STARTER: 
 Write down the meaning of the word stereotype in your own words: 
Stereotype is when someone or people have an image of how someone act, 
dress and talk like an example of this is a Peckham teenager most people 
would think that they carry knives and they don’t care about their education.

MAIN TASK 1: Describe each characteristic to show the difference 
between this media stereotype and a real teenager.

Speech: Uses lots of slang 
and offensive words. Not 
very articulate and often 
does not make sense.

Appearance: Wears

hair, also they don’t 
look like they care.

Extension 1 – Stereotypes and reality: 
1. Which negative characteristics of teenagers have been exaggerated in 
Vicky Pollard? 
- In the short clip of her she’s seen very rude, doesn’t care, also she 
doesn’t respect her teacher. 
2. Explain in your own words how you are different to a ‘stereotypical’ 
teenager like Vicky Pollard? 
- I like to try my best in my education at school because I know that 
some people who are less fortunate don’t go to school because they 
can’t afford it. I wouldn’t really be rude to the teachers because I 
know the consequences of doing that. 
Extension 2 – Stereotypes across different media 
areas 
(Promotional picture of 50 cent) 
Which negative characteristics of young black males have been 
exaggerated in this stereotypical image? 
- Stereotypes of characteristics to a black young male is that they expect 
them to carry guns/knives and also that there rude, doing drugs, braking 
the laws, there a lot of stuff against black males. 
How does this stereotype differ from reality? 
- I think that there kind and loving to their families if they have some.

  • 2. MAIN TASK 1: Describe each characteristic to show the difference between this media stereotype and a real teenager. You Aisha Speech: Uses lots of slang and offensive words. Not very articulate and often does not make sense. Anything else: Appearance: Wears clothes that are not presentable and messy hair, also they don’t look like they care. Body language: they look care about education, would rather be doing something else and rude. Appearance: Casual dressed but wears uniform to school. Anything else: Body language: Speech: Some slang but you can understand what everything said is and what they’re saying.

Which negative characteristics of teenagers have been exaggerated in Vicky Pollard? - In the short clip of her she’s seen very rude, doesn’t care, also she doesn’t respect her teacher. 2. Explain in your own words how you are different to a ‘stereotypical’ teenager like Vicky Pollard? - I like to try my best in my education at school because I know that some people who are less fortunate don’t go to school because they can’t afford it. I wouldn’t really be rude to the teachers because I know the consequences of doing that. Extension 2 – Stereotypes across different media areas (Promotional picture of 50 cent) Which negative characteristics of young black males have been exaggerated in this stereotypical image? - Stereotypes of characteristics to a black young male is that they expect them to carry guns/knives and also that there rude, doing drugs, braking the laws, there a lot of stuff against black males. How does this stereotype differ from reality? - I think that there kind and loving to their families if they have some.
