• During the research stage of my
coursework, I presented information
via prezi. I found this platform
extremely helpful in order to present
my work in an organised way and
show how my research progressed.
• I also found prezi useful during
post-production/evaluation to
describe theorists and conventions
on one slide and then show how I
have incorporated the theory into
my products.
3. R E S E A R C H
• I completed various textual analyses on Keynote, which I then
had to export as powerpoint and upload to slideshare.
• Within my research I found codes and conventions I wanted to
conform to. Therefore, I would add hyperlinks on my blog to
show existing products I took inspiration from.
4. P L A N N I N G
• Using Blogger allowed me to track my progress during research,
planning, construction and evaluation. I labelled each post with
research, planning, post-production and audience feedback, which
made it simple to locate previous posts. This is particularly useful for
the evaluation stage, as I needed to review my learning journey.
• I made powerpoints for my research and planning. For example,
research in music production and planning my talent, mise-en-scene,
locations and album name. I exported my powerpoints to slideshare
in order to be able to embed the powerpoint into Blogger. This is
more convenient, as it can be viewed from my blog rather than
opening an external link. Blogger is able to interpret HTML codes,
which meant I could embed my work from Prezi, Infogram &
YouTube.
5. P L A N N I N G
• I messaged Jagwar Ma and Future
Classic record label on Instagram for
permission to use their song.
• This prevents copyright infringement
for the use of others’ material in ones
own creations.
6. P L A N N I N G
• From this experience, I made the decision to use an iPhone 7 camera
as my second unit, to ensure I could obtain footage filmed from
different angles with the same high-definition quality as the Samsung
Galaxy 2 Camera (first unit).
• I used iMovie for the first time when completing 'The Phone Call' task.
This process involved setting up a tripod for filming and editing, such
as cutting footage, cropping the frame, inserting audio and applying
slow motion. For filming, I used a Canon Legria and an iPhone 6,
resulting in different quality footage.
7. P L A N N I N G
• I developed a shot list using Pages, consisting of the
lyrics, timing, shot type and location, in order to plan
the sequence of footage in the music video. This was
useful for organising the editing process in the
construction of the music video. For example, the time
frame for a particular shot was stated, so I could edit
the length of the take accordingly.
8. P L A N N I N G
• I created a storyboard before filming and a second storyboard
post-shooting, as I wanted to make improvements, such as the
variety of shot types.
• I imported images of each frame of my storyboard into iMovie
and edited them with the audio. I uploaded the storyboard to
vimeo, which was then embedded into Blogger. The digitalised
storyboard allowed me to see if the takes were appropriate
lengths, as if they were too long it would be uninteresting for the
audience.
9. C O N S T R U C T I O N
• I filmed with the Samsung Galaxy 2 Camera, as it produced high-definition videos and
it was quicker to import the footage into iMovie than a DSLR. The camera had an
option to automatically upload the videos to Dropbox, which I could then download on
my laptop and import into iMovie. This was effective technology to use, as it was less
time-consuming to access my footage compared to using the Canon Legria during
‘The Phone Call’ task.
• I edited my music video using iMovie, where I had to import audio from iTunes and
footage from my downloads. During the production process of my main product I
uploaded three drafts by embedding a HTML link from Vimeo to Blogger. This is an
example of participatory culture (Henry Jenkins), as I shared my music video with the
vimeo community.
• I also filmed with my iPhone 7 camera, as Apple’s
technology is advanced and produces higher quality
footage than the camera. Videos from my camera roll
were easy to import into iMovie using the Airdrop feature
to send the videos to my laptop, which could then be
imported into iMovie from my downloads.
10. C O N S T R U C T I O N
• I had previous experience with Photoshop at AS when
editing images for my music magazine. I found I was
much more confident in using Photoshop at A2, as I was
familiar with the tools and their functions.
• For the construction of my digipak, I could import the 6-
panel template into Photoshop, which showed the
dimensions in which I had to place my images.
• I added the glow effect to adhere to the consistent house
style of my products and ensure there is continuity
between the magazine advert and digipak images.
• The clone stamp tool allowed me to remove the white
glare from the flash of the camera on the interactive
whiteboard.
• I was able to use my phone during production and post-
production by taking images with the camera and editing
the images on Photos. I could also download the iMovie
app on my phone - this is an example of convergence.
11. EVALUATION
• I obtained feedback from a member of my focus group via
Twitter. I made a screen recording, a feature on iPhone iOS 11,
of our conversation. I could then import the screen recording
from iPhotos into iMovie. I edited the screen recording to show
the elements of my music video which were being described
within the conversation, as shown below:
12. EVALUATION
• I chose to use Microsoft Forms, as I could distribute my
questionnaire easily via email. When analysing the
feedback, I could view the responses as a whole or
individually, which was beneficial for obtaining quantitative
feedback, as well as more qualitative, subjective
responses.
13. F O U N D A T I O N T O A D V A N C E D
• My skills developed from AS to A2 due to my familiarity with the
technologies I used over the 2 years.
• Without the technology, it would have been extremely difficult to
produce professional products, as I would not have access to high-
quality images and footage for my main and ancillary tasks. Without
technology, such as social media, vimeo and microsoft forms, I would
not have been able to obtain audience feedback easily.
• David Gauntlett published a book in 2011, ‘Making is Connecting’,
which explains how the development of web 1.0 to 2.0 allows
‘collaborative creativity’. He further explains the long tail of
independent media projects on YouTube and smartphones. I have
contributed to the ‘collaborative creativity’, as I have shared my
progress and final products on various technologies, including
Blogger, vimeo, social media etc.
