Webster’s Dictionary: Artistic or intellectual
inventiveness
Creativity involves the generation of new ideas
Brings into existence something new.
Creativity as the act of turning new
and imaginative ideas into reality
A "new" idea is a combination of
old elements.
' It is your ability to combine
ideas in a unique way or to make
useful associations among ideas.
"There is virtually no problem
you cannot solve, no goal you
cannot achieve, if you know how
to apply the creative powers of
your mind, like a laser beam, to
cut through every difficulty in
your life and your work."
Individual Creativity
Creative people can be said to have:
A particular Style
Originality
Competence
Experience
Determination
Flexibility
Positive outlook
Creativity in Organization
“Freedom is the greatest when the
ground rules are clear. Chalk out
the playing field and say, Within
those lines, make any decision you
need.” - Dick Brown, chairman
CEO of EDS
Thus till the time the initial idea
gets implemented, it would have
gone through a number of
hurdles.
An originator comes up
with a creative idea
At each level of management,
the idea gets pruned and
refined
PROCESS OF CREATIVITY
Preparation:- Creative ideas do
not come out of thin air.
Preparation is an important
condition for creativity.
Preparation involves developing
a clear understanding of what
one what one wants to achieve
through a novel solution.
Incubation:- Incubation is
a process of reflective
thought and is often
conducted subconsciously .
Process of count……..
Insight :- Individuals experience insight at some point during
the incubation stage. Insight refers to the experience of
suddenly becoming aware of a unique idea.
Verification :- Ideas are generated at the insight-stage. But
coming up with ideas is one thing, and verifying whether they
are of any value is quite another.

Conditions of Creativity
Organizational Culture:- Openness to new Idea, friendly
supervision, team building, participative decision making.
Diversity:-When companies are staffed by people from diverse
ethnic and cultural groups, they are bound to think differently
about the situation they face.
Exposure:- Exposing employees to varying kind of experience,
such as foreign assignments, seminars, or extended leaves help
enhance creative thinking.
Time and Resources:- It is no secret that people tend to be
more creative when they have adequate funds, material, facilities,
information, and time.
Types of Creativity
Inventive
 addresses a worthwhile problem
 novel and appropriate solution
Expressive
 Illustrates the creator’s emotions and aesthetics
 original and valuable
Inventive Creativity
Exhibited in mathematics,
science, and social arenas
Recognizes and identifies
problems that may or may not
be apparent to others,
When solved, result in an
improvement in the domain
INVENTIVE CREATIVITY
Saves and improves lives
INVENTIVE CREATIVITY
May produce an intangible product--such as a social
movement
Mohandas Ghandi
Martin Luther King, Jr.
WHAT OF EXPRESSIVE CREATIVITY?
The impetus for the
arts
Results not from the
recognition of a
problem,
But from the need to
communicate with
others and/or express
oneself
NOT REAL DICHOTOMY
INVENTIVE EXPRESSIVE
Combination-- a
new menu item
makes use of an
abundance of a food
(inventive)
takes care to make the
new item as appealing
to the senses as possible
(expressive).
EXPRESSIVE CREATIVITY HELPS US UNDERSTAND
OUR WORLD
By using world events as
the subject matter of the
creations
For example, the
Spanish Civil War inspired
these:
EXPRESSIVE CREATIVITY
Helps us deal with the
stresses of modern life
Maya Angelou
wrote about the
racism and rape
she suffered in her
life in I Know Why
the Caged Bird
Sings
EXPRESSIVE CREATIVITY
Helps us to express the anguish, longing, and loneliness we
sometimes feel, and to relate to others
According to Torrance,
“When a person has no learned or
practiced solution to a problem,
some degree of creativity is
required”
If someone tells you
that you’re not creative,
tell them to go to hell.
Everyone in business
is creative.
