So, what do we know about DA’WAH?

AN-NASEEHAH:
“Do not miss the forest for the trees”

QUESTION
What are we inviting or calling people to?
• Is it calling them towars only to ‘what you like’ about Islam?
• Is it to your ‘organization’ or to UKHUWWAH-ISLAM?
• Or, limited only to your area of ‘specialization’?
• Is it to a ‘culture’ or is it really to ADDEENUL-ISLAM?

AN-NASEEHAH:
O ye who believe! (O ye who believe! (LAA TUQOD-DIMULAA TUQOD-DIMU) put not yourselves) put not yourselves
forward before Allah and His Messenger: but be consciousforward before Allah and His Messenger: but be conscious

unassuming by avoiding the gaze of people admiring the garden, yet
ignoring them is indeed ignorant heedlessness, compounded with
ingratitude, while preferring others less able over them is injustice ”
'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favour];

people towards AD-DEENUL-ISLAM ….
• … is our knowledge of AD-DEENUL-ISLAM correct?
• ... Is the approach of learning AD-DEENUL-ISLAM able develop us to
share its beautiful message to anyone especially to the majority of
people in Singapore?
• … is our calling people to, or the way we invite non-Muslim, in
accordance with that which our Prophet Muhammad would have
approved?
• ... is our approach of DA’WAH able to convince the non-Muslim?

TO RESUME …

 Do not equate this task (DA’WAH) as being similar with other kinds
of professions. It is AMANAH as a mission and – not a vocation.
 Remember, it has been carried out by an unbroken chain of DU’AT,
faithfully linked to the Prophet Muhammad s.a.a.w.
 This legacy is the foremost concern because DEEN-AL-ISLAM has
been perfected and there will be no more new prophet sent to all
mankind after our Muhammad s.a.a.w.
 Every Muslim are to be developed towards assisting DA’WAH
ISLAMIYYAH, in whatever capacity they attained, the most basic is
to become Witnesses of Islam with their life for others.
AN-NASEEHAH – Sincere Advice

 Each region may underwent its own unique history, experiences
especially of “civilizational osmosis”. Therefore to have knowledge
and true appreciation of their respective history, to benefit from the
work of previous scholars and propagators, managing proper
transmission of their work with ADAB, especially in learning
adequately of Wisdom and experience gained by them, is
imperative.
 This is crucial – failure in fulfilling this is being ungrateful and can
lead to (KHIYAANAH) treachery to the Prophetic legacy.
 Remember, Allah SWT has stipulated the criteria for carrying it out.

Differentiating the GeneralDifferentiating the General
meaning from the Specificmeaning from the Specific
(technical) meaning of the(technical) meaning of the

ISLAH - DA’WAH

DA’WAH – today, has been understood generally, to refer to every
initiatives to call people towards adhering to every teachings of
Islam, without any distinction with regards to the audience
concerned (al-mad-’uun).
Unfortunately in Singapore, every religious activity amongst Muslims
are termed as “Da’wah” activity as though Da’wah is only meant for
Muslims, whereas the original meaning refers to “calling every one
towards Islam” especially the non-Muslims.

 In matters of Islam, we Muslims (in Singapore) generally may haveIn matters of Islam, we Muslims (in Singapore) generally may have
become ‘localized’ (insular and exclusive) to the extent that we onlybecome ‘localized’ (insular and exclusive) to the extent that we only
think as though “Islam” is only for us, and about us.think as though “Islam” is only for us, and about us.
 Every activities pertaining to Islam are deemed only for us Muslims.Every activities pertaining to Islam are deemed only for us Muslims.
DA’WAH – in the original sense refers to the
calling of all mankind (Non-believers) to Islam.

 All our “All our “Islamic Da’wah resourcesIslamic Da’wah resources” (if any) are geared only towards the” (if any) are geared only towards the
16% Muslims16% Muslims of the nation’s population (Singapore). We have all alongof the nation’s population (Singapore). We have all along
neglected theneglected the 84% (non-Muslims).84% (non-Muslims).

towards non-Muslims. They even deemed this (the Prophetic Qur’anictowards non-Muslims. They even deemed this (the Prophetic Qur’anic

 Some (indirect) approach towards the non-Muslims inSome (indirect) approach towards the non-Muslims in ““InterfaithInterfaith

thethe “Fiqh-hud-Da’wah”“Fiqh-hud-Da’wah” ??
 Isn’t Truth supposed to confront falsehood?Isn’t Truth supposed to confront falsehood?

 Afraid to confront and yet claim to be doing “Da’wah” ?
 They like to say: “Let’s accept that everybody is right and nobody is
wrong!!?” -
 LAA-HAU-LA WA LAA-QUW-WA-TA IL-LA BIL-LAAH !

 And they should be reminded that this religion of al-Islam is also called
Ad-Deen-ul-Haqq (the religion of Truth):

““He (Allah) it is Who hath sent His messenger with the guidance andHe (Allah) it is Who hath sent His messenger with the guidance and
the religion of Truth (al-Islam), that He may make it victoriousthe religion of Truth (al-Islam), that He may make it victorious
(triumph) over all religion however much idolaters may be averse.”(triumph) over all religion however much idolaters may be averse.”
