The Valley Industry Partnership for Cooperative Education (VIP) in the Lyles College of Engineering
(LCOE) is completing its ninth year as an ancillary unit of California State University, Fresno and its
nineteenth year as a Cooperative Education Program.
The VIP Program offers a paid internship program to engineering, construction management and
industrial technology students comprised of industry partners who are dedicated to the success of
the student. Students complete two, six-month internships throughout their college careers. This
allows students to gain the necessary experience to be “job-ready” when they enter the workforce
upon graduation.

PROBLEM
Local Companies could not hire/retain quality entry-level engineers with
technical experience that wanted to stay in the region.
SOLUTION
VIP Program is a collaborative effort of industry, education and student
participation that supports the infrastructure and growth of Central
California’s engineering workforce, and aligns with the mission of the
Lyles College of Engineering of providing high-quality academic
programs.

Requires interns to take one full year off of school to gain valuable industry experience.
All student interns:
• Go through a vetted application process
• Participate in an intensive interview by VIP company representatives
• Companies select student intern after competitive process
• Two-sixth month internships with two different companies
• Get paid $17 for first internship, $19 for second internship
