Cannabis In Canada
Abstract
Cannabis use, though still somewhat stigmatized in the media, is among one of the fastest growing trends in Canada among youths and adults alike.
The evidence I have gathered through statistical analysis and secondary research shows that cannabis has become the recreational drug of choice
among Canadians. This is due to a host of factors. One of these factors is a record breaking positive public perception of cannabis among Canadians.
The way the public perceives a drug is very important, and for something as taboo as cannabis to be accepted by the public and the media takes time
and effort. This struggle to increase the positive perception of cannabis among Canadians has paid off greatly, displayed in national surveys where...

Sandberg, S. (2011, August 3) The Department of Sociology and Human Geography in Norway did a study on the public perception of marijuana
among Norwegians who part take. A study done on 100 cannabis users saw that their perception of the drug was either neutral or positive. Unlike
tobacco users or alcoholics, cannabis users don't see much of a problem with using weed (another slang term for cannabis). They don't seem to
understand that smoking this product can have similar effects on their lungs as cigarettes (though not as destructive). The idea that teens do drugs to
rebel against society is actually un–true, the exact opposite is true. When cannabis is talked about so positively in the media and among politicians, it
actually makes teenagers think the drug is safe and subconsciously encourages them to do it. Alcohol and cigarettes aren't looked at so positively in
society, and thus the use of these drugs among youths is falling dramatically (yes, even alcohol). They see these drugs as life threatening, manmade
chemicals ingested by older folk, while cannabis is seen as this great, all natural remedy to many ailments in life (depression, anxiety, appetite loss,
insomnia, etc). Though much of marijuana's positive attributes are supported by science, there are some misconceptions that leave teens with the
wrong ideas about cannabis, such as marijuana has no negative mental effects on the user. This lax approach to the

The Pros And Cons Of Medical Marijuana
Pros and Cons of Medical Marijuana
Have you ever felt like your prescribed medicine isn't working? Maybe the medicine is causing even more issues than when you began? There is
another answer to these problems, and a new way to ease pain. Medical marijuana may be the holy grail to medicine. Marijuana, also known as cannabis
sativa (National Institute on Drug Abuse), is one of the 50 fundamental herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine (Torrey). One in three Americans
have used Marijuana at least once ("Negative Side Effects of Smoking Marijuana"). The two medical active ingredients are cannabidiol also known as
CBD, and tetrahydrocannabinol also known as THC. CBD has an impact on the brain without the high. THC has pain relieving properties and gives a
person that high feeling (Loria). Marijuana affects everyone differently, but there are some pros and cons that have an effect on everyone.
There are some short term negative effects that come with abusing the substance. Side effects include less coordination , skin rashes, dry mouth,
fatigue, blurred vision , distrust, depression, suicidal thoughts, and memory loss. Overdose on marijuana causes anxiety and panic (Tracy;Watson).
Three of the most common short term side effects are headaches, paranoia, and allergy.
The headache might be caused by the rolling papers having irritating chemicals, and residual fertilizers that are used on the marijuana plant. The
paranoia comes from smoking way too often. It gives the user

High School Persuasive Speech
Today, we lived in a world full of threats, dangers, and risks. When we look around, we see menace every which way. Especially to young people,
such as high school students, whose brains are just developing into the real world, are captured by these traps. High school is a hard time in
everyone's lives, 4 years to study hard to get into a good college, to discover themselves, and to shape their personalities for the rest of their mortal
life. Yes, we are all sensible to how stressful and burdensomehigh school can be. The overloading amount of work, running on 3 hours of sleep
every night... Suddenly though, they turn to other choices. Drugs to take their pain away, alcohol to make them "relax". But at the end, these
foolish decisions will just hurt you for the rest of your life. Why do people even do drugs? To fit in? To escape from real world situations? Because of
boredom? None of these reasons are an excuse.. To the people who abuse any type of horrible drug: do you know what will happen later on? Do you
know what will happen if you never let go of that cigarette you are holding in your hand? Do you know what will happen if you continue smoking that
dreadful air into your beautiful healthy lungs?
Some people hold onto their cigarettes like it is their lifeline. If you resist the warnings, soon enough, the power of the cigarettes will seep into your
hands. Soon enough, the circulation to your hands will stop, and the veins will stop pumping blood to the place where

Why Marijuana Should be Legalized Essay
According to archeologists, the cannabis plant was among the first crops purposely cultivated by human beings at least 6,000 years ago and perhaps
even more than 12,000 years ago. It is considered by many to be one of the most resourceful crops on earth. It can be used for industrial, medical, and
recreational purposes. Rather than waging war on marijuana users, this resourceful crop should be legalized and utilized.
The cannabis sativa plant produces more protein, oil, and fiber than any other plant on earth. In fact, it can be used to produce more than 5,000 textile
products ranging from rope to paper. Aside from being resourceful, it is also very nutritious. According to Dr. Udo Erasmus, "hempseed oil is... Show

In 1990, 48 percent of doctors surveyed by the American Society of Clinical Oncology said they would prescribe marijuana if it were legal. Another 30
percent said they would need more information before prescribing it, and only 22 percent said they would not use prescribe it. 44 percent of the doctors
admitted to actually recommending smoking marijuana to cancer patients to combat nausea associated with chemotherapy. Furthermore, studies show
that the smoking of marijuana, even long term, is not harmful to health. So the question arises again, why won't the federal government legalize
marijuana?
Since 1937, the US government has been waging war against marijuana users. So much time has been spent on mere drug offenders while rapists and
murderers walk the streets raping and murdering. According to the Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 70–plus
million Americans have admitted to smoking marijuana at least once in their lifetime. It is a harmless source of recreation for millions of people
around the world. It has also been proven that marijuana helps to relieve stress. Furthermore, there is absolutely no proof that smoking marijuana can
make a person stupid or numb or affect a child's score on a test. Some believe that the legalization of marijuana would result in increased usage or act
as a gateway to harder drugs. Marijuana is legal for

Marijuana is from the flowers, seeds, leaves, and stems. Marijuana has many names such as pot, weed, hash, Dank, gas, bud, Broccoli and tons of
other names. The main way people use marijuana is by smoking or vaping it. However you can also consume marijuana as an ingredient in food,
tea, or oils. Marijuana is one of the most commonly used drugs in the world, used by millions of people throughout the United States on a regular
basis. In fact this drug is used by many famous people which may make the drug seem like there's nothing wrong with it and it's cool. Kids as young
as ages of 13 are getting involved with this drug. They may try marijuana without knowing what it is or what effects is has on you. With the young

Abstract
This paper examines the effects that cannabis abuse has on human health over an extended period. Over the years, some researchers have concluded
that continuous use of the drug during adolescence, but not adulthood, could permanently impair cognition and increase the risk for psychiatric
diseases. Other studies suggest that heavy use amongst users can cause changes in subjective mental status, brain functioning, and neuropsychological
performance. Approximately 9% of those who experiment with cannabis will become addicted, and the treatment for addiction can be challenging, as it
often leads to withdrawal symptoms. Consequently, most governments around the globe decided to enact legislation in the early to mid 20th century,
to help control its abuse; however, recently, some countries in the Western World have begun to allow its use for medicinal and recreational purposes.

The Effects Of Marijuana And Why It Should Be Prohibited
The Negative Effects of Marijuana and Why It Should Be Prohibited
Abdulkader Hamdoun

Nowadays, legalizing marijuana is considered a sensitive issue among societies and governments. Marijuana has become one of the most commonly
used drugs all over the world. Some people suggest that it should be permissible, while others believe that it is hazardous and it should be prohibited. It
is true that marijuana has a few positive effects that contribute in the medical field, but we cannot deny the fact that the majority of its effects are
negative. Therefore, marijuana should be prohibited because of its effects on adolescent, the effects on brain health, and its effects on the physical
health.
It is true that some studies suggest that cannabis, which is the plant from which marijuana is derived, has some positive impacts on certain illnesses.
For instance, a laboratory study shows that THC, which is one of the compounds in the cannabis plant, may be useful for increasing appetite. Also,
another study suggests that THC can contribute positively in treating glaucoma by reducing intraocular pressure. Furthermore, a study indicates that
THC can be a pain relief to patients who suffer from multiple sclerosis. However, that does not mean that marijuana should be legal and all of these
points are not sufficient for legalizing marijuana (Godandscience.org, 2015).
The first reason why marijuana should be prohibited is that it affects adolescents'

Argumentative Essay On Marijuana
Marijuana a drug or elixir of good health.
Marijuana is a very controversial topic today. The United States made it illegal in the mid–1920 and has been illegal ever since until recent times. It has
been told that Medical marijuana has many health benefits and is also proven to help cure some deadly diseases. Using marijuana for medicinal
purposes is not a recent discovery. The use of marijuana dates back nearly 5000 years. Western medicine embraced its medicinal properties in the
mid–1800's. Physicians have published more than 100 papers in the western medical literature recommending its use for a variety of disorders
(Urena). India is the world's 2nd largest population with 1.525 billion people unfortunately a lot of them suffer from cancer and other deadly diseases.
In this argumentative essay I am going to link the medicinal benefits of using marijuana and how it can help the people of India.
Cannabis consumption and production are governed by the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Under this law, the consumption of
cannabis could lead to a jail term of six months or a fine of Rs10,000, Cultivation could lead to a term of 10 years. Though marijuana grows wild in
India. Its possession or use is illegal. Marijuana is widely used in India, so why not legalize it. Especially if its known for having medical benefits such
as treating chronic pain, nausea after chemotherapy, epilepsy, and symptoms of multiple sclerosis (Balachandran, 2017). India has a huge

differences between the two of them, but there is, without any doubt, one that has a lot more negative effects on the human body and the human brain
than the other. Due to research we can compare them and conclude which one is worse.

It is grown all over the world and supports a billion–dollar industry. Tobacco is dried and processed, then either placed into cigarettes and processed, or
manufactured for chewing tobacco. The psychoactive ingredient is nicotine, a stimulant, but more than 4,000 other chemicals (2,000 of which are
known to be poisonous) are present in cigarettes (Health).
Tobacco is a nervous system stimulant that triggers complex biochemical and neurotransmitter disruptions. It elevates heart rate and blood pressure,
constricts blood vessels, irritates lung tissue, and diminishes your ability to taste and smell (Health).
Many people think smoking marijuana is just as harmful as smoking tobacco, but this is not true. Those who hold that marijuana is equivalent to
tobacco are misinformed. Due to the efforts of various federal agencies to discourage the use of marijuana in the 1970's the government conducted
several biased studies designed to return results that would equate marijuana smoking with tobacco smoking, or

The Negative Effects Of Cannabis
Cannabis has been studied by many scientists to find the medicinal value, and to decide whether the negative effects were too damaging to ignore.
Many patients use cannabis to ease pain and to help relieve symptoms from illnesses. Cannabis, wheather used for medicinal purposes or not, is
damaging to the brain, damages the lungs and is not only harmful to the user, but to others around the user. In recent studies, the findings suggest that
long–term cannabis use is associated with brain morphing alterations in regions linked to memory and executive and affective processing. A decrease in
hippocampal volume in regular cannabis smokers has been correlated with lifetime consumption and psychotic symptoms. When comparing gray
matter volume between groups, they found that significant clusters showing a lower gray matter volume in regular cannabis users compared with
occasional ones are located bilaterally in the temporal pole. Regular users exhibit a decrease in gray matter (GM) volume in the medial temporal cortex,
temporal pole, parahippocampal gyrus, left insula, and orbitofrontal cortex (Battistella et al). It has been demonstrated that the main psychoactive
component of cannabis (О”9–Tetrahydrocannabinol,THC) induces dose–dependent toxicity and structural changes in brain regions rich in cannabinoid
CB1 receptors. Not only does cannabis affect adult brains, it affects underdeveloped brains as well. Specifically, significant gray matter atrophy can
occur either with a heavy cannabis consumption independent of the age of first use or with recreational consumption that started during adolescence
(before the age of 18). The duration of exposure to cannabis is indeed associated with localized volume reduction in regions rich in CB1 receptors,
correlating with the amount of cannabis used. The progression of a long–term exposure to drugs toward the development of substance use disorders
and addictive behaviors is often associated with deficits in decision making. FMRI demonstrates altered brain activity in core regions linked to the
motivational and affective aspects of decision making, mainly in the ventromedial prefrontal (VMPFC) and orbitofrontal cortices and insula. In this
regard, it has been demonstrated that

Medical Marijuana Should Be Legal
The term medical marijuana refers to the using the whole unprocessed marijuana plant or its basic extracts to treat a disease or symptom. But how
can you really help? Medical marijuana may help stop the growth of blood vessels that feed cancerous tumors. And what I am currently researching
is how medical marijuana can help treat illnesses. For medical marijuana we basically use THC and CBD both or cannabinoids that are in the
marijuana plant. For THC it increases appetite and reduces nausea. THC me also decrease pain inflammation and muscle control problems. Also a
cannabinoid known as CBD may be useful in reducing pain and inflammation controlling seizures. But overall marijuana isn 't just a fun thing to use it
is something more special it 's something that people with medical issues can use to help treat their illness. Many countries have approved a mouth
spray containing THC and CBD both us particles that are in the marijuana plant. Which is also used in medical marijuana research. The FDA still
have not approved the medical marijuana plant which we use to help treat illnesses. Also the FDA uses THC and CBD which is in the marijuana plant.
THC increases appetite and reduces nausea. The FDA–approved THC–based medications are used for these purposes. THC may also decrease pain,
inflammation (swelling and redness), and muscle control problems. Of course there 's always a government company that stops the drug from going

Moreover, legalization of cannabis can address some of the negative social consequences related to the black market for cannabis which include, "...
Unsafe environments created by the illegal distribution of the drug and the negative consequences of criminal labeling for possession of small amounts
of marijuana" (Hajizadeh, 2016, p. 6). In addition, the legalization of cannabis can also reduce the stigma associated with the substance which would
make it more socially acceptable. By rendering this substance more acceptable, it would reduce the negative mental health impacts associated with
having a criminal record. For example, a person with a criminal record may not be accepted in society because of the stigma and labels associated
with "criminals," which can lead to feelings of isolation a sense of not belonging. These feelings of social isolation can lead to depression and
anxiety, which would be significantly reduced by the legalization of cannabis. Although the legalization would benefit society, a societal acceptance of
cannabis use would also carry risks as well. A reduction or elimination of stigma associated with cannabis use may entice more people to try the
substance. Although adults can use the substance in a low risk manner, there are more health concerns related to cannabis use in youth since their
brains are not fully developed (CCSA, 2007, p. 17). Cognitive development becomes more rapid during teenage years; there are number of vital

older siblings. When interviewing Jada she said, "I only started because of my friends, they said I would like it so I tried it, and I did." Desiree

In the United States, the most significantly used illicit drug is marijuana. People use this social drug to ease or enhance interaction (Kornblum 115).
The scientific term for this commonly used drug, marijuana, is Cannabis sativa (Hasday 24). Cannabis sativa is a dioecious hemp plant and can be
produced in various forms. Usually, the dried leaves, flowers, and buds of the plant is used as marijuana. In addition, the flowers of the female plant

Should Marijuana Be Legalized? Essay
SHOULD MARIJUANA BE LEGALIZED?
Marijuana is a drug that has sparked much controversy over the past decade as to whether or not it should be legalized. People once thought of
marijuana as a bad, mind–altering drug which changes a person's personality which can lead to crime and violence through selling and buying it. In
the past, the majority of citizens believed that marijuana is a harmful drug that should be kept off the market and out of the hands of the public.
However, a recent study conducted by Pew Research Center has concluded people's view may be changing. For the first time since 1969, the public's
opinion has undergone a dramatic long–term shift. According to Pew's 2015 survey, 53% of the people polled favor the legal use of marijuana, while
44% are opposed. However, in 2006, just 32% supported marijuana legalization, while nearly twice as many 60% were opposed. The group that was
responsible for this change was the 18–34 year olds with 68% of them in favor of its legalization. However, across all generations, with the exception of
the age group of 70–87 year–olds, support for this drug's legalization has risen over the past decade (Pew Research Center, 2015). People believe that
the legalization of marijuana will lead to a decrease in recreational use, drug addictions, and crime.

Although there is an abundance of previous research conducted on the effects of marijuana use on work/school (Earleywine 2002, Neinstein 2002,
Roffman, R, Stephens, R & Marlatt G 2006), the participants involved continue to have both positive and negative accounts for marijuana use on work
and school. The various detrimental effects range from the effects that marijuana has such as the changes of capabilities that are required for activities
such as work and/or study. These include motivation, memory and cognition and also capabilities of vehicle operation for work including visual
perception and divided attention. The use of marijuana has been found to have a range of harmful effects on the health state of an individual, which can
affect work ability (Smith et al. 2013). Involved in this are the potential for a progression to harder drugs, mental illness, worsened immune function,
lung cancer and brain tissue damage (Earleywine 2002). However, some researchers do not believe that all the side effects of marijuana use have
negative consequences. For example (Aronson 2009) believes that it has a significant positive contribution in medical value with the treatment of
conditions that may be detrimental to work ability. These include issues such as pain, nausea, appetite loss and neurological disorders.

Effects Of The Criminalization Of Alcohol On America...
Introduction
This essay aims to show that if alcohol is legal, cannabis should be also. To do so I will compare the effects both substances have on the health of
their users. I will then examine how much scientific evidence has been used when criminalizing marijuana and whether that evidence is still applicable
today. Finally, I will analyze the effects of the criminalization of alcohol in America during the 1920s. I will use this case to show that the misguided
prohibition of alcohol is comparable to the current marijuana laws. Though the situation was in a different social setting (and I will go over that as
well), I will endeavor to show that, in the same was as it was in 1933, legalization not only provides a healthier lifestyle for users, but also breaks
down the criminal organizations that profit from it.
Existing Laws in the UK
The current drug laws that are in effect in the UK are those set forth in the Drugs Misuse Act of 1971. The act separates illegal drugs into A, B and
C classes; A being the most harmful drugs and therefore the most heavily penalised, and C being the least. Marijuana is currently qualified as a
class C drug, after it was advised by Proffesor Sir Michael Rawlins, Chairman of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, to be reduced from
class B in 2002. The report contained a re–examination of the health and social risks of the drug, and within the cover letter states "The council

They just think that marijuana is bad. I believe that marijuana should be made legal. First of all, marijuana refers to the dried leaves and flowers of the
cannabis plant, which contain the narcotic chemical THC at various potencies.
It is smoked or eaten to produce the feeling of being "high". Marijuana has been used for thousands of years for medical, social, relaxation, and
religious reasons. Several of our presidents are believed to have smoked it. Those presidents include Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, and many others.

The government states that over 20 million Americans still smoke marijuana. You can say that marijuana affects your health, but marijuana is less
dangerous than tobacco and people smoke less of it at a time. Or you can eat the plant instead of smoking it, which can lower health risks by a lot.
Another way to reduce health risks is by reducing smoking amounts. There is no proof that marijuana causes health problems that can lead to death
or sexual programs, but like alcohol, it is not recommended for children or teenagers to use. This is simply because children and teenagers are in the
process of growing up, and it would not be a good idea to smoke anything or drink alcohol. Cannabis is a medical herb that has literally hundreds of
proven, valuable therapeutic uses. For example, you can use marijuana for stress reduction, asthma, cancer therapy, and much more. Marijuana is not
just for getting "high", but a valuable medical medicine. Dr. Gabriel Nahas, who made totally false statistics and studies, was very biased and
unscientific. He was even fired by the National Institute of

Second Prohibition Research Paper
The Second Prohibition With recent years, excessive controversy has been brought up around marijuana. The birth of this comes from more states
pushing for legalization. Marijuana, as a part of American history, is now being compared to another huge substance that has associated itself with
American history: alcohol. These comparisons are coming from anti–legalization supporters and should not be happening at all. Alcohol is not as
regulated and educated than marijuana, even though pot has additional benefits, identical side effects, and a similar history to alcohol.

Argumentative Essay On Medical Marijuana
Medical Marijuana "Research has not demonstrated that smoked marijuana is helpful as medicine" (Marijuana, 30). Medical marijuana is said to
have many uses. It can help with seizures or epilepsy. Medical Marijuana was legalized in 1996. People have used this plant for many different
medical reasons, how and why do people use it? What are cannabinoids? Why should we legalize it? How do people use medical marijuana and
why? There are many ways of using medical marijuana. Some people smoke it, some people take pills, and some even vaporize it. "Since 1992,
Donald Abrams, a physician at the University of California, San Francisco, has sought approval for a pilot clinical trial on the possibility that
smoking pot can improve the appetites of people with AIDS and hence increase their weights"(Peter Gwynne). People with Aids and cancer have used

Argumentative Essay: The Legalization Of Marijuana
The debate on whether marijuana should be legal is very controversial. Cannabis is illegal to possess, consume, purchase, grow, and transfer in
most countries. Currently medical marijuana is legal in 23 states and has been legalized for recreational use in Colorado, Washington, Alaska, and
now Oregon. Many people want to keep marijuana illegal, yet they have little information on all facts about marijuana and the purposes it can
serve. While some people may enjoy a glass of wine after work to relax, others may want to smoke a little weed to find the relaxation they desire after
work. Just as some people are social drinkers, we now know there are social smokers as well. Over the years the number of people supporting

Legalizing pot can help with the overcrowded jails, and if sold in legal operations it will increase the states revenue. "In 1992, James Gierach ran for
Cook County state's attorney on a platform of addressing drugs as a medical and economic issue instead of a criminal problem– and ending the arrests
of nonviolent users" (Cannabis Crusader). If we don't legalize marijuana the judicial system will continue to incarcerate people for the simple
possession of marijuana. These cases are normally defended by court appointed public defenders whose caseloads are normally full of possession
of marijuana charges. Our jails will continue to be overcrowded with nonviolent offenders who may be there based on small quantities of
possession. When we look back into the issue of increased revenue for the states we can see an area that Politian's normally consider when deciding
if marijuana should be legalized or not. Will legalizing marijuana be for the good of the majority or the minority? Even in Canada, "The new call is to
legalize it completely and regulate its production and sale, much as is done with alcohol, is in stark contrast to the governing Conservatives, who've
included stiffer penalties for marijuana possession in their omnibus tough–on–crime bill" (Liberals Endorse Legalizing Marijuana). Due to the current
state of the economy many states are barely making it and they see the money that Colorado is making, and that they to could make from legalizing
marijuana as a way out. Recently while introducing the House Joint Resolution 140 (which will research the benefits of selling marijuana at ABC
stores), Virginia Delegate David Englin stated, "Right now people are smoking marijuana secretly, they're spending money on it and it's going into the
hands of criminals. This legislation just seeks to find out how much money we could potentially be

Marijuana in the late 1960s' had only one percent of tetrahydrocannabinol, compared to present day where Health Canada has discovered there is at
least 10 percent of tetrahydrocannabinol and 30 percent in some cases. The tetrahydrocannabinol is a strong chemical and works immediately after one
has inhaled it. Tetrahydrocannabinol mimics the neurotransmitter anandamide, which fills in the synapse between neurons and this disrupts the brain's
regular functions. In a normally functioning brain, anandamide activates the cannabinoid receptors but when smoking marijuana tetrahydrocannabinol
activates these receptors which are in the hippocampus, cerebellum and basal ganglia. This affects the short–term memory, coordination, and learning
and problem–solving skills for an individual. Brain development is also affected by the use of cannabis. Dr. Harold Kalant conducted a study in the
1980s' with rats and cannabis use. He separated the rats into two groups; rats exposed to cannabis at adolescents and rats exposed to cannabis in
adulthood. Kalant observed the rats exposed to cannabis as adolescents, had difficulty with memory and learning even after nine years of no exposure.
In comparison, the rats who were adults when exposed to cannabis didn't have long term effects. It is evident that brain development was disrupted by
the use of cannabis in the growing years. Also, Dr. Andra Smith saw in her functional magnetic resonance imaging of brain activity of regular cannabis
smokers and non–smokers, that the smokers had a more brain activity. She stated it was due to the brain having to work hard to "respond accurately".
It is obvious that brain function and development is harshly impacted by the use of

Anti–Smoking Advertisement; "Smoking Kills"
Smoking has a large impact amongst citizens in the United States, with a little less than 20% of the population smoking. Smoking, in the United
States, is the number one cause of easily preventable deaths. Seeing these alarming deaths people decided they would make scary and startling
advertisements to get the point across. These ads were taking people's breath away, they were seeing the effects of smoking in a light they hadn't
previously thought about. The ad I chose to analyse has a man holding a cigarette between his middle and index finger while an above light source
illuminates the shape of a gun behind the cigarette, and if you look close you can see that the man's index finger is holding the trigger of said gun to
further the statement being made. This image uses the three modes of persuasion to caution viewers to not begin or continue smoking. The audience
this artist is advertising towards is both smokers and non–smokers. Although this specific ad can be for any viewer, different groups of people will
interpret the ad differently based on their smoking status. If you are a smoker the image is going to spark concern within you, possibly make you
want to change your habits for the better. If you are not a smoker the image will most likely cause you to have an even lower tolerance for smoking
or not feel affected by it as it has no influence on their personal life. When I first saw the image it made me have even more disdain for smoking. To
exemplify this point logos was strongly used. The biggest and most obvious, point of this ad is that smoking is terrible for your health. This specific
ad conveys this image by using an object of known destruction in place of a cigarette. Having something, in this case, the gun, that is known to be a
thing of destruction puts the idea of smoking in a new light. From the common knowledge of smoking's risks and the gun in the silhouette of the
cigarette, we can safely assume that the artist is telling us smoking is a death wish. Another rhetorical appeal that has an effect on the ad is theethos. I
personally do not know this artist of the ad, and

THC
Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), also known as delta–9–tetrahydrocannabinol is the main psychoactive substance found in the cannabis plant. Cannabis
isn't just a single drug molecule, like alcohol or cocaine, but a mix of over 420 different chemical components. 61 of the called cannabinoids are
unique to marijuana. THC is the chemical that triggers cannabis' main drug action and effects in the body and brain. THC is like a feel–good chemical
bomb that explodes on contact, and then breaks up into at least 80 different by products (or metabolites) before it's eliminated from the body. The
process starts as soon as THC enters the blood stream, and begins zeroing in on cannabinoid receptors in the brain and central nervous system Once it
checks into the brain, THC takes its own time in checking out. Unlike many other drugs, which are excreted from the body within hours, THC
metabolites stick around––stored

Why Do People Use Cannabis?
Introduction
Cannabis is a controlled drug within New Zealand. However, Cannabis should be used for medical purposes, but it also should be studied more and
tested. This is because chemicals that the cannabis oil carries can cure cancer.
What is Cannabis
Cannabis, also known as hemp, is a species of the Cannabinaceae family of plants. The resinous secretions of the plant are known as hashish, which can
be smoked or eaten. The fiber of the cannabis plant is cultivated as industrial hemp with uses in textile manufacturing. Why do people use Cannabis
Some people smoke cannabis for its psychoactive properties and some also smoke it as a medicament. Another reason people use cannabis is it can
help with weight loss. Smoking this makes people feel good because of the THC but the side effects of smoking can kill brain cells.

These can include dangerous side effects such as depression. A molecule inside the cannabis reacts with one of the cells in your brain which can

people suffering from epilepsy and other related diseases. A scientific experiment was conducted with 213 people who took a drug called Epidiolex
(99% Cannabidiol (CBD)). The 213 people had epilepsy. There were results of 137 people who completed 12 weeks of treatment. Seizures decreased
by an average of 54%. There was a improvement in seizures that lasted through 24 week on the Epidiolex, more people finished the treatment with less

Marijuana Has A Negative Effect On Your Health
I believe that cannabis has a negative effect on your health. Now I'm fully aware that a portion of the world's population truly believe that cannabis is
nothing more than a harmless drug that is used for nothing more than recreational use and will not have any long–term effects on your health, but I
want you to ponder on the thought of my statement and why I might believe that cannabis has a negative effect on your health. First what is cannabis?
according to drugs.com cannabis also known as "Cannabis sativa, is a species of the Cannabaceae family plants" and "contains the chemical compound
THC (delta–9 tetrahydrocannabinol), which is believed to be responsible for most of the characteristics psychoactive effects of cannabis." Furthermore,
what is health? according to Merriam–Webster health is "the condition of being well or free from disease". Now if you just read the two definitions
of cannabis and health you can see why someone would want to further research this issue just based on the wording alone, in the definition cannabis
is says the plant can cause psychoactive effects and in the definition of health it states free from disease but if one is using cannabis that can cause
these effects it would be impossible to truly be free from disease which lies the major problem and gets to the root of my thought process and why I
believe that cannabis has a negative effect on your health. To elaborate more on the factors that contributed to me believing that cannabis has a

Drinking And Driving Case Study
1.Was This Presentation Valuable?
This presentation on the risks of driving while under the influence of cannabis was extremely informative while also being engaging and interesting
at the same time. In my opinion, the presentation was particularly valuable because drugs have become a very prominent subject among my age
group, and not everyone is knowledgeable of all the risks associated with smoking. In health, we learn about the effects of drugs and the risks of
drinking alcohol and driving, however, we don't really cover the topic of smoking and driving, which leads people to think there is nothing at risk. This
presentation informs us of the potentially deadly risks of driving while under the influence of cannabis that many people are unaware of. As well, the
information provided not only informs people who do/might smoke in the future of what they may be putting at risk, but it also informs people of the
risk who then could prevent a friend of potentially making the poor decision of smoking and driving.

One interesting thing is that almost 50% of youth indicated no concerns about smoking and driving. I found this puzzling because as teens, our school,

teens know the risks of smoking, they don't have concerns for increasing those risks by driving, which would put many more people at risk of an
accident. Another thing I found interesting is that almost 1 in 5 youths in vehicle accidents tested positive for cannabis. This shows how prominent the
issue is in our society, especially in youth, and proves that more promotion of the risks should be done, such as this type of presentation, in order to
control the

Smoking Is Bad For The Body
Did you know that three out of four teens in high school admit to doing or being addicted to drugs? A majority of the teenagers today will more than
likely face short or long–term health issues from the usage of "drugs," preferably marijuana. What kind of short and long–term health issues you may
ask? Well short–term health issues would include drowsiness/relaxation; slowed reaction time; problems with balance and coordination; increased heart
rate and appetite; problems with learning and memory; hallucinations; anxiety and panic attacks! On the other hand we have long–term health issues
which include mental health problems, chronic cough, frequent respiratory infections. Smoking weed is a problem among teenagers today that tend to
take on health issues in the body such as danger to the adolescent brain, symptoms of chronic bronchitis, lung irritation and reproduction effects. One
reason smoking weed is bad for the body is because it causes damage to the adolescent brain. "The brain is the command center of you body. It
weighs about three pounds and has different centers or systems that process different kinds of information. THC in marijuana affects the way that
sensory information is processed. THC is up to no good in the brain. THC finds brain cells, or neurons, with specific kinds of receptors called

Persuasive Essay On Anti Smoking
Anti–smoking campaigns have been around since the 1960s because the dangers of smoking became more relevant and was brought to the public. This
ultimately created controversy among all Americans. Actions brought forth by the government were very beneficial, but has not come close to
completely ending smoking. The visual image seen on the first page of this document conveys the argument that smoking cigarettes, or any type of
tobacco, will have a declining effect on one's future by limiting their life expectancy. Although there is no clear location of where and when the image
was produced, one might believe that it was found in a magazine. The purpose of this visual is that smoking will eventually kill a consistent consumer.
The image is made by an anti–smoking advertisement who used a very dramatic format which will be able to impact people on a more emotional
level. The development of the image is to scare and intimidate not only people who are starting to smoke but also existing smokers. Also, nonsmokers
want the smokers they know to quit because they care about their well–being. This advertisement was also created for the clear purpose that the leaders
of the community don't want these products, that have been proven to be detrimental to citizens' health, to be used. The argument for the visual is
upheld because it is arguing that smoking cigarettes will cause the shortening of the life of consumers. The image is a clock with a bundle of
cigarettes tied together and then connected by a long wick, this is portrayed in a way that represent a stick of dynamite attached to a timer with a
lighter near the wick that will light it. The image is establishing these values because dynamite is capable of destroying and harming its surroundings.
Underneath the visual the purpose of the image is also further supported through text. It says, "Every Breath You Take Will Eventually Destroy Your
Future." This illustrates that through every puff of a cigarette it increases your chances of getting diseases or cancer, hence destroying your future.
Through the image it portrays that every time you light up a cigarette it takes time off your life clock. The image is being viewed from the point of
view of a smoker and it

The media are often guilty of presenting studies in a way that leads to misinterpretation by the public. A recent BBC news article reads "Cannabis use

that there has been a clear causal relationship found between smoking cannabis and the development of mental illnesses (News, 2011; Hope, 2011).

Due to the lack of experimental control, large participant samples are required in order to look for a connection between cannabis use and psychosis.
This further reduces researchers' ability do large–scale studies looking directly at the effects of cannabis use. It is not economically feasible to
diagnose an follow a large cohort of participants using objective clinical measures. This means that the validity of the research is stretched further, as
cost effective means of measuring psychoticism and cannabis do not use direct measures. Psychoticism is generally inferred by way of self–reports
from individuals on whether they have experienced psychotic symptoms. This might introduce confounds, and further reduces the likelihood that
self–reports of incidence psychotic symptoms are truly indicative of cannabis being a causal risk in developing a mental illness. For example,
participants may become aware of the purpose of the study and worry about drug–use having an effect, thus start to actively look for and remember
such incidences, more so than non–users.
Due to ethical, funding and time constraints, it is incredibly difficult for researchers to get a clear picture of the effect cannabis use has on the
development of mental illnesses such as schizophrenia. The field of research is marred with problems, there is still

The Negative Effects Of Marijuana
Some people drink alcohol simply for the reason they like the taste, and others might use marijuana as long as it calms their anxiety. Although these
substances show some positive effects, what people don't take into consideration is the fact that both can weaken your mind and your body in certain
ways. The difference between the negative effects of marijuana and the negative effects of alcohol on your body are your ability to drive, your physical
health, and your memory. The biggest part about marijuana people don't realize, is it does in fact decline some of your motor skills' ability to work at
full capacity in your brain. A review of scientific evidence taken from NORML, the National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws a non–profit
organization based in Washington, DC, shows, "Althoughcannabis has been shown to mildly impair psychomotor skills, this impairment does not
appear too severe or long lasting." So even though smoking weed does affect you in some ways, your ability to drive is not fully impaired and only
flawed for a short amount of time.
Using marijuana is not only dangerous for your body's health, but for your overall safety as well. Studies have shown from NORML New Zealand,
stating, "Those involved in vehicle crashes with THC in their blood, particularly higher levels, are three to seven times more likely to be responsible
for the incident than drivers who had not used drugs or alcohol. However, the role played by marijuana in crashes is often unclear

when he realizes how risky the business is as in when he says, " "Hey," Horn started in, "Our weeds been ripped off." "(Norberg, 314). By this point
Sheldon has already come to realize the downfalls and now the risks of the business and he came to the realization that the risk wasn't worth the

Cannabis In Canada

  • 1. Cannabis In Canada Abstract Cannabis use, though still somewhat stigmatized in the media, is among one of the fastest growing trends in Canada among youths and adults alike. The evidence I have gathered through statistical analysis and secondary research shows that cannabis has become the recreational drug of choice among Canadians. This is due to a host of factors. One of these factors is a record breaking positive public perception of cannabis among Canadians. The way the public perceives a drug is very important, and for something as taboo as cannabis to be accepted by the public and the media takes time and effort. This struggle to increase the positive perception of cannabis among Canadians has paid off greatly, displayed in national surveys where... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sandberg, S. (2011, August 3) The Department of Sociology and Human Geography in Norway did a study on the public perception of marijuana among Norwegians who part take. A study done on 100 cannabis users saw that their perception of the drug was either neutral or positive. Unlike tobacco users or alcoholics, cannabis users don't see much of a problem with using weed (another slang term for cannabis). They don't seem to understand that smoking this product can have similar effects on their lungs as cigarettes (though not as destructive). The idea that teens do drugs to rebel against society is actually un–true, the exact opposite is true. When cannabis is talked about so positively in the media and among politicians, it actually makes teenagers think the drug is safe and subconsciously encourages them to do it. Alcohol and cigarettes aren't looked at so positively in society, and thus the use of these drugs among youths is falling dramatically (yes, even alcohol). They see these drugs as life threatening, manmade chemicals ingested by older folk, while cannabis is seen as this great, all natural remedy to many ailments in life (depression, anxiety, appetite loss, insomnia, etc). Though much of marijuana's positive attributes are supported by science, there are some misconceptions that leave teens with the wrong ideas about cannabis, such as marijuana has no negative mental effects on the user. This lax approach to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Medical Marijuana Pros and Cons of Medical Marijuana Have you ever felt like your prescribed medicine isn't working? Maybe the medicine is causing even more issues than when you began? There is another answer to these problems, and a new way to ease pain. Medical marijuana may be the holy grail to medicine. Marijuana, also known as cannabis sativa (National Institute on Drug Abuse), is one of the 50 fundamental herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine (Torrey). One in three Americans have used Marijuana at least once ("Negative Side Effects of Smoking Marijuana"). The two medical active ingredients are cannabidiol also known as CBD, and tetrahydrocannabinol also known as THC. CBD has an impact on the brain without the high. THC has pain relieving properties and gives a person that high feeling (Loria). Marijuana affects everyone differently, but there are some pros and cons that have an effect on everyone. There are some short term negative effects that come with abusing the substance. Side effects include less coordination , skin rashes, dry mouth, fatigue, blurred vision , distrust, depression, suicidal thoughts, and memory loss. Overdose on marijuana causes anxiety and panic (Tracy;Watson). Three of the most common short term side effects are headaches, paranoia, and allergy. The headache might be caused by the rolling papers having irritating chemicals, and residual fertilizers that are used on the marijuana plant. The paranoia comes from smoking way too often. It gives the user ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. High School Persuasive Speech Today, we lived in a world full of threats, dangers, and risks. When we look around, we see menace every which way. Especially to young people, such as high school students, whose brains are just developing into the real world, are captured by these traps. High school is a hard time in everyone's lives, 4 years to study hard to get into a good college, to discover themselves, and to shape their personalities for the rest of their mortal life. Yes, we are all sensible to how stressful and burdensomehigh school can be. The overloading amount of work, running on 3 hours of sleep every night... Suddenly though, they turn to other choices. Drugs to take their pain away, alcohol to make them "relax". But at the end, these foolish decisions will just hurt you for the rest of your life. Why do people even do drugs? To fit in? To escape from real world situations? Because of boredom? None of these reasons are an excuse.. To the people who abuse any type of horrible drug: do you know what will happen later on? Do you know what will happen if you never let go of that cigarette you are holding in your hand? Do you know what will happen if you continue smoking that dreadful air into your beautiful healthy lungs? Some people hold onto their cigarettes like it is their lifeline. If you resist the warnings, soon enough, the power of the cigarettes will seep into your hands. Soon enough, the circulation to your hands will stop, and the veins will stop pumping blood to the place where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Why Marijuana Should be Legalized Essay According to archeologists, the cannabis plant was among the first crops purposely cultivated by human beings at least 6,000 years ago and perhaps even more than 12,000 years ago. It is considered by many to be one of the most resourceful crops on earth. It can be used for industrial, medical, and recreational purposes. Rather than waging war on marijuana users, this resourceful crop should be legalized and utilized. The cannabis sativa plant produces more protein, oil, and fiber than any other plant on earth. In fact, it can be used to produce more than 5,000 textile products ranging from rope to paper. Aside from being resourceful, it is also very nutritious. According to Dr. Udo Erasmus, "hempseed oil is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1990, 48 percent of doctors surveyed by the American Society of Clinical Oncology said they would prescribe marijuana if it were legal. Another 30 percent said they would need more information before prescribing it, and only 22 percent said they would not use prescribe it. 44 percent of the doctors admitted to actually recommending smoking marijuana to cancer patients to combat nausea associated with chemotherapy. Furthermore, studies show that the smoking of marijuana, even long term, is not harmful to health. So the question arises again, why won't the federal government legalize marijuana? Since 1937, the US government has been waging war against marijuana users. So much time has been spent on mere drug offenders while rapists and murderers walk the streets raping and murdering. According to the Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 70–plus million Americans have admitted to smoking marijuana at least once in their lifetime. It is a harmless source of recreation for millions of people around the world. It has also been proven that marijuana helps to relieve stress. Furthermore, there is absolutely no proof that smoking marijuana can make a person stupid or numb or affect a child's score on a test. Some believe that the legalization of marijuana would result in increased usage or act as a gateway to harder drugs. Marijuana is legal for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Other studies suggest that heavy use amongst users can cause changes in subjective mental status, brain functioning, and neuropsychological performance. Approximately 9% of those who experiment with cannabis will become addicted, and the treatment for addiction can be challenging, as it often leads to withdrawal symptoms. Consequently, most governments around the globe decided to enact legislation in the early to mid 20th century, to help control its abuse; however, recently, some countries in the Western World have begun to allow its use for medicinal and recreational purposes. • 8. The Effects Of Marijuana And Why It Should Be Prohibited The Negative Effects of Marijuana and Why It Should Be Prohibited Abdulkader Hamdoun University of Victoria Nowadays, legalizing marijuana is considered a sensitive issue among societies and governments. Marijuana has become one of the most commonly used drugs all over the world. Some people suggest that it should be permissible, while others believe that it is hazardous and it should be prohibited. It is true that marijuana has a few positive effects that contribute in the medical field, but we cannot deny the fact that the majority of its effects are negative. Therefore, marijuana should be prohibited because of its effects on adolescent, the effects on brain health, and its effects on the physical health. It is true that some studies suggest that cannabis, which is the plant from which marijuana is derived, has some positive impacts on certain illnesses. For instance, a laboratory study shows that THC, which is one of the compounds in the cannabis plant, may be useful for increasing appetite. Also, another study suggests that THC can contribute positively in treating glaucoma by reducing intraocular pressure. Furthermore, a study indicates that THC can be a pain relief to patients who suffer from multiple sclerosis. However, that does not mean that marijuana should be legal and all of these points are not sufficient for legalizing marijuana (Godandscience.org, 2015). The first reason why marijuana should be prohibited is that it affects adolescents' ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Argumentative Essay On Marijuana Marijuana a drug or elixir of good health. Marijuana is a very controversial topic today. The United States made it illegal in the mid–1920 and has been illegal ever since until recent times. It has been told that Medical marijuana has many health benefits and is also proven to help cure some deadly diseases. Using marijuana for medicinal purposes is not a recent discovery. The use of marijuana dates back nearly 5000 years. Western medicine embraced its medicinal properties in the mid–1800's. Physicians have published more than 100 papers in the western medical literature recommending its use for a variety of disorders (Urena). Under this law, the consumption of cannabis could lead to a jail term of six months or a fine of Rs10,000, Cultivation could lead to a term of 10 years. Though marijuana grows wild in India. Its possession or use is illegal. Marijuana is widely used in India, so why not legalize it. There are big differences between the two of them, but there is, without any doubt, one that has a lot more negative effects on the human body and the human brain than the other. Due to research we can compare them and conclude which one is worse. It is grown all over the world and supports a billion–dollar industry. Tobacco is dried and processed, then either placed into cigarettes and processed, or manufactured for chewing tobacco. The psychoactive ingredient is nicotine, a stimulant, but more than 4,000 other chemicals (2,000 of which are known to be poisonous) are present in cigarettes (Health). Tobacco is a nervous system stimulant that triggers complex biochemical and neurotransmitter disruptions. It elevates heart rate and blood pressure, constricts blood vessels, irritates lung tissue, and diminishes your ability to taste and smell (Health). Many people think smoking marijuana is just as harmful as smoking tobacco, but this is not true. Those who hold that marijuana is equivalent to tobacco are misinformed. Due to the efforts of various federal agencies to discourage the use of marijuana in the 1970's the government conducted several biased studies designed to return results that would equate marijuana smoking with tobacco smoking, or ... • 11. The Negative Effects Of Cannabis Cannabis has been studied by many scientists to find the medicinal value, and to decide whether the negative effects were too damaging to ignore. Many patients use cannabis to ease pain and to help relieve symptoms from illnesses. Cannabis, wheather used for medicinal purposes or not, is damaging to the brain, damages the lungs and is not only harmful to the user, but to others around the user. In recent studies, the findings suggest that long–term cannabis use is associated with brain morphing alterations in regions linked to memory and executive and affective processing. A decrease in hippocampal volume in regular cannabis smokers has been correlated with lifetime consumption and psychotic symptoms. When comparing gray matter volume between groups, they found that significant clusters showing a lower gray matter volume in regular cannabis users compared with occasional ones are located bilaterally in the temporal pole. Regular users exhibit a decrease in gray matter (GM) volume in the medial temporal cortex, temporal pole, parahippocampal gyrus, left insula, and orbitofrontal cortex (Battistella et al). It has been demonstrated that the main psychoactive component of cannabis (О”9–Tetrahydrocannabinol,THC) induces dose–dependent toxicity and structural changes in brain regions rich in cannabinoid CB1 receptors. Not only does cannabis affect adult brains, it affects underdeveloped brains as well. Specifically, significant gray matter atrophy can occur either with a heavy cannabis consumption independent of the age of first use or with recreational consumption that started during adolescence (before the age of 18). The duration of exposure to cannabis is indeed associated with localized volume reduction in regions rich in CB1 receptors, correlating with the amount of cannabis used. The progression of a long–term exposure to drugs toward the development of substance use disorders and addictive behaviors is often associated with deficits in decision making. • 12. Medical Marijuana Should Be Legal The term medical marijuana refers to the using the whole unprocessed marijuana plant or its basic extracts to treat a disease or symptom. But how can you really help? Medical marijuana may help stop the growth of blood vessels that feed cancerous tumors. And what I am currently researching is how medical marijuana can help treat illnesses. For medical marijuana we basically use THC and CBD both or cannabinoids that are in the marijuana plant. For THC it increases appetite and reduces nausea. THC me also decrease pain inflammation and muscle control problems. Also a cannabinoid known as CBD may be useful in reducing pain and inflammation controlling seizures. But overall marijuana isn 't just a fun thing to use it is something more special it 's something that people with medical issues can use to help treat their illness. Many countries have approved a mouth spray containing THC and CBD both us particles that are in the marijuana plant. Which is also used in medical marijuana research. The FDA still have not approved the medical marijuana plant which we use to help treat illnesses. Also the FDA uses THC and CBD which is in the marijuana plant. THC increases appetite and reduces nausea. The FDA–approved THC–based medications are used for these purposes. THC may also decrease pain, inflammation (swelling and redness), and muscle control problems. Unsafe environments created by the illegal distribution of the drug and the negative consequences of criminal labeling for possession of small amounts of marijuana" (Hajizadeh, 2016, p. 6). In addition, the legalization of cannabis can also reduce the stigma associated with the substance which would make it more socially acceptable. By rendering this substance more acceptable, it would reduce the negative mental health impacts associated with having a criminal record. For example, a person with a criminal record may not be accepted in society because of the stigma and labels associated with "criminals," which can lead to feelings of isolation a sense of not belonging. These feelings of social isolation can lead to depression and anxiety, which would be significantly reduced by the legalization of cannabis. Although the legalization would benefit society, a societal acceptance of cannabis use would also carry risks as well. A reduction or elimination of stigma associated with cannabis use may entice more people to try the substance. Although adults can use the substance in a low risk manner, there are more health concerns related to cannabis use in youth since their brains are not fully developed (CCSA, 2007, p. 17). To start out the survey I asked not to write your name just to indicate whether you were male or female. There were six males and four females. There are many reasons why most young people start to smoke marijuana because their friends or brothers and sisters use marijuana and pressure them to try it. In my survey five out of ten students said the reason for starting to smoke was because of their peers or older siblings. When interviewing Jada she said, "I only started because of my friends, they said I would like it so I tried it, and I did." Desiree answered that question a little different replying, "I watched my older brother always smoke weed and he looked like he was having fun. People use this social drug to ease or enhance interaction (Kornblum 115). The scientific term for this commonly used drug, marijuana, is Cannabis sativa (Hasday 24). Cannabis sativa is a dioecious hemp plant and can be produced in various forms. Usually, the dried leaves, flowers, and buds of the plant is used as marijuana. In addition, the flowers of the female plant and the buds are the most vigorous part. Furthermore, the plant produces the main psychoactive substance, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) (Wishnia 44). • 16. Should Marijuana Be Legalized? Essay SHOULD MARIJUANA BE LEGALIZED? Marijuana is a drug that has sparked much controversy over the past decade as to whether or not it should be legalized. People once thought of marijuana as a bad, mind–altering drug which changes a person's personality which can lead to crime and violence through selling and buying it. In the past, the majority of citizens believed that marijuana is a harmful drug that should be kept off the market and out of the hands of the public. However, a recent study conducted by Pew Research Center has concluded people's view may be changing. For the first time since 1969, the public's opinion has undergone a dramatic long–term shift. According to Pew's 2015 survey, 53% of the people polled favor the legal use of marijuana, while 44% are opposed. However, in 2006, just 32% supported marijuana legalization, while nearly twice as many 60% were opposed. The group that was responsible for this change was the 18–34 year olds with 68% of them in favor of its legalization. However, across all generations, with the exception of the age group of 70–87 year–olds, support for this drug's legalization has risen over the past decade (Pew Research Center, 2015). People believe that the legalization of marijuana will lead to a decrease in recreational use, drug addictions, and crime. What exactly is marijuana? Secondly, another form of narratives are moral narratives, which 'provide accounts of (and help to constitute) changes between the person, the illness and social identity, and which help to (re) establish the moral status of the individual or help to maintain social distance' (Bury 2011, p. 263). • 19. Effects Of The Criminalization Of Alcohol On America... Introduction This essay aims to show that if alcohol is legal, cannabis should be also. To do so I will compare the effects both substances have on the health of their users. I will then examine how much scientific evidence has been used when criminalizing marijuana and whether that evidence is still applicable today. Finally, I will analyze the effects of the criminalization of alcohol in America during the 1920s. I will use this case to show that the misguided prohibition of alcohol is comparable to the current marijuana laws. Though the situation was in a different social setting (and I will go over that as well), I will endeavor to show that, in the same was as it was in 1933, legalization not only provides a healthier lifestyle for users, but also breaks down the criminal organizations that profit from it. Existing Laws in the UK The current drug laws that are in effect in the UK are those set forth in the Drugs Misuse Act of 1971. The act separates illegal drugs into A, B and C classes; A being the most harmful drugs and therefore the most heavily penalised, and C being the least. Marijuana is currently qualified as a class C drug, after it was advised by Proffesor Sir Michael Rawlins, Chairman of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, to be reduced from class B in 2002. Marijuana in the late 1960s' had only one percent of tetrahydrocannabinol, compared to present day where Health Canada has discovered there is at least 10 percent of tetrahydrocannabinol and 30 percent in some cases. The tetrahydrocannabinol is a strong chemical and works immediately after one has inhaled it. Tetrahydrocannabinol mimics the neurotransmitter anandamide, which fills in the synapse between neurons and this disrupts the brain's regular functions. In a normally functioning brain, anandamide activates the cannabinoid receptors but when smoking marijuana tetrahydrocannabinol activates these receptors which are in the hippocampus, cerebellum and basal ganglia. This affects the short–term memory, coordination, and learning and problem–solving skills for an individual. Brain development is also affected by the use of cannabis. Kalant observed the rats exposed to cannabis as adolescents, had difficulty with memory and learning even after nine years of no exposure. Smoking, in the United States, is the number one cause of easily preventable deaths. Seeing these alarming deaths people decided they would make scary and startling advertisements to get the point across. These ads were taking people's breath away, they were seeing the effects of smoking in a light they hadn't previously thought about. The ad I chose to analyse has a man holding a cigarette between his middle and index finger while an above light source illuminates the shape of a gun behind the cigarette, and if you look close you can see that the man's index finger is holding the trigger of said gun to further the statement being made. This image uses the three modes of persuasion to caution viewers to not begin or continue smoking. The audience this artist is advertising towards is both smokers and non–smokers. Although this specific ad can be for any viewer, different groups of people will interpret the ad differently based on their smoking status. If you are a smoker the image is going to spark concern within you, possibly make you want to change your habits for the better. If you are not a smoker the image will most likely cause you to have an even lower tolerance for smoking or not feel affected by it as it has no influence on their personal life. When I first saw the image it made me have even more disdain for smoking. To exemplify this point logos was strongly used. The biggest and most obvious, point of this ad is that smoking is terrible for your health. This specific ad conveys this image by using an object of known destruction in place of a cigarette. Having something, in this case, the gun, that is known to be a thing of destruction puts the idea of smoking in a new light. From the common knowledge of smoking's risks and the gun in the silhouette of the cigarette, we can safely assume that the artist is telling us smoking is a death wish. Another rhetorical appeal that has an effect on the ad is theethos. I personally do not know this artist of the ad, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is also believed that 80% of cannabis entering the UK comes from Morocco, and the herbal form comes from Jamaica. Cannabis contains more than 400 chemicals. The main psycholoactive ingerdient id delta–9–tetahydrocannabinol, or 'THC'. [pic] http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fd/World–cannabis–laws.png This is a map of where cannabis is legal and illegal around the world. From the map it is obvious that in South America cannabis is mainly legal. THC Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), also known as delta–9–tetrahydrocannabinol is the main psychoactive substance found in the cannabis plant. Cannabis isn't just a single drug molecule, like alcohol or cocaine, but a mix of over 420 different chemical components. 61 of the called cannabinoids are unique to marijuana. THC is the chemical that triggers cannabis' main drug action and effects in the body and brain. THC is like a feel–good chemical bomb that explodes on contact, and then breaks up into at least 80 different by products (or metabolites) before it's eliminated from the body. The process starts as soon as THC enters the blood stream, and begins zeroing in on cannabinoid receptors in the brain and central nervous system Once it checks into the brain, THC takes its own time in checking out. Unlike many other drugs, which are excreted from the body within hours, THC metabolites stick around––stored ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Why Do People Use Cannabis? Introduction Cannabis is a controlled drug within New Zealand. However, Cannabis should be used for medical purposes, but it also should be studied more and tested. This is because chemicals that the cannabis oil carries can cure cancer. What is Cannabis Cannabis, also known as hemp, is a species of the Cannabinaceae family of plants. The resinous secretions of the plant are known as hashish, which can be smoked or eaten. The fiber of the cannabis plant is cultivated as industrial hemp with uses in textile manufacturing. • 34. Marijuana Has A Negative Effect On Your Health I believe that cannabis has a negative effect on your health. Now I'm fully aware that a portion of the world's population truly believe that cannabis is nothing more than a harmless drug that is used for nothing more than recreational use and will not have any long–term effects on your health, but I want you to ponder on the thought of my statement and why I might believe that cannabis has a negative effect on your health. First what is cannabis? according to drugs.com cannabis also known as "Cannabis sativa, is a species of the Cannabaceae family plants" and "contains the chemical compound THC (delta–9 tetrahydrocannabinol), which is believed to be responsible for most of the characteristics psychoactive effects of cannabis." Furthermore, what is health? according to Merriam–Webster health is "the condition of being well or free from disease". Now if you just read the two definitions of cannabis and health you can see why someone would want to further research this issue just based on the wording alone, in the definition cannabis is says the plant can cause psychoactive effects and in the definition of health it states free from disease but if one is using cannabis that can cause these effects it would be impossible to truly be free from disease which lies the major problem and gets to the root of my thought process and why I believe that cannabis has a negative effect on your health. To elaborate more on the factors that contributed to me believing that cannabis has a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Drinking And Driving Case Study 1.Was This Presentation Valuable? This presentation on the risks of driving while under the influence of cannabis was extremely informative while also being engaging and interesting at the same time. In my opinion, the presentation was particularly valuable because drugs have become a very prominent subject among my age group, and not everyone is knowledgeable of all the risks associated with smoking. In health, we learn about the effects of drugs and the risks of drinking alcohol and driving, however, we don't really cover the topic of smoking and driving, which leads people to think there is nothing at risk. This presentation informs us of the potentially deadly risks of driving while under the influence of cannabis that many people are unaware of. As well, the information provided not only informs people who do/might smoke in the future of what they may be putting at risk, but it also informs people of the risk who then could prevent a friend of potentially making the poor decision of smoking and driving. 2.Two Interesting Things From The Presentation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One interesting thing is that almost 50% of youth indicated no concerns about smoking and driving. I found this puzzling because as teens, our school, parents, and the media constantly tell us about the dangers of drugs and how they impair our thinking. I found it interesting to know that although most teens know the risks of smoking, they don't have concerns for increasing those risks by driving, which would put many more people at risk of an accident. Another thing I found interesting is that almost 1 in 5 youths in vehicle accidents tested positive for cannabis. This shows how prominent the issue is in our society, especially in youth, and proves that more promotion of the risks should be done, such as this type of presentation, in order to control the ... • 36. Smoking Is Bad For The Body Did you know that three out of four teens in high school admit to doing or being addicted to drugs? A majority of the teenagers today will more than likely face short or long–term health issues from the usage of "drugs," preferably marijuana. What kind of short and long–term health issues you may ask? Well short–term health issues would include drowsiness/relaxation; slowed reaction time; problems with balance and coordination; increased heart rate and appetite; problems with learning and memory; hallucinations; anxiety and panic attacks! On the other hand we have long–term health issues which include mental health problems, chronic cough, frequent respiratory infections. Smoking weed is a problem among teenagers today that tend to take on health issues in the body such as danger to the adolescent brain, symptoms of chronic bronchitis, lung irritation and reproduction effects. One reason smoking weed is bad for the body is because it causes damage to the adolescent brain. "The brain is the command center of you body. It weighs about three pounds and has different centers or systems that process different kinds of information. THC in marijuana affects the way that sensory information is processed. THC is up to no good in the brain. THC finds brain cells, or neurons, with specific kinds of receptors called cannabinoid receptors. Then, it binds to those receptors"(Elaine Gottlleb, 2016). Certain parts of the brain have high concentrations of cannabinoid receptors. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Persuasive Essay On Anti Smoking Anti–smoking campaigns have been around since the 1960s because the dangers of smoking became more relevant and was brought to the public. This ultimately created controversy among all Americans. Actions brought forth by the government were very beneficial, but has not come close to completely ending smoking. The visual image seen on the first page of this document conveys the argument that smoking cigarettes, or any type of tobacco, will have a declining effect on one's future by limiting their life expectancy. Although there is no clear location of where and when the image was produced, one might believe that it was found in a magazine. The purpose of this visual is that smoking will eventually kill a consistent consumer. The image is made by an anti–smoking advertisement who used a very dramatic format which will be able to impact people on a more emotional level. The development of the image is to scare and intimidate not only people who are starting to smoke but also existing smokers. Also, nonsmokers want the smokers they know to quit because they care about their well–being. This advertisement was also created for the clear purpose that the leaders of the community don't want these products, that have been proven to be detrimental to citizens' health, to be used. The argument for the visual is upheld because it is arguing that smoking cigarettes will cause the shortening of the life of consumers. The image is a clock with a bundle of cigarettes tied together and then connected by a long wick, this is portrayed in a way that represent a stick of dynamite attached to a timer with a lighter near the wick that will light it. The image is establishing these values because dynamite is capable of destroying and harming its surroundings. Underneath the visual the purpose of the image is also further supported through text. It says, "Every Breath You Take Will Eventually Destroy Your Future." This illustrates that through every puff of a cigarette it increases your chances of getting diseases or cancer, hence destroying your future. Through the image it portrays that every time you light up a cigarette it takes time off your life clock. The image is being viewed from the point of view of a smoker and it ... • 41. Smoking Cannabis Virtually Doubles the Risk of Developing... The media are often guilty of presenting studies in a way that leads to misinterpretation by the public. A recent BBC news article reads "Cannabis use 'raises psychosis risk' – Study" and the Daily Mail warns "Cannabis use 'doubles risk of psychosis for teenagers". Such headlines give the impression that there has been a clear causal relationship found between smoking cannabis and the development of mental illnesses (News, 2011; Hope, 2011). Kuepper et al. (2011), the study referred to above, reported that cannabis use is a risk factor for the development of incident psychotic symptoms (short–lasting individual symptoms). They found that cannabis users were almost twice as likely to report incident psychotic symptoms (adjusted odds ratio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the lack of experimental control, large participant samples are required in order to look for a connection between cannabis use and psychosis. This further reduces researchers' ability do large–scale studies looking directly at the effects of cannabis use. It is not economically feasible to diagnose an follow a large cohort of participants using objective clinical measures. This means that the validity of the research is stretched further, as cost effective means of measuring psychoticism and cannabis do not use direct measures. Psychoticism is generally inferred by way of self–reports from individuals on whether they have experienced psychotic symptoms. This might introduce confounds, and further reduces the likelihood that self–reports of incidence psychotic symptoms are truly indicative of cannabis being a causal risk in developing a mental illness. For example, participants may become aware of the purpose of the study and worry about drug–use having an effect, thus start to actively look for and remember such incidences, more so than non–users. Due to ethical, funding and time constraints, it is incredibly difficult for researchers to get a clear picture of the effect cannabis use has on the development of mental illnesses such as schizophrenia. • 42. The Negative Effects Of Marijuana Some people drink alcohol simply for the reason they like the taste, and others might use marijuana as long as it calms their anxiety. Although these substances show some positive effects, what people don't take into consideration is the fact that both can weaken your mind and your body in certain ways. The difference between the negative effects of marijuana and the negative effects of alcohol on your body are your ability to drive, your physical health, and your memory. The biggest part about marijuana people don't realize, is it does in fact decline some of your motor skills' ability to work at full capacity in your brain. A review of scientific evidence taken from NORML, the National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws a non–profit organization based in Washington, DC, shows, "Althoughcannabis has been shown to mildly impair psychomotor skills, this impairment does not appear too severe or long lasting." So even though smoking weed does affect you in some ways, your ability to drive is not fully impaired and only flawed for a short amount of time. Using marijuana is not only dangerous for your body's health, but for your overall safety as well. Studies have shown from NORML New Zealand, stating, "Those involved in vehicle crashes with THC in their blood, particularly higher levels, are three to seven times more likely to be responsible for the incident than drivers who had not used drugs or alcohol. However, the role played by marijuana in crashes is often unclear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Sheldon Norberg's Confessions Of A Dope Dealer How did society impact Sheldon? Let me tell you about a man named Sheldon, he fought against society's views on drugs his whole life until it was too late and he realized it was pointless. In the autobiography 'Confessions of a Dope Dealer' author, Sheldon Norberg introduces readers in the beginning of the story to himself as a 14 year old who was against drugs. However, his views quickly change as the story progresses, and he experiences life through the assistance of mind–expanding substances. Sheldon was a rebel of sorts; he spent most of his life fighting society's views on drugs by using, to growing, to selling. Sheldon later on came to realize he had wasted his time; as he witnessed his brother lose his job from being, "Tooo wasted,"(Norberg,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first he realizes small things such as in saying, "Weed production is both an art and a science," (Norberg, 200), in this he realizes that society adores art and science, yet society as a whole is strongly opposed to drugs. He soon comes to realize all his wasted time and in addition, the downfalls of drugs following his brother losing his job. He says, "I spent a long time looking at the mural the first time I took acid," (Norberg, 236). At this place in his life he realizes all his wasted time reflecting back on the time wasted on drugs. Than he hears about his brother being fired from his job for being, "Tooo wasted," (Norberg, 279). This shows Sheldon bad drugs really are, and what they can do to a person, his brother went from having a decent job to having nothing. Later on towards the end of the book the one thing that finally pushes him to get out of the drug business is when he realizes how risky the business is as in when he says, " "Hey," Horn started in, "Our weeds been ripped off." "(Norberg, 314). By this point Sheldon has already come to realize the downfalls and now the risks of the business and he came to the realization that the risk wasn't worth the ...
