Steam Patched Bumble Bees
The rusty patched bumble bee (Bombus affinis) is an essential pollinator for the environment that is
currently not on the endangered or threatened species list. The rusty patched bumble bee is bigger and
stronger than the honeybee and plays an important role in the production of crops, such as cranberries,
blueberries, and tomatoes. As Doug Taron of the Chicago Academy of Sciences points out, No bees.
No fruit. Historically, this species was found in 29 states and 2 Canadian provinces. The rusty patched
bumble bee population saw a decline in population and distribution in the late 1990s. The bees
population has declined by 91%. The relative abundance of the species has declined from 8% to 1%,
and only 5% of the historical locations are currently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This agency has created this rule upon review of the best available scientific and commercial
information. Thus, if the rule is to be finalize, the effect would expand the Act s protections to this bee
species by placing it on the List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife. The proposed rule begins by
explaining the procedures the agency must follow under its enabling act, the Endangered Species Act,
as amended ( Act ). The Act requires the USFWS to promptly publish in the Federal Register upon
finding a species endangered or threatened throughout all or a portion of its range. The agency then
must make a determination on the finding within one year, as well as designate a critical habitat to the
maximum extent prudent and determinable. It is only through a rule that a species can be listed as
endangered or

On Euthyphro s Dilemma and Divine Command Essay examples
On Euthyphro s Dilemma and Divine Command
In Plato s Euthyphro, Socrates presents a fundamentally meta ethical problem to
Euthyphro by asking whether the pious or holy is beloved by the gods because it is holy, or holy
because it is beloved of the gods (Plato 219)? I will relate this question to the
Divine Command Theory of morality and discuss the philosophical implications associated with each
possible answer to the dilemma while demonstrating fallacies and inequalities within each.
Divine Command Theory (DCT) asserts that morality is somehow dependent upon God, and that
moral obligation consists in obedience to God s commands. Divine
Command Theory includes the claim that morality is ultimately based on the commands

Following these a priori presuppositions that God is both omnipotent and omniscient (as well as
intrinsically good), and that morality is ultimately dependent on God s commands, then it is sound to
reason that piety and moral goodness are implicit in anything God commands.
The argument may be made that my logic is circular and that to define what is morally good by that
standard is both flawed and fallacious. To this I rebut: How would I define good without presupposing
that God is the foundation of such goodness? I would argue that although I may have to have a map to
know where Dallas is, Dallas still has to exist prior to the map. Following that logic, God s goodness
would exist prior to the existence of finite, derived goodnesses, though conceptually or
epistemologically... (Moreland
90).
The first horn proposed to Euthyphro Are morally good acts commanded by god because they are
morally good, raises the question that if acts are commanded by God because they are morally good,
then there must be some independent force outside of
God governing what is good and what is not. If there is an independent force governingZellner 3 this
then God s will becomes arbitrary. Martin Luther adamantly argues against the possibility of this,
For it is not because he is or was obliged so to will that what he wills is right, but on the contrary,
because he himself so wills, therefore what happens must be right. Cause and reason

Boston Marathon Bombing Case Study
The Boston Marathon Bombing occurred on April 15, 2013. Three people died during the bombing.
Several were injured two hundred sixty more. (boston.com) The suspects were students at the
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Each suspect was arrested for the connection with the
Bombing on May 1, 2013. There were several witnesses during their case. The charges were severe.
Dzhokhar was ordered to pay restitution to the victims. There were a lot of law enforcement personnel
involved in the case. Investigative techniques were used to link the suspects to the Bombing.
Investigators had evidence to prove who set off the bombs during the marathon. Surveillance cameras
showed two of the suspects. Dzhokhar was carrying a bag and a phone. The bombs were set off
seconds away from each other. Two of the suspects were found by the police because they hijacked a
car while using a gun and when the suspect escaped he went into a gas station and contacted the police
and that s when they received all the information they needed to get the suspects into custody. There
were charges brought against Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was the person that planned the bombing. He and his friends faced thirty counts of
charges alleging that he and his brother set off bombs killing two women and an eight year old boy.
Dzhokhar s friends were charged with conspiracy, heroin trafficking, and obstruction of justice.
Azamat was a citizen of Kazakhstan and he

Family Vs Family
People often think that children are the photocopy of their parents. Biologically, the DNA of a parent
and a child is not exactly the same, but surely half of it is exactly matched. Our appearances and
personalities may be very similar with our parents, but we eventually develop unique characteristics as
we grow older. Such similarities and differences are caused by variation of reasons like environment,
inherited traits, beliefs, values, and even life experiences.
My father raised me in a typical Chinese way. He had taught me some values that I would like to pass
on to my next generation. Good reputation is highly important to our family. Giving your effort is not
just for your own self worth but to emphasize and adore the family s name. For example, if one
messed up, all of us will be affected. If one accomplished success, all of us get the credit. He says it is
because we are one family who carries the same last name, which I totally agree with him. He states
that family must share a helping hand in times of needs. I remember when my sister and I had a huge
argument, I decided to cut off the string between the two of us. My father reminded me, a family must
stick together no matter how difficult the situation is. He told me, There is no such thing as ex sister.
He really made me stop and think deeply about what he said, and he was absolutely right.
This is another value that learned from my father is good manners. He always reminds me, Good
manner will open doors that the best education cannot. He told me to start my day with a warm smile
and a friendly greeting, which really works everywhere at any time. The importance of saying please,
thank you, and I m sorry makes a big difference to other people s attitude. I was under the impression
of people with the higher degree have a better manners, but I was wrong. My former co worker, who
has a doctorate degree, always treated us extremely rude. She acted and talked like she is the best
person in the world; and she made us feel like we were stupid and less educated. However, she did not
realize how much employees complained about her attitude. After only few months, she ended up
leaving the company due to no one wanted to work with her anymore.

Judge Garland Case Study
On March 16, 2016, President Barrack Obama nominated U.S. Circuit Judge Merrick Garland to fill
the vacancy on the U.S Supreme Court. What could be President Obama strategies for doing so? How
this could affect the presidential elections and the candidates? How will this affect both the
Democratic and Republican parties? First, one would want to look at Judge Garland s background and
try and see why President Obama would choose to nominate him. Judge Garland quickly made a name
for himself by going after corrupted politicians and those who have committed violent crimes. For
example, one of Garland s cases was the bombing of Oklahoma City in the 1990s. The bombing
resulted in 168 deaths in which most of them were kids. In the end, Garland ... Show more content on

In scenario one, the candidate for the Republican Party has to win the election and it cannot be Trump
because, Trump is a nationalist whom has no conservative values what so ever. Trump would take the
GOP senate majority down with him. The Republicans strategist also hoped that the next president
nominates a justice that would limit Republicans defections from Trump. The second scenario is that
the Republicans risk running by stalling is that if the Democratic Party were to win the elections they
can withdraw Judge Garland as a nominee and replace him with someone who is more liberal, which
is something that the Republican Party does not want happening at all. One disadvantage of the
Republican Party stalling until the election is that they (the Republican) could cause themselves to
lose the election especially if it doesn t work out like how they (the Republican) plan it to be, since
within the past, a lot of members from both the Democratic and Republican parties have given him
(Judge Garland) high praised; not to mention, they (the Republican) even voted for him (Garland) to
be on the U.S. Appellate Court as mentioned earlier in the

The Health Group Will Take The Pcl M
Participants in the telemental health group will take the PCL M, which is a modified version of the
original PCL but modified for those in the military and veterans. The purpose of this measure is to
help confirm that the independent variables, telemental health and in person therapy, do not have an
effect on the dependent variable, which is the change in symptoms. This will be measured by the
variation between the two groups change score. The scores measured will be from the PCL M taken at
the beginning and end sessions of the CBT treatment. The PCL M is a 17 item self report measure that
is based on the DSM IV symptoms. It is frequently used for screening, aiding in diagnostic
assessment, and monitoring change in PTSD symptoms. It focuses on experiences served while active
in the military. Sample items include Repeated, disturbing memories, thoughts, or images of a
stressful military experience? , Having physical reactions (e.g., heart pounding, trouble breathing, or
sweating) when something reminded you of a stressful military experience? , and Avoid activities or
talking about a stressful military experience or avoid having feelings related to it? (Weathers, Huska
Keane, 1991). A 5 point scale is used as possible responses (1= not at all, 3=moderately, 5=extremely).

Shogunate Period Essay
The following essay will highlight the reasons that contributed to the success of the Japanese
Shogunate period, as well as factors that influenced in a negative way the Japanese history as a whole.
I will look at factors that made the social classes run as smoothly as they did. The reasons and benefits
of very few wars throughout the period and the effects on the education that people received. I will
also look at the negatives of the Shogunate period, yet depending on how you look at things, this essay
could mean a completely different thing to you and to others.

power, which will be discussed next. Underneath the emperor was the Shogun, they were many
shoguns throughout the Shogunate period. The shogun was the most important figure in Japanese
society due to his many responsibilities, he held the most political power, and he ran the military and
was a lawmaker. Below the Shogun was the daimyo. The daimyo were wealthy landowners, served
the shogun and were in charge of the samurai. Under the daimyo were the samurai. The samurai were
valued warriors; they swore allegiance to one daimyo and protected him. By serving the daimyo, they

Economic Crisis In Spain
Spain After experiencing a prolonged recession due the global financial crisis that began in 2008,
Spain started to experience a positive economic growth in 2013 that contributed to the end of the
financial crisis that the country was submerged in. Spain GDP (per capita) started growing slowly
from a $31,992.8 in 2012 to a $36,443.2 in 2016, almost a 0.9% increase (Refer to table for details). In
2013, the year following the crisis, the government successfully shored up struggling banks; and, in
January 2014, the government completed an European Union funded restructuring program for its
financial sector that increased private consumption. The unemployment rate rose from 24.78% in 2012
to 26.09% the following year. Staring 2014, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

for Spain for the following years set the country to achieve one of the fastest growth rates in the
Eurozone despite uncertainties in the political arena. The Central Bank expects the economy to grow.
Some economists expect GDP to expand by a small percentage, but enough to help the economy to
increase. Germany Despite the challenging economic environment within the European Union,
Germany continues to be one of the world s most powerful and dynamic economies. Business freedom
and investment freedom are strong. Long term competitiveness and entrepreneurial growth are
supported by openness to global commerce, well protected property rights, and a sound business
regulatory environment. The German economy has gradually emerged from the effects of the global
financial crisis, which had an acute negative impact both on Germany s public finances and on its
economic growth. Actions required to hold the eurozone together have taken a toll, and the more
recent migrant crisis has had huge political, economic, and societal impacts within the country.
Germany s GDP has been consistently increasing these past five years. In 2012 it was around $43,000,
and as of 2016 it has increased to almost $49,000. The national debt has

Explain the Constructivist Theory of Guidance

Explain Constructivist theory of guidance.

Constructivism is rooted from philosophy just like sociology, ethnography and cognitive psychology.
Already in the eighteenth century, the German philosopher Kant believed that a child s learning was
an interaction between the developing child and the environment. He believed that children
constructed their own knowledge and understanding about things. This is a constructivist view of how
children learn (Bruce, Meggitt Grenier 2010). The child centered constructivist approach to early

My Definition Of Success
Success. What does it mean? Successfulness is when you can live your life comfortably, happy, with
enough money, or make your life the way you want it. Someone who lives a comfortable, happy, life
with enough money to live is a success. A success could be anyone that tries in life. If that someone
tries and puts more than 100% into what they do, they will be successful. A success is someone that is
happy, comfortable, has enough money to live, and makes their life the way they want it to be. If you
are happy with your life, you are a success. Most of the time, you tried hard to make your life good.
You did what it took to make your life a happy life. Some people live under a rock waiting for
something good to happen and most of the time, that doesn t happen because they don t apply

you didn t have enough money to buy stuff that was more comfortable in your house. If you have
enough money to live, be comfortable and be happy, you are a success. If you have enough money to
live your life the way you want it to be, you clearly have applied yourself more than what you thought
you could do. You tried so hard you succeeded. Look at Warren Buffet, he tried so hard, and applied

Odysseus Justification Of The Suitors In Homer s Odyssey
In The Suitors Odysseus comes back from his journey to find an abundance of suitors in his home
trying to take his wife who has been continuously loyal through the 10 years he was away. Shortly
after Odysseus returns, Penelope retrieves his bow out of the storeroom and reports that she will wed
the suitor who can string it and afterward shoot an arrow through a line of twelve axes. All of the
suitors fail to do and then Odysseus with ease, strings the bow and sends an arrow and completes the
task , shooting the arrow through all twelve axes. Odysseus then grabs another arrow and proceeds to
shoot a second arrow through the throat of Antinous, and the killing of the suitors commenced.
Odysseus actions were justified because all of the suitors got what they deserved trying to take his

Taking a retribution is certain defended. In any case, taking one s life may appear to be barbarous, yet

Tension Between The Establishment Clause And The Free...
1. Explain the tension between the establishment clause and the free exercise clause of the First
amendment. Support your explanation with at least one example. First we must understand the
purpose of each of these clauses of the First Amendment. A common misunderstanding of the
Establishment Clause is that it safeguards individual rights. In reality the purpose of the Establishment
Clause is to limit the government s power in respect to legislating on matters that deals with respecting
an establishment of religion. . The Free Exercise Clause has only a sole purpose, the safeguarding of
individual rights, specifically related to religion. For all practical purposes there is no tension between
these two clauses. The Supreme Court has established that both clauses are independent in their
purpose and that neither one is more important than the other Conflict is not possible, for each clause
in its own way was a negative on powers that might have been implied from the original Constitution.
Two negatives cannot conflict. The religious rights of individuals and the ordering of relations
between government and religion while complementary, not contradictory are altogether different
enterprises. There are several historical court cases involving Jehovah s Witnesses and their rights
related to the First Amendment and its multiple clauses. In 1943 West Virginia State Board of

Videogames A Sport
Is the art of playing video games a sport? Video games are indisputably a sport. The biggest argument
over the past years has been that video games should not be considered a sport due to the lack of
physical exertion. People claim that a sport is an activity that has to do with your body physically
moving like basketball, football, etc. but take for instance chess. Chess is considered a sport in Asia,
Europe, and in America; in fact, there is even an Olympiad for chess, in which no physical movement
is involved. Just like any other sport, the art of playing video games include intensive training,
elaborate strategy, and elite competitions which are exactly what constitutes a sport. Gaming takes an
immense amount of practice and dedication.

Comparing Douglas Adams Difficulty With My Life-Style

the an action by explaining cause and effect is a never ending cycle. Adam s text is shows how people
actions can effect people/things and aren t consciously aware of how this effect people every day life.
There is nothing that can be done to prevent the effects of the actions that are being taken it is just a
part of life. Arthur said, I seem to be having a tremendous difficulty with my life style by Arthur

A rhetorial similarity between The Penultimate Peril and The Hitchiker s Guide is both texts argue that
cause and effect have a cycle that keeps going and certain things led to something and than back
again. Peoples actions determine the different outcomes that a person decides to do. Than the
outcomes have other outcomes and that continues to go in a circle. A difference between the two texts
is Adams thinks each individual cause has a specific outcome while Snickets thinks an action can have
many outcomes. In The Hitchiker s Guide the reader can see there is only one cause to why everything
happen he is more specific in his story. In The Penultimate Peril Snickets the reader can see the
mysteries could have been solved in many ways. Snikets follow the basic rule of cause and effect
which shows any effect can have multiple possible causes; the task of cause and effect is to determine
the correct one. Snicket made a metaphor to that when he said, the world is like a calm pond, and that
anytime a person does even the smallest thing, it is as if a stone has dropped into the pond, spreading
circles of ripples further and further out, until the entire world has been changed by one tiny action.
One action can have many possibles to be

Analysis Of Tidal Wetlands
In the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service s 130 year assessment of Status and Trends of Wetlands in the
Long Island Sound Area, the results indicated that there was a 48% loss of Tidal Wetlands from the
1880s to 2000s in New York. Even after protective legislation was passed in the 1970s, wetland
decline increased by 19% decrease in New York from 1970 to present day. (Basso, 6)
This decline in wetlands should be of concern to ____ as wetlands provide a variety of ecosystem
services to the general populace. They provide provisioning services by the providing habitats to

However, too much nitrogen is leading to the wetland s demise. While the main concern for the loss of
wetlands up until the 1970s was draining and filling, and while the laws created then focused on
reducing wetland destruction through urbanization, wetlands are still being deteriorated. Today, the
main concern is wetland loss created by increased amounts of open water on the marsh surface. The
literature suggests that on average, healthy New England marshes have 9% permanent open water on
their surface. However, an open water assessment indicates an average of 47% permanent open water
on the marshes studied (Kirwan 2013).
In Long Island, the marshes are wetter and vegetated areas are shifting from high marsh to low marsh
or to mud flat, which are far less productive and give fewer services than the salt marshes and other
high marshes that are supposed to be there. (Kirwan 2013

Cirque Du Soleil Thesis Statement
INQUIRY QUESTION:
How has Cirque du Soleil developed from a Canadian street group to a billion dollar industry that
changed Circus forever?
OBJECTIVE
I chose this topic because I think Cirque du Soleil is an inspiring and intriguing business that not many
people realize has Canadian roots. Also, this topic is interesting to me so I thought I would enjoy the
research process. I plan to elaborate on how the business started as two street performers, who formed
a billion dollar company that now tours the world. Not only has it progressed, Cirque du Soleil has

6. Colourful Costumes
In the area of costume design, Cirque du Soleil has really raised the bar.
The traditional circus had costumes for each performer, but costumes and makeup were typically very
basic. On the other hand, Cirque du Soleil custom costumes are designed to contribute to the overall
theme of each individual show. Cirque du Soleil s costumes have fancy details, colorful decorations,
and even lights! For example, in the show Amaluna, 130 costumes were worn, made of 800 different
materials. And if that s not enough, in the show Varekai, 130 costumes were made over the course of
33,000 hours, and a team of 6 works 250 hours weekly to maintain those costumes.
In addition, Cirque du Soleil has very dramatic makeup for each performer and each segment of the
show. From my interview with a former Cirque du Soleil performer, Marin Debruyn, I learned that
Cirque du Soleil also makes molds of performer s faces to create 3D printed masks.

The Compromise Of The Civil War
Without Compromise The issue with compromise is that it must give each party the sense they have
won something or at least not suffer a total loss. Why then, did the Compromises of 1820 and 1850
not prevent the Civil War? Because neither set of laws directly addressed the right to own slaves. A
country cannot have two sets of laws for two different regions. As we have seen with segregation and
gay rights, deferring to states laws only works to delay addressing the issue at hand. While no one can
say the Civil War was solely caused by the divisive issue of slavery, it is safe to say the North and
South were polarized. The Civil War had to happen to force the country to stop compromising and
declare a winner and a single set of rules to live by. In the beginning of the 19th century ,The United
States was already equally divided between free states and slave holding states. The Compromise of
1820 was passed by Congress merely to keep The Union in equilibrium, not to resolve the issue of
slavery. The 1820 Compromise created a line at 36 30 latitude line that would determine a boundary
for the Northern free and Southern slave holding states. This effectively permitted Missouri into The
Union as a slave holding state and created Maine, from northern Massachusetts, as free state. Bringing
the count of free and slave holding states to an even 24. As balance was struck it only stalled the issue
and in 1854 the Kansas Nebraska Act, which asked the State to determine their stance

Intercultural Interview Essay
For the intercultural interview, I decided to interview my friend Medelyn, a 19 year old female of
Honduran and Mexican descent. During the interview, I focused on her Honduran culture, as she was
born in Honduras, I asked her a multitude of various questions ranging from formalities in her culture
to gender roles to classism in her culture.. The interview lasted about twenty minutes, I asked her
about fifteen questions, and after she answered each question there would be a small discussion about

Individualist cultures, as stated in Chapter 3, Value personal rights and responsibilities, privacy,

Medelyn described Honduras as A place where being loyal to the community is valued and there is

given the description of community being valued rather than individuals, meaning that people care for
the welfare of the society. Context was the subject of my next question, figuring out whether
Honduras was a low or high context society was what I inquired from Medelyn. A lot of

Medea Feminist Analysis
I know indeed what evil I intend to do,/But stronger than all my [Medea] afterthoughts is my
fury,/Fury that brings upon mortals the greatest evils (Euripides 35). In Euripides play, Medea, he
shows what happens when one is victimized permanently for something that they had done in the past,
and shows the he shows the power of revenge. Jason is the victim in this tragic grouping of events.
Medea punishes him, because she feels that he wronged her, even though her gruesome plans were
much more sophisticated and horrid than Jason s acts against Medea. Some may argue that Medea
would be considered the victim of Jason s wrath and terrible acts against her. They may believe that
she was always innocent, and that everything bad that happened, ... Show more content on

In Medea s acts of rage, she victimizes Jason, and others around her. She was immune to the fact that
she was going to kill her children, because she was focused on getting revenge on Jason, and making
sure that he suffered. During Medea s encounter with Jason, Jason is shown slowly crumbling beneath
the pain and agony that Medea had placed upon him, by killing her children. At this point, Jason is
pleading for mercy, and begging for the children s bodies. You who have had the heart to raise a sword
against/Your children, you, their mother, and left me childless /You have done this, and do you still
look at the sun/And at the earth, after these most fearful doings?/ I wish you were dead (Euripides 43).
Jason had shown his weakness to Medea, and she took advantage of that by slaughtering her own
children, so that she would get revenge on Jason. This placed Jason in an even more vulnerable
position, because he had to live with no family or power, because Medea ripped it all away from him
in a matter of minutes. Jason s future had been brought to an abrupt stop, and Medea was to blame.
Medea became an outcast, because she not only murdered her children, she devised a horrific plan,
that called for her children to bring death to the princess and king. Medea had affected many people
negatively, including people in her own family. In her acts of anger or under her horrific plans, Medea
was bound to hurt someone. While Jason is looking for Medea after he hears about the slaughtering of
his children, he exclaims, For your own brother you slew at your own hearthside,/ And then came
aboard that beautiful ship, the Argo./And that was your beginning... /For the sake of pleasure in the
bed you killed them./There is no Greek woman who would have dared such deeds (Euripides 43).

In Voltaire s novella Candide, the main character s newly found wealth from an idealized Eldorado is
exploited by the world s fixation of greed that ultimately effects himself and others as he learns that
money cannot buy happiness. Candide is brought up amongst greed, reared in a castle in a small

ultimately influenced by this example of money and power. His journey into the world, after his

Eldorado s jewels create ambitious greed in Candide, overshadowing his main concern of surviving
for his Cunegonde. Candide truly believes in the philosophy that indeed everything is for the best and
Eldorado is the ideal place for this notion to flourish but he leaves this beautiful dream out of spite
because he cannot function in a society that cannot be bought (Silver 2). The very true world he
despises is actually the only place he has succeeded.
After leaving Eldorado with numerous sheep packed with goods and fifty loaded with gold, jewels,
and diamonds they are only left with two after a hundred days march that strained the convoy to its
limits of starvation (Voltaire 39). They reach a Dutch town where they learn that Miss Cunegonde is a
mistress to the governor in Buenos Aires and set out to find a merchant ship to set sail. The Spanish
merchant Candide and Cacambo hire to transport them tells them they must not return for fear of
being hanged and instead sends Cacambo with several millions to purchase her away. The men were

The Pros And Cons Of Poverty
Just ten years later, janitors once again marched for an increase in their wages. The city still had to
confront all the issues related to poverty and wages, so the workers decided that their best option for
them to be heard, was through a march (Meyerson, 2000). As the marchers began to walk down
Wilshire Boulevard from downtown to Century City, they experience many surprises. As they walked
the cars kept honking at them, not become of anger, but because they were trying to signal their
support for the movement (Meyerson, 2000). As the movement continued, there was a lot more
support then what they believed they would get. Elected officials came out and stood on the flatbed
truck leading the parade, to signal their support (Meyerson, 2000). This march was very different in
comparison to the one that had occurred 10 years prior, which had been violent. Furthermore, there
was a lot of influential people on their side, for example Deputy Mayor Manuel Valencia, who said
that the wages that the strikers are now earning are simply not a livable wage, not for anyone, not in
Los Angeles. (Meyerson, 2000). They had a great deal of support, not only here, in L.A., but also
abroad. There is an important line in the article by Meyerson, By making visible the lives of our
immigrant poor, by making plausible a solution to their poverty, they have in 10 short days improved
us all (2000). They stood up for their rights, and helped make L.A. a better city. It is interesting to see

was discovered that a vast majority of the individuals affected were either immigrant, therefore
generally a minority population, or were of poor or working class status (Rothman, 1994). Several
movements and directives were used during this time to attempt to stop the spread of tuberculosis,
such as, being outside in the clean air as much as possible, not drinking alcohol, and drinking plenty of

Essay about The Moral Permissibility of Lying
The Moral Permissibility of Lying
Missing Works Cited
The question of what constitutes morality is often asked by philosophers. One might wonder why
morality is so important, or why many of us trouble ourselves over determining which actions are
moral actions. Mill has given an account of the driving force behind our questionings of morality. He
calls this driving force Conscience, and from this mass of feeling which must be broken through in
order to do what violates our standard of right, we have derived our concept of morality (Mill 496).
Some people may practice moral thought more often than others, and some people may give no
thought to morality at all. However, morality is nevertheless a possibility of human nature, and a ...

This is because silence is not the truth, so by remaining quiet, that person is not telling the truth. A
more recognizable form of lying is outright lying, such as when a student claims to be working hard
on her philosophy paper when she has in fact been partying at Myrtle Beach for the last two days.
Deception is yet another form of lying, because by tricking another person into believing something
false, one is withholding the truth from that person. By withholding the truth, the truth is not being
told, so the deceiver must be a liar. Regardless of the form in which a lie is being presented, all lies
have one thing in common. By giving others false thoughts or perceptions of an event, lies can have a
strong influence on our free thinking. Therefore, they are all violations of human reason, something
that many people strongly respect. As we will see shortly, the ability to reason is also considered
valuable to both Mill and Kant, since it underlies both of their moral theories.
Utilitarianism is a consequentialist theory, as explained by the philosopher Mill. Given several
choices, a utilitarian would pick the morally correct choice by using the Greatest Happiness Principle
(487). By looking at whether the consequences of an action will produce the greater happiness for the
greater number of people than another action would, one can

Why Columbus Day Disgusting Summary

Columbus Day is Disgusting In 1491: New Revelations of The Americas Before Columbus, Charles
C. Mann attempts to rewrite the traditional narrative of the America s before the arrival of the
Europeans. By focusing on the mistakes of other writings, and creating a new concept of the New
World, as well as explaining the life of Puritans in New England, and human intervention in
landscapes, Mann does an impressive job at creating a readable, factual account of what life before
Columbus was really like. One of the most interesting, immediate things Mann says about the Indians
is that they broke one of their own rules out of desperation. There were rules in place about the Indians
not trading with the colonists, or letting them stay passed their welcome, but out of fear of going to
war with their biggest enemies, they abandoned, and almost reversed these rules. This alone says a lot
about the legitimacy of the stories believed of the Indians. Many tales of the Indians before Columbus
make the Indians seem uneducated, uncultured, and sparse in numbers. These stories have alluded to a

Why?
Temperature is an essential parameter because the index of refraction is affected by temperature. The
speed of light in a liquid will increase when the temperature increases. For instance, according to
Hanson (2006), when there is 1°C increasing in temperature, many organic liquids the index of
refraction decreases by nearly %0.05
What are the advantages and disadvantages of both instruments in measuring total soluble solid
content? Refractometer advantages: İnexpensive instrument
Refractometer disadvantages: Tedious calibration No instrument protocol Operator dependent
readings( limited accuracy) Long and difficult thermosetting (water bath is required after each
experiment)
Hydrometer advantages: Quick instrument Simple method Inexpensive instrument
Hydrometer disadvantages; Breakable glassware especially be careful when it is dropped into solution
Difficult to clean and dry it needs to be sure that it is cleaned well because not enough to clean can

  • 2. Steam Patched Bumble Bees The rusty patched bumble bee (Bombus affinis) is an essential pollinator for the environment that is currently not on the endangered or threatened species list. The rusty patched bumble bee is bigger and stronger than the honeybee and plays an important role in the production of crops, such as cranberries, blueberries, and tomatoes. As Doug Taron of the Chicago Academy of Sciences points out, No bees. No fruit. Historically, this species was found in 29 states and 2 Canadian provinces. The rusty patched bumble bee population saw a decline in population and distribution in the late 1990s. The bees population has declined by 91%. The relative abundance of the species has declined from 8% to 1%, and only 5% of the historical locations are currently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This agency has created this rule upon review of the best available scientific and commercial information. Thus, if the rule is to be finalize, the effect would expand the Act s protections to this bee species by placing it on the List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife. The proposed rule begins by explaining the procedures the agency must follow under its enabling act, the Endangered Species Act, as amended ( Act ). The Act requires the USFWS to promptly publish in the Federal Register upon finding a species endangered or threatened throughout all or a portion of its range. The agency then must make a determination on the finding within one year, as well as designate a critical habitat to the maximum extent prudent and determinable. It is only through a rule that a species can be listed as endangered or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. On Euthyphro s Dilemma and Divine Command Essay examples On Euthyphro s Dilemma and Divine Command In Plato s Euthyphro, Socrates presents a fundamentally meta ethical problem to Euthyphro by asking whether the pious or holy is beloved by the gods because it is holy, or holy because it is beloved of the gods (Plato 219)? I will relate this question to the Divine Command Theory of morality and discuss the philosophical implications associated with each possible answer to the dilemma while demonstrating fallacies and inequalities within each. Divine Command Theory (DCT) asserts that morality is somehow dependent upon God, and that moral obligation consists in obedience to God s commands. Divine Command Theory includes the claim that morality is ultimately based on the commands or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Following these a priori presuppositions that God is both omnipotent and omniscient (as well as intrinsically good), and that morality is ultimately dependent on God s commands, then it is sound to reason that piety and moral goodness are implicit in anything God commands. The argument may be made that my logic is circular and that to define what is morally good by that standard is both flawed and fallacious. To this I rebut: How would I define good without presupposing that God is the foundation of such goodness? I would argue that although I may have to have a map to know where Dallas is, Dallas still has to exist prior to the map. Following that logic, God s goodness would exist prior to the existence of finite, derived goodnesses, though conceptually or epistemologically... (Moreland 90). The first horn proposed to Euthyphro Are morally good acts commanded by god because they are morally good, raises the question that if acts are commanded by God because they are morally good, then there must be some independent force outside of God governing what is good and what is not. If there is an independent force governingZellner 3 this then God s will becomes arbitrary. Martin Luther adamantly argues against the possibility of this, For it is not because he is or was obliged so to will that what he wills is right, but on the contrary, because he himself so wills, therefore what happens must be right. • 4. Boston Marathon Bombing Case Study The Boston Marathon Bombing occurred on April 15, 2013. Three people died during the bombing. Several were injured two hundred sixty more. (boston.com) The suspects were students at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Each suspect was arrested for the connection with the Bombing on May 1, 2013. There were several witnesses during their case. The charges were severe. Dzhokhar was ordered to pay restitution to the victims. There were a lot of law enforcement personnel involved in the case. Investigative techniques were used to link the suspects to the Bombing. Investigators had evidence to prove who set off the bombs during the marathon. Surveillance cameras showed two of the suspects. • 5. Family Vs Family People often think that children are the photocopy of their parents. Biologically, the DNA of a parent and a child is not exactly the same, but surely half of it is exactly matched. Our appearances and personalities may be very similar with our parents, but we eventually develop unique characteristics as we grow older. Such similarities and differences are caused by variation of reasons like environment, inherited traits, beliefs, values, and even life experiences. My father raised me in a typical Chinese way. He had taught me some values that I would like to pass on to my next generation. Good reputation is highly important to our family. Giving your effort is not just for your own self worth but to emphasize and adore the family s name. For example, if one messed up, all of us will be affected. If one accomplished success, all of us get the credit. He says it is because we are one family who carries the same last name, which I totally agree with him. He states that family must share a helping hand in times of needs. I remember when my sister and I had a huge argument, I decided to cut off the string between the two of us. My father reminded me, a family must stick together no matter how difficult the situation is. He told me, There is no such thing as ex sister. He really made me stop and think deeply about what he said, and he was absolutely right. This is another value that learned from my father is good manners. He always reminds me, Good manner will open doors that the best education cannot. He told me to start my day with a warm smile and a friendly greeting, which really works everywhere at any time. The importance of saying please, thank you, and I m sorry makes a big difference to other people s attitude. I was under the impression of people with the higher degree have a better manners, but I was wrong. My former co worker, who has a doctorate degree, always treated us extremely rude. She acted and talked like she is the best person in the world; and she made us feel like we were stupid and less educated. However, she did not realize how much employees complained about her attitude. After only few months, she ended up leaving the company due to no one wanted to work with her anymore. ... • 6. Judge Garland Case Study On March 16, 2016, President Barrack Obama nominated U.S. Circuit Judge Merrick Garland to fill the vacancy on the U.S Supreme Court. What could be President Obama strategies for doing so? How this could affect the presidential elections and the candidates? How will this affect both the Democratic and Republican parties? First, one would want to look at Judge Garland s background and try and see why President Obama would choose to nominate him. Judge Garland quickly made a name for himself by going after corrupted politicians and those who have committed violent crimes. For example, one of Garland s cases was the bombing of Oklahoma City in the 1990s. The bombing resulted in 168 deaths in which most of them were kids. In the end, Garland ... In scenario one, the candidate for the Republican Party has to win the election and it cannot be Trump because, Trump is a nationalist whom has no conservative values what so ever. Trump would take the GOP senate majority down with him. The Republicans strategist also hoped that the next president nominates a justice that would limit Republicans defections from Trump. The second scenario is that the Republicans risk running by stalling is that if the Democratic Party were to win the elections they can withdraw Judge Garland as a nominee and replace him with someone who is more liberal, which is something that the Republican Party does not want happening at all. One disadvantage of the Republican Party stalling until the election is that they (the Republican) could cause themselves to lose the election especially if it doesn t work out like how they (the Republican) plan it to be, since within the past, a lot of members from both the Democratic and Republican parties have given him (Judge Garland) high praised; not to mention, they (the Republican) even voted for him (Garland) to be on the U.S. Appellate Court as mentioned earlier in the ... Support your explanation with at least one example. First we must understand the purpose of each of these clauses of the First Amendment. A common misunderstanding of the Establishment Clause is that it safeguards individual rights. In reality the purpose of the Establishment Clause is to limit the government s power in respect to legislating on matters that deals with respecting an establishment of religion. . The Free Exercise Clause has only a sole purpose, the safeguarding of individual rights, specifically related to religion. For all practical purposes there is no tension between these two clauses. The Supreme Court has established that both clauses are independent in their purpose and that neither one is more important than the other Conflict is not possible, for each clause in its own way was a negative on powers that might have been implied from the original Constitution. Two negatives cannot conflict. The religious rights of individuals and the ordering of relations between government and religion while complementary, not contradictory are altogether different enterprises. • 24. The Compromise Of The Civil War Without Compromise The issue with compromise is that it must give each party the sense they have won something or at least not suffer a total loss. Why then, did the Compromises of 1820 and 1850 not prevent the Civil War? Because neither set of laws directly addressed the right to own slaves. A country cannot have two sets of laws for two different regions. As we have seen with segregation and gay rights, deferring to states laws only works to delay addressing the issue at hand. While no one can say the Civil War was solely caused by the divisive issue of slavery, it is safe to say the North and South were polarized. The Civil War had to happen to force the country to stop compromising and declare a winner and a single set of rules to live by. In the beginning of the 19th century ,The United States was already equally divided between free states and slave holding states. The Compromise of 1820 was passed by Congress merely to keep The Union in equilibrium, not to resolve the issue of slavery. The 1820 Compromise created a line at 36 30 latitude line that would determine a boundary for the Northern free and Southern slave holding states. This effectively permitted Missouri into The Union as a slave holding state and created Maine, from northern Massachusetts, as free state. During the interview, I focused on her Honduran culture, as she was born in Honduras, I asked her a multitude of various questions ranging from formalities in her culture to gender roles to classism in her culture.. The interview lasted about twenty minutes, I asked her about fifteen questions, and after she answered each question there would be a small discussion about her answer. Individualist cultures, as stated in Chapter 3, Value personal rights and responsibilities, privacy, voicing one s opinion, freedom, innovation and self expression. , while collectivities cultures value community, collaboration, shared interests, harmony, the public good, and avoiding embarrassment. Medelyn described Honduras as A place where being loyal to the community is valued and there is shared blame and responsibilities. , which would mean Honduras is more of a collectivist society, given the description of community being valued rather than individuals, meaning that people care for the welfare of the society. In Euripides play, Medea, he shows what happens when one is victimized permanently for something that they had done in the past, and shows the he shows the power of revenge. Jason is the victim in this tragic grouping of events. Medea punishes him, because she feels that he wronged her, even though her gruesome plans were much more sophisticated and horrid than Jason s acts against Medea. She was immune to the fact that she was going to kill her children, because she was focused on getting revenge on Jason, and making sure that he suffered. During Medea s encounter with Jason, Jason is shown slowly crumbling beneath the pain and agony that Medea had placed upon him, by killing her children. At this point, Jason is pleading for mercy, and begging for the children s bodies. You who have had the heart to raise a sword against/Your children, you, their mother, and left me childless /You have done this, and do you still look at the sun/And at the earth, after these most fearful doings?/ I wish you were dead (Euripides 43). Jason had shown his weakness to Medea, and she took advantage of that by slaughtering her own children, so that she would get revenge on Jason. This placed Jason in an even more vulnerable position, because he had to live with no family or power, because Medea ripped it all away from him in a matter of minutes. Jason s future had been brought to an abrupt stop, and Medea was to blame. Medea became an outcast, because she not only murdered her children, she devised a horrific plan, that called for her children to bring death to the princess and king. Medea had affected many people negatively, including people in her own family. In her acts of anger or under her horrific plans, Medea was bound to hurt someone. One might wonder why morality is so important, or why many of us trouble ourselves over determining which actions are moral actions. Mill has given an account of the driving force behind our questionings of morality. He calls this driving force Conscience, and from this mass of feeling which must be broken through in order to do what violates our standard of right, we have derived our concept of morality (Mill 496). Some people may practice moral thought more often than others, and some people may give no thought to morality at all. However, morality is nevertheless a possibility of human nature, and a ... A more recognizable form of lying is outright lying, such as when a student claims to be working hard on her philosophy paper when she has in fact been partying at Myrtle Beach for the last two days. Deception is yet another form of lying, because by tricking another person into believing something false, one is withholding the truth from that person. By withholding the truth, the truth is not being told, so the deceiver must be a liar. Regardless of the form in which a lie is being presented, all lies have one thing in common. By giving others false thoughts or perceptions of an event, lies can have a strong influence on our free thinking. Therefore, they are all violations of human reason, something that many people strongly respect. As we will see shortly, the ability to reason is also considered valuable to both Mill and Kant, since it underlies both of their moral theories. Utilitarianism is a consequentialist theory, as explained by the philosopher Mill. Given several choices, a utilitarian would pick the morally correct choice by using the Greatest Happiness Principle (487). By looking at whether the consequences of an action will produce the greater happiness for the greater number of people than another action would, one can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mann attempts to rewrite the traditional narrative of the America s before the arrival of the Europeans. By focusing on the mistakes of other writings, and creating a new concept of the New World, as well as explaining the life of Puritans in New England, and human intervention in landscapes, Mann does an impressive job at creating a readable, factual account of what life before Columbus was really like. One of the most interesting, immediate things Mann says about the Indians is that they broke one of their own rules out of desperation. There were rules in place about the Indians not trading with the colonists, or letting them stay passed their welcome, but out of fear of going to war with their biggest enemies, they abandoned, and almost reversed these rules. This alone says a lot about the legitimacy of the stories believed of the Indians. Many tales of the Indians before Columbus make the Indians seem uneducated, uncultured, and sparse in numbers.
