The Southwest Blackout Of 2003
The Northeast blackout of 2003 was one of the most critical blackouts in the history which
affected more than 50 million people in both the United States and Canada. The main cause of
this disaster was a software bug in the energy management system used by FirstEnergy
Corporation, located in Akron, Ohio. This is a perfect example of poor quality coding may led to a
big disaster. For a perfectly planned power grid, the power generation of each region is matched
with the power consumption within this region, so that the power lines will always carry a
reasonable workload. If one power line fails to work, other parallel lines would have to carry extra
power, which is bad for safety and may lead to fire. The power system operators are the ones...

And the generating plant don t know it either. Then, because the workload was assigned to other
lines, several other lines in the region also declined to work for self protection, and the whole Ohio
and Michigan got blackout short after. The company and other government departments noticed the
problem, but hardly have anything to do at the time. The cascading effect is already unstoppable.
Each generating plant can only separate their generators from the power grid to prevent the large
current destroy their generators. So almost all the generating plants in northeastern United States
and Ontario went offline, and the whole region got blackout. This happened in only 2 hours. Water
pumps cannot work without power supply, so some areas also have water supply problem. And
other services like public transportation (e.g. TTC streetcars), communication, and media (radio
and TV stations) also affected. Some areas recovered from the blackout the same night, but most
areas did not get power back until August 16th, two days after the accident. Both United States
government and Canada government were criticized, and they adopted some policy to prevent
future blackouts after it. Following the blackout, a thorough investigation of the energy control
system was taken. GE s developers looked through millions of lines of code and log to find the
bug, and it them weeks to finally locate the bug. The bug is known as a race condition in computer
science,

Essay on Reforming Canada’s Healthcare System
A friend of mine went to the emergency department because she had severe pain in her right
lower abdomen. She received a laparoscope and was notified that she required surgery
immediately to get her appendix removed. While the on call anesthesiologist was caring for a
mother in labour leaving her and other patients waiting for care. She waited several hours to get
access to an anesthesiologist to receive medical care before her surgical procedure. After her surgery
, the surgeon stated her appendix was really severe, and they were lucky enough to perform
surgery before it ruptured. If she had waited longer her appendix could ve ruptured, and it would
ve been very dangerous and life threatening. Based on this experience I will examine how... Show

Challenges in Future Planning
Extensive Wait Times for Surgeries
Canada s health care system assures universality, portability, and accessibility; disappointingly,
not all Canadians have access to specialists and facilities. Many patients face long wait times or
do not have access to anesthetic and surgical care because the inadequate supply of
anaesthesiologists for demand of Canada s aging population. For instance, a woman experiencing
severe pain in her right lower abdomen may endure excessive wait time to receive pain relief and
life saving care. However, surgical or other medical procedures can only be performed if patients
have access to an anaesthesiologist. Despite government promises, and the billions of dollars
funnelled into the Canadian healthcare system, the average wait time for surgeries in Ontario is
approximately 14.3 weeks (Barua, Rovere Skinner, 2011).
Waste of Tax Dollars
Moreover, hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars are wasted since many Canadians do not have
timely access to anaesthesiologists. Almost five million Canadians do not have access health care
professionals, or they experience long waits to see specialists (Canadian Association of Advanced
Practice Nurses, 2011). The shortage of anaesthesiologists and services not rendered appropriately
is costing Canadians money as

Distributing Organs
Distributing the organs among the patients should be done in an ethical way. Not everyone in
need of an organ transplant gets what is needed for him because there is a shortage in organ
availability. Actually, there should be a fair distribution plan and everyone should be aware of it.
Most likely there are two types of distributive rightness. The first type is called equal access, which
means the available organs should be fairly divided among the waited patients no matter the sex or
the race, and the waiting time length should be considered. The first on the list be treated first.
Another type of distributive justice is called maximum benefit, which means that the doctor give
the priority to the patient who the doctor sees that he/she will live longer or the transplantation will
be successful. It is a way to avoid wasting the organs because they are rare. UNOS encourages the
transplant centers in the United States to use those methods in distributive the organs: the medical
need, probability of success, and time on the waiting list.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many arguments that shows it has no fairness between the patients simply because no one
has the ability to determine how long the transplanted patient will live after the surgery. How many
years the organ will function. I believe that the second type is an unethical issue in the distribution
because there is no equality between people, and it gives its back to the older people, and not
giving them the opportunity to get the organ they are needed for. as a result, they may lose their

Mask Dances of Bhutan
Mask Dance (Cham)
Classical dances in Bhutan are reflected in the religious mask pageants and ritual dances. With the
introduction of Buddhism in the 8th century AD by Guru Padmasambhava from Tibet, ritual and
mask dances gained roots in the Bhutanese system as part of the Mahayana Buddhist tradition. With
the birth of the great Terton (treasure revealer) Pema Lingpa in the 15th century, the mask dances in
Bhutan took firm roots and gained an impetus as part of the Bhutanese cultural life. The Ter Cham
(treasure dances) and Pe Ling Ging Sum were the most famous of the dances that still continues to
this day. In the 17th century with the arrival of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal from Tibet, the mask
dances further gained importance. Many new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many versions about the introduction of the Dramitse Ngachham. Most historians say that
the dance was first introduced by Khedrup Kuenga Gyeltshen in Ogyen Thechog Choling
monastery. This man was said to be a brother of Ani Choten Zangmo who settled at Dramitse after
naming the place. Khedup Kuenga, while undergoing a retreat had a vision of three beautiful
women who had the heavenly form, dressed in silken clothes with precious gems. These three
heavenly bodies guided him to the abode of Guru Rinpoche where he witnessed celestial heroes and
heroines performing a dance. After this incident, Khedrup Kuenga introduced the dance according
to the prophecy made by Guru in his vision.
The nineteenth century versions of the Dramitse Ngacham say that dance was also introduced in
other parts of Bhutan by the end of nineteenth century.
Today, the dance has evolved from a local event, centered on a particular community into an art
form, representing the identity of the Bhutanese nation as a whole. Drametse Ngacham was also
proclaimed as the masterpiece of the world intangible heritage in November 2005.
Durdag
Durdag is known as the dance of the Lords of the Cremation Grounds. On the external edges of a
symbolic mandala where the assembly of the secret Tantric deities reside, there are eight large
cremation grounds. Living in these cremation grounds are numerous lords (Chhokyong) who are
bound by an oath to protect the religion. Among them is

The Grass By Cather Summary
When Cather discusses grass she gets very detailed. Everywhere, as far as the eye could reach,
there was nothing but rough, shaggy, red, grass most of it as tall as I. North of the house, inside
the ploughed fire breaks , grew a thick set strip of box elder trees, low and bushy, their leaves
already turning yellow. This hedge was nearly a quarter of a mile long, but I had to look very
hard to see it at all. The little trees were insignificant against the grass. It seemed as if the grass
were about to run over them, and over the plum patch behind the sod chicken house. As I looked
about me I felt that the grass was the country, as the water is the sea. The red of the grass made all
the great prairie the color of wine stains, or of certain

Donald Trump Controversies
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are running for President of the United States with opposing
views on how to run the country. Both candidates have a lot of problems that could affect their
candidacy. The 2016 presidential election could be the most scandal plagued match up ever held.
The Republican front runner is at least as burdened with controversy as Clinton is, and while
many of the Clinton cases involve suspicion and shadowy links, many of Trump s accusations are
fully documented in court cases and legal proceedings. The range of Trump s controversies is truly
remarkable, ranging from allegations of mafia ties to fraudulent business dealings, racial
discrimination, and alleged marital rape. These allegations have not stopped Trump from

It is low when there is confusion over who has decision making authority. Scores on this
dimensions measure the feeling of pressure to improve performance and the degree of pride
employees take in doing a good job. High scores mean people are always looking for ways to
improve performance. Low scores reflect lower performance standards. Standards
Responsibility Scores on this dimension reflect the feeling employees have of being their own
boss and of not having to constantly check decisions with others. High responsibility scores
signify that employees are encouraged to solve problems on their own. Low responsibility
scores indicate that risk taking and the testing of new approaches tend to be discouraged. 1

Cyberstalking, Personal Privacy
In the article Cyberstalking, personal privacy, and moral responsibility Herman T. Tavani and
Frances S. Grodzinsky start by analyzing the topic of stalking. They start by giving the
definition of stalking as being generally considered as being one in which an individual, the
stalker, stealthily tracks the movement of another individual or individuals. The authors then
proceed on portraying the topic of cyberstalking. They show that cyberstalking can be
understood as a form of behavior in which certain types of stalking related activities, which in the
past have occurred in physical space, are extended to the on line world. (Tavini and Grodzinsky
p.123) To make more vivid, Tavani and Grodzinsky give an example of cyberstalking. They display
that a 20 year old girl was murdered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the example, the authors then went on to explain what search engines can be used for. They
demonstrate that search engines can be used to locate personal information about individuals. This
personal information can also be acquired easily by personal data that is accessible to internet
search engines without the knowledge and the consent of the person. Furthermore Tavani and
Grodzinsky explain the topics of the internet service providers, their legal liability and the moral
responsibilities behind them. In the case of ISP s, the threat of legal liability can be used
despite the fact that currently in the US it is not to deter ISP s from becoming lax about
policing their electronic forums to some reasonable extent. (Tavani and Grodzinsky p.128) They
authors display three views of this moral obligation. The first one is a view formulated by Josef
Peiper. He says that a moral obligation is one that is not only personal but it is also one that is
linked to the person s community. The second view is on formulated by Carol

Postcolonial Lens
Postcolonial critiques of literary works are often accomplished by reading and interpreting the
work with a specific theme in mind or a lens . By allowing oneself to use a lens when reading
specific works, it allows the reader to interpret the effects of the themes and the changes
throughout the writings. The goal of the critical lens is to seek to understand the behavior of
characters or the society ( Post Colonialism, 2016). A few of the most popular themes used to
view literary works are identity, oppression and power; applying this lens can give the reader a
different perspective and experience while reading the writings.
The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Tempestboth have several postcolonial themes that run through
them. In both, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to the end of Act 2. It is hard to see a more prominent theme in the play of the Tempest.
Prospero, the protagonist, was originally the Duke of Milan, but had his kingdom taken from
him by his own brother and was banished to an island with only his daughter and his books. His
books were his power and he loved them greatly telling his daughter Miranda Me, poor man, my

Informative Speech On Horse Therapy
Hello class, as you may know by now my name is Peighton Davis and I have a passion for horses
and I wanted to learn more of the ways horses can help you. For the past couple of weeks I have
been looking into horse therapy also known as Equine Therapy. So, I decided my Genius Hour
question would be, What is Equine Therapy and how does it help people ?
Before we jump into the main question, let s jump back to where it all started. Horse therapy dates
back to around 600 b.c when the greeks rode horses for therapy. Later, in around 1946 equine
therapy then was introduced in Scandinavia. Which then led to the North Americans beginning the
handicapped riding which started around 1969. They soon recognized that riding horses or just being

They can help the individual build confidence, trust, and social skills. Horses may also deal with
some relating issues so it makes it easier to build a connection with the horse and their handler.
Horses only react to the handler s behavior and emotional status. Horses aren t there to judge your
appearance or what happened to the you in the past they are just there to help in the present. Most
people like this option because some people believe that they will be judged by a human therapist
doctor and most of the patients know that the horses won t judge them on what they look like or
been through. This helps people build self esteem and self confidence. Through the years children
and adults who participate riding programs improve in physical and social function. Studies have
shown that therapeutic riding has shown positive outcomes that change people s lives for the better.
Some have been able to gain the function to walk and talk better then before or even for the first
time. This is because of the socializing, movement, and the need for balance on a horse. Through
movement with the horse and the interaction with the people that work there, children and adults
also have improved in other things such as physical function, emotional stability and social
interactions. Challenging activities help gain more balance and control, and posture as the horses
shows the motivation towards the

What Is The Difference Between Romeo And Juliet 1968 Play
For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo. William Shakespeare.
Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare early in his career about two
young star crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. It was among
Shakespeare s most popular plays during his lifetime and along with Hamlet, is one of his most
frequently performed plays. The 1968 film version of Romeo and Juliet is a British Italian
romance film based on the tragic play by William Shakespeare. The film was directed and co
written by Franco Zeffirelli, and starred Olivia Hussey as Juliet Capulet, and Leonard Whiting as

most popular version as well.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This version was the first to use actors who were close to the age of the characters from the
original play. Not only were the actors age very accurate, their portrayal of the characters were
so believable because the actors playing Romeo and Juliet actually fell in love in the making of
the film. All of the actors of the film played their characters very well and made them come to
life. Olivia and Leonard told the story of Romeo and Juliet very accurately not only through their
lines but with their body language. Viewers can really feel the emotional connection between the
two. All the relationships between characters was spot on, my favorite being Lord Capulet and
Paris. Although the acting throughout the film was very good, some scenes weren t as good as
the others. The worst scenes would have to be the deaths of Mercutio and Tybalt. Those two death
scenes were very unbelievable and unrealistic and didn t give viewers the burden of emotion as

Unfortunately, no one believes Blanche when she informs them of the offense, and they in turn

unstable mental state, and it is unacceptable that he got away with his actions. One source

Legs In America
Introduction
The most resourceful part of the body is the legs. Legs are located in the lower part of the body.
Legs help one to get started, move around, run, jump, and squat. Attached to the legs is the feet.
Feet are located at the bottom of the legs and attached to each foot are five toes. Given a careful
examination of the foot, there is a big toe, the big toe constitutes balance. In comparison, Just as a
body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ (1
Corinthians 12: 12, NIV). Similarly, America has many resourceful parts, forming the United States
of America. Not everyone is located in these United States, or privilege to become part of the

Teaching Growth Analysis
During the Spring semester of 2014, I was placed in a third grade classroom at Charles
Elementary. The teacher of the third grade classroom was Mrs. Doe. The experience in the
classroom was one of the biggest learning experience I have had thus far in the education program.
The environment was very welcoming and the cooperating teacher cared about my success, which
was very rewarding. Comparing myself as a teacher to the first few weeks in the classroom, to the
last few weeks in the classroom, I would conclude that there was exceptional growth that occurred. I
believe my classroom managementskills is something I improved tremendously throughout this field
experience. Reflecting on my first lessontaught in the classroom at Charles, I was constantly talking
over the students trying to get them to settle down and listen. After the first lesson, when meeting
with the CT, the first thing she told me, was to pick a management strategy and stick with it
throughout the rest of the semester. She noticed I was having a hard time getting the students to
calm down once they would too rowdy. To avoid situations that involved having to yell over the
students, I decided to do the three clap method that Mrs. Vance used frequently to get the students
attention. The teacher claps three times and the students repeat, after the students clap, their voices
are off. I started to use this technique throughout the placement, not just on days that I taught
lessons to get the

could notice that he dresses all kinds different cheap informal clothes such as jeans and T shirts.
His clothes fit well with the way he looks, Arron is tall and thin, he always has a long hair, and
he is black haired. In other words Arron appearance is simply unique. The idea of him spending

The Marine Insurance Act 1906
Introduction.
The Marine Insurance Act 1906 ( MIA 1906 ) sets out a duty of utmost good faith between
contracting parties in insurance contracts. This duty is unusual in English contract law and imposes
a heavy burden on the parties. As a result, it has been the subject of much academic debate,
culminating in statutory reforms. This essay will analyse the duty in both its traditional and revised
form, focusing on whether its merits outweigh its weaknesses and whether it should be retained.
The duty in brief.
Utmost good faith ( UGF ) (or uberrima fides) imposes a requirement of honesty and of full
disclosure between contracting parties. The distinction between good faith and UGF is unclear. It
has been suggested that good faith is simply fair and open dealing between all contracting parties .
UGF instead imposes a negative obligation not to make misleading statements as well as a positive
obligation to disclose facts which might affect the other party entering into the contract.
The roots of the duty of utmost good faith.
The principle of uberrima fides in the insurance contract has been traced back to Lord Mansfield in
Carter v Boehm, with the first judicial attempt to set out the duty. He based the duty of disclosure
on the fact that insurance is a contract upon speculation , highlighting the imbalance of information
between the insurer and the assured. The contingency is calculated on facts which are generally
only known to the assured. This was regarded by Lord

What Does Lenor Symbolize In The Raven
Does grief truly leave you lonely, or does it bring the memories of someone back to you? In the
poem The Raven , by Edgar Allan Poe, there is a Raven that talks to the narrator who is currently
going through the grieving process. He is grieving over his lost love, Lenore. Throughout the
poem, he constantly refers to her and is always left feeling sad and alone. The Ravensymbolizes
Lenoreand the narrator s relationship with her. It seems as though his grieving creates a way for
him to have her back in his life. Lenore, the narrator s lost love, has passed on and the narrator
misses her very much. The narrator opens a window because he believed he heard something. The
Raven flies into the room and rests on the bust of Pallas the figure that represents wisdom. The
window may symbolize the narrator s openness to new knowledge and experiences. Sometimes

He finds himself enjoying the company of the Raven. After contemplating about the bird, he
says, Till I scarcely more than muttered Other friends have flown before / On the morrow...(the
Raven) will leave me, as my hopes have flown before. / Then the bird said Nevermore (58 60).
This suggests that the narrator is very much missing his soulmate and friend. He tells the Raven
that his other friends and the people he had loved have left him. These words are very powerful
because he is so full of grief and longing, that the bird reminds him of Lenore. He wants her to
stay, nevertheless, he still is doubting that the Raven would stay. The narrator also mentions that
the friends have flown away before. The friends are referring to Lenore. It is a universal
understanding that when it says people have flown it refers to heaven or the afterlife, it is
interesting that he would use those words. Lenore has flown before, therefore showing that the
narrator is questioning if Lenore will leave him

Should Congress Close Guantanamo Bay Naval Station And...
Introduction There is a problem in the United States. There is an excess of terrorists and having
the most powerful nation on Earth means that these terrorists often end up in Guantanamo Bay,
Cuba. This prison is based on 45 square miles of land that is known more commonly as Gitmo.
Most people believe Guantanamo is a good concept but has gone terribly wrong. The government
needs to do something because with the current proposal from President Obama, detainees would
be moved ashore and abroad, which would not fix the problem. The problem is, what do we do
with all these terrorists? If this proposal passes through, people will be worried and need answers
about Gitmo. Why should the most dangerous people in the world come on American soil?
Research Question
Should Congress close Guantanamo Bay Naval Station and Prison?
Research
Guantanamo Bay opened in 2002 and since then more than 700 detainees have been held there. In
1991, approximately 34,000 Haitian refugees are detained on the base after they flee a coup in
Haiti. In 1994 1995, more than 55,000 Cubans and Haitians, captured at sea, are kept at
Guantanamo. These are not considered detainees because they are not American prisoners, but
Cuban. At its peak in 2003, Guantanamo held nearly 680 detainees, and there were about 245 when
President Obama took office. The life standards at Guantanamo are the worst in human history.

The Case Of Drones
By the year 2050, the world s population is expected to reach 9.8 billion people. To sustain this
enormous population, it is absolutely critical to optimize production of food and water usage.
Furthermore, as extreme weather such as droughts and floods become more and more frequent due
to climate change, conserving water and increasing food production will become invaluable to
sustaining human life. Currently, many farmers in developed countries analyze near infrared
imagery from drones and satellites to gain environmental data about their fields. This technology
takes advantage of chlorophyll s high degree of fluctuation in light reflection from only slight
changes in water content. Although this spectrum is invisible to the naked eye,... Show more content

However, as these services are extremely expensive (up to tens of thousands of dollars), they are
not accessible to many farmers. In addition to being costly, stringent legal restrictions hinder the
usage of this technology. The FAA prohibits the flying of agricultural drones for commercial
reasons without a remote pilot airman certificate or the direct supervision of a person who
possesses one. This further broadens the economic divide, requiring farmers to either pass an
FAA approved exam and retake the test biannually, or pay monthly fees to hire an operator to fly
the drone for them. Alternatively, free spectral data from satellites can also be used to analyze
the health of crops in a field. One such source is the European Space Agency, which grants
access to its satellite data through the Copernicus Programme. Although the data is free, the
means to access it are not. A farmer would need a computer, high speed internet, and the skills to
use software and manipulate the data into an interpretable form. All of these factors amount to a
nearly insurmountable wall to simply be able to find out how healthy a field is. Furthermore,
data obtained from satellite images have a fairly low resolution of 10 20 meters squared per
pixel. To put this in perspective, 21 sedans parked in three rows of seven would show up as just
one pixel. Resolution this grainy hinders the accuracy and detail of the analysis software, making

Coal Mining
Coal mining is not only a dangerous job, but also life threatening and deadly. Many accidents
have happened over the years and coal mining is less popular than it was when it first started.
Even though today fifty percent of our electricity is powered by coal. There are four different
types of coalmines, each very different. The first type are drift or slope mines, they are driven into
valley walls near seams of coal. The second types of mines are shaft mines, these types of mines
use pumps to remove water. Boreholes are drilled to relieve water pressure for safer mining. The
third types of mines are surface mines. Surface mines use draglines, which can remove up to 200ft

The United States on average mines about 950 million tons of coal each year. The coal mine
with the most production is the Thunder Basin Coal CO. The Black Thunder mine is in
Wyoming, which in 1994 produced 31,651,762 tons of coal. The average weekly pay for a coal
miner is $903.76 and about $39,067.60 per year. You can surface mine on both mountains and
plains. Coal is a fossil fuel, because it was formed from the remains of vegetation that grew as
long as 400 million years ago. A fossil fuel is a naturally occurring fuel of organic nature, such as
coal, crude oil and natural gases. It is often referred to as buried sunshine because the plants which
formed coal captured energy from the sun through photosynthesis to create the compounds that
makes up plant tissue. Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants convert light to energy
by transforming carbon dioxide and water into carbon hydrates. There are about 267 billion tons
or, thirteen percent, of known American reserves in the United States. The most important
element in the plant material is carbon, which gives coal most of its energy. Most of the coal
today was formed about 300 million years ago, when steamy swamps covered most of the earth.
As plants and trees died, their remains sank to the bottom of the swampy areas, accumulating layer
upon layer and eventually forming a soggy dense material called peat. Peat is a

Military Trade Patterns
U.S. Military Engagement And Trade Patterns. Why is trade and war happening at the same

theory explains the trading during war exported from the U.S to all over the world. It explains in
detail why trade was going on during war, benefits to our nation with the export and import of

Hello, I m Johnny Cash
Hello, I m Johnny Cash
On February 26, 1932, a legend was born, only 2 hours north from Texarkana. Kingsland
Arkansas is the hometown of Mr. Johnny Cash, a song writer, a performer, a country music
singer, a guitarist, an alcoholic, and a lover. Cash was originally born as, John R. Cash, after his
mother and father. Between his parents, they raised 6 children. When Cash was only 3, his father
moved his family to Dyess Colony in the northeastern part of Arkansas, which became the
childhood home of Cash. Here, his family became farmers. I think the first nerve that was struck for
Johnny Cash, was when his older brother, Jack, died while cutting wood. Cash was so devastated
that the day of his funeral, Cash went with a shovel to the grave site and dug him up, only at 12
years old. In his early years, Cash was influenced in music from his mother s hymns, to the work
songs that the railroad workers, not far from his house, would sing. He graduated in 1950, and
soon set off to find work in Detroit, never knowing all he had to do was open his mouth.
However, he found himself working at an automotive plant in Pontiac Michigan in his early
twenties. He soon realized that working on cars was not his thing. Cash decided that signing up
for the U.S. Air Force was the right direction to go. He moved to Texas for basic training, where
he met his first wife, Vivian Liberto, in San Antonio at a roller skating park. After basic training,
Cash was shipped to Germany, which wasn t until

Salmonell Salmonella And Salmonella
One of the most common causes of food poisoning to date in the United States today is from a
group of bacteria, Salmonella (Foodsafety.gov, n.d.). As reported by the Centers of Disease
Control and Prevention [CDC] (2014), Salmonella causes an estimated 1.2 million illnesses
annually leading to 19,000 hospitalizations and a mortality of 380 (CDC, 2014). This cost was
reported to be more than $3.7 billion in 2013 (Foodsafety.gov, n.d.)! The two most common kinds
of Salmonellain the United States are Salmonella serotype Typhimurium and Salmonella serotype
Enteritidis with Salmonellosis more common in the summer months (CDC, 2012).
Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, and vomiting anywhere from 6 72 hours
after being infected (Foodsafety.gov, n.d.). Because there are many things that can cause those
symptoms, diagnosing Salmonella would depend on laboratory tests that identifies it in the stool of
an individual that is infected (CDC, 2013). Further testing can help determine the specific type once
Salmonella has been confirmed.
These symptoms typically go away after 5 7 without treatment other than hydration. However,
individuals with severe symptoms may require intravenous fluids or antibiotic therapy, most
especially for young infants, older adults (over 65 years old) and immunocompromised persons
(CDC, 2012). The drug of choice for antibiotic therapy include fluoroquinolones, third generation
cephalosporins, and ampicillin (CDC, 2012).

The Widespread Adoption Of Information Technology Essay
The widespread adoption of information technology (IT) has resulted in significant savings in
health care costs as well as improved patient health and safety. Today in healthcare facilities,
databases store records that can be accessed from anywhere in the world. This results in better data
coordination and management (Banova, 2013). The benefits of increased use of IT continues to
grow as leaders in the field of medicinecreate innovative ways to use IT to improve the business
and healthcare side of medicine. IT has increased the efficiency and decreased the cost of doing
business. This leads to dollars and an increase in overall patient quality which is critical with the
changes in the reimbursement models from CMS ( Benefits of Healthcare , 2015).
The city of San Diego as the need and push for IT implementation has grown made a large
technology investment and created a health information exchange (HIE). San Diego Health
Connect began in efforts to improve healthcare in the San Diego community spearheaded by the
University of California. In April 2010, UC San Diego received a grant from the Office of the
National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) on behalf of the community. They
named this the Beacon community. The HIE is a vast network of healthcare providers and social
services ( San Diego Health Connect , 2015).
The HIE quickly grew membership and the participation of the major health systems in San Diego

Caracal is an alternative rock band based in Singapore which has been around since 2006. The
band consists of five members, KC Meals on vocals, Henry Louis Velge on the bass guitar,
Gabriel De Souza on the lead guitar, Field Teo on the rhythm guitar and Martin Kong on drums.
Since their debut into the local scene in 2006, Caracal has gained fame among the locals in

Also, making sure that media attention on the band is closely monitored while sending press
releases to the media informing about upcoming performances and public appearances. Lastly,
the manager has to acquire the help of a publicist or if not needed, publicise the band as it adds
value to the band by setting up CD sales, getting more bookings for shows and interviews.
Opportunities for Caracal is that being based in Singapore, the market is small and is easier to
break into the music scene and be one of the famous bands around. On the other hand, the
limitation of being in Singapore is that the music scene is not as recognized and huge such as
companies in the United States of America where talent scouts are everywhere looking for new
talent every other day for their record labels. Therefore, an action plan must be set for the goals,
aims and objectives of both the band and the manager must be put into place. Firstly, with the
band flying off overseas for the Canadian Music Festival in Toronto, press releases must be
printed and sent out to the media involved in the music festival. Not stopping there, more press
releases and also portable info packs should be printed out so that when attending artists
networking conferences in Canada, the United States of America or in fact anywhere around the
world, the manager is able to promote their band to A list record labels or scouts. Networking is an

Warrior Women Oppression
Warrior Women: Oppression and Strength of Female Protagonists in Mrs. Dalloway, The Woman
Warrior, and The Handmaid s Tale In most history books, women get far fewer pages than men.
This is sometimes attributed to a lack of material left behind by women through time, but this and
their relative lack of coverage are both testaments to the limits placed on women in the male
dominated societies of the times discussed. An article on feminist literary criticism quotes Virginia
Woolf saying, womanpervaded poetry from cover to cover but was in fact the slave of any boy
whose parents forced a ring on her finger (Lanser 5). In more recent history, strong female voices

Room, in controlling societies, marriage can be utilized as a way of submitting women to the rule
of a man or limiting their options in society by confining them to the roles thought acceptable for
a wife. This theme is continued in Mrs. Dalloway, as marriage is displayed as a form of sacrifice

I think that calling her father a Nazi is especially powerful not only because Sylvia Plath s father
was alive during some of the Nazi atrocities as a child, but also because it s an act of

Loyalty bonuses should be directly linked to manager performance to recognize and encourage

Or it may be the cab driver. Perhaps Eliot is observing a street prostitute, the В‘you of the poem,
as she stands on the pavement among the withered leaves. В•It might be helpful to regard this
poem, like the others, as a video post card of this moment, six o clock on the winter s evening.
Eliot used words as his way of painting the picture. В•The time is pinpointed at 6 o clock
precisely. В•Residents, living probably in one roomed apartments, are cooking their evening

В•The smell of steak is a signal that day is done and night is beginning. Because of city smoke
the day is described as smoky. Maybe the smoke occurs because people are cooking at the same

suggestion that they over cook the steaks? В•The weather is bad; a windy shower beats on the

Buildings were burning. The Sidon and killed many people. Alexander managed to smuggle
some 15,000 of them to safety (Doc C). The remaining survivors 30,000 he sold into slavery, but
he spared their lives. Alexander was great because he saved some many lives and spared lives to
people he conquered. A final reason Alexander is great is his military. Alexander moved his
troops in different directions. The enemy wouldn t expect it. Alexander moved his troops to the
river bank, and he took most of his cavalry. He would create a clamour, raise the war cry and
produce all other such noises as would come from men preparing to cross the river (Doc B).
Alexander was great because he leaded his men into a fighting zone but he prepared it to attack
his enemy. It is true that Alexander had some bad points. For example they scooped up with
difficulty what they could and hurried back to Alexander then, just before they reached him, they
tipped the water into a helmet and gave it to him. Alexander, with a word of thanks for the gift,
took the helmet and , in full view of his troops, poured the water on the ground. (Doc D). The
three reasons above he found many cities, he saved people, and his military show how Alexander

Communication Is The Foundation Of Any Successful...
Communication is the foundation of any successful relationship. Partners that communicate their
thoughts and feelings, along with their likes and dislikes, are more likely to regard their
relationships as happy and content. Nevertheless, not every relationship can be this way, and some
are even plagued with an extramarital affair, either enacted by one or both partners in the
relationship. Studies show that 30 60% of American men and 20 50% of American women will
have sex with someone other than their spouse while they are married (Vangelisti Gerstenberger,
2004). This is a rather high statistic, and even though affairs are becoming more common in
society today, they are still a painful experience for all involved. In articles by Afifi,... Show more

Positive face is regarded, as the needs for ones desire to be liked, while negative face
characterizes individuals need to be free from any sort of imposition or restraint. When an
individual finds out that their spouse has had an affair, there becomes an imminent threat to one
s face. This is due to the fact that people may place an importance on maintaining a positive
impression for those around them. When this is threatened by an affair, one must repair damaged
face (labeled facework), including apologies, excuses, and justifications (Afifi et al., 2001). The
transgressor of the affair, to help repair the damage, must do this facework not only to restore their
partner s positive and negative face, but also to try and mend any sort of indiscretions that
emerged from said affair. The researchers of this article mentioned that in their research they found
that there are four general methods in which one can discover a partner s affair. They are
unsolicited third party discovery, red handed , solicited discovery, and unsolicited partner discovery
(Afifi et al., 2001). In unsolicited third party discovery, another person outside the relationship tells
the primary partner about the infidelity. Red handed occurs when the primary partner accidentally
walks in on an act of adultery. Solicited discovery occurs when the primary partner discovers the
infidelity and confronts the transgressor

The Scale Of Global Climate Disruption Essay
The scale of global climate disruption is too great to conquer with only statements of commitment
and generalized solutions, especially given that many nationally determined contributions (NDCs)
are not enough to limit warming to 2 degrees. Given the massive scope of the changing climate
system, addressing and solving the causes can be accomplished and observed more effectively on a
smaller scale, such as provided by cities, businesses, and institutions of higher learning, which
compose an impactful proportion of the larger body (state or nation). The only way to effectively
integrate sustainable solutions broadly is to examine small scale successful measures in living
laboratories, and to then implement those more widely and efficiently. This allows greater regions
to tailor and adapt solutions to fit into their community.
There needs to be integration on all levels of society and among the various stakeholders in order
to have any hope of restricting warming to 1.5 2 degrees Celsius, therefor limiting the disastrous
potential impacts. This report will detail and inventory some of the most ambitious climate action
plans and applied policies from a selection of the most influential and innovative cities, businesses,
and universities in the world. Data collected from policies around the world as well as emissions
targets relay the actions already in place. Additionally, an analysis of the methods within California
and Sweden in terms of GHG emissions, reductions targets and

Shakespeare-In-The-East Church Research Paper
Recently, I ventured out to the business district to see St. Dunstan in the East Church. It was a
church built in Saxon times, later restored, but burned down in the London fire. In 1697, Sir
Christopher Wren rebuilt the church. Then, it was bombed out during World War II. Today, only
the exterior and steeple remain. However, the initiative conservationist groups took to turn it into
a garden was magnificent and reminded me of Shakespeare s New Place in Stratford upon Avon.
All of the interiors are gone from the building, including any glass panes that were in the window,
but it is a small garden for the public to enter for free. That s one thing that I ve noticed about the
United Kingdom: that conservation groups tend to develop a space into a park or garden, reviving
the remains of older historical buildings. It also maintains the historical significance it has to the
city surrounding it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dunstan in the East was quite small, we decided to find All Hallows by The Tower Church, the
oldest church in England. The church is still functioning and the land it was built on has been
religious grounds dating back 1300 years. It was destroyed in World War II, but rebuilt as a new
meeting place for God and man. The space had been developed to hold services, but also house a
museum in the crypt and to hold art. The art inside features new architectural developments in
London. However, to commemorate the Great Fire that occurred in the late 1600s, the main
collage piece created by Victoria Burgher featured fire over the new city pictures. The heritage that
the city carries is super interesting, especially because a lot of the commemorations are displayed
in churches across the United Kingdom. It s interesting to see that art and religion can both be
appreciated, but do not have to correlate with each

Acidosis and Akalosis
The normal pH value for the body fluids is between pH 7.35 and 7.45. When the pH value of body
fluids is below 7.35, the condition is called acidosis, and when the pH is above 7.45, it is called
alkalosis. (Tortora, G., Derrickson, B., 2014)
The major effect of acidosis is depression of the central nervous system. When the pH of the blood
falls below 7.35, the central nervous system malfunctions, and the individual becomes disoriented
and possibly comatose as the condition worsens. Causes for acidosis include things such as;
obesity, disease of the airway and diseases involving the chest. (Hadjiliadis, 2014)
A major effect of alkalosis is hyperexcitability of the nervous system. Peripheral nerves are affected
first, resulting in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the kidneys are not effective in compensating for respiratory alkalosis that occurs in
response to hyperventilation triggered by emotions, which usually begins quickly and subsides
within minutes or hours. However, if alkalosis results from staying at a high altitude over a 2 or 3
day period, the kidneys play a significant role in helping to compensate.
Metabolic acidosis results from all conditions that decrease the pH of the body fluids below 7.35
and HCO3 levels are lt;22 mEq/L, with the exception of conditions resulting from altered function
of the respiratory system. As hydrogen ions accumulate in the body fluids, buffers first resist a
decline in pH. If the buffers cannot compensate for the increase in hydrogen ions, the respiratory
center helps regulate the body fluid pH. The reduced pH stimulates the respiratory center, which
causes hyperventilation. During hyperventilation, carbon dioxide is eliminated at a greater rate. The
elimination of carbon dioxide also eliminates excess hydrogen ions and helps maintain the pH of
the body fluids within a normal range. (Angus, 2006)
If metabolic acidosis persists for many hours and if the kidneys are functional, the kidneys can
also help compensate for metabolic acidosis. They begin to secrete hydrogen ions at a greater rate
and increase the rate of bicarbonate ion reabsorption. Symptoms of metabolic acidosis appear if the
respiratory and renal systems are not able to maintain the pH

Rhetorical Analysis Of Holes Then Watching The Film ...
Holes Persuasive Essay
After reading Louis Sachar s novel Holes then watching the film adaptation by Andrew Davis, I can
without a doubt say that I enjoyed watching the movie more than reading the novel. I found the
novel to be detailed, however, boring and unenjoyable due to its slow pace and confusing structure.
When I watched the movie, I really liked the emotion and passion, the simplicity and clear structure
and the entertaining and amusing action and comedy aspects. These are the factors that contribute
to why I believe that the film Holes is more enjoyable than the novel Holes .
Whilst reading the novel, I never experienced any passion or emotion. I felt that the novel was
descriptive but just not captivating to audiences. When reading Holes I definitely found myself
losing focus and interest. This may be due to the slow pace and difficulty to picture each scene
realistically. Time after time, I found myself unengaged and unwilling to continue the novel due to
its lack of emotional description. However, in the movie, actually watching the scenes be bought to
life engaged audiences and, during major scenes in the plot, enhanced the audiences experience
using drama, realism and passion.
The first example of a scene that is represented better in the film than compared to the novel, is
when Hector Zeroni runs away from the camp. In the novel, while the boys are digging holes,
Hector is involved in a fight with ZigZag after ZigZag threatens Stanley. During the

The Effects Of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis ( Als )
I.Introduction
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a late onset neurological disorder characterized by motor
neuron degeneration in brain stem, spinal cord and primary motor cortex. There is no single
gene strictly associated with all ALS cases, the disease is thought to be caused by the interaction
of many genetic factors as well as environmental influences. Most of ALS patients have no family
history of this disease, familiar form accounts for only 5 to 10% and seems to be dominant in
most cases. The dominance and high heritability of familiar ALS (FALS) led to identification of
several high risk alleles of few genes (among those, SOD1, FUS, TARDEP, C9ORF72 are the most
frequent)
There are 3 main neuropathological findings associated with ALS. First is degeneration of the
corticospinal tract that connects axons from primary motor cortex to the motor neurons and
extensive degeneration of lower motor neurons. This is connected to the second characteristics,
which is loss of Bertz cells that are found in primary motor cortex and connect to the motor neurons.
The third characteristics is hypertrophy of glial cells that either lose their original neuroprotective
abilities or gain neurotoxic effects.
ALS usually starts in one part of a body (either a limb or bulbar region) and then slowly spreads
to the rest of the body by non cell autonomous or prion like propagation. A presence of protein
aggregates in the affected neurons was observed, but the nature of these aggregates

Sleep Restoration Theory
Nathan Skemp Rawl 12:20 4/21/17 The Function of Sleep Almost every known animal on planet
Earth spends a large portion of its life asleep. Humans who sleep an average of eight hours a night
spend about one third of their lifetime in this unconscious state of mind (Schenck). By logical
reasoning, all scientists of merit believe sleep is important since we spend an entire third of our life
participating in the activity, the disagreement between scientists occurs when discussing the
purpose of sleep. There are many theories as to why we sleep, the latest arguments revolve around
the restoration theory, brain plasticity theory, evolution theory, energy conversation theory, and the
dreaming theory. Recent research suggests the combination of two theories to accurately represent
the purpose of sleep, the restorative theory and the brain plasticity theory. These theories claim that
quality sleep promotes restoration processes within the body and brain, as well as the physical
development and growth of the body... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the brain plasticity theory was created and so widely accepted by experts within
psychology and other respectable related fields of science. However, there are other functions that
occur during sleep that aren t fully explained by the brain plasticity theory, purposes that become
highlighted by the restoration theory. The restoration theory of sleep claims that sleeping is
essential for revitalizing and restoring the physiological processes that keep the body and mind
healthy and properly functioning (Foster). This theory suggests that REM sleep is what allows the
brain and body to heal itself from damaged tissues, diseases, and toxins that may accumulate in the
brain or body during the day. This theory splits the brain into two functions, awake and alert or

Monterey Bay Experience Essay
In order to gain more knowledge and a better understanding of postcolonial discourses within the
context of the Monterey Bay area I conducted my field research at the Carmel mission. I decided
to do my field research relating to the carmel mission because I am interested in the
psychological effects Native Americans experienced during the creation of the missions and how
the missionaries affected them. In addition, other reasons why I chose this postcolonial issue is
because I wanted to gain more knowledge on the missions, since I was given a very vague
historical description in primary school. Lastly, I was curious in this topic because I wanted to
engage in multiple perspectives and to hear what individuals really knew about the mission.
Moreover, the Carmel mission was founded in June of 1770 by Saint Junipero Serra. The mission
was primarily built to convert natives, establish territory, and create stopping points along
California. Native american tribes such as the Esselen and other Costanoan tribes were the main
groups who lived in that area who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

supply ships. The natives were also having a difficult time adjusting to the strict lifestyle of the
missionaries. Native Americans did not only have to adjust to this new lifestyle but they also
encountered abuse. Physical abuse such as being whipped, burned, raped, and beated were all
known practices. In addition native culture, language, and spiritual practices were often forbidden
under the mission system. In an attempt to free themselves from this form of oppression and
unhealthy lifestyle some indians ran away. Unfortunately, running away from the mission was not
enough. The missionaries would bring back indians to the mission regardless of choice and they
would be punished for trying to

Soldiers Have Been The Most Significant Part Of An...
Ordinary Soldiers have been the most significant part of an armies structure throughout military
history. They have not only been essential in the continued development of warfare but have also
shown great determination when facing the hardest struggles in combat and an ability to complete
their objectives. However, even though the ordinary soldier continues to fight and to carry out his
orders, he is put through some of the hardest traumas and hardships that the world has ever seen or
known. As a result of this, people question why soldiers continue to risk themselves physically and
mentally in the affairs of others. Although soldiers have been put through extreme ordeals in
combat throughout militaryhistory, the ordinary soldier continues to fight for his sense of duty to
his country, his belief in the cause, and his comrades in arms; furthermore, these reasons
transformed throughout the centuries, as a result of influences such as military, political, and
societal.
Even though soldiers are constantly exposed to extreme trauma and ordeal, they still fight for a
sense of duty to their state. For example, French troops during the French Revolution fought for
their sense of duty to the establishment of a free France. This feeling of responsibility to the state
can be seen in Howard s WarIn European History when it is said that French troops were fighting
as free men to defend freedom (79). Also, a sense of duty to the state can be seen in ordinary
French soldiers

  • 2. The Southwest Blackout Of 2003 The Northeast blackout of 2003 was one of the most critical blackouts in the history which affected more than 50 million people in both the United States and Canada. The main cause of this disaster was a software bug in the energy management system used by FirstEnergy Corporation, located in Akron, Ohio. This is a perfect example of poor quality coding may led to a big disaster. For a perfectly planned power grid, the power generation of each region is matched with the power consumption within this region, so that the power lines will always carry a reasonable workload. If one power line fails to work, other parallel lines would have to carry extra power, which is bad for safety and may lead to fire. The power system operators are the ones... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And the generating plant don t know it either. Then, because the workload was assigned to other lines, several other lines in the region also declined to work for self protection, and the whole Ohio and Michigan got blackout short after. The company and other government departments noticed the problem, but hardly have anything to do at the time. The cascading effect is already unstoppable. Each generating plant can only separate their generators from the power grid to prevent the large current destroy their generators. So almost all the generating plants in northeastern United States and Ontario went offline, and the whole region got blackout. This happened in only 2 hours. Water pumps cannot work without power supply, so some areas also have water supply problem. And other services like public transportation (e.g. TTC streetcars), communication, and media (radio and TV stations) also affected. Some areas recovered from the blackout the same night, but most areas did not get power back until August 16th, two days after the accident. Both United States government and Canada government were criticized, and they adopted some policy to prevent future blackouts after it. Following the blackout, a thorough investigation of the energy control system was taken. GE s developers looked through millions of lines of code and log to find the bug, and it them weeks to finally locate the bug. The bug is known as a race condition in computer science, ... • 3. Essay on Reforming Canada’s Healthcare System A friend of mine went to the emergency department because she had severe pain in her right lower abdomen. She received a laparoscope and was notified that she required surgery immediately to get her appendix removed. While the on call anesthesiologist was caring for a mother in labour leaving her and other patients waiting for care. She waited several hours to get access to an anesthesiologist to receive medical care before her surgical procedure. After her surgery , the surgeon stated her appendix was really severe, and they were lucky enough to perform surgery before it ruptured. If she had waited longer her appendix could ve ruptured, and it would ve been very dangerous and life threatening. Based on this experience I will examine how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Challenges in Future Planning Extensive Wait Times for Surgeries Canada s health care system assures universality, portability, and accessibility; disappointingly, not all Canadians have access to specialists and facilities. Many patients face long wait times or do not have access to anesthetic and surgical care because the inadequate supply of anaesthesiologists for demand of Canada s aging population. For instance, a woman experiencing severe pain in her right lower abdomen may endure excessive wait time to receive pain relief and life saving care. However, surgical or other medical procedures can only be performed if patients have access to an anaesthesiologist. Despite government promises, and the billions of dollars funnelled into the Canadian healthcare system, the average wait time for surgeries in Ontario is approximately 14.3 weeks (Barua, Rovere Skinner, 2011). Waste of Tax Dollars Moreover, hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars are wasted since many Canadians do not have timely access to anaesthesiologists. Almost five million Canadians do not have access health care professionals, or they experience long waits to see specialists (Canadian Association of Advanced Practice Nurses, 2011). The shortage of anaesthesiologists and services not rendered appropriately is costing Canadians money as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Distributing Organs Distributing the organs among the patients should be done in an ethical way. Not everyone in need of an organ transplant gets what is needed for him because there is a shortage in organ availability. Actually, there should be a fair distribution plan and everyone should be aware of it. Most likely there are two types of distributive rightness. The first type is called equal access, which means the available organs should be fairly divided among the waited patients no matter the sex or the race, and the waiting time length should be considered. The first on the list be treated first. Another type of distributive justice is called maximum benefit, which means that the doctor give the priority to the patient who the doctor sees that he/she will live longer or the transplantation will be successful. It is a way to avoid wasting the organs because they are rare. UNOS encourages the transplant centers in the United States to use those methods in distributive the organs: the medical need, probability of success, and time on the waiting list.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many arguments that shows it has no fairness between the patients simply because no one has the ability to determine how long the transplanted patient will live after the surgery. How many years the organ will function. I believe that the second type is an unethical issue in the distribution because there is no equality between people, and it gives its back to the older people, and not giving them the opportunity to get the organ they are needed for. as a result, they may lose their ... • 5. Mask Dances of Bhutan Mask Dance (Cham) Classical dances in Bhutan are reflected in the religious mask pageants and ritual dances. With the introduction of Buddhism in the 8th century AD by Guru Padmasambhava from Tibet, ritual and mask dances gained roots in the Bhutanese system as part of the Mahayana Buddhist tradition. With the birth of the great Terton (treasure revealer) Pema Lingpa in the 15th century, the mask dances in Bhutan took firm roots and gained an impetus as part of the Bhutanese cultural life. The Ter Cham (treasure dances) and Pe Ling Ging Sum were the most famous of the dances that still continues to this day. There are many versions about the introduction of the Dramitse Ngachham. Most historians say that the dance was first introduced by Khedrup Kuenga Gyeltshen in Ogyen Thechog Choling monastery. This man was said to be a brother of Ani Choten Zangmo who settled at Dramitse after naming the place. Khedup Kuenga, while undergoing a retreat had a vision of three beautiful women who had the heavenly form, dressed in silken clothes with precious gems. These three heavenly bodies guided him to the abode of Guru Rinpoche where he witnessed celestial heroes and heroines performing a dance. After this incident, Khedrup Kuenga introduced the dance according to the prophecy made by Guru in his vision. The nineteenth century versions of the Dramitse Ngacham say that dance was also introduced in other parts of Bhutan by the end of nineteenth century. Today, the dance has evolved from a local event, centered on a particular community into an art form, representing the identity of the Bhutanese nation as a whole. Drametse Ngacham was also proclaimed as the masterpiece of the world intangible heritage in November 2005. Durdag Durdag is known as the dance of the Lords of the Cremation Grounds. On the external edges of a symbolic mandala where the assembly of the secret Tantric deities reside, there are eight large cremation grounds. • 6. The Grass By Cather Summary When Cather discusses grass she gets very detailed. Everywhere, as far as the eye could reach, there was nothing but rough, shaggy, red, grass most of it as tall as I. North of the house, inside the ploughed fire breaks , grew a thick set strip of box elder trees, low and bushy, their leaves already turning yellow. This hedge was nearly a quarter of a mile long, but I had to look very hard to see it at all. The little trees were insignificant against the grass. It seemed as if the grass were about to run over them, and over the plum patch behind the sod chicken house. As I looked about me I felt that the grass was the country, as the water is the sea. The red of the grass made all the great prairie the color of wine stains, or of certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They start by giving the definition of stalking as being generally considered as being one in which an individual, the stalker, stealthily tracks the movement of another individual or individuals. The authors then proceed on portraying the topic of cyberstalking. They show that cyberstalking can be understood as a form of behavior in which certain types of stalking related activities, which in the past have occurred in physical space, are extended to the on line world. By allowing oneself to use a lens when reading specific works, it allows the reader to interpret the effects of the themes and the changes throughout the writings. The goal of the critical lens is to seek to understand the behavior of characters or the society ( Post Colonialism, 2016). A few of the most popular themes used to view literary works are identity, oppression and power; applying this lens can give the reader a different perspective and experience while reading the writings. For the past couple of weeks I have been looking into horse therapy also known as Equine Therapy. So, I decided my Genius Hour question would be, What is Equine Therapy and how does it help people ? Before we jump into the main question, let s jump back to where it all started. Horse therapy dates back to around 600 b.c when the greeks rode horses for therapy. Later, in around 1946 equine therapy then was introduced in Scandinavia. Which then led to the North Americans beginning the handicapped riding which started around 1969. They soon recognized that riding horses or just being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They can help the individual build confidence, trust, and social skills. Horses may also deal with some relating issues so it makes it easier to build a connection with the horse and their handler. Horses only react to the handler s behavior and emotional status. Horses aren t there to judge your appearance or what happened to the you in the past they are just there to help in the present. Most people like this option because some people believe that they will be judged by a human therapist doctor and most of the patients know that the horses won t judge them on what they look like or been through. This helps people build self esteem and self confidence. Through the years children and adults who participate riding programs improve in physical and social function. Studies have shown that therapeutic riding has shown positive outcomes that change people s lives for the better. Some have been able to gain the function to walk and talk better then before or even for the first time. This is because of the socializing, movement, and the need for balance on a horse. Through movement with the horse and the interaction with the people that work there, children and adults also have improved in other things such as physical function, emotional stability and social interactions. Challenging activities help gain more balance and control, and posture as the horses shows the motivation towards the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare early in his career about two young star crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. It was among Shakespeare s most popular plays during his lifetime and along with Hamlet, is one of his most frequently performed plays. The 1968 film version of Romeo and Juliet is a British Italian romance film based on the tragic play by William Shakespeare. Olivia and Leonard told the story of Romeo and Juliet very accurately not only through their lines but with their body language. Viewers can really feel the emotional connection between the two. All the relationships between characters was spot on, my favorite being Lord Capulet and Paris. Although the acting throughout the film was very good, some scenes weren t as good as the others. The experience in the classroom was one of the biggest learning experience I have had thus far in the education program. The environment was very welcoming and the cooperating teacher cared about my success, which was very rewarding. Comparing myself as a teacher to the first few weeks in the classroom, to the last few weeks in the classroom, I would conclude that there was exceptional growth that occurred. I believe my classroom managementskills is something I improved tremendously throughout this field experience. Reflecting on my first lessontaught in the classroom at Charles, I was constantly talking over the students trying to get them to settle down and listen. After the first lesson, when meeting with the CT, the first thing she told me, was to pick a management strategy and stick with it throughout the rest of the semester. She noticed I was having a hard time getting the students to calm down once they would too rowdy. To avoid situations that involved having to yell over the students, I decided to do the three clap method that Mrs. Vance used frequently to get the students attention. The teacher claps three times and the students repeat, after the students clap, their voices are off. • 18. The Marine Insurance Act 1906 Introduction. The Marine Insurance Act 1906 ( MIA 1906 ) sets out a duty of utmost good faith between contracting parties in insurance contracts. This duty is unusual in English contract law and imposes a heavy burden on the parties. As a result, it has been the subject of much academic debate, culminating in statutory reforms. This essay will analyse the duty in both its traditional and revised form, focusing on whether its merits outweigh its weaknesses and whether it should be retained. The duty in brief. Utmost good faith ( UGF ) (or uberrima fides) imposes a requirement of honesty and of full disclosure between contracting parties. The distinction between good faith and UGF is unclear. It has been suggested that good faith is simply fair and open dealing between all contracting parties . UGF instead imposes a negative obligation not to make misleading statements as well as a positive obligation to disclose facts which might affect the other party entering into the contract. The roots of the duty of utmost good faith. The principle of uberrima fides in the insurance contract has been traced back to Lord Mansfield in Carter v Boehm, with the first judicial attempt to set out the duty. He based the duty of disclosure on the fact that insurance is a contract upon speculation , highlighting the imbalance of information between the insurer and the assured. The contingency is calculated on facts which are generally only known to the assured. This was regarded by Lord ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The government needs to do something because with the current proposal from President Obama, detainees would be moved ashore and abroad, which would not fix the problem. The problem is, what do we do with all these terrorists? If this proposal passes through, people will be worried and need answers about Gitmo. To sustain this enormous population, it is absolutely critical to optimize production of food and water usage. Furthermore, as extreme weather such as droughts and floods become more and more frequent due to climate change, conserving water and increasing food production will become invaluable to sustaining human life. Currently, many farmers in developed countries analyze near infrared imagery from drones and satellites to gain environmental data about their fields. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, as these services are extremely expensive (up to tens of thousands of dollars), they are not accessible to many farmers. In addition to being costly, stringent legal restrictions hinder the usage of this technology. The FAA prohibits the flying of agricultural drones for commercial reasons without a remote pilot airman certificate or the direct supervision of a person who possesses one. This further broadens the economic divide, requiring farmers to either pass an FAA approved exam and retake the test biannually, or pay monthly fees to hire an operator to fly the drone for them. Alternatively, free spectral data from satellites can also be used to analyze the health of crops in a field. One such source is the European Space Agency, which grants access to its satellite data through the Copernicus Programme. Although the data is free, the means to access it are not. A farmer would need a computer, high speed internet, and the skills to use software and manipulate the data into an interpretable form. All of these factors amount to a nearly insurmountable wall to simply be able to find out how healthy a field is. Furthermore, data obtained from satellite images have a fairly low resolution of 10 20 meters squared per pixel. I think that calling her father a Nazi is especially powerful not only because Sylvia Plath s father was alive during some of the Nazi atrocities as a child, but also because it s an act of appropriation, to take a nasty part of history and combine it with her poems, she wanted people to feel uneasy about her work. The poem if read aloud is like a nursery rhyme but not at all loving or kind, she s through with her dad because of all of the bad things he s done or because he wasn t a good father to begin with. Barely daring to breathe or achoo makes me think that she was afraid of him growing up, and when Plath says Marble heavy, a bag full of God, Ghastly statue with one grey toe I think she was trying to explain as a child what she thought her father looked like, a huge guy who looked like a god and acted like one except that he is frightening and looks like a ghoul. Every woman adores a Racist Plath says, describing her father s brutality and how it made him into an idol/god. Plath pushes beyond poetic tradition in her choice of metaphors, and by pummeling the reader s senses with the garish violence of her images. The poem has an ironically affectionate title for one that is so violent and shows such discord between the dead father, it s as if Plath has to exorcise her father out of the life ... Perhaps Eliot is observing a street prostitute, the В‘you of the poem, as she stands on the pavement among the withered leaves. В•It might be helpful to regard this poem, like the others, as a video post card of this moment, six o clock on the winter s evening. Eliot used words as his way of painting the picture. В•The time is pinpointed at 6 o clock precisely. В•Residents, living probably in one roomed apartments, are cooking their evening meal all at the same time. They are probably all workers living in flats. The word В‘passageways suggests the houses have been turned into flats for rent. Even though it seems a run down part of town, the residents can afford steak. В•By linking the scene here with the В‘stale smells of beer and В‘dingy shades in furnished rooms of В‘Prelude II and the В‘thousand sordid images of В‘Prelude III , one could assume that the Preludes are set in a red light district of a city. В•The smell of steak is a signal that day is done and night is beginning. Because of city smoke the day is described as smoky. Maybe the smoke occurs because people are cooking at the same time. The tiredness of the workers is suggested by the word В‘burnt out . Or is there a humorous suggestion that they over cook the steaks? This is due to the fact that people may place an importance on maintaining a positive impression for those around them. When this is threatened by an affair, one must repair damaged face (labeled facework), including apologies, excuses, and justifications (Afifi et al., 2001). • 43. The Scale Of Global Climate Disruption Essay The scale of global climate disruption is too great to conquer with only statements of commitment and generalized solutions, especially given that many nationally determined contributions (NDCs) are not enough to limit warming to 2 degrees. Given the massive scope of the changing climate system, addressing and solving the causes can be accomplished and observed more effectively on a smaller scale, such as provided by cities, businesses, and institutions of higher learning, which compose an impactful proportion of the larger body (state or nation). The only way to effectively integrate sustainable solutions broadly is to examine small scale successful measures in living laboratories, and to then implement those more widely and efficiently. This allows greater regions to tailor and adapt solutions to fit into their community. There needs to be integration on all levels of society and among the various stakeholders in order to have any hope of restricting warming to 1.5 2 degrees Celsius, therefor limiting the disastrous potential impacts. However, the initiative conservationist groups took to turn it into a garden was magnificent and reminded me of Shakespeare s New Place in Stratford upon Avon. All of the interiors are gone from the building, including any glass panes that were in the window, but it is a small garden for the public to enter for free. When the pH value of body fluids is below 7.35, the condition is called acidosis, and when the pH is above 7.45, it is called alkalosis. (Tortora, G., Derrickson, B., 2014) The major effect of acidosis is depression of the central nervous system. When the pH of the blood falls below 7.35, the central nervous system malfunctions, and the individual becomes disoriented and possibly comatose as the condition worsens. For example, the kidneys are not effective in compensating for respiratory alkalosis that occurs in response to hyperventilation triggered by emotions, which usually begins quickly and subsides within minutes or hours. However, if alkalosis results from staying at a high altitude over a 2 or 3 day period, the kidneys play a significant role in helping to compensate. Metabolic acidosis results from all conditions that decrease the pH of the body fluids below 7.35 and HCO3 levels are lt;22 mEq/L, with the exception of conditions resulting from altered function of the respiratory system. As hydrogen ions accumulate in the body fluids, buffers first resist a decline in pH. If the buffers cannot compensate for the increase in hydrogen ions, the respiratory center helps regulate the body fluid pH. The reduced pH stimulates the respiratory center, which causes hyperventilation. During hyperventilation, carbon dioxide is eliminated at a greater rate. The elimination of carbon dioxide also eliminates excess hydrogen ions and helps maintain the pH of the body fluids within a normal range. (Angus, 2006) If metabolic acidosis persists for many hours and if the kidneys are functional, the kidneys can also help compensate for metabolic acidosis. They begin to secrete hydrogen ions at a greater rate and increase the rate of bicarbonate ion reabsorption. Symptoms of metabolic acidosis appear if the respiratory and renal systems are not able to maintain the pH ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Holes Persuasive Essay After reading Louis Sachar s novel Holes then watching the film adaptation by Andrew Davis, I can without a doubt say that I enjoyed watching the movie more than reading the novel. I found the novel to be detailed, however, boring and unenjoyable due to its slow pace and confusing structure. When I watched the movie, I really liked the emotion and passion, the simplicity and clear structure and the entertaining and amusing action and comedy aspects. These are the factors that contribute to why I believe that the film Holes is more enjoyable than the novel Holes . Whilst reading the novel, I never experienced any passion or emotion. I felt that the novel was descriptive but just not captivating to audiences. When reading Holes I definitely found myself losing focus and interest. This may be due to the slow pace and difficulty to picture each scene realistically. Time after time, I found myself unengaged and unwilling to continue the novel due to its lack of emotional description. However, in the movie, actually watching the scenes be bought to life engaged audiences and, during major scenes in the plot, enhanced the audiences experience using drama, realism and passion. • 50. The Effects Of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis ( Als ) I.Introduction Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a late onset neurological disorder characterized by motor neuron degeneration in brain stem, spinal cord and primary motor cortex. There is no single gene strictly associated with all ALS cases, the disease is thought to be caused by the interaction of many genetic factors as well as environmental influences. Most of ALS patients have no family history of this disease, familiar form accounts for only 5 to 10% and seems to be dominant in most cases. The dominance and high heritability of familiar ALS (FALS) led to identification of several high risk alleles of few genes (among those, SOD1, FUS, TARDEP, C9ORF72 are the most frequent) There are 3 main neuropathological findings associated with ALS. First is degeneration of the corticospinal tract that connects axons from primary motor cortex to the motor neurons and extensive degeneration of lower motor neurons. This is connected to the second characteristics, which is loss of Bertz cells that are found in primary motor cortex and connect to the motor neurons. The third characteristics is hypertrophy of glial cells that either lose their original neuroprotective abilities or gain neurotoxic effects. ALS usually starts in one part of a body (either a limb or bulbar region) and then slowly spreads to the rest of the body by non cell autonomous or prion like propagation. A presence of protein aggregates in the affected neurons was observed, but the nature of these aggregates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By logical reasoning, all scientists of merit believe sleep is important since we spend an entire third of our life participating in the activity, the disagreement between scientists occurs when discussing the purpose of sleep. There are many theories as to why we sleep, the latest arguments revolve around the restoration theory, brain plasticity theory, evolution theory, energy conversation theory, and the dreaming theory. • 53. Monterey Bay Experience Essay In order to gain more knowledge and a better understanding of postcolonial discourses within the context of the Monterey Bay area I conducted my field research at the Carmel mission. I decided to do my field research relating to the carmel mission because I am interested in the psychological effects Native Americans experienced during the creation of the missions and how the missionaries affected them. In addition, other reasons why I chose this postcolonial issue is because I wanted to gain more knowledge on the missions, since I was given a very vague historical description in primary school. Lastly, I was curious in this topic because I wanted to engage in multiple perspectives and to hear what individuals really knew about the mission. Moreover, the Carmel mission was founded in June of 1770 by Saint Junipero Serra. The mission was primarily built to convert natives, establish territory, and create stopping points along California. Native american tribes such as the Esselen and other Costanoan tribes were the main groups who lived in that area who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Life became difficult because crops were difficult to grow and the missionaries heavily relied on supply ships. The natives were also having a difficult time adjusting to the strict lifestyle of the missionaries. Native Americans did not only have to adjust to this new lifestyle but they also encountered abuse. Physical abuse such as being whipped, burned, raped, and beated were all known practices. In addition native culture, language, and spiritual practices were often forbidden under the mission system. In an attempt to free themselves from this form of oppression and unhealthy lifestyle some indians ran away. Unfortunately, running away from the mission was not enough. The missionaries would bring back indians to the mission regardless of choice and they would be punished for trying to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Soldiers Have Been The Most Significant Part Of An... Ordinary Soldiers have been the most significant part of an armies structure throughout military history. They have not only been essential in the continued development of warfare but have also shown great determination when facing the hardest struggles in combat and an ability to complete their objectives. However, even though the ordinary soldier continues to fight and to carry out his orders, he is put through some of the hardest traumas and hardships that the world has ever seen or known. As a result of this, people question why soldiers continue to risk themselves physically and mentally in the affairs of others. Although soldiers have been put through extreme ordeals in combat throughout militaryhistory, the ordinary soldier continues to fight for his sense of duty to his country, his belief in the cause, and his comrades in arms; furthermore, these reasons transformed throughout the centuries, as a result of influences such as military, political, and societal. Even though soldiers are constantly exposed to extreme trauma and ordeal, they still fight for a sense of duty to their state. For example, French troops during the French Revolution fought for their sense of duty to the establishment of a free France. This feeling of responsibility to the state can be seen in Howard s WarIn European History when it is said that French troops were fighting as free men to defend freedom (79). Also, a sense of duty to the state can be seen in ordinary French soldiers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
