due to stylish advertising techniques and
word of mouth. The Matrix has been approved by critics who enjoy the film and also the ones who
dislike the theme. Among young viewers, it has already achieved great status. So what else is the
film about? Firstly the film copies the theme from many popular films that came before it, and
involves intelligent science fiction, a large chunk of action and breathtaking special effects, The
Matrixis a carbon copy of films like The Terminator and Star Wars. But the greatest influence on
The Matrix is the movie The Dark City. A comparable

Nothing more . This is very much like the real world where it is up to you to be part of a religion
or not. Without a religion or set of rules people find they are lost and have no path to follow. It is
therefore helpful to have a god or figurehead who is either present or invisible, to offer advice or
paths to follow. In the Matrix s case Neo the hero figure, is unsure if he is the one who can save
everyone, so he asks his own god (Oracle). In The Matrix Neo discovers that he has the power
within himself to decide how he lives his life and what happens in it. In his role, the savior of
mankind, these powers within him come from his own mind not some other object or being. This
is where reality comes in and we all know that no normal human being can posses these powers, but
Neo s teacher (Morpheus) tells him that these powers are within him if only he uses his mind. His
implies that everything is possible if only we put our minds to it. Going back to Neo s meeting
with the Oracle, she told Neo he was not the one. This was because he had not totally put his
mind to it and she new that he was not yet fully committed. She knew that he had it in him to
become a leader but he was not yet ready to become one. This is very much like religion where
everyone is equal and they all can do whatever they put their mind to if they are dedicated. When
Morpheus is captured by the enemy, Neo comes to his

Text Analytics And Natural Language Processing
IV. SENTIMENT ANALYSIS A. The Sentiment analysis process i) Collection of data ii)
Preparation of the text iii) Detecting the sentiments iv) Classifying the sentiment v) Output i)
Collection of data: the first step in sentiment analysis involves collection of data from user. These
data are disorganized, expressed in different ways by using different vocabularies, slangs, context
of writing etc. Manual analysis is almost impossible. Therefore, text analytics and natural language
processing are used to extract and classify[11]. ii) Preparation of the text : This step involves
cleaning of the extracted data before analyzing it. Here non textual and irrelevant content for the
analysis are identified and discarded iii) Detecting the sentiments: All the extracted sentences of the
views and opinions are studied. From this sentences with subjective expressions which involves
opinions, beliefs and view are retained back whereas sentences with objective communication i.e
facts, factual information are discarded iv) Classifying the sentiment: Here, subjective sentences
are classified as positive, negative, or good, bad or like, dislike[1] v) Output: The main objective of
sentiment analysis is to convert unstructured text into meaningful data. When the analysis is
finished, the text results are displayed on graphs in the form of pie chart, bar chart and line graphs.
Also time can be analyzed and can be graphically displayed constructing a sentiment time line with

Chromium which is a chemical element ,a metal,is toxic pollutant .Nowdays these are found to be
present in soils due to many human activities. It affects plant system and microorganisms that are
present in soil as well.Phytoremediation has emerged as a process to minimize or eliminate
chromium from chromium stressed soils, but this process takes long time.So when plant growth

Order Theory Vs Power-Conflict Theories
Question 6: According to the order theory, there are patterns of inclusion between racial and ethnic
groups when they are incorporated into a dominant society. By this definition, intergroup contact
that integrates through conformity to a dominant group and by cultural pluralism can be
categorized under order theories. When intergroup contact begins as a social hierarchy, the
interaction between the immigrating and native group can be modified by the new coming group
conforming to the will of the dominant. In this way, the incoming group will gain acceptance and
equality by being subordinate to the dominant group. Another possible adaptation pattern that is
seen as an order theory is that of cultural pluralism. In cultural pluralism, both... Show more content

When someone migrates voluntarily, there is no doubt that it is a choice and these individuals
are willing to dive into a new culture, new language, new customs, etc. however they are also
willing to adapt to any changes that they need to phase. Those who migrate voluntarily are likely
to resettle themselves because of push and pull factors and due to this they are willing to
overcome any obstacle even if it is leaving their culture behind and adapting to a new way of life.
For example, many immigrant who come to the United States had to leave behind their way of life
and immediately get a hold of the english language, as time progresses they are likely to pick up
customs as well, whether it is conscious or not, immigrants being to pick up the culture of their new
country. When someone migrates voluntarily they are likely to be more open to the changes they
have to encounter, that is why such foreigners could be open to changes that eventually leads them

Selecting The Appropriate Research Methods
3. Methodology When selecting the appropriate research methods, it was important for me to
carefully consider the approaches that would best fit my research in order to reach meaningful
conclusions. I decided to choose approaches that I see fit around my research topic and would
ensure I achieve the results to come out of my research. As (Walker, 1985, p.46) advocates that Just
as recipes are not simply things that are done to food, but become concepts within which method
and substance are compounded. Methods in research can become an intrinsic part of the project.
The methods we choose are, in this sense, there to be tested, just as much as the substantive
hypothesis . This claims that the methods that are chosen to embark on an area of research are a
vital part of the project and need to be taken into account just as much as the question that the
methods are used to answer it. Therefore, the two approaches I chose to shape my research were a
case studyand appreciative inquiry to allow me to collect the data I had selected which was the
following; questionnaires, interviews and observations.
3.1 Case Study
I have chosen to approach my research by using a case study approach which builds up a rich
picture of a case using different kinds of data collection and gathering the views, perceptions and
ideas of diverse individuals relating to the case. (Yin, 2009, p.15) states The case study method is
most likely to be appropriate for how and why questions . This supports

The Cause Of The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Incident
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Incident was a tragic event that occured due to poor safety
precautions. It occured in New York City on March 25, 1911 on the eighth and ninth floors of
the Asch building and it is the deadliest industrial disaster of that city and it also considered one
of the deadliest in US History. The factory normally employed about 500 workers, mostly young
immigrant women, who worked nine hours a day on weekdays plus seven hours on Saturdays
earning 2 dollars for a 14 hour work day. Several events led up to the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory
Incident. Many workers were demanding shorter hours, better pay, and safer shops, so they
formed a labor union. However, the owners did not want to succeed to the labor union s pleads
and demands because they were terrified that unions would diminish their authority over the
workplace. Despite the owners unwillingness, many of them succeeded to the labor unions
demands because there was a lot of strikes in companies and they needed their workers for the
upcoming busy work season. However, the owners of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory: Max
Blanck and Isaac Harris, did not want to succeed to those pleads because their profits were
declining and they did not have enough resources to please the workers demands. The company
sales were declining because their style of clothing was antiquated and it could not keep up with
the new extravagant fashion trends. There was also a lot of competition from the 500 blouse makers

The Female Heroine In The 1970 s
Until the 1970 s, female heroines were almost unheard of in movies or television shows. Then,
the science fiction genre gained popularity and Star Wars followed. Men and women alike were
interested in the films and story. Princess Leia was not the generic damsel in distress, but instead
was a quick thinking soldier for the rebel forces. Soon, fans and authors began to fill in the gaps
before, between, and after the movies. Female fans went from having just Princess Leia and a few
female side characters to many characters in the written expanded universe. During this time, the
prequel movies were announced, and many fans were at first excited and then disappointed. The
newer movies did not live up to the original trilogy. Also, female fans were more disappointed to
receive PadmГЁ while the main heroes were again male characters. Finally, Star Wars Episode VII,
later known as The Force Awakens, was announced.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were many books and comics in the New Republic Era of the expanded universe that

coming back for more stories and even passing them on to friends looking for representation in an
era where science fiction was becoming a hugely popular genre. While the prequels were lacking
in female representation, they lacked in general according to fans and reviews with even Rotten
Tomatoes rating Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace at 55% rotten, the lowest rated of all
three new movies. Despite the fact that Rotten Tomatoes gave a benevolent rating, even if it was
lower, a quick skim through the comments show the fans feelings on the movie, few of which are

Essay On The Elizabethan Era
Elizabethan Era Then and now
Elizabethan Era is one of many memorable and important events in England. It got its name from
Queen Elizabeth, the queen who ruled that era. The Elizabethan age is an era that inspired national
pride through classical ideals, poetry, literature, and more. There are three aspects the states that the

During this period your life is determined by your gender or your wealth. Their clothing varied
among their social classes, with that being said a person who wears old or lame clothes would
be in the lower class such as farmers and the people who wear nice or extravagant clothes would
be in the higher class such as nobles. Today people can wear anything that they want to wear; a
poor person can have stylish clothes and the rich could wear old or dirty clothes. Their
entertainment was extremely important to the people who lived in the Elizabethan era.
Elizabethan entertainment was popular when there was something to celebrate and it often
occurred nightly, but there were different types of entertainment among the classes in England.
Rich would do things which the poor couldn t do or afford such as watch plays, go hunting,
jousts among knights, and more. The poor or the middle class would simply just listen to
travelling musicians and actors or to watch public plays. Today rich could only have
entertainment, because the poor has to work to feed themselves and has no spare money to do
such lavish things such as watching movies, going to a basketball game, or go to a concert.
During this period women were considered inferior to men and were not allowed to have a job,
this required men to become the sole source of the family income and to represent it. They would
usually work their whole life to provide for their family and to

  • 2. Vladimir Nabokov and Lolita A man of many talents, Vladimir Nabokov is known not only for his controversial work Lolita, he was also an avid lepidopterist in particular, butterflies. There is no doubt that when penning Lolita s character, Nabokov imprinted several butterfly characteristics on her. This essay however does not seek to investigate the parallels between Lolitaand the metamorphosis of a butterfly. Rather, it takes the road less travelled and examines the parallels between Nabokov and Humbert Humbert, not as a pervert, but as a scientist. Nabokov s interest in butterflies stemmed from a childhood obsession as he recalls chasing butterflies (Time) in Switzerland in 1964. While most people relinquishes their childhood hobbies, Nabokov pursued his interest in lepidopterology throughout his adult life where his passion for butterflies lead him to become a specialist in lepidopterist. As a scientist, Nabokov was acquainted to the clinical ways of scienceexperiments and observations. While this is greatly illustrated in Humbert s interaction with Lolita in both cases, the former assumes the role of the scientist and the later the object of investigation Humbert s analytical nature is also reflected in relation to other characters and incidents including himself as Nabokov draws from his scientific persona in crafting Humbert s character. In both cases, the former assumes the role of the scientist and the later the object of investigation. Scientists have to approach an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Did John Locke Influence Society Who gave us new ways of thinking and played a role in the foundation of our country? There are many people that influenced our country and gave new ways of thinking, but there are a few unexpected players that most do not acknowledge and appreciate. The Enlightenment was a period in time from 1685 1815, where there was a drastic change in people s views towards subjects such as philosophy, politics and science. It was an extension of the progress of the Reformation and the Renaissance. It did this by continuing to extinguish the medieval perspectives towards life which were that the church ruled over every aspect of life and people were restricted. New ways of thinking came into play such as equality, logic, and freedom from the church,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John Locke comparatively had more of a positive spin on things than Hobbes. Locke proposed the thought that all people were born with natural rights, these natural rights being life, liberty, and property. The government should agree to serve the people and make sure that they would be provided with these rights. Locke urged if these rights had not been met by the government, the people had the right to rebel and overthrow the government. Locke s theory got a lot of attention because as he said in his book Second Treatise of Government that New opinions are always suspected, and usually opposed, without any reason but because they are not common. He feels that government was unnecessary because in his perspective, everyone was born with a clean slate and that if someone was evil, it was the world that made them evil they were not born that way. John Locke s views influenced famous documents, including the Declaration of Independence. In the Declaration of Independence it includes Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, which is based on John Locke s interpretation of life that humans were all born as almost a blank page with no identity and the world and their lives create their interests, intentions and everyone was given the power to the basic rights of ... Baton Rouge University Case Study Researched Argument Eager students flood unto LSU campus for the fall 2017 semester, and with the TOPS program being completely funded, that number has increased compared to previous semesters. Anxious families say their good byes and leave their children in the hope that they will have a successful and safe semester. For two of these families this will be their last time seeing and spending time with their children. Just last month two LSU students lost their life, Maxwell Gruver who was a victim of hazing and Michael Nickelotte who was a victim of suicide. If the university is responsible for gathering such a large students body then how can the blame for a lapse in campus security not fall on them. First and foremost, the university is responsible for providing higher education, but for many cases that is where their responsibility ends. LSU employs a large police department, which Operates 24 hours a day and employs 55 commissioned police officers along with 16 non sworn support staff (2016 Annual Security and Fire Report 6) . They also employ many student health originations that are dedicated to preventing criminal activity and supporting students who are victims in the Baton Rouge community. Even with these security measures, LSU cannot foresee ever possible instance or prevent them from happening. • 6. John Dewey Democracy is defined as a form of government that is ruled by the people. That is, rather than a single or a small group of leaders, democracy obligates the citizens who are affected by the law to collectively create the law through active participation. The United States is a nation that prides itself as a democracy, built on rule by the people via elected representatives. However, the electoral college system and other institutions within the electoral process actually inhibit many democratic values. This, paired with remarkably low voter turnout rates, leaves political decisions to be made by those in power rather than the people. To overcome this, it is necessary to go beyond electionsas the central form of political participation. Likewise,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Doughty s Participatory Democracy Beyond Classical Liberalism directly confronts major problems with American politics and proposes a specific method to realistically overcome them. Doughty explains that voter apathy, voter ignorance, neoliberalism, and inverted totalitarianism ( a system where corporations have corrupted and subverted democracy and where economics trumps politics ) are each underlying reasons for the lack of participation in the United States theoretical democracy. As a result, American politics plays out to be a two party system, which consequently limits the voice of the people. In response, Doughty presents what he calls proportional representation, a multi party system that the United States ought to adopt to become true democracy: This process respects neither the integrity of voters who are forced to vote for someone they actually oppose, nor the principle of democracy which is intended to produce results that accurately reflect citizens choices. Put simply, Doughty believes that a system that really only values two opinions Democrat and Republican is not an accurate representation the people. He believes that the only way to truly empower the public is to match the proportion of representatives of a given party to the percentage of people who vote for that party. For example, if 30 percent of the public vote for the Green party, then 30 percent of the seats in Congress ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(52:43) Peter didn t do anything; however, the librarian by witnessing his abnormal behavior and finding out about his schizophreniaadapts her experience to something that could have been dangerous. Similar to how Hacking expects classificatory looping to work on those classified. Throughout the movie, we see Peter as this schizophrenic doing irrational things like cutting his head and nail. Peter barely talks so the audience can only perceive him through these irrational actions. With this, the audience is left to interpret the parallel killings as Peter s work. It is only when Peter is with his daughter that he talks freely about his delusions and the audience starts seeing Peter as a rational human. • 8. Organizational Performance Of The Amc Prior to the arrival of Andy Falender, there were three prominent problems plaguing the organizational performance of the AMC. These problems consisted of: 1) the decentralization of decision making to the local chapters, 2) the financial stability of the organization, and 3) the growth of the organization. These problems presented themselves as troublesome for the organization, hindering its ability to perform accordingly. Looking first at the problemof decentralization of the decision making process, the organization was based in Boston where both club and council meetings were held; however, as the AMC grew, there was an increase in the formation of local chapters extending from New York, to Maine. While these chapters produced... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the benefits of having organizational goals, the concept in itself includes complications. Rianey (2014) suggests that the complications include that goals are always multiple. Due to the number of goals an organization may have, research indicates that differing goals is quite common amongst organizations. In the AMC s case, the separation between the national and individual chapters have created the appearance that the organization as a whole has a number of goals, although more likely than not these goals are more associated with an individual chapter. Rainy (2014) argues that these differing goals often times create goal conflicts within an organization, leading to organizational ineffectiveness. With this in mind, it is quite clear to see the ways that the organization can be impacted by the multitude of organizational goals impacting the ability of the organization to be impactful. The second problem plaguing the AMC was their inability to remain financially stable. Unlike the financial growth and stability the individual chapters were receiving, the national organization faced significant financial problems [which resulted] in a major projected budget deficit. To attempt to solve this problem, the AMC resorted to taking out substantial loans , but had cash flow problems [that] were leading to frequent delays in paying bills when ... • 10. The “rightness” of Native American boarding school Essay In the 1870s, the U.S. government enacted a policy of assimilation of Native Americans, to Americanize them. Their goal was to turn them into white men. Schools were an important part of facilitating their goal. In 1879, Richard Henry Pratt founded the Carlisle Indian School. It was the first school in which Native American children were culturally exposed to American ideology. The idea for the boarding school first came through treatment of Cheyenne warriors. In the 1860s, Americans were in the midst of a major western migration. Settlers were moving into the western region, pushing natives off lands, and in some cases, killing livestock. Warriors then took revenge on settlers and soldiers. General Sherman called for the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pratt then turned his attention to native children. He saw the example of the Hampton Institute for Negroes, which taught children industrial skills. He concluded that to transform natives, one had to start with the children. In 1879, the government consented to Pratt s request. He went to Dakota Territory to find students for his new Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania. Pratt determined the only way to change them was assimilation through total immersion. The school was established in an abandoned army post. The children wore military uniforms and cut their hair. In the first few years, the children suffered epidemics of cholera, influenza, and tuberculosis. As a result, they made a cemetery on the school. Lack of cultural diversity Ethnocentrism Social workers strive to keep the uniqueness of individuals and communities. The preservation of diversity honors the distinctiveness of individuals and communities. Boarding schools were genocidal to the cultural structure of Native Americans. They were forced to assimilate to the image of the white man: It disjointed family structure, dishonored their cultural differences and language. Children placed in these schools were deprived of learning their heritage. Pratt s goal of humanizing Native Americans is the basis of ethnocentrism. For example, If a group of animals is treated with a certain antibiotic over time, the bacteria living in those animals will become resistant to that drug. Concern about the growing level of drug resistant bacteria has led to the banning of subtherapeutic use of antibiotics in meat animals in many countries in the European Union and Canada. • 19. The Walking Dead Season One Game About four years ago, I started watching the Walking Dead to impress a guy that I liked. Luckily, I dropped the boy and started avidly watching the show without his influence. Presently, I still watch the series religiously and have not heard from said boy in years. It s probably for the best. While I have dedicated a plethora of my time to watching the televisionshow, I had hardly immersed my self in the other mediums of the story. I had never picked up a comic that the show was based off of and did not know that a gamehad been released until I played the Wolf Among Us, another game from Telltale Games based off of a comic series. Since I was a huge fan of video games in general, I decided to playan episode of the Walking Dead season one game. Overall, I was impressed with the game and the storyline. I enjoyed the comic like graphics of the game; it made me want to read the actual comics, even though I am by no means an avid comic book reader. I also enjoyed the method in which they told the story. Instead of going with a linear plot, like a television series, they left most of the key decisions up to the user. In many situations, I was choosing actions that deeply effected the relationships I had with the people around me either in a negative or positive manner; also, it seemed I spent a lot of the time deciding between who lived and who died, which was just as nerve wracking as watching these decisions play out on the show. With the gradual advent of manufacturing 4.0 however, challenges will continue to increase for emerging economies. Over the last few decades, these countries have exploited their cheap labor and natural resources to get global companies to manufacture on their land. However, with intelligent and smart machines, the industry will require fewer, but more qualified workers to operate on manufacturing lines. Lack of skilled workers in these countries will ultimately drive jobs back to the developed nations like the US, UK and Germany. Businesses and institutions will need to analyze where they could compete in a situation where previous advantages are gradually going away. Another concern is jobs. Advanced manufacturing will require a highly skilled worker to deal with robots, which in the years to come, will be able to make their own decisions. The final infrared spectrum is then presented to the user for interpretation. A background spectrum must also be measured with no sample in the beam. This can be compared to the measurement with the sample in the beam to determine the percent transmittance. This technique results in a spectrum which has all of the instrumental characteristics removed [195]. Some of the major advantages of FT IR over the dispersive technique include: Speed: Because all of the frequencies are measured simultaneously, most measurements by FT IR are made in a matter of seconds rather than several minutes. This is referred to as the Felgett Advantage. Sensitivity: The detectors employed are much more sensitive. The optical throughput is much higher (referred to as the Jacquinot Advantage) results in lower noise levels and the fast scans. Fantasia also introduced stereophonic sound to theaters, an element not employed by other studios until more than a decade later. With the advent of World War II, the Disney Studio suspended nearly all commercial activity and concentrated on aiding the war effort with training films, goodwill tours, and designing of posters and armed forces insignia. Mickey Mouse played his part by appearing on insignia and posters urging national security and the purchase of war bonds. And, incredibly, the password of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Runs Girl Essay Redurm in the Beautiful Sky How far would you go to save a member of your family s life? Would you be willing to forget your beliefs, to risk everything to save a loved one? These were some of the questions that I was thinking during the short story Runs Girl by Chinelo Okparanta. The story of a young girl who becomes a runs girl, which is a Nigerian escort, to earn money to pay for her mother s medical treatment. I found the story to be interesting, which I believe to be the most challenging about short stories typically. An older woman trying to deliver a baby may also have more difficulty with the delivery depending on how healthy and in shape she is. That may also affect the labor process as well and how fast it will go. Although, the most common birth defect in children with mothers of an advanced maternal age is Down syndrome. Down syndrome occurs from a chromosomal defect. The mother must also be motivated to keep herself healthy in good shape during and before the pregnancy (if planning to get pregnant). The mother must want to maintain a good health status in order to make the pregnancy a successful one, no matter the age. She must follow all the doctor s orders and go to her regular check ups as needed. Usually, by not following the doctor s orders is where abnormalities and defects can occur. The doctors make the mother aware of the consequences that can happen when they don t do what is asked of them during the pregnancy and what can happen if they do the complete opposite. Solnit reminisces upon a leisurely time prior to 1995, in which time itself was plentiful, and each day was decipherable and measured in austere events. This once upon a time was free of the complex technologies that now occupy the majority of our time. In the Matrix s case Neo the hero figure, is unsure if he is the one who can save everyone, so he asks his own god (Oracle). In The Matrix Neo discovers that he has the power within himself to decide how he lives his life and what happens in it. In his role, the savior of mankind, these powers within him come from his own mind not some other object or being. This is where reality comes in and we all know that no normal human being can posses these powers, but Neo s teacher (Morpheus) tells him that these powers are within him if only he uses his mind. His implies that everything is possible if only we put our minds to it. Going back to Neo s meeting with the Oracle, she told Neo he was not the one. By this definition, intergroup contact that integrates through conformity to a dominant group and by cultural pluralism can be categorized under order theories. When intergroup contact begins as a social hierarchy, the interaction between the immigrating and native group can be modified by the new coming group conforming to the will of the dominant. • 46. Selecting The Appropriate Research Methods 3. Methodology When selecting the appropriate research methods, it was important for me to carefully consider the approaches that would best fit my research in order to reach meaningful conclusions. I decided to choose approaches that I see fit around my research topic and would ensure I achieve the results to come out of my research. As (Walker, 1985, p.46) advocates that Just as recipes are not simply things that are done to food, but become concepts within which method and substance are compounded. Methods in research can become an intrinsic part of the project. The methods we choose are, in this sense, there to be tested, just as much as the substantive hypothesis . This claims that the methods that are chosen to embark on an area of research are a vital part of the project and need to be taken into account just as much as the question that the methods are used to answer it. Therefore, the two approaches I chose to shape my research were a case studyand appreciative inquiry to allow me to collect the data I had selected which was the following; questionnaires, interviews and observations. 3.1 Case Study I have chosen to approach my research by using a case study approach which builds up a rich picture of a case using different kinds of data collection and gathering the views, perceptions and ideas of diverse individuals relating to the case. (Yin, 2009, p.15) states The case study method is most likely to be appropriate for how and why questions . This supports ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the owners did not want to succeed to the labor union s pleads and demands because they were terrified that unions would diminish their authority over the workplace. Despite the owners unwillingness, many of them succeeded to the labor unions demands because there was a lot of strikes in companies and they needed their workers for the upcoming busy work season. However, the owners of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory: Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, did not want to succeed to those pleads because their profits were declining and they did not have enough resources to please the workers demands.
