Response to each person 200 words each 1) Preparing for disasters is something many only think about during "that season"; hurricane season, winter blizzards, tornadoes , fire, flooding etc. however, disasters can happen at any time, so continued and sustained preparedness is essential. For the most part I knew my level of preparedness as I've lived in many areas of the world where "that season" happened on a regular basis. Essential documents stored in plastic bins, easily accessible to place in to a car in the event of needed evacuation or sheltering in place, food, water, medical documents as well; only once I was not prepared but many things were happening in my life at that time which caught me off guard. I worked a disaster relief effort with the American Red Cross in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew in southern Florida and learned many things due to that experience and my time in the military has prepared me for many other man-made disasters. We have recently moved to the southwest and I now own a home again, so we are not quite as prepared as we were previously as a homeowner. The tools and supplies needed to secure my home at this time are lacking so this is a step in preparation that must be accomplished, otherwise, based on the checklist, I am still prepared for nearly any disaster that may strike, or at least I would hope to be! From the perspective of a community health nurse; education is the key to disseminating information to community members. From participating in and education regarding local flu outbreaks, encouraging vaccinations for those at risk or simple education regarding hand hygiene and the correct way of covering your cough, along with health and wellness to maintain the highest levels of immunity for something as simple yet as deadly as the flu can be, is important. Man made, natural or environmentally fueled disasters are difficult to disseminate information except through ongoing education or community preparedness sponsored events or work shops. Ongoing drills within the school systems or community centers will assist in preparedness for disaster specific to the geographical area. Instructions; written, verbal or expressed for personal preparedness, the how and why, and where to find needed supplies would all begin and continue through education. Reporting of potential outbreaks or disasters through proper channels would also provide the community with added resources. In the event of a disaster, nurses would need to assist in identifying who is at risk and what to do regarding those individuals, their friends and families, as would the nurse. Scenario For Final Paper: The Psychology of Disaster Preparedness In September 2003 a Category Two hurricane made landfall in a town that was ill prepared for such a natural disaster. The hurricane claimed over 100 lives and caused approximately $1.4 billion in damages. This large American city had not experienced a natural disaster of this proportion for more than 100 years. Therefore, none of the current citizens had any personal knowledge of exactly what preparations might be in order to survive such an event. In the wake of the storm prosocial (helping) behaviors to aid hurricane victims were at an all-time high. Unfortunately, many lives were lost as a direct result of the lack of pre-disaster preparedness on the part of the citizens residing in the affected city. Local and federal emergency management agencies have researched extensively what went wrong with their disaster response plans. Findings show that they were adequately prepared to respond to a disaster once it happened but that they were seriously lacking in preparing citizens to take seriously the possibility that disaster could strike at any time. In fact, in the days leading up to the approaching storm, many warnings were issued to the public to take precautions up to and including evacuation. However, public perception appeared to be that the media and local leaders were exaggerating the level of imminent danger. A recent national survey shows that even in light of this disaster and the widespread publicity it received, Americans are no more prepared for this type of catastrophe than they were in 2003 (FEMA, 2006). These results are worrisome to federal and local authorities, and to disaster preparedness teams who attempt to warn the public of impending danger. The frustration lies in the fact that tactical plans for responding are well implemented, practiced, and executed successfully when disaster strikes. However, persuading the public to take seriously their personal responsibility has been a massive failure. Officials now realize that they need the advice of an applied social psychology expert to help them implement social marketing to raise public awareness of the need for disaster preparedness. FEMA has retained you, an applied social psychology expert, to provide a scholarly analysis of the scientific, peer-reviewed literature on the factors related to attitude and behavior change such as risk perception, persuasion theories, persuasion techniques, motivation, and self-efficacy. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) expanded and improved health insurance coverage in two primary ways. First, the number of individuals receiving insurance coverage grown by increasing access to coverage through Medicaid expansion and providing subsidies to purchase private insurance on the health care exchanges. Second, the ACA upgraded the quality and scope of coverage by improving benefit design, including implementing the essential health benefits (Willison & Singer, 2017). People who did not have coverage through their employer or Medicaid were required to purchase insurance through the Marketplace. The Marketplace was created as a one-stop-shop for people to view multiple plans and purchase insurance. Just because you have access to health care insurance does not mean you are going to receive quality health care (Teitelbaum, 2018). Both parties have asked that the ACA be repealed or replaced for multiple reasons. Every Republican presidential candidate for 2016 has called for the repeal of the ACA. Some, but not all, Republican candidates have proposed health policies that they would like to put in place after repeal, but there is no broad agreement on a replacement for the ACA (Buettgens & Blumberg, 2016). The federal government would spend $90.9 billion less on health care for the nonelderly in 2021 if the ACA were repealed (Buettgens & Blumberg, 2016). State governments as a whole would spend $5.2 billion more on health care for the nonelderly in 2021 if the ACA were repealed (Buettgens & Blumberg, 2016). Healthcare is a priority to many Americans for obvious reasons; it was more costly for those with preexisting conditions before the ACA to obtain Medical Insurance. With the ACA the income guidelines for Medicaid where changed so additional people qualified that didn’t prior. In elementary school I never experienced students with disabilities in my classrooms, growing up. But as the years went on and legislation changed students with disabilities started trickling into general education classrooms. With identifying markers that extend beyond the individual, it can be represented in a fabric of shared themes and feelings. Whether displayed in forms of dress, symbols, verbal phrases or typical behaviors, its permeance can be silent in its mode of action, yet quite visible to internal and external stakeholders (Daft, 2018). Serving two fundamental and critical functions, the culture of an organization can be a catalyst in uniting members in how they relate to one another within the organization and how the members follow the same process in relation to the outside environment (Daft, 2018). However, although it is often associated with ethical decision making (Kara, Rojas-Mendez & Turan), the element of inequality can create fear and discourse if an unrealistic and bias culture themes are dictated, thus resulting in disagreement or conflict with management. Therefore, the perception of stakeholders or groups of interest regarding the cultural practices of the organization may not be entirely correct (Gonzalez-Rodriguez, Diaz-Fernández & Biagio, 2019). Directly related to the perception of the value system of the organization and its management, the acceptable cultural differences that shape the internal behavior of members can have an impact in external relationships (Gonzalez-Rodriguez, Diaz-Fernández & Biagio, 2019). Program code examples (known also as worked examples) play a crucial role in learning how to program. Instructors use examples extensively to demonstrate the semantics of the programming language being taught and to highlight the fundamental coding patterns. Programming textbooks allocate considerable space to present and explain code examples. To make the process of studying code examples more interactive, CS education researchers developed a range of tools to engage students in the study of code examples. These tools include codecasts (codemotion,codecast,elicasts), interactive example explorers (WebEx, PCEX), and tutoring systems (DeepTutor). An important component in all types of worked examples is code explanations associated with specific code lines or code chunks of an example. The explanations connect examples with general programming knowledge explaining the role and function of code fragments or their behavior. In textbooks, these explanations are usually presented as comments in the code or as explanations on the margins. The example explorer tools allow students to examine these explanations interactively. Tutoring systems, which engage students in explaining the code, use these model explanations to check student responses and provide scaffolding. In all these cases, to make a worked example re-usable beyond its presentation in a lecture, the explanations have to be authored by instructors or domain experts i.e., produced and integrated into a specific system. As the experience of the last 10 years demonstrated, these explanations are hard to obtain. Those already collected are usually “locked” in a specific example-focused system and can’t be reused. The purpose of this working group is to support broader re-used of worked examples augmented with explanations. Our current plan is to develop а standard approach to represent explained examples. This approach will enable an example created for any of the existing systems to be explored in a standard format and imported into any other example-focused system. We plan to follow a successful experience of the PEML working group focused on re-using programming exercises.
