2. What is Corona Virus?
• Corona virus are a family of viruses that cause
Respiratory and sometimes Gastrointestinal
diseases.
• Respiratory disease can range from the
Common Cold to Pneumonia and in most
people the symptoms tend to be mild.
3. Types of Corona Virus
• However there are some types of Corona Viruses
that can cause severe disease these includes
• The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona
Virus Disease ( SARS-COVID ) which is 1st identified
in China in 2003.
• And the
• Middle East Respiratory syndrome Corona Virus
Disease ( MERS-COVID) that was 1st identified in
Saudi Arabia in 2012.
4.
5.
6. How Corona Virus get their Name?
• Corona virus are a large group of viruses they
consist of a core of genetic material
surrounded by an envelope with protein
spikes.
• This gives it the appearance of a Crown (Taj)
and
• In Latin Crown is called Corona and that’s way
corona get their name.
7.
8. ORIGIN OF CORONA VIRUS
• It’s known that Corona viruses circulate in a
range of animals sometimes these viruses can
jump from animals to humans this is called a
Spillover Event.
• They jump due to a range of factors: such as
• Mutations in the virus or
• Increase contact b/w humans and animals
• For-Example
• MERS-COVID is known to be transmitted from
Camels.
• And SARS-COVID from Rats & cats.
9.
10. COVID-19
• Corona virus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious
disease caused by a newly discovered corona
virus.
• The 2019 Novel Corona virus was 1st identified
in China.
• COVID-19 stands for Corona Virus Disease 2019
because this was 1st emerged in 2019.
• As this is the new disease and a new type of
corona virus So it’s named as Novel Corona Virus
(2019-nCoV)
11. History
• In December 2019 there was a cluster of
pneumonia cases in China investigations found
that it was caused by previously unknown virus
now named the 2019 novel corona Virus.
• It initially occurred in group of people with
pneumonia who’d been associated with seafood
and live animal market in the city of Wuhan.
• This is a new virus and might change in the
future.
12. • the disease has since spread from those who
were sick to others including family members
and health care staff.
• The disease spread in China also to a number
of other countries.
• The animal reservoir of the 2019 Novel
Corona Virus is not known yet.
13. Transmission of COVID-19
• The exact dynamics is yet to be determined
• However, in general
• Respiratory viruses are usually transmitted
through droplets created when an infected
person coughs or sneezes or through something
that is contaminated with the virus.
• People who more risk of 2019 novel Corona Virus
are those who are in close contact with animals
and those person who are carrying the corona
virus.
14. Symptoms of COVID-19
• Which is known so far,
• There are mild to severe respiratory symptoms
such as,
• Fever
• Coughing
• Shortness of Breadth
• In more severe cases
• Pneumonia
• Kidney failure and death
• Mortality rate is not known yet
15.
16. Diagnosis
• PCR (Polymerase chain reaction)
• This test identifies the virus based on its
genetic fingerprint.
• There is currently no specific medication for
this. Treatment is supportive care.
• Newly developed Corona virus test kit is now
used for diagnosis purposes.
18. How Can I protect myself from a
Corona virus
• A corona virus typically cause Respiratory symptoms.
• So we can recommend basic,
• Hand Hygiene: such as
• Washing your hands with soap and water.
• Wear Gloves during working.
• Respiratory hygiene: such as
• When you sneeze sneezing into your elbow or use
tissue paper.
•
22. • Avoid unnecessary unprotected contact with
live animals and
• Wash hand thoroughly after contact with an
animal.
• Eat Properly cooked meat.
• Wear Gloves
• Cover Mouth and Nose
with the mask.
23. • Avoiding close contact with those are sick.
• Avoid Crowding
• Do not touch face and nose again and again.
• Stay at home
• Avoid Hand shake.
24.
25. Is there a Treatment?
• There is no specific treatment or Vaccine for
corona viruses
• But
• Symptoms of Corona Virus can be treated.
26. Recovering from COVID-19
• Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus
will experience mild to moderate respiratory
illness and
• Recover without requiring special treatment.
• Older people, and those with underlying
medical problems like cardiovascular disease,
diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and
cancer are
• more likely to develop serious illness.
27. Prevention from COVID-19
• The best way to prevent and slow down
transmission is be
• well informed about the COVID-19 virus, the
disease it causes and how it spreads.
• At this time, there are no specific vaccines or
treatments for COVID-19. However, there are
many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential
treatments. WHO will continue to provide
updated information as soon as clinical findings
become available.
