1. Questions asked in our questionnaire as part of our audience feedback;
Do you think the facts given in the documentary help you understand the reality of the problem?
As you can see the majority of people asked had said yes, so this was successful to use to emphasis
the point of the topic and didn’t over exaggerate with constant facts, I also learned the way we went
about implementing the facts was appropriate in contrast to other methods such a blank screen with
the facts as text.
Yes
No
Do you think the camera shots used in the documentary expressed the emotion of the topic
bullying?
I have learned that the reconstruction had the most impact and was effective as this was edited for
the beginning of the documentary to instantly get the audience engaged. This also set the
atmosphere as a serious melancholy mood which also indicated the topic of bullying.
Yes
No
What piece of the editing do you think is most effective?
Again the opening sequence including the reconstruction was found to be the most effective in the
documentary and opinions included ‘very professional’ and ‘immediately attracted my attention’ this
shows we have successfully edited the majority appropriate to our target audience and task.
2. Was the use of vox pops effective?
In most cases the answer was yes however a handful of people thought that we should have
included more views from the public as this would balance out the documentary, as analysing it now
it is heavily dominated by student opinions.
Yes
No
Any camera shot/editing that is out of place?
The general consensus was no, however watching replay there a few establishing shots that were
not relevant to the topic such as the camera shot of a bush.
Was the narrator efficient in getting the point across?
All of the feedback said that the female narrator was very efficient as she was clear and easy to
understand, furthermore this was said to be very engaging in contrast to monotone voices that they
have heard watching previous documentaries.
Yes
No
Rating between 1 and 5 on effectiveness compared to other similar professional documentaries?
The average number was 4 which we find is extremely effective, however there is still room for
improvement and we would achieve this by taking into account our audience research next time we
were to carry out a similar task.
3. Does the radio trailer entice you to watch the documentary?
The clear popular opinion was yes this does encourage them to watch the documentary however
adding more vox pops would support that decision even more as the get a feel of what’s to come in
the documentary.
Yes
No
Does the double page spread entice to watch the documentary?
Yes people were enticed to watch the rest of the documentary from the double page spread also I
have learned that the pull quotes were used effectively and also grabbed the attention of the
audience.
Yes
No
What in specific do you find interesting about the double page spread?
All responses included the rhetorical question on the double page spread as this made them think
about the question and what this could involve. This adds to the emotion of the documentary and
helps the viewer to understand the topic and the problems behind it.
Is the radio trail successful in grabbing your attention and interesting to listen to?
This response was very mixed, as we had layered different voices over each other to help create a
confusion this was to immediately the audience’s attention and I have learnt that this worked
effectively. There were some negatives such as the length and the detail that we had put in,
therefore we feel that this is the weakest link out of our 3 products.
4. Does the mise-en-scene on the double page spread attract you?
The general consensus was that the colours uses in conjunction with the images were very attractive
as this was relevant to the topic of bullying so in this case made the double page spread eye
catching.
Yes
No
Do you think the whole three products link successfully together?
YES, as images from the documentary featured on the double page spread and also the background
pre-set music on the radio trailer was the same for the documentary so overall made all three tasks
very consistent.
Yes
No
Rating between 1 and 5 on effectiveness compared to other similar professional documentaries?
The average rating was 4. This suggests that our products were very successful although had some
improvements to be made.
