2. What research did we
conduct?
ο
For our audience feedback we conducted group research
where our trailer was shown at the Electric Cinema in
front of a focus group of 16-19 year olds of mixed gender.
Whilst they watched our trailer they were asked to fill in a
questionnaire showing their gender and age and asked
questions such as: What do you think the film will be
about? Would you like to see the film? Are you
interested in the main character? Where could they
improve? Which were the best parts? And finally they
were asked to give a rating out of 10. This PowerPoint
shows the results from this collective group.
4. What have I learnt?
ο
From this research I have found that on average more
males than females would like to watch the film and the
number of males and females who wouldnβt like to
watch the film were equal. From this I have developed
an understanding into our target audience and how we
might appeal to this target audience. Predominately
male and closely female teenagers are the target
audience in which we wanted to appeal to. From this
research I have learnt that we were successful in
advertising to our chosen target audience.
5. What score out of 10 did the audience
(divided by gender) give our trailer?
ο
6. What have I learnt?
ο females rated our trailer
Out of ten, on average, more
higher; this allows me to see which specific gender like
the film the most. From this feedback I can see it differs
from the previous graph which shows that more males
would like to see the film whereas in this graph more
females seem to like it more as they rated it higher. From
this I have learnt that we have appealed to the whole of
the young target audience for the film touching both
genders and their ratings.
8. What have I learnt?
ο
On average the age group which would like to see our
film the most is the 18 year old age group. Closely
behind are the 17 year olds. 2 of the 16 year olds
wouldnβt like to see our film. From this I have learnt that
individuals within the target audience are different and
we still appealed to the majority of our target audience.
From conducting this research it shows how we could
improve. By looking at where they said we could
improve we could then develop this within our trailer ο
9. Where could we improve (from
audience feedback)?
ο
ο More dancing
Within our trailer we developed an equal amount of dancing in the narrative to not give too
much away for the audience. In professional trailers a film doesnβt give away too much
of their narrative so we followed this convention.
ο More of the male character
Within our trailer we wanted to introduce the male character (helper) towards the end of the
trailer to create an enigma for the audience (where will their relationship go?) so if we
involved the character even more this would be lost.
ο End shot should finish with jump in the air (mentioned twice)
From this comment we have changed the jump to ensure it looks more effective, therefore
taking this comment on board.
ο Shots with βhelperβ could have been more personal
When shooting the relationships between the male and female we wanted to leave the
relationship status open, we didnβt want to label them as in βloveβ. This then would
create another enigma for the audience (what type of relationship will they have?) If we
made the shots too personal this would be lost.
ο A bit longer in length
Before deciding the length of our trailer we conducted research into the length of
professional trailer and on average they lasted for about 1min 30 secs, we applied this
then to our trailer (being a teaser trailer) so if it was developed longer it wouldnβt apply
to realistic conventions.
11. WHAT HAVE I LEARNT?
ο
Before we created our trailer we mood boarded
different emotions which we could portray for our
genre of film. We decided for it to be inspirational
with some sense of a journey. From our audience
feedback we have shown that these emotions were
portrayed with similar moods being created. The
most popular mood/emotion felt was SAD. When
editing the beginning of this trailer we aimed to
portray this feeling and was successful in doing so. I
have learnt that the moods we tried to create were
successful with our target audience.
