This is my AS level media power point presentation on institutions involved in two contrasting movies, a high budget movie (The Dark Knight Rises) and a low budget movie (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) It will also be uploaded to my media blog.
5. Budgets
• The Dark Knight Rises - $275,000,000
• Texas Chainsaw Massacre - $140,000
6. Profit.
• The Dark Knight Rises - $1,079,343,943
• Texas Chainsaw Massacre - $26,572,439
7. Notoriety (High Budget)
The production companies for the extremely
high budget Dark Knight rises movie ( Warner
Bros, Legendary Pictures, 20th Century Fox, DC
Entertainment/Comics and Syncopy) are all very
large scale well known companies, they are
known for many movies and have achieved fame
to the point that for some of those companies,
the fact that they have been involved in the
production is a selling point for the film.
8. Notoriety (Low budget)
The production company for the very low
budget Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Vortex) are a
very small and unknown company. They are
small to the point that an image search for their
company logo heralded no results. Their
company name would not be used in promotion
because it could make people think that because
they have not heard of this company the movie
could be of poor quality, meaning that they
would not go to see it.
9. Institutional differences between the
low and high budget movies.
• High budget has multiple institutions collaborating on
the movie, low budget has only the one and it is very
small and not well known.
• The high budget movie’s institutions will usually be
used in the promotions for the movie, this is not the
case for the institutions of the low budget movie.
• The high budget movie’s production companies logos
were shown as a part of the opening scene/credits.
• The high budget movie’s companies logos were shown
in large image format in the end credits of the movie
whereas the low budget movie’s were not.
11. Other productions.
• The production company for the Texas Chainsaw
Massacre (Vortex) have not produced any other
movies that I could find, this could mean that
they have gone out of business or that they are
now working with others or under a different
name. There is a possibility that they were
brought out by another company.
• On the other side, the many production
companies involved in the high budget movie
have all gone on to work on many, many other
movies.
