EVALUATION QUESTIONS
3. WHAT IS THE DEMOGRAPHIC OF YOUR TARGET
AUDIENCE?
The targeted age group for my magazine is aged 11-20. The gender I
am targeting my magazine at is females. The targeted ethnicity is
White British. The social class is both C2 (Lower Middle Class) and
D (Working Class). To sum up, my demographic is White British
females, aged 11-20 who are of a lower social class.
4. HOW DID THE GENRE OF YOUR MAGAZINE
ATTRACT THEM?
I would stereotypically associate pop music with this demographic, so
this would attract them anyway. I added in other points of interest like
fashion to make my magazine specifically attractive to this group of
people.
5. WHAT IMAGES DID YOU TAKE, USE AND THEN
EDIT TO ATTRACT YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE?
I took a variety of images, all using different shot types and costumes.
This is typical of a magazine shoot, as they would use different
images to portray different messages. The cover image I used was a
long shot, which showed the whole of my model. This is as magazine
images are typically “fashion shots” where they show the
clothes/accessories of the model to advertise them. My model was in
a yellow summer dress, with a floral belt and black heels. She then
changed into a floral dress for the contents page image. The shot
was a medium close up. I did this to show the model closer up,
giving the impression of being “closer” to the celebrity. It also showed
a difference between the first shot and this one. The last shot I used
was a wide shot, as the model was sitting down, making the frame a
lot wider to fit the requirements of the double page spread. The
model wore a polka dot dress, inspired by the 50’s style of costume.
These show a range of different styles/messages that the magazine
has portrayed throughout the images.
6. HOW DID YOUR CHOICE OF MODELS
CONFORM/SUBVERT STEREOTYPES OF THE MUSIC
GENRE THAT YOU CHOSE?
The actual model I chose for my images conforms to my music genre,
as the typical celebrity associated with pop music is young women.
This is because women aspire to be them, and men aspire to be with
them, so it attracts all audiences. However, with my demographic in
mind, I chose this model to be inspirational, not to be an
“unattainable” image for the readers. This maybe subverts the
stereotype of pop music magazines because I haven’t used a typical
model type celebrity with unachievable beauty.
7. HOW DO YOUR COVER LINES AND MAIN
DOUBLE SPREAD STORY ATTRACT YOUR
AUDIENCE?
The use of twitter to form the basis of my double page spread makes my
magazine more attractive for the target audience that I am aiming
this towards. Also, the use of informal and “chatty” language means
that it is more age appropriate for my audience.
8. WHAT KIND OF MARKETING CAMPAIGNS DO
YOU THINK WOULD ATTRACT YOUR TARGET
AUDIENCE WHEN YOUR MAGAZINE IS
RELEASED?
Since I have used social media to provide the information for my main
article, this is the appropriate platform for any marketing campaigns I
release for my magazine.
