SOME BENEFITS OF VIDEOCONFERENCING
In addition to bringing experts into the classroom,
interactive videoconferencing has other benefits.
Videoconferencing appeals to students' different
learning styles; students who are visual and
auditory learners can benefit.
Using the technology allows multiple classrooms at
various locations to collaborate while learning
about other cultures from primary sources.
Videoconferencing increases many students'
motivation to learn.
Students are able to practice and improve their
presentation and communication skills.
Students improve their research skills as they
prepare for the conferences.
Students practice graphing and other skills as they
create pictures, graphs, or drawings on whiteboards
for use during videoconferences.
Starts by laying out some of
the benefits of video
conferencing.
4. Plan your conference for early in the day so the Internet is less
congested.
Explain to everyone in your building that you need all the bandwidth
you can get. Request they stay off-line during your scheduled
conference.
Decide on the placement of students on camera. You will need to use
an external microphone due to their distance from the computer.
Use a direct connection to your partner if possible. Experiment with
their calling you and then your calling them; the connection may
vary.
Do trial runs with your students, so everyone knows when to speak
and when to listen. You might do this within your building; it is a
great way to share problem-solving activities or to do a remote
spelling bee.
Plan for the worst! If the server is down, postpone. Running your e-
mail program in the background is a good idea, also having a
telephone at your disposal with all the participants' numbers is
helpful.
Beware of unexpected incoming hook-up requests when you are on-
line; if students are present, choose not to answer incoming
requests.
Also offer some
helpful hints for
using video
conferencing.
5. Education World offered an written by Hazel
Jobe article about video conferencing that I
thought was more written for teachers who
want to try it in their classrooms as opposed
to trying to get people everywhere to use it.
It used a small case study about a teacher
who had used it with great success, showed
what the benefits of it were(but not the
negatives or problems with it), and then
gave you some resources where you can
acquire the technology if you choose to try
it. All in all it is a good article that gives some
good advice on how to use video
conferencing effectively in the classroom.

How Video Conferencing Can Support
Education
Video conferencing technology is all the rage among
corporations. Recently educational facilities have begun taking
advantage of video conferencing technology to support
learning and education. Video conferencing equipment can
help facilitate instruction and provide distant learners with a
host of resources and access to content providers, teachers,
librarians and more.
More and more teachers are adopting video conferencing as a
method of enhanced communication and instruction. Many
California schools are using video conferencing to connect
with one another and produce networks carrying large
volumes of video and text data to educational facilities,
teachers and students. Other people that benefit from video
conferencing technology include librarians who can use video
conferencing to develop strategies, provide resources and
improve the quality of their service and delivery.

education can support
education.
7. Video conferencing And Learning
Video conferencing facilitates learning by allowing
remote or distant learners to meet regardless of their
location. Students can take classes at multiple
universities. In essence classes that are not available at
one location may be available at another through video
conferencing. Video conferencing can also benefit non
traditional students who are not able to attend classes
during normal hours.
Video conferencing can also be used as a career or
employee training tool. Many colleges are now
collaborating with local businesses to offer students
certification and business training. Expert subject matter
delivered from individuals in the field is easily delivered
to students using this new technology. Student can also
take advantage of mentoring services offered by
companies in distant locations using video conferencing
technology. The possibilities are virtually endless.

how video conferencing
incorporates into learning.
8. Template Ready had an article written by Frank Owen
about how to incorporate video conferencing into the
classroom and making it a part of learning. It is not a long
article and does not have an overwhelming amount of
information but it does focus on not letting the technology
become the classroom but making a tool for learning.
What attracted me to this article was the website. It gave
many resources to other related topics and also gave
websites on projector reviews which I thought was very
helpful and thoughtful.

Recently, the videoconference has begun to
use with educational ends. Students,
teachers, librarians, content providers, even
the parents can share the same classroom,
getting a good relationship at a very low cost.
This method is widely used in college but it is
using at high school too. Now, using more
videoconferencing it enhances the
communication, training and instruction. The
class becomes into a dynamic learning way.
The intro to the article
summarizes well what the
article is about.

videoconferencing.
11. ArticlesBase.com featured an article that on how video
conferencing adds to education and that is why I like
this article because it again focuses on video
conferencing adding to the educational experience and
not be the educational experience. It listed what it
thought were the benefits and also gave many
resource links to acquire the technology to start video
conferencing. It also talked heavily about what
companies are doing to help schools get the
technology to start video conferencing.
12. All three of these articles were similar in that they do not want video
conferencing to become education but they do think it can enhance the
experience of education by exposing students to different cultures and
experiences that they would not normally have. The other impressive
thing to me is that all three articles offered ways for teachers or schools
to acquire the technology and they even offered reviews on different
brands. The only downside to the articles were they were very one sided
and did not present any of the challenges that video conferencing can
present which to me gives an unfair view of video conferencing. I am in
favor of using video conferencing and I think it could enhance the
educational experience of every student in every part of the world. It
does have its challenges and those have to be known and understood
before using it but the benefits far outweigh the negatives.
