is not simply by imitating or mere regurgitating what you see them inis not simply by imitating or mere regurgitating what you see them in
their lecture, YouTube or videos. Actually it requires, not just knowledgetheir lecture, YouTube or videos. Actually it requires, not just knowledge
but in fact the Wisdom (but in fact the Wisdom (AL-HIKMAHAL-HIKMAH).).
So, what do we know about DA’WAH?

AN-NASEEHAH:
“Do not miss the forest for the trees”
IMPORTANT
QUESTION
What are we inviting or calling people to?
• Is it calling them towards only to ‘what you like’ about Islam?
• Is it to your ‘organization’ or to UKHUWWAH-ISLAMIYYAH?
• Or, limited only to your area of ‘specialization’?
• Is it to a ‘culture’ or is it really to ADDEENUL-ISLAM?

AN-NASEEHAH:
O ye who believe! (O ye who believe! (LAA TUQOD-DIMULAA TUQOD-DIMU) put not yourselves) put not yourselves
forward before Allah and His Messenger: but be consciousforward before Allah and His Messenger: but be conscious
of and) fear (transgressing against) Allah (of and) fear (transgressing against) Allah (TAQWATAQWA): for): for

“How is it that you enjoin others to follow the Right Way,

…. but provide the message and aspects which appeal to people in general?

“All of my people (UMMATI ) will enter paradise except those who
refuse.” They said : O Messenger of Allah, Who are those who refuse?.
He then said: “ Whoever obeys me will enter Paradise, and whoever
disobey me is one who refuses (to enter it).”
(Hadith reported by Bukhary)

“ Invite them to Islam, and inform them what is enjoined upon
them for, I swear on Allah, if Allah should guide one person
through you, it is better for you than possessing the ‘red camels’
(i.e. the most precious of things to have then).”
(Hadith reported by Abu Dawud)

 If by DA’WAH we mean “inviting or calling”
people towards AD-DEENUL-ISLAM ….
• … is our knowledge of AD-DEENUL-ISLAM correct?
• ... Is the approach of learning AD-DEENUL-ISLAM able develop us to
share its beautiful message to anyone especially to the majority of
people in Singapore?
• … is our calling people to, or the way we invite non-Muslim, in
accordance with that which our Prophet Muhammad would have
approved?
• ... is our approach of DA’WAH able to convince the non-Muslim?

 Do not equate this task (DA’WAH) as being similar with other kinds
of professions. It is AMANAH as a mission and – not a vocation.
 Remember, it has been carried out by an unbroken chain of DU’AT,
faithfully linked to the Prophet Muhammad s.a.a.w.
 This legacy is the foremost concern because DEEN-AL-ISLAM has
been perfected and there will be no more new prophet sent to all
mankind after our Muhammad s.a.a.w.
 Every Muslim are to be developed towards assisting DA’WAH
ISLAMIYYAH, in whatever capacity they attained, the most basic is
to become Witnesses of Islam with their life for others.
AN-NASEEHAH – Sincere Advice

Potentials, opportunities & Amanah:
1. All the people who are invited or have accepted Islam already possess
the inherent goodness, value and capabilities like that of raw minerals.
When they become Muslims, it is with their education in Islam that
would actualize, perfect and manifest their respective potentials.
2. Therefore make DA’WAH and ensure their education – literally their
“understanding the religion Islam” (FAQIH - FID-DEEN) is in accordance
with that which the Prophet had done whereby they were all
harnessed to serve Allah’ cause fulfilling the legacy – they became the
best and exemplary community as witnesses to all mankind.
3. If Muslims are developed not to primarily serve the Ummah but for
other cause, it may be deemed betrayal towards His Messenger .

“People are like minerals, the best of them in Jahiliyah
will still be the best amongst them in Islam,
so long as they have proper (profound) understanding.”
(Hadith reported by Bukhary, Muslim, Darimi and Ahmad)

 Each region may underwent its own unique history, experiences
especially of “civilizational osmosis”. Therefore to have knowledge
and true appreciation of their respective history, to benefit from the
work of previous scholars and propagators, managing proper
transmission of their work with ADAB, especially in learning
adequately of Wisdom and experience gained by them, is
imperative.
 This is crucial – failure in fulfilling this is being ungrateful and can
lead to (KHIYAANAH) treachery to the Prophetic legacy.
 Remember, Allah SWT has stipulated the criteria for carrying it out.
AN-NASEEHAH – Sincere Advice

““Da-’inDa-’in” [sing.] (caller; one who invites) –” [sing.] (caller; one who invites) – title indicating atitle indicating a
high station in the hierarchy of ranks amongsthigh station in the hierarchy of ranks amongst ‘ulama’‘ulama’ of Islamof Islam..
Title accorded only to those with certain criteria; more asTitle accorded only to those with certain criteria; more as
ambassador or emissary of Islam - to call others toambassador or emissary of Islam - to call others to al-Islamal-Islam..

In my advice to some of my students, I have reiterated myIn my advice to some of my students, I have reiterated my
concern of the way Muslims learn and carry out theirconcern of the way Muslims learn and carry out their FARDHUFARDHU
’AIN’AIN,, which needs to be re-looked into again.which needs to be re-looked into again.
My concern was because I sensed that many may have learntMy concern was because I sensed that many may have learnt
Islam merely as a subject or subjects, and not so much as a wayIslam merely as a subject or subjects, and not so much as a way
of life to strive upon.of life to strive upon.
For many,For many, FARDHU‘AINFARDHU‘AIN are regarded merely as things to beare regarded merely as things to be
done, and they overlooked that these are made as obligationdone, and they overlooked that these are made as obligation
upon us Muslims to benefit from, because it containsupon us Muslims to benefit from, because it contains HIKMAHHIKMAH
and the Mercy of Allah – as “and the Mercy of Allah – as “transformative program oftransformative program of
changing our entire worldview and paradigmchanging our entire worldview and paradigm.”.”

Remember, by being Muslims we are not doing Allah s.w.t. any
favour, whereas it is Allah Who has favoured us with Islam.
Actually when Muslims re-orientate themselves and regard the
“ARKAAN-AL-ISLAM” as crucial ‘building blocks’ of their life and
that each fulfilment of these ARKAAN (singular – RUKUN) must
be appraised upon by how close (TAQARRUB) they have become
towards Allah s.w.t., only then can they extricate themselves out
of the malaise which some have analysed and described (which I
termed as “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde” syndrome

“Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde” syndrome – i.e. intermittently lapsing
into forgetfulness or heedlessness (GHAFLAH), then
remembrance, then forgetfulness of Allah again in a kind of cycle
in life), causing their identity as Muslims to be compromised e.g.
referring to himself / herself as “Secular-Muslim” !?
This is because their worldview of and the fundamental
understanding of Islam perhaps may be faulty, partial and
truncated, whereas the spirit of Islam should dominate and
permeate our entire existence.

Allah warns us of this forgetfulness in some people, and with the
Qur’an and the teachings of His Messenger Muhammad s.a.a.w.,
He wants to guide us to be different:

““Let not the free disposal (and affluence) of theLet not the free disposal (and affluence) of the
disbelievers throughout the land deceive you. Adisbelievers throughout the land deceive you. A
brief enjoyment; then, their ultimate abode is Hell;brief enjoyment; then, their ultimate abode is Hell;
and worst indeed is that place for rest.”and worst indeed is that place for rest.”
((Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3: 196Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3: 196))

the Muslims remembrance of Allah would be continuous andthe Muslims remembrance of Allah would be continuous and

So theSo the ‘‘FIRASATFIRASAT’’ (inner sense -intuition) of a believing Muslim(inner sense -intuition) of a believing Muslim
((MU’MINMU’MIN) that make us sense that perhaps “) that make us sense that perhaps “mymy Fardh 'ainFardh 'ain is ofis of
poor qualitypoor quality” which many of us may harbour, is spot-on, and” which many of us may harbour, is spot-on, and
should worry us all into acting to redress it.should worry us all into acting to redress it.

What is my basis for choosing this approach?

me to teach converts in 1982, I had to develop a curriculum onme to teach converts in 1982, I had to develop a curriculum on
““Fardhu ‘ainFardhu ‘ain”, specific for converts’ need.”, specific for converts’ need.

It was unlike that of the curriculum amongst the MalayIt was unlike that of the curriculum amongst the Malay
Muslim’s, and I guess myMuslim’s, and I guess my Da’wahDa’wah background somewhat shapedbackground somewhat shaped
its syllabus, methods and approaches.its syllabus, methods and approaches.
After many years teaching converts theirAfter many years teaching converts their Fardhu ‘ainFardhu ‘ain, I have, I have
noticed that many of them were somewhat empowered to donoticed that many of them were somewhat empowered to do
Da’wahDa’wah work, although they may have never studied any specificwork, although they may have never studied any specific
subject onsubject on Da’wahDa’wah..

It is in the manner that they were taught that perhaps made theIt is in the manner that they were taught that perhaps made the
difference. And some Malay-Muslims (those born into a Muslimdifference. And some Malay-Muslims (those born into a Muslim
family) also experienced the difference with this approach,family) also experienced the difference with this approach,

should beshould be seriouslyseriously looked into. Mere ‘grafting’ or giving them alooked into. Mere ‘grafting’ or giving them a

Sincere Advice
“EDUCATION”

“O YOU who have attained to faith! Be helpers [in the
cause of Allah (KUU-NUU– AN-SWAA-RALLAAH)- even as
Jesus, the son of Mary, said unto the white-garbed
[disciples] , "Who will be my helpers in Allah's cause?" -
whereupon the white-garbed [disciples] replied, "We shall
be [thy] helpers [in the cause] of Allah!“
(Qur’an: Saff: 61: 14)

““AndAnd strive for Allah with the striving due to Himstrive for Allah with the striving due to Him. He has. He has
chosen you and has not placed upon you in the religion anychosen you and has not placed upon you in the religion any
difficulty. [It is] the religion of your father, Abraham. Allahdifficulty. [It is] the religion of your father, Abraham. Allah
named you “named you “AL-MUSLIMEENAL-MUSLIMEEN” (Muslims) before [in former” (Muslims) before [in former
scriptures] and in this [revelation] that the Messenger mayscriptures] and in this [revelation] that the Messenger may
be a witness over you and you may bebe a witness over you and you may be (SHU-HA-DAA-(SHU-HA-DAA-

(Say:) ”Behold, my prayer, and [all] my acts of worship,
my living and my dying are for God [Allah alone, Who is],
the Sustainer of all the worlds, in whose divinity none
has a share: for thus have I been bidden – and I shall
[always] be foremost among those who surrender
themselves to Him (MUSLIMEEN).”
(Qur’an: Surah al-An’am:6:162)

and whenever he speaks it increases you yourand whenever he speaks it increases you your
knowledge (of the Deen), and with his deeds itknowledge (of the Deen), and with his deeds it
