Hello, Everybody, Thanks for coming, I’m Yun Long Huang. As you Know, in the last five years, I’ve been using WebQuest in my class. So, today is the day, Let’s WebQuest!
Firstly, I’m going to be telling you some features of WebQuest, and then I’ll go on to highlight some essential parts of a WebQuest. After that, I’ll talk to you about some thing I’ve done.
OK, What is WebQuest? The model was developed by Professor Dodge// at San Diego State University// in February, 1995. WebQuest// is an inquiry-oriented teaching strategy, It’s similar to PBL, as you know, Project Based Learning, or Problem Based Learning. It’s also engaging in a Collaborative Learning Approach, learners have to be working together, and explore on web sites.
Well, Let’s go on to the Essential parts of a WebQuest. As you can see. There are six elements of WebQuest. The first part is the INTRODUCTION: The introduction section // provides background information// and motivational scenarios//. It also provides an OVERVIEW// of the learning goals for students// . The second part is TASK: The TASK is a formal description of what students will have ACCOMPLISHED// by the end of the WebQuest// . The third part is PROCESS: This is a description of the steps// That the learners should go through in accomplishing the TASK// , And it has links embedded in each step// . The fourth part is RESOURCES: WebQuest// consists of a list of the RESOURCES// ( bookmarked Web sites, print resources , etc.) // these are your students will need to complete the TASK//. The Fifth part is EVALUATION: Each WebQuest needs a RUBRIC// for evaluating students' WORK// . The STANDARDS should be fair//, clear//, consistent// , and specific// to the tasks set . The sixth part is CONCLUSION: This step allows for REFLECTION// by the students and summation by the teacher.
Here is aWebQuest Example. This is a template for teachers, in the left hand, showing you the critical components of WebQuest, and leading students step by step, accomplishing the Task.
And now, just have a look at something I’ve done. In 2010,
