1. Question 2: How
does your media
product represent
particular social
groups?
BY: JONATHAN NEWTON
2. Target Audience
The target audience I choose in pre production was a person who is
male and in the age range of between 16 and 25 because I found
out that this age range likes action movies the most.
3. Costume
I choose my actor to wear costume which
matched what my target audience would
normally wear, this was so that they could
relate more to my actors and be more
interested in the film. They both wore
hoodies because this is one of the most
popular items of clothing that a male can
wear in the UK.
They are both wearing blue jeans because
jeans are very popular and this again
makes my audience able to relate to the
actors.
I would say I have challenged convention
slightly in this area because it is very rare
that in a interrogation situation actor were
cloths which are casual, however I feel by
breaking this convention I have been able
to make my media product represent my
target audience better.
4. Actors
I used actors which were are in my
target audience this makes my film
more relatable to the audience and
making me able to represent my
media product to the social groups I
want. I have conformed with
convention because it is very popular
in the world of film for casting director
to use main actor which are in there
target audience
5. Mise-en-Scene
Set: I choose a school class room as the set for my 2 minute film. I
know this breaks the conventions of a action film interrogation
which is usually set in a police cell or warehouse. But I felt that I
would be able to represent my target audience better because
they find this environment more relatable because they are in a
learning environment for most of there life's at this age, at the same
time as it being slightly odd this could keep them more interested
because the first 2 minutes of a movie are always key to give the
feeling and general theme of the movie which if done right can
lead to your audience being interested for longer. Due to budget
constraints I wasn’t able to get a better set but if I was able to have
the budget and the transport available I would of filmed in a better
location which is less school like.
6. Situation
The social group I’m trying to
represent could also relate to
the situation which Derick finds
himself in were he is being
under arrest. There is a
common stereotype that the
age range and gender most
likely to be arrested is make
and 16 to 25, so my target
audience could be a able to
relate to this section of my
movie.
7. Overall: conventions
I feel I have challenged convention too much in my media product
therefore I feel that my social group I want to be targeting want get
my movie, for example the idea of using a class room as a set didn’t
really work if I was to do this again I would of added in a line which
made it clear there was a real reason to why they were in a class
room this would of made it clearer and my use of Mise-en-Scene
better making my product represent the social group I wanted
But in the other hand I have also included parts which are following
conventions such as my actor which are in the target audience I
want. Also the acting is what would be excepted of a action
convention as well as the script, but my Mise-en- Scene has let me
donw
