AED Parts (cont.)
Step 1: Assessment
 Determine patient is over 8 years old or
    weight more than 55 lbs.
 The patient is unresponsive and not breathing
 Remove clothing from patient chest
 Ensure the skin site is clean and dry
 If necessary, dry and shave patient’s chest
 Open AED lid and wait until the LEDs are
    Lit
Step 2: Pad Placement
 AED will Prompt
 “Tear Open Package and Remove Pads”
 Tear Open Package
 Tear the package along dotted lines and remove the
        pads from package
 Leave the package attached to the pad wires
 AED will Prompt
 “Peel One Pad From Plastic Liner”
 Peel one pad carefully from the plastic liner
Step 2: Pad Placement (continued)

 AED will Prompt
 “Place One Pad on Bare Upper Chest”
 Place sticky side on patient skin on upper
right chest below collar bone above nipple to
        the right of sterum
Step 2: Pad Placement (continued)
 AED will Prompt
 “Peel Second Pad and Place on Bare
        Lower Chest As Shown”
 Remove pad from plastic liner and place it on
lower left chest, below and left of the breast
Pad Placement Notes

 The pads are non-polarized which
means they can be place in either
position as shown on the pad
    package
Step 2: Pad Placement (continued)
 When pads are place the AED will Prompt
 “Do Not touch patient. Analyzing Rhythm.”
 If the pads are not properly placed or become
disconnected at any time during the rescue the
        AED will Prompt
     “Check Pads”
 If this occurs make sure pads are firmly placed
on clean ,dry skin and that the pad cable is
        securely plugged into the AED
Step 3: ECG Analysis
 As Soon as the AED detects Proper pad
    placement the AED will Prompt.
 “Do Not touch Patient. Analyzing Rhythm”
 The AED is analyzing the patients cardiac
    rhythm.
 If a shock is advised the AED will Prompt
 “Stand Clear! Shock will be delivered in 3, 2,
        1.”
 If the rhythm changes the AED will Prompt
     “Rhythm Changed. Shock Cancelled”
Step 3: ECG Analysis notes
 If at anytime the AED Prompts”
 “Analysis Interrupted. Stop Patient Motion”
 Make sure no one is touch or moving the patient
 This can also happen if a strong electromagnetic
emitting device is nearby ( within 5 meters).
 Remove electronic device or stop excessive
motion when you heard this prompt
Step 4: CPR Mode
 After the AED has Deliver a shock or has
detect a non-shockable rhythm the AED
    enters into CPR mode
 AED will Prompt
 “It is now safe to touch the patient. Start CPR”
 30 compression to 2 breaths if patient is
        unresponsive
 If patient is conscious and breathing normally
leave pads on patient’s chest connect to AED.
Make Patient as comfortable as possible and
        await EMS personal to arrive
Step 4: CPR Mode
 After two minutes the AED will
    Prompt
 “Do Not touch Patient. Analyzing
        Rhythm”
 After this the AED will either
    administer another shock or advise
    to continue CPR to patient
 Follow the AED prompts
