  • 1. Analysing the poster of the British Social Realism film: Bullet Boy A character main trailer where the poster involves the main character but has little information regarding the plot. BULLET BOY FILM POSTER
  • 2. JUXTAPOSITION OF COLOURS/ LIGHTING The lighting of the poster is different in front of the character and behind the character. This could connote that the characters past is dark and mysterious and he’s trying to find a better future. This allows the audience/consumer to see into the characters thought, life and narrative.
  • 3. USE OF IMAGES The image inside the characters mind could imply many meanings for the viewers/ consumers. It could create the idea it’s the characters past or thought or it could be something he is seeing. This also introduces some other characters within the film. The colour of the image connotes the idea of danger and the danger of the issues shown in the image. The image is of a young boy holding a gun, this shows the audience the film tackles the social issue of gun crime and youth. The central image is of, what appears to be, the main character. Being such a large image, it becomes eye catching and interesting to the audience as the main central image.
  • 4. NARRATIVE: USE OF TEXT The title comes with a slogan : ‘you only get one shot at life’. This could describe what is happening in the picture next to it. This also creates an enigma about ‘Why are they saying this?’ ‘Does somebody get hurt?’ this leads the audience on, The title is the biggest text on the poster being the most important. This is connected to the subtitle above it as they both mention bullet and shot suggesting the film involves some form of gun crime The poster appears with reviews enhancing the audiences likability to watch the film. With them only being one word, it catches the audience quickly
  • 5. COLOURS The colours used in this poster create mystery and danger. The three main colours used in this poster are blue, orange and white. The three colours could connote: Blue - The dark past the prominent character has within the film and the background that tries to attract him to a troubled life. Orange -The danger in the characters mind and his actions can be dangerous within the film (the colour orange is enhanced with the picture of a young boy with a gun: why has he got a gun? Is it this characters fault?). White : His attempts to find a future away from the danger and the closeness of the gang culture he tackles. His face is lit with white light suggesting he’s looking for a new future.
  • 6. FORMAT: Landscape layout : this showcases the main character in the centre of the poster highlighting his power and importance. This creates a sense of loneliness for the character as if he has been left with his thoughts. The space behind the image is greater than in front of him suggesting he has a full mysterious past and is stepping forwards into his new future.
  • 7. MISE EN SCENE The background of the image/poster is a muggy blue creating mystery behind the character. With no setting behind the character it implies no plot to the poster and lets the significance of the one character create the story for the audience. This simplicity makes the characters and the impact of colours do the talking.
  • 8. IN RELATION TO MY POSTER:
    • This trailer is a perfect example of a poster from the British Social Realism genre. The simplicity is something in which I will take into consideration when creating my own Social Realism poster. The use of three colours, keeping a house style, adds to the simplicity of the narrative. The use of reviews adds to the appeal of the film and I will create this when thinking about my poster. In selecting an image I will attempt to choose wisely one striking image which relates directly back to the narrative.
