Operates in friendly isolation—specific small programs do one or two things really well. But can copy paste or share between another app. The days of buying software suites are over. You’ll buy the exact functions you need, when you need them!
This slide and the four following are screenshots of some interesting apps. Grocery ordering, movie editing
MSF appDietary tracking
Geico—carry this instead of your insurance cardweather
Kindle app (ebook reader)twitter
And my favorite app! Disneyworld wait times!
Other markets growing but apple is still the name of the game
What exactly is a smart phone?Phone + PDAApps are available on most smart phones, sometimes not on blackberriesI pay $85/month.—because to use it as a computer, you need a “data plan”
2 dimensional bar code that is coded from a URLYou wouldn’t use it on a website, it is for someplace where it would be a pain for people to type in a URL
Here is my free “Scan” program. NOT the camera. It is an app! This barcode will send my phone to the chimeIn poll.
I am using ‘twitpic’ as a generic term for a photo in a tweet. (it is also a website)
In the twitter app or on the web interface, click the little camera. I usually do this before I type the tweet so that I can see how much remaining characters I have to work with. Can take one right then or upload a file.
Just an example of how it looks to most people—a little link that goes to the photo page
You can also use it for instant messaging (like google chat), and calling someone else through skype. This is good for cheap international communication
A screenshot of my gmail, showing where the chat interface and chat boxes show up
Another option besides skype! Good to have options in case something doesn’t work.
Setting your status—shows your availability, implies you know how to chatAlways invisible=obnoxiousNo saved chat history in umn accounts--It’s all off the record!
Someone can get your facebook login info if you browse over an unsecured wifi connection. Prevent this by securing your connection. You may want to tweak some of the other settings here too if you are concerned at all about security.
Nick name, maiden name, online handle
Use lists. That is my biggest tip on facebook! It is the best way to have separate identities.
New privacy settings page. Go through each thing—you can setup to approve tags/mentions of you, delete old apps, block certain apps
Mess around with the ‘view as’ button. This will help you understand a bunch of the privacysettings by letting you see what certain other groups, the public, or a specific user see when they look at your profile.
Auto movie—puts transitions and title slide inDrag and drop to rearrangeAdd music, photos, video clipsTrim clips, split clips
Itunes is software for your computer/smart phone. It is both a player and a ‘store’ to download the items
