STARTER: 
 Write down the meaning of the word stereotype in your own words: 
The meaning of stereotype is an opinion on something or someone just by the way it 
looks, walks, talks etc. 
MAIN TASK 1: Describe each characteristic to show the difference 
between this media stereotype and a real teenager.

Speech: Uses lots of slang 
and offensive words. Not 
very articulate and often 
does not make sense.

Extension 1 – Stereotypes and reality: 
1. Which negative characteristics of teenagers have been exaggerated in 
Vicky Pollard? 
That teenagers are aggressive and don’t care about other people’s 
feelings and that teenagers always get themselves into sticky situations and 
get involved with the wrong crowd. 
2. Explain in your own words how you are different to a ‘stereotypical’ 
teenager like Vicky Pollard? 
I’m different to Vicky pollard because I’m not that aggressive like she is and 
my attitude is not as bad as hers is really bad. 
Extension 2 – Stereotypes across different media 
areas

- Which negative characteristics of young black males have been 
exaggerated in this stereotypical image? 
Negative characteristics are that they think they are always carrying 
weapons and that they are aggressive and in gangs and always go 
down the bad path and do bad stuff. 
How does this stereotype different from reality? 
It’s different from reality because it’s not just one race that can be like 
that it can be all different races all different colours
