Outgrowing a System
Hope College is a private, four-year liberal arts school
historically associated with the Reformed Church in
America. With an enrollment of over 3,000 students,
Hope offers 91 majors and minors and is the only liberal
arts college in the country with national accreditations
in art, dance, music, and theater.
Five years ago, admissions representatives at Hope College
printed off online inquiry forms and hand-entered them into
a homegrown system a student had created in Access. That
led to Adam Hopkins researching CRMs to help coordinate
recruitment efforts and track data among different
departments. “We try to run as lean as we can, and that
includes our IT department,” says the associate director of
admissions. “We were looking for a solution that didn’t put
a lot of burden on their staff. We found that with Radius.”
Although he explored several options, he chose Radius for
three specific reasons: the cost, the Web-enablement, and
the “really good feeling” he got when it came to support.
A Smooth Transition
With the help of on-site Hobsons personnel, a core team
from Hope spent a few days becoming acquainted with
the functionality of Radius and determining different data
strategies. While the entire implementation took around
three months, the contacts and registrations modules were

online in about a month and a half, followed by inquiry
and event forms.
During the implementation, Hobsons staff provided
regular support and feedback. “Anytime I had questions
about ‘How should I do this?’ or ‘How does this work?’
there was always someone I could go to directly,”
Hopkins says.
After the integration, Hopkins found that Radius
delivered on its promise of being user friendly without
burdening his IT department. “I have no programming
type of background,” he explains. “It’s just a very
intuitive product for those who will be overseeing
the system and creating fields, and troubleshooting
different items.”
Continued Support
Hopkins believes implementing Radius played a
large part in the college’s increase in applications and
strong enrollment despite declining numbers at similar
schools. Specifically, applications have increased by 35
percent since implementing Radius and the incomplete
application rate has decreased from 25 percent to 12
percent. He credits this, in large part, to coordination in
campuswide efforts and to having live information at the
ready. “This has taught us to be more efficient, and the
results speak for themselves,” he says.
And, five years later, Hopkins still gets the kind of
support he received when Hope first implemented
Radius. In fact, he knows he can always reach out to
Hobsons staff and get a response within an hour or two.
“They have tried as much as they can to understand
our business processes or ask for clarification and work
very hard to troubleshoot what the issue might be or
provide suggestions for how we might best tackle the
challenges we might face,” Hopkins says. “[That] gives us
confidence—not only that Hobsons wants us to succeed,
but also pictures us as a valued partner.”

With an enrollment of over 3,000 students, Hope offers 91 majors and minors and is the only liberal arts college in the country with national accreditations in art, dance, music, and theater. Five years ago, admissions representatives at Hope College printed off online inquiry forms and hand-entered them into a homegrown system a student had created in Access. That led to Adam Hopkins researching CRMs to help coordinate recruitment efforts and track data among different departments. “We try to run as lean as we can, and that includes our IT department,” says the associate director of admissions. “We were looking for a solution that didn’t put a lot of burden on their staff. We found that with Radius.” Although he explored several options, he chose Radius for three specific reasons: the cost, the Web-enablement, and the “really good feeling” he got when it came to support. A Smooth Transition With the help of on-site Hobsons personnel, a core team from Hope spent a few days becoming acquainted with the functionality of Radius and determining different data strategies. During the implementation, Hobsons staff provided regular support and feedback. “Anytime I had questions about ‘How should I do this?’ or ‘How does this work?’ there was always someone I could go to directly,” Hopkins says. After the integration, Hopkins found that Radius delivered on its promise of being user friendly without burdening his IT department. “I have no programming type of background,” he explains. “It’s just a very intuitive product for those who will be overseeing the system and creating fields, and troubleshooting different items.” Continued Support Hopkins believes implementing Radius played a large part in the college’s increase in applications and strong enrollment despite declining numbers at similar schools. Specifically, applications have increased by 35 percent since implementing Radius and the incomplete application rate has decreased from 25 percent to 12 percent. He credits this, in large part, to coordination in campuswide efforts and to having live information at the ready. “This has taught us to be more efficient, and the results speak for themselves,” he says. And, five years later, Hopkins still gets the kind of support he received when Hope first implemented Radius.
