CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer-Review Sheet
ADULT VICTIM
YOU SEE A VICTIM LYING ON THE FLOOR, WHO APPEARS TO BE UNCONSCIOUS.
 Check the scene, put on gloves.
 Check victim for consciousness. (Tap and shout.)
 If no response, call 911 and request an AED.
 Open the airway and check for breathing and a pulse for no more then 10 seconds.
Open the airway using the head tilt, chin lift method. Slide hand down to proximal groove of the neck to
check pulse. Pulse is checked on same side as rescuer.
 Check for severe bleeding, scanning the body.
 If a pulse is present, but NO BREATHING give ventilations causing chest to clearly rise.
For an adult, give 1 breath every 5 seconds.
 Continue this for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, re-check pulse & breathing.
 If NO PULSE begin CPR (30 compressions, 2 breaths)
 Continue giving CPR until one of the following occurs;
- You notice obvious signs of life
- An AED is READY to use
- Another trainer rescuer takes over
- More advanced medical personnel take over
- You are presented with a valid Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order
- You are too exhausted to continue
- The scene becomes unsafe
If at any time, a Breath DOES NOT go in
 Reposition the airway before giving the next breath.
 If Breath STILL does not go in……….
 Begin CPR
 Before each set of breaths, look in the victim’s mouth and if you see an object, remove it.

AED arrives and is ready to use
 Place AED on floor on the same side of the victim as you are on.
 Turn on AED
 Cut open shirt
 Wipe chest dry
 AED pas are placed on victim’s chest (upper right, lower left- 1 pad at a time) – from victims
perspective
 AED analyzes: Rescuer waves arm over victim, says” analyzing stand clear”
INSURE THAT NO ONE (INCLUDING YOURSELF) IS IN CONTACT WITH VICTIM OR AED.
PADS/AED ARE NOT MOVED OR TOUCHED DURING ANALYZE.
SHOCK ADVISED
 Rescuer waves arm over victim, says, “Shocking, stand clear”
 Rescuer pushes SHOCK button
 AED analyzes: Rescuer waves arm over victim, says” analyzing stand clear”
INSURE THAT NO ONE (INCLUDING YOURSELF) IS IN CONTACT WITH VICTIM OR AED.
PADS/AED ARE NOT MOVED OR TOUCHED DURING SHOCKING.

NO SHOCK ADVISED
 Begin CPR
PADS ARE NOT REMOVED ONCE APPLIED
