Zoll M-series AED
Rapid response systems use the zoll m-series
Please note
blue band that
runs along the
top of the
machine
Zoll 3 step semi automatic defib
On the top of the machine you will find a blue band(see below) this will help you to remember the
sequence of steps you will follow .Rapid response systems follow The Resuscitation Council (UK)
guidelines which you will find on the next slide this is our protocol for BLS with AED and we will follow
these protocols at all times.
If alone use radio to call
medical team/team to then
respond to your location
calling for ambulance on
route.Member of team calling
ambulance will arrange for
someone to meet the crew
and guide them into the
arena/location the Response
team will also make sure all
equipment needed will be
taken to your location eg
response vehicle driven into
arena.
Cardiac arrest plan for David Broomes and other outdoor event venues
If first person on scene has AED with them and
the patient is unresponsive and not Breathing
normally. start cpr until a trained person arrives to
continue chest compressions so you can set the
AED up.
Attach Electrodes
Rapid response systems use Stat-padz electrodes this are Multi function pads so please note that we use
the DEFIBRILLATION ONLY placement diagram.Make sure the pads are in date and KEEP all
packaging.
Defibrillation only
placement diagram
Expiry date
Attach Electrodes (AED bag contains Towel, razors and tough cuts)
Step 1 (turn on)
The unit will beep 4 times to indicate that it has
passed the power-on self-test. If no electrodes
have been attached to the patient and connected
to the M Series, an “ATTACH PADS” message
and voice prompt will be issued.
Please note that the video shows “CHECK PADS”
message as no pads were attached to a patient as
this is a training video.
For Biphasic units shock number 1 is set at 120
joules, shock 2 is set at 120 joules and shock 3
and up is set at 200 joules
Step 2 (Analyze)
Press the ANALYZE button to begin analysis of the patient’s ECG rhythm. The device announces and
displays a “STAND CLEAR” message.
If pads have not been properly connected to the patient, a “USE PADS” message will be displayed and
analysis will be inhibited.
An “ANALYZING ECG” message is then displayed for up to 12 seconds while the patient’s ECG is
analyzed.
A patient must be motionless during ECG analysis. Do not touch the patient during analysis. Cease all
movement via stretcher or vehicle before analyzing the ECG.
Once the analysis is completed, the unit indicates whether or not a shock is advised. When a non-
shockable rhythm is detected the unit displays a “NO SHOCK ADV.” message. Immediately check pulse
and breathing and resume other treatment per protocol. If the patient’s rhythm is shockable the unit will
display a “SHOCK ADVISED” message. The defibrillator will begin charging automatically to the
preconfigured energy setting and display a “CHARGING” message. When charging is completed the
monitor displays the energy level to which the defibrillator has been charged, “XXXJ READY”.
Step 3 (Press shock)
Warn all persons in attendance of the patient to STAND CLEAR prior to defibrillator discharge. • Do not
touch the bed, patient, or any equipment connected to the patient during defibrillation. A severe shock can
result. Do not allow exposed portions of the patient's body to come in contact with metal objects, such as a
bed frame, as unwanted pathways for defibrillation current may result.Once the unit has charged to the
selected energy, the SHOCK button will illuminate and the “PRESS SHOCK” message will be announced
and display. A continuous tone will sound for 10 seconds, followed by an intermittent beeping for 5 seconds.
The shock must be delivered within this 15 second interval or the defibrillator will disarm itself. Press and
hold the illuminated SHOCK button on the front panel until energy is delivered to the patient. Observe the
patient or ECG response to be certain that the shock has been delivered.Continue cpr for 2 minutes before
re starting analysis.
Step 3 (Press shock)
Shockable Rhythms
(just for information)
Normal sinus rhythm
Your Turn
In groups with one person performing CPR practice placing pads then
1. Turn on AED
2. Analyze
3. Press Shock
