Pollution Problems Caused By Pollution
Introduction
Pollution is serious problem that influence our normal day lives, especially in the industrial city such
as London in the middle of 18th century. Nowadays, pollution problem is getting worse and worse
all around the world and people's lives are effected from it. For example, the Air pollution problem
in Beijing or the water pollution problem in East China Sea. Pollution is defined as" the action of
polluting especially by environmental contamination with man–made waste." in merriam–
webster.com. In other words, it is a phenomenon that man–made material or industrial wastes make
a damage to our environment.
The history of pollution goes back to the Middle Age when the disease like cholera or "Black Death"
broke out all over the world and a lot of people were killed because of this. After that by 1800,
people finally realized that all of the tragedy were caused by the human and animal waste that they
put in the environment. In other words, pollutants. However, people didn't take this serious. In the
middle of 18th century, along with the industrial revolution and the invention of the steam engine,
the new type of pollution which has been known as Air pollution came out. Finally, people were
aware of the danger of pollution, they created the laws that normally called the Clean Water Act and
the Clean Air Act in the 19th century. According to the author, "These laws have significantly
reduced the amount of pollution released into the environment.". Nonpoint Source

Pollution In Oceans
Right now there is way too much pollution in the oceans. Fish population is going down, coral reefs
are dying and the oceans are becoming unswimmable. Too much trash is being dumped into the
oceans. 8 million pounds of trash is dumped into the ocean each year. Pollution in the oceans also
affects the fish population. Since the 1960's the fish population has decreased by 75% because of
pollution.Sea creatures are mistaking the trash for food and eating plastic There are many sea
creatures that are endangered. Like blue whales, sea turtles, sea lions and many more. There are also
a number of coral reefs dying that our a big role in our ocenas. To save these endangered animals we
need to cut down on the number of trash dumped into the

Pollution Effect On Plant Pollution
While I went through this project I noticed that I truly do not have a green thumb, the only plants
that really changed much were the plants that I killed. My motor oil plants rapidly died, shrinking
quickly and drying up. I actually still only have two of the control group plants. My hypothesis was
supported, the plants that I administered motor oil to died rapidly while the other plants just kind of
continued life. I know that most oil spills usually occur in the ocean or coastal waters, but this
project really made me understand how tragic just a little bit of oil could be on vegetation. The
United States distributes, consumes, and even produces huge quantities of oil every single year.
Over 10 million gallons of oil is spilled yearly. I can't honestly think of many ways to prevent such
things from happening but one thing I do know is that we should start thinking of better ways to
transport oil to reduce oil spills on land.
This semester I studied the effect certain types of pollution has on plant growth. My initial
hypothesis was that the pollutant would affect the plant growth excessively, and might even kill the
plants in the experimental group. The results of this project were almost exactly what I predicted
them to be, and ultimately my hypothesis was supported. Soil pollution is so common these days,
and it mainly happens due to elements that are man–made. Our waste, is so much different from
things that nature itself produces. Rotten fruits and vegetables, dead animals or dead plants make the
soil more fertile and unbelievably are actually really good types of "food" for soil. Our waste on the
other hand is full of so many harsh chemicals that are obviously not originally found in nature and
this is what leads to soil pollution. There are so many different things that factor into soil pollution.
Things such as coal or iron mines depend solely on extracting minerals from the Earth and the by
products that are used are contaminated and usually not disposed of properly. Industrial waste stays
in the soil for who knows how long. One thing that a lot of people probably never think about
(including myself) is the types of personal waste we contaminate the soil with. Our bodies are filled

The Importance Of Pollution
Pollution is everywhere. We can hear it every day at school, college and get information about it
from the newspaper. It occurs when the pollutants pollute the environment and it brings about the
changes that affect our lifestyles. Pollution interrupts the balance of the ecosystem in the
environment. This is because our lives have reached its peak by changing with modernization and
development and it gives huge rise in global warming and human illness. (Pollution) It is the high
time for us to take the action to save the Mother Earth from major environmental issues. We cannot
ignore it because its effects will harm human existence in the future. (10)
Engineering developments produce good results in resource depletion and environmental
destruction. Modern technologies are used in the engineering and manufacturing industry and they
bring a lot of major impact in our daily life every year. (10)
Engineering and manufacturing industry increase the use of materials like plastic. They use in the
production of huge amounts of products that associated with different industries such as car
production units and plastic industries that cause a lot of effects and they are considered to be non–
environment friendly. (10)
Pollution has many types such air, water, soil and light. Every form of pollution has two kinds of
occurrence that are the point and the non–point sources. The point sources are easy to identify,
monitor and control while the non–point sources are hard to control.

Air Pollution
Air pollution has affected millions of people in some way. There are cities where air pollution is not
a problem but there are cities where air pollution is a big problem. South Bronx in the 2000s faces
critical high levels of air pollution. Children were the ones who suffer the most. Every day many
kids were hospitalized because of asthma. One of the main causes of air pollution in South Bronx
were thousands of trucks traffic on the highways. The carbon dioxide that the truck release into the
air cause high air pollution levels. Air pollution in the South Bronx last decade was life–threatening
for children with asthma due to truck traffic. To begin, the main cause of air pollution in South
Bronx was truck traffic. thousand of trucks passed through South Bronx high way every day. "The
South Bronx is a major traffic hub. At Hunts Point Market alone, some 12,000 trucks roll in and out
daily". (Rupar) The evidence shows that South Bronx it's very busy with truck traffic. Thousands of
trucks passed through only through Huts points. This a lot of trucks just for hunts points alone. and
there is more on the other parts of South Bronx. Also when there are events happening in South
Bronx there is more traffic than it's on a normal day. This is bad because when is a normal day the
levels of air pollution are high, and when there is more traffic the air pollution is twice worse.
"During the baseball months, the South Bronx neighborhood is a congested traffic nightmare, a hot

Soil Pollution
Presently, most cars run on gasoline and thus gas stations are vital to our everyday life. In urban
cities, gas stations are found in just about every other corner. It has already been documented that
burning gasoline produces toxic fumes that contributes to air pollution, global warming, and many
health concerns. Soil surrounding a gas station can also be contaminated with gasoline and generate
soil pollution. In comparison with air, soil is more complex in composition and function. It functions
as a sink for pollutants, as a filter which delays the passage of chemicals to groundwater, and as a
bioreactor for organic life. Just as gas is a source of fuel for cars, soil is an essential component of
the earth's ecosystem. It serves as a home to many microbes and provides the necessary nutrients to
plants that dwell in it. The pondus hyrdogenii (pH) indicates a solution's acidity and alkalinity. A pH
value of 7 is considered neutral. A solution with a pH between 0 to 7 is acid and one between 7 to 14
is alkaline. Most biological organisms including plants have a very narrow range of pH values in
which environmental substrates can survive. Plants prefer acidic substances. This leads to the
following questions: Are gas stations in El Paso, Texas a contributing factor to soil contamination?
Do Gas Stations Cause Soil Contamination?
Soil around the world is a habitat for numerous plants and animals. However, every day, certain

Did you know that out beautiful ocean is being polluted by 12.7 million tonnes of rubbish each
year? Our oceans are being polluted by us, which is unnecessary as we need the water clean because
97% of our water supply is from there. If we continue to keep mistreating it, we will be left with
only 3% of water to use in everyday situations like showering and watering the garden. It isn't
enough especially with the growth in population. Did you know that 30% of all CO2 commissions is
absorbed by the ocean? So, all this proves that our ocean is essential for living. Thankfully, we have
two amazing heros –Andrew Turton and Pete Ceginsle– have invented a amazing invention called
the Seabin.
What is the Seabin?
We are so incredibly lucky Andrew and Peter have found a solution to fix what we have called–
water pollution. They invented the 'Seabin' which is a cylinder that floated upright. It has a water
pump in it that sucks up all the floating debris and oil on the surface. The Seabin has been very
successful as it collectes approximately 1.5 kilograms of rubbish everyday. $50,000 was raised
towards the Seabin protect because each bin costs around $3,800 to make. And to make it even more
Eco–friendly, each bins has been created from 75–100% recyclable materials. All the rubbish they
catch by using the Seabin, they us that to create more and more Seabins.
Problems with water pollution
They are so many problems for us and our marine life due to careless people littering each day. Did
you know shat on average, each person throws away around 2.7 kilogram of rubbish everyday. Do
you every wonder how much of that ends up in the ocean, killing and hurting our innocent animals?
Think of every piece of plastic you leave in the environment. It will soon end up in the environment
and be there for another 400 years. Did you know, that 37 million gallons of oil are spilled into out
oceans, worldwide each year? The oil then sits on the water, preventing animals to get sunlight. This
causes a vitamin D difisancy, which could potentially cause them to die out. Oil spills have have
killed and harmed approximately 82,000 birds over 102 species. Other animals that are hurt from oil
spills are animals with blow holes and feathers.

Fresh Water Pollution
WILLIAM WRIGHT
GRANTHAM UNIVERSITY
In this paper I will discuss one of the world's problems which is the pollution of the Fresh Water
Systems in the United States. I will show how the pollution of fresh water affects land, air and plant
life to include humanity. When water is polluted it can affect all living things. Some of the human
activities that can be affected is the drinking water, without fresh drinking water humans would not
be able to survive. One of the pleasures that humans enjoy is swimming although humans can swim
in the oceans some enjoy lakes and if the lakes are polluted then that activity would not be able to be
performed. Also without fresh water much there would be lost of sea life and those who rely on
fishing as a way of life would be out of resources to provide for their families. Water pollution is a
global problem it is reported that more than 1,030327 deaths occur from dirty water diseases. Dirty
water is considered to be one of human's greatest dangers. Dirty water contains organisms which are
called pathogens; these pathogens contain bacteria, viruses and parasitic organisms. What these
organisms do is infect humans which cause illness. Some of the illness that can be caused by
polluted water is Typhoid which is an infectious bacterial; this causes fever with an outbreak of red
spots on the chest and abdomen and severe gastral irritation. Another illness is Cholera which is
infectious and is a fatal

The world is dying. The world is being overrun with human pollution. The most polluted parts are
the parts nobody notices until they see trash floating upon waves and washing onto shores. The

why people need to help prevent trash from getting into the oceans. Even if helping prevent trash

Another reason people should help get rid of the trash around and in the ocean is because it can
annihilate environments and climates. The Author states that the ocean is the main buffer against
climate change,"In fact, about 25 percent of the greenhouse gases that we emit actually gets
absorbed by the oceans, as does over 90 per cent of the extra heat produced by human–induced
climate change, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reports"(Baher). This shows that
trash in the oceans are not only affecting wildlife but affecting the world also. Moreover, the trash is
also affecting the environment. According to Yakupitiyage, "Because of ocean currents, this trash
accumulates in what is known as "ocean garbage patches," located in virtually every ocean in the
world....This has contributed to the massive piles of trash that have washed upon the shores of the
isolated and once pristine Henderson Island in the South Pacific. A recent study found that the
UNESCO world heritage site is covered with over 38 million pieces of trash, making it the most
densely polluted place in the world." As Yakupitiyage says, due to all of the trash, the oceans are
making garbage patches that wash up on shores, which causes environmental damage.
Consequently, trash in the oceans can cause catastrophic damage to the climate and the environment.
One problem of helping contain the trash, is the cost of using materials that decompose quicker. One

Pesticide Pollution
Fertilizer and pesticide usage has increased dramatically worldwide, especially in China. Twenty
years of uncontrolled economic development have created serious, chronic air and water pollution.
In order to support China's growing population, the country has drastically increased its usage of
fertilizers and pesticides in the agricultural sector. China consumes around a third of global
fertilizers, with rapid growth in use in recent years, driven largely by higher fruit and vegetable
production. Excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides threatens both public health and
agricultural productivity. Many farmers choose to use chemicals to keep weeds and pests from
destroying their crops while adding more nutrients to the soil. Yet such benefits do not come without
environmental costs––namely the pesticide pollution of China's streams, rivers, lakes, and even
coastal areas, as these toxic chemicals runoff into nearby waterways, contaminating the food,
drinking water causing massive health problems.
While fertilizers and pesticides, as stated above, provide economic benefits for the farmers in terms
of increasing yields; but also provide adverse impacts. These impacts on the environment are called
"negative externalities." According to researchers, "not many measures are being taken in order to
enforce safe, organic, and healthy fertilization. If a good has a negative externality, then the cost to
society is greater than the cost consumer is paying for it." Since

Earth Pollution
I'm going to start off my essay by talking about "earth pollution". There are seven different types of
earth pollution. Starting of with water pollution and air pollution, I think these would be the most
common and prevalent forms of earth pollution. Water and air are both extremely important to the
enviroment. The rest is, soil pollution, thermal pollution, radioactive pollution, noise pollution and
light pollution. There is also air pollution that works in a green house infect. Which can warm up the
earth. The green house affect can be caused by sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide. Soil pollution is
caused by, " Human made chemicals or other alternation in the natural soil environment". It is
meanly caused by agricultural chemicals, industrial stuff and people who do not take good care of
their trash. An example of this is (littering). Thermal pollution is a process that changes water
quality for the worse by the water tempter. The main way that thermal pollution is active, is by big
"Power Plants" using water as a coolant. Radioactive pollution is when are there radioactive
particles in the air, and this is caused by human actions. It is accidental or on tentonal . Noise
pollution is basically where there is a lot of noise that people just do not want. It can even damage
stuff like your hearing not being able to sleep as well and it can cause high stress levels, and it has
more effects than that. When I first saw noise pollution as one of the seven different types of earth
pollution I thought it was kind of weird, but now that I looked in to it, it makes more sence. For the
last one of the seven types of earth pollution (which is Light pollution) I decided to take a closer
look at it then the others. So, I watched a documentary about light pollution. Light pollution is when
a lot of lights, mainly coming from big cities, this is bad because it makes it harder to see the stars.
What makes so you can't see the stars is light that shines up on dust particles. In the past people lite
things up with torches or lamps but now all over the world people are lighting things up with
electrice lights. Astronomers have noticed that when they want to get a good look at the night sky
they have to go farther away from big

Air Pollution in China "Anyone 's life truly lived consists of work, sunshine, exercise, soap, plenty
of fresh air, and a happy contented spirit," –Lillie Langtry(BrainyQuote); air is important part of life
without we cannot live, yet the people in China breath in pollution air which is slowing killing their
population. Most of us take the air we breathe for granted and never stop to think that we are slowly
causing the very thing we need to live to become a poison that will enter our lungs. But how does air
get polluted one might ask? The main cause of air pollution emission is from the burning of fossil
fuels and the burning of these fuels cause the air to become harmful to people and the environment
(Facts and Details). So in this essay I will bring up how bad China air is, how it got to be so bad,
why it is important for you to know and solutions to the problem. First thing I want to talk about is
just how bad the air in China is. According to Abc.net Linfen, China is the number one most
polluted place on earth causing high levels of bronchitis, pneumonia, lung cancer, and lead
poisoning in children alone. Which brings me to death rate every year in China, according to the
Studies by the world bank, WHO, and the Chinese academy of Environment planning, they found
around 350,000 and 500,000 people die prematurely because of the air (telegraph ).

Sea Water Pollution
I. Title
Water pollution has many different meanings, in most cases it is when one or more material builds
up in the water causing a problem for people and/ or animals. Water pollution is one of the world's
largest problems that we are facing today. Everyone in this world is affect by the earth's water. Some
are affected differently than others but we are still affected in one way or another. Water pollution
doesn't only threaten humans; it threatens plants and animals as well as sea creatures. Hazardous
dumping of toxins and other dangerous materials is one of the most serious problems of sea
pollution. Pollution of the sea can kill human beings as well as the animals. This paper will analyze
the cause / detection of sea pollution, what methods are used in measuring sea pollution, the areas
that are most affected, some of the most recent and current water pollution activities, and the ways
that water pollution can possibly be eliminated.
II. Background Information
There are many different types of water pollution. These types of pollutants in the rivers and lakes
will kill the fishes and other sea animals. Some types of pollution are Runoffs, Oil pollution,
Sewage, and Organic. Sea pollution is not bad for everyone; the water companies make more money
when there is more pollution in the water. On the other end many corporations depend on unpolluted
water for their fishing industries. Sea water pollution causes many different problems in the world.

Cancer– it is one of those words that people whisper in hush tones behind closed doors. It's the type
of word that brings nothing but heartbreak. The second the words "you have cancer" are said, the
clock starts ticking away at the time you have left louder than an airhorn. Cancer uncovers the
fighters that have been hidden away. It is one of the worst battles to fight, because ultimately it is
already a battle lost. In 2012, 14.1 million people were diagnosed with cancer. In that same year 8.2
million people died from it. There is predicted to be 23.6 million people diagnosed with cancer each
year by 2030. (CancerResearchUK) However, some countries suffer more than others. China alone
is responsible for 22% of new cancer cases and almost 27% of global cancer deaths
(CancerStatisticsinChina). Why is cancer such an issue here? Outside of genetics, this is largely due
to the country's polluted environments, specifically the air pollution and the water pollution. China
began seeing an increase in cancer a few decades ago when their industrial movement began.
Pollution from the factories seem to be the leading cause of cancer in the Chinese population. This is
a major socioeconomic issue because in order to clean the environment, factories would be forced to
close or relocate. Initially, the Chinese government denied that cancer was a byproduct of pollution.
Although recently they were forced to acknowledge its effect and has since been making an effort to
clean their

Most people never stop to think about the sanitation of the air around them. The only places that
people ruminate over air quality are largely populated states and cities. One of these places is
California. Ominous clouds of smog and polluted air constantly hover over the citizens. These
people don't ever look up and worry, because smog is a usual appearance. This issue destroys not
only the earth and its atmosphere, but the very center of our lives: our bodies' health. Particulate
pollutants are like the retroviruses of the world: well–rounded and dangerous. Air pollution is the
largest ecological issue of our time because the contaminated air lingers all over the world
constantly being augmented to, and further threatening the world and those who lives in it. As a state
that is car–centric, California has been harassed by air pollution for decades. Even one of
California's most famous cities, Los Angeles, is known for the cloud of smog. National Geographic
even comments on the daily emissions from factories and automobiles in the city saying, "In the past
150 years, such activities have pumped enough carbon dioxide into the atmosphere to raise its levels
higher than they have been for hundreds of thousands of years." ("Air Pollution Facts, Air Pollution
Effects, Air Pollution Solutions, Air Pollution Causes – National Geographic.") California's air
pollution levels are at an all time high and needs to be redressed. Ozone is one of the most

Las Vegas, Nevada and the surrounding Clark County ranks in the 90–100th percentile for the
dirtiest/worst counties in the U.S. in terms of pollution from Carbon Monoxide emissions, Nitrogen
Oxide emissions, PM–2.5 emissions, PM–10 emissions, and Sulfur Dioxide emissions (Scorecard,
2011b). These same pollutants are known to cause cytotoxic and functional damages to human
airways through oxidative stress and inflammation; which are linked to respiratory diseases in
children (Ferrante, Antona, Malizia, Montalbano, & La Grutta, 2016). Currently, Clark County is
home to 29,146 children with asthma and 130,553 adults with asthma; that's 7.55% of the
population of 2,114,801 (American Lung Association, 2017). There seems to be a correlation
between the high levels of pollution in Clark County and the high numbers of people with asthma
that is impacting the community's quality of life in terms of health and the economy, and it is having
an adverse effect on the environment as well. Body: Clark County scores badly in the air quality

it. Another reason people need to protect the oceans is because the oceans and organisms inhabiting
it aren't capable of taking care of it. The author points out that, "Pacific Regional Environment

Pollution Essay
Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment (Pollution,
2017). Ever since we were born there has always been a problem with harmful things on our planet.
Humans have tried an enormous amount of ideas trying to help the planet. Adults tell the young kids
to always recycle or to help the Earth by planting a tree. Those two ideas are spread around the
entire world, but there are certain things going around that are not helping the Earth. They are called
pollutants. For example, some are water, air, soil, thermal, radiative, noise and light pollution. With
all of these pollutants there are many causes of each. The most talked about pollution is air
pollution. Air pollution is a mixture of solid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The waste produced by animals can get washed into rivers or streams when it rains and then that
waste gets mixed up with other chemicals which forms a giant disaster. Even though the large
problems are mostly talked about there are other pollutants that have a huge impact but aren't talked
about as much. An example is soil pollution. This is split into two causes: manmade and naturally
made. Manmade includes accidental spills, transportation and cracked paint chips. Leaks of gasoline
and diesel, releasing chemicals from vehicles and just lead based paint being cracked off can cause
soil pollution. Also the waste in landfills may leak into the ground or generate polluted vapors.
However, natural causes can be much more of a problem than manmade. Leaks from sewer lines and
natural accumulation of compounds in soil due to imbalances between atmospheric deposition are
both natural events that are ruining the earth's ground (Soil Pollution Causes, 2017). Light pollution
is when you excessively use your electricity. Your parents would always tell you to turn off the
lights that you aren't using or unplug any device that is not needed. Light pollution can be caused by
three reasons. 1.) The intrusive light falling inside our rooms from outside at night is a kind of light
pollution called light trespass. 2.) Large industrial and residential areas cause light clutter. 3.)
Excessive and immoderate use of lighting causes

The world faces many issues, but the most important which will affect people living on this planet is
that it is slowly deteriorating. Pollution, excessive greenhouse gases, and the ozone layer depletion
are causing the environment to slowly degrade and cause chronic and fatal health issues such as
cancer. One of the main ways to help the environment be a better place is by having businesses be
more environmentally friendly. Businesses don't have to put a lot of effort in helping the
environment, but instead small changes can make a big difference. Businesses can help the
environment by reducing their carbon emissions, reducing carbon capping, reducing pollution, and
reducing the amount of greenhouse gasses that are being emitted into the air. Businesses helping the
environment could also save money for the company and make the world a better place. Pollution is
one of the main reasons that the earth is deteriorating. According to Major Causes of Environmental
Destruction by the Green Tumble Editorial Team Today, mentions that "our world is becoming

Construction Pollution Prevention and Cost Recovery * Personal damage. From the perspective of
the public, the best prevention is to spend as little time as possible outside (e.g., in your yard or
balcony) close to a construction site during operation time. Additionally, having a rich vegetation
around your home (and between the home and the construction site) will act as a natural filter for the
generated pollution, reducing the amount of pollution you may come in contact with. So, planting in
your yards or even pot plants in a balcony can help. The greener the better. Also, regular spraying of
water around the home will reduce the amount of dust and exposure through inhalation, although the
soil and water pollution may increase (but these are less directly affecting you than air!). However,
if you believe you are already negatively impacted by a construction site in the vicinity, especially if
you have been recently diagnosed with a medical condition involving the respiratory system, you
may be entitled to compensation. Evaluate your pollution case for free. * Property damage. From the
perspective of the construction site owner / developer, you may be faced with building on polluted
land

Speech On Pollution
Pollution should be banned from society and our planet. This may be a topic that is discussed all the
time, but we need to "wake up" and make changes now. Some of our world's most pollutants places
have damaging effects, such as birth defects, the loss of thirty to forty IQ points, and life expectancy
may be as low as forty–five years because of cancer and other diseases. This is enough reason alone
to continue to address the problem of pollution. Pollution is when the air, water, land, and
environment is made dirty and unsafe to use. This is done by contamination of the natural
environment, which can be tangible to intangible. According to a non–profit organization named
Pure Earth, toxic pollution affects more than two–hundred million people worldwide. These
pollutants are created from different elements and affect our society and the human race in several
ways. There are many types of pollutions, such as air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution,
food pollution, and land pollution that have been affecting our world greatly and the human race that
live in it. One type of pollution is Air pollution. Air is one of the most important elements of our
environment for our survival. It is a natural gift and a free asset. It is polluted in many ways. Land
vehicles use oil and fuel, which create smoke. The smoke gets mixed with air and thus pollutes air.
Mills, factories and industries are also held responsible for air pollution because they create smoke.

Additional sizable problem joined with pesticide use is bioaccumulation and biological increase.
Bioaccumulation is when a material fabricates up the display because the body does not have the

they show up in the body of an organism, they are forever stored in the body tissue. Due to mild

Pollution And Air Pollution
One of the man–kinds biggest contributor to pollution is driving cars. Heavily populated cities, to be
exact, are the most to blame for their horrendous living conditions. The pollution in Beijing has
caused the city to be a hazard for anyone who breathes oxygen. According to an article from Forbes
Magazine, "tiny carcinogenic particles known as PM2.5 reportedly at times are above 300
micrograms per cubic meter. The World Health Organization's recommended maximum exposer is
25 micrograms". Side effects such as early deaths, heart and lung problems, cancer, diabetes, birth
defects plague the millions of people who live there. In a few years the city could find a simple fix
just by switching to electric vehicles.
The problem of atmospheric pollution due to automobiles is beyond the point of being a serious
issue. Journalist Viola Zhou of the South China Morning Post said
"As well as the health risks, rising ozone levels in China are also damaging its rice yields – a
problem that could compromise global food security, according to a recent study led by researchers
at the University of California, Davis".
It seems as if the Chinese government might not have the issue under control. Although they have
sent of multiple teams of officials to dozens of cities around Beijing to try grab hold of the smog
problem, pollutant levels have risen to nearly 14% from 2013–2016 (South Morning China Post).
According to the online source The Guardian, in May of 2017 dozens of flights had to be canceled
and civilians were told to stay inside because the air quality was so poor. Li Shuo, Greenpeace's
Beijing–based climate campaigner, tweeted "Sand storm + industrial pollution = airpocalypse in the
middle of spring,". The levels of the particle PM10 were reportedly over 2,000 micrograms per
cubic gram (Guardian 1). Living a healthy life is essentially impossible for anyone who breathes
oxygen in Beijing. Lung disease amongst many other variables control the lifestyle there. If a
change from fossil fuel powered machines isn't implemented immediately, the people of Beijing
won't stand a chance.
The option of hybrid cars is not sustainable at this point. The pollution and emission level is so high,
that a drastic change in fuel

Pollution In Water Pollution
Pollution is a major problem in water systems all around the world and in our creek. In our area,
eutrophication and acid rain are the two main pollution problems in our area. Eutrophication can be
caused by sewage treatment plants, home sewage systems, and farm fertilizer runoff. Acid rain can
be caused by the burning of fossil fuel. Eutrophication causes plants to die and when the plants die,
the bacteria from the dead plants use up the oxygen from the water, which causes the fish to die.

My hypothesis is if the creek has higher levels of phosphates and nitrates, and lower level of
dissolved oxygen, then the creek will be polluted. The levels of nitrates and phosphates should be
near 0 ppm for the creek to not be considered polluted. The dissolved oxygen levels should be
higher if the creek is healthy. Dissolved oxygen is essentially the amount of oxygen in the water. For
the acid rain test, we put a solution on different rocks to see if the acid dissolved the rocks. The
nitrate and phosphate test involved getting a specific amount of creek water, putting different
solutions in the water, and matching the solutions with other vials to determine the state of the
water.Photo Credits to Alex Cathers
There were 487 macroinvertebrates that were found in total at the creek. 308 were pollution
sensitive, 101 were somewhat pollution tolerant, and 78 were pollution tolerant. This is one
indicator that the creek is less polluted because the more

China's Pollution Problem
China, one of the worlds largest industrial powers, is now facing a difficult situation. China's
industries rely largely on coal power which emits harmful gases, causing intense air pollution. The
Chinese government, in fear that the country would fall in a recession, has not done much to stop
these industries, so China has become the second largest greenhouse gas emitter in the world. The
types of pollution created by this include air pollution and water pollution, both of which are
harmful to people and wildlife. China's problem has become the world's problem. Nitrogen oxides
and sulfur oxides disgorged by coal–fired power plants fall as acid rain on Seoul and Tokyo, and
much of the particulate pollution in Los ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And the country is pushing equally hard to build nuclear reactors and the most efficient types of coal
power plants." As China made great efforts to dominate renewable energy technologies, it has the
advantage of being the world's largest market for power equipment. The government spends heavily
to upgrade the electricity grid, committing $45 billion in 2009 alone and state–owned banks provide
generous financing. China's commitment to renewable energy is expensive. Although costs are
falling steeply through mass production, wind energy is still 20 to 40 percent more expensive than
coal–fired power and solar power is still at least twice as expensive as coal. The Chinese
government charges a renewable energy fee to all electricity users and the fee increases residential
electricity bills by 0.25 percent to 0.4 percent, but for industrial users of electricity, the fee doubled
in November, 2010, to roughly 0.8 percent of the electricity bill. The fee revenue goes to companies
that operate the electricity grid, to make up the cost difference between renewable energy and coal–
fired power. Renewable energy fees are not yet high enough to affect China's competitiveness even
in energy–intensive industries, said the chairman of a Chinese industrial company, who asked not to
be identified because of the political sensitivity of electricity rates in China. Grid operators are
unhappy because they are reimbursed for the extra cost of buying renewable energy instead of coal–

Vehicle Pollution And Vehicle Pollution
If we have a look at traffic today, we see more and more cars that are powered by electricity instead
of the ecologically harmful fuel most cars used to drag their power from. Although the first electric
car was invented by the Scottish inventor Robert Anderson between 1832 and 1839, a crude electric
carriage powered by non–rechargeable primary cells, between now and then the majority of cars we
found on the streets were powered by fuel. But still, although more than 2 million electric vehicles
now travel the world's roads, they only make up 0.2 percent of the total light–duty passenger vehicle
share around the world. And still, this is a major step in the right direction. In 2016, the number of
electric cars increased by 60 percent, and in 2015 by 77 percent. Electric cars sure are in the
ascendant, just why is that a good thing? The answer is quite simple and everywhere known; vehicle
pollution. And because this vehicle pollution is a major problem for us and our environment, the
negative externalities of this vehicle pollution are going to be analyzed and advice on how to solve
or better, get rid of the problem, is going to be offered.
To start off, here is a short definition of what exactly negative externalities are. They are costs that
are suffered by a third party. These costs are also called the social welfare loss. Producer and
consumer are the first and second parties, third parties on the other hand are individual people other

Air Pollution
Air pollution has been an ongoing issue for decades. With a vast amount of causes, such as: burning
fossil fuel, manufacturing, and wildfires; it is hard to completely eliminate air pollution, but
something can be done to lessen the severity of air pollution. Long exposure to poor air quality
leaves the human respiratory system at risk.
Air pollution can affect those with asthma, especially children. Researchers did a test to see whether
air pollution caused by vehicles was a factor that affected the respiratory system of children, ages
ten to eighteen (Jerrett et al., 2008). They gathered a selection of children and tested the air in their
surrounding area as well as recorded data regarding any effects the air around them had placed on ...

Although children are more prone to getting asthma attacks or developing asthma at a young age,
adults still have a likelihood of developing asthma even if their body is fully developed.
Severe air pollution and long exposures to air pollution can lead to people developing lung cancer. A
research study was done in several European countries to see if air pollution was actually a factor
that caused lung cancer (Raaschou–Nielsen et al., 2013). What they found had supported my
hypothesis; they found that air pollution in fact, did have a relation to people's development of lung
cancer. The more one is exposed to air pollution, the higher their risk is of developing lung cancer
because of all the amount of particulate matter in the air. In addition, a different group of researchers
tested a similar theory in Canada, but they went more in–depth and wanted to know what type of
gases and/or chemicals, specifically, caused lung cancer (Hystad et al., 2013). They found that the
leading cause of lung cancer from air pollution, was from long exposure to nitrogen dioxide, which
is commonly found near highways because of automobiles. The closer the people lived near
highways, the more lung damage they got from being exposed to such chemicals and gases from
automobiles more frequently. Correspondingly, a few years back, Michael Jerrett and his colleagues
studied the same factors in Canada as well.

The Pollution Of The Air Pollution
Most people have felt or took in the air pollutants coming from a car but little did they know what
the consequences that smell or the soot may present. The black smoke, and sometimes invisible
pollutants, are causing harm all over the earth without people realizing it. Car pollution can cause
disruption to human 's health, the environment, and the cities in just a matter of time and in many
different ways. The air pollution from cars contains various components that all can factor into
harming humans health. According to The Environmental Protection Agency's actions, they took
away a key part of the pollution from gasoline:lead. This is a dangerous component of gas because it
affects parts of the body such as organs, the brain, and the nervous system. Children gain the worst
effects from the lead but everyone can gain bad side effects and problems from a simple part of
pollution going into the air (Cars, Trucks, Buses, and Nonroad). Lead is a very harsh component of
gas and is definitely a part of pollution that you do not want to expose kids to because of the even
more dangerous effects it has on them compared to adults. Along with the elimination of lead,
Baines states that "Diesel engines power most large vehicles like buses and trucks. They are also
becoming more popular in cars. They use less fuel, but if they are not tuned properly, they can create
a lot of black smoke and soot. It is suspected that this can cause cancer in some people" (Baines 22).

Cars and trucks produce air pollution throughout their life, carrying pollution emitted during vehicle
service, refueling, construction, and disposal. Additional emissions are combined with the refini ary

results from chemical reactions between toxins in the atmosphere. The accompanying are the
principal pollutants from motor vehicles. These particles of soot and metals give smog its dark color.
Fine particles less than one–tenth the width of an individual hair give the most significant hazard to

Pollution Of Water Pollution
Thousands of plastic water bottles are being tossed inconsiderably into the bayous, rivers, and large
bodies of water every year. Because of this action, it raises many concerning issues that appeal to a
variety of people. The artist has strong view points and opinions towards the topic of pollution. The
artist created an image of a photo–shopped iceberg made of plastic water bottles compared to a real
natural iceberg in a body of water. The visual image is depicted in great detail in accordance to the
contents of the subject as well as the point of view of the artist. The artist uses rhetorical appeals to
bring awareness to the warnings, threats, and stifling of pollution, and what pollution means to
them.
The visual image of trash over–polluting the ocean suggests that without proper care and
consideration of our ecosystem, pollution can potentially become life threatening. The real iceberg is
composed of actual frozen water while the fake iceberg is composed of crushed water bottles. The
over–pollution of the area adjacent to the iceberg represents that man–made products are causing the
pollution while the iceberg signifies the pure nature of the earth. The unrealistic trash "iceberg" is
not proportional in means of size compared to the adjacent natural iceberg. The trash is instead
portrayed larger than the iceberg; this metaphor suggests that the more the community pollutes, the
faster the deterioration of the ecosystem will proceed. The polluted iceberg grows in size

Kate Galbraith, A journalist, released an article covering the condition and to what extent africa's
pollution is currently at. The article was released by The New York Times on April 2014. It starts off
by telling us how an air quality scientist was testing the air. The machine that was created in Arizona
was man to calculate the amount of pollution in the air. While testing the air in Ouagadougou the
machine clogged and was sent back to the United States of America for repair. Galbraith continued
on how things such as vehicle exhaust, dusty roads to even cooking with woods, also known as
inside pollution, all contribute to the worrisome problem altogether. Health was now becoming a
problem as dirty air can cause heart disease, stroke, and cancer and was third highest level of deaths
per capita from indoor air pollution of any region of the world said Galbraith. Ms.Linden, until 2007
did research on Burkina Faso, said that one of the major outdoor sources of air pollution was
Industrial Activities when the population in Ouagadougou swell by 50%. In this Article things such
as the machine to calculate air pollution malfunctioned while on trial in an african country. Kate also
included how industrial activities played a big part in outdoor pollution sources. Galbraith kept a
very informative tone throughout the article as she explained the situations and how it was being
measured. I believe that Galbraith was great in giving detail and going into depth in how the

POLLUTION
Pollution can be a very hazardous thing to happen to the population and the economy. If left to grow
to worst condition it can cause health issues to the people of the affected area and can cause death
which in turn gives fewer people to work causing the economy to drop to dangerous levels. Another
way the economy could fall due to pollution is if indeed the problem of pollution is coming from the
factories in the area which in fact helps the economy with funds. This example is happening in real
life and in fact, is happening in China. With China main income coming from steel and coal this is a
double edge sword for them.
The Chinese government has been going through a tough situation that is leading to deciding
whether they should work on the pollution problem as to which they would sacrifice economic
growth. If the government allows the situation of pollution to affect the environment as it is now,
then no economic advances will have any value. In the long run, if it were to keep increasing then
this would keep taking away human lives and at the same time block economic growth indefinitely.
How can a country maintain its growth if there is no more drinkable water nor water to grow crops?
Not only would it destroy the economy, but it would cause the whole country to collapse in the end.
Therefore, if we slow economic growth to protect the environment today, China will have its chance
to continue developing in the years to come when a more stable environmental

Environmental Pollution
Let have a critical look at our environment as a complex system with many different interaction
between its different components making life possible on earth. Unfortunately, human activities over
the years have adversely affected the chemical, biological, physical and social component of the
natural environment leading to environmental pollution and climatic change. In the United Kingdom
for example, the 'Great Smog of 1952' cannot be forgotten in history when we talk about
environmental pollution and it effect on human. The great smog of 1952 which was formed from
steady smog missed with soot and sulphur dioxide from coal burning occurred killed 12,000 people
in the United Kingdom killed (Fullerton 2016). This in addition to other serious environmental
pollution and their effect on the environment and human has greatly affected policies and control of
emissions into the environment. (Dunnings, ND)
In other to control further pollution to the environment, environmental modelling has been a crucial
tool in predicting the short and long term effects of human activities and pollutant in the
environment. "EPA.gov (2017) define modelling as a simplification of reality that is constructed to
gain insights into select attributes of a physical, biological, economic, or social system. A formal
representation of the behaviour of system processes, often in mathematical or statistical terms. The
basis can also be physical or conceptual."

The environment also suffers when floods happen. Chemicals and other hazardous substances end
up in the water and eventually contaminate the water bodies that floods end up in. In 2011, a huge
tsunami hit Japan, and sea water flooded a part of the coastline. The flooding caused massive
leakage in nuclear plants and has since caused high radiation in that area. Authorities in Japan fear
that Fukushima radiation levels are 18 times higher than even thought. Additionally, flooding causes
kills animals, and others insects are introduced to affected areas, distorting the natural balance of the
ecosystem. Floods disrupt normal drainage systems in cities, and sewage spills are common, which

Floods tend to further degrade already degraded systems. Removal of vegetation in and around
rivers, increased channel size, dams, levee bank and catchment clearing all work to degrade the hill–
slopes, rivers and floodplains, and increase the erosion and transfer of both sediment and nutrients.
While cycling of sediments and nutrients is essential to a healthy system, too much sediment and
nutrient entering a waterway has negative impacts on downstream water quality. Other negative
effects include loss of habitat, dispersal of weed species, the release of pollutants, lower fish
production, loss of wetlands function, and loss of recreational areas. Many of our coastal resources,
including fish and other forms of marine production, are dependent on the nutrients supplied from
the land during floods. The negative effects of floodwaters on coastal marine environments are
mainly due to the introduction of excess sediment and nutrients, and pollutants such as chemicals,
heavy metals and debris. These can degrade aquatic habitats, lower water quality, reduce coastal
production, and contaminate coastal food

Pollution Of The Ocean Pollution
So many things are taken for granted in this world. Visiting places like the Dominican Republic and
Hawaii is exciting and beautiful. They are a serene and relaxing place to be, but this beauty is in
jeopardy. Pollution of the ocean causes these exotic beaches to become unpleasing to the senses. The
pollution of the ocean problem goes much deeper than just looking unpleasant. From sea life to the
environmental impacts, pollution in the ocean is an immediate and growing problem that must be
addressed.
Pollution of the ocean is widely seen all around. The litter comes in so many very different forms
that are almost terrifying. It ranges from a cigarette to a 4,000–pound fishing net (Franc, 2013).
Medical waste such as needles were even noticed in New York and New Jersey in 1988. The world's
merchant shipping fleet in 1975 was blamed for 85% of 14 billion pounds of garbage dumped into
the sea (Amaral, n.d.). Out of all of the garbage and waste in the ocean it is said that more than 80%
of the garbage in the ocean comes from land alone (Mosbergen, 2017). In just one hour, nine
minutes, and 44 seconds, a very large number of 2,877,783 pounds of plastic has entered the ocean
(Leeson & Elliot, 2016). Today after all of the dumping that goes on there are over 25 trillion pieces
of plastic inside of the ocean. While that is a large number, only 269,000 tons can be seen afloat the
water ("Ocean Pollution: 14 Facts that will Blow Your Mind," 2017). The easier way of explaining
just how much waste enters our ocean would be just to say "too much," but to be exact, in 2007 2.12
billion tons of garbage enter the ocean and just three years later in 2010, 215 million metric tons of
plastic entered the ocean (Lonne, 2016). In 2006 the United Nations Environment Program did an
experiment on how much plastic there was every square mile of the ocean. They ended up
estimating about 46,000 pieces of plastic every square mile ("Facts and Figures on Marine
Pollution," 2017). In the Northern Pacific Ocean lies the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. It is said to be
about seven million square miles ("Marine Debris Impacts," n.d.). Plastic accounts for about 70% of
all the litter in the ocean and can take a very short time or a very long time

Marine Pollution
I make my way down the sand with the scorching sun shining bright in my face, trying to reach to
the cooling ocean as fast as I can. I feel the ocean's continuous movement of the currents shifting
back and forth, making me think about how the ocean currents create the rubbish patches, gathering
bits of plastic on the way. I wonder if people think about the consequences of littering before doing
it and the harm that it has on the sea life?
Over the last few decades human activities have become a danger to marine life, through marine
pollution. According to WWF.panda.org over 80% of marine pollution comes from land–based
activities, such as oil, fertilisers, general rubbish, sewage disposal, and toxic chemicals. As someone
who cares about ocean and its sea life these statistics always saddens me to think that humans are
the main cause of their harm. Just this weekend there has been an article in the newspaper about a
whale's stomach that was full of around 30 plastic bags. The whale was then put down in Norway
after they failed to rescue it. What we need to realise as people is that even though the ocean may
seem big enough to hold a lot of pollution it's actually having an enormous effect on the marine life
and could also start having more of an effect on us through diseases, transferred when eating
contaminated fish that may have consumed the toxic substances. The newspaper article on the whale
sadly didn't even seem to surprise me anymore, I have seen many similar

Currently, most countries have made numerous environmental policies and spent lots of money to

China's leaders were putting, even more, emphasis on the companies who make chemical
production, especially after chemical disasters in recent years. Although
China has made great process in supervision pollution, the serious gaps still exist in hazardous
materials' oversight in China.
Recently, there was uproar among Chinese families after a report of China Central
Television, and the report revealed that about 500 students at Changzhou Foreign
Languages School had developed illnesses because of pollution at school.
This media watch summarizes three important news reports about the pollution at

Pollution Problems Caused By Pollution

  • 1. Pollution Problems Caused By Pollution Introduction Pollution is serious problem that influence our normal day lives, especially in the industrial city such as London in the middle of 18th century. Nowadays, pollution problem is getting worse and worse all around the world and people's lives are effected from it. For example, the Air pollution problem in Beijing or the water pollution problem in East China Sea. Pollution is defined as" the action of polluting especially by environmental contamination with man–made waste." in merriam– webster.com. In other words, it is a phenomenon that man–made material or industrial wastes make a damage to our environment. The history of pollution goes back to the Middle Age when the disease like cholera or "Black Death" broke out all over the world and a lot of people were killed because of this. After that by 1800, people finally realized that all of the tragedy were caused by the human and animal waste that they put in the environment. In other words, pollutants. However, people didn't take this serious. In the middle of 18th century, along with the industrial revolution and the invention of the steam engine, the new type of pollution which has been known as Air pollution came out. Finally, people were aware of the danger of pollution, they created the laws that normally called the Clean Water Act and the Clean Air Act in the 19th century. According to the author, "These laws have significantly reduced the amount of pollution released into the environment.". Nonpoint Source ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Pollution In Oceans Right now there is way too much pollution in the oceans. Fish population is going down, coral reefs are dying and the oceans are becoming unswimmable. Too much trash is being dumped into the oceans. 8 million pounds of trash is dumped into the ocean each year. Pollution in the oceans also affects the fish population. Since the 1960's the fish population has decreased by 75% because of pollution.Sea creatures are mistaking the trash for food and eating plastic There are many sea creatures that are endangered. Like blue whales, sea turtles, sea lions and many more. There are also a number of coral reefs dying that our a big role in our ocenas. • 5. Pollution Effect On Plant Pollution While I went through this project I noticed that I truly do not have a green thumb, the only plants that really changed much were the plants that I killed. My motor oil plants rapidly died, shrinking quickly and drying up. I actually still only have two of the control group plants. My hypothesis was supported, the plants that I administered motor oil to died rapidly while the other plants just kind of continued life. I know that most oil spills usually occur in the ocean or coastal waters, but this project really made me understand how tragic just a little bit of oil could be on vegetation. The United States distributes, consumes, and even produces huge quantities of oil every single year. Over 10 million gallons of oil is spilled yearly. I can't honestly think of many ways to prevent such things from happening but one thing I do know is that we should start thinking of better ways to transport oil to reduce oil spills on land. This semester I studied the effect certain types of pollution has on plant growth. My initial hypothesis was that the pollutant would affect the plant growth excessively, and might even kill the plants in the experimental group. The results of this project were almost exactly what I predicted them to be, and ultimately my hypothesis was supported. Soil pollution is so common these days, and it mainly happens due to elements that are man–made. Our waste, is so much different from things that nature itself produces. Rotten fruits and vegetables, dead animals or dead plants make the soil more fertile and unbelievably are actually really good types of "food" for soil. Our waste on the other hand is full of so many harsh chemicals that are obviously not originally found in nature and this is what leads to soil pollution. There are so many different things that factor into soil pollution. Things such as coal or iron mines depend solely on extracting minerals from the Earth and the by products that are used are contaminated and usually not disposed of properly. Industrial waste stays in the soil for who knows how long. One thing that a lot of people probably never think about (including myself) is the types of personal waste we contaminate the soil with. Our bodies are filled with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Importance Of Pollution Pollution is everywhere. We can hear it every day at school, college and get information about it from the newspaper. It occurs when the pollutants pollute the environment and it brings about the changes that affect our lifestyles. Pollution interrupts the balance of the ecosystem in the environment. This is because our lives have reached its peak by changing with modernization and development and it gives huge rise in global warming and human illness. (Pollution) It is the high time for us to take the action to save the Mother Earth from major environmental issues. We cannot ignore it because its effects will harm human existence in the future. (10) Engineering developments produce good results in resource depletion and environmental destruction. Modern technologies are used in the engineering and manufacturing industry and they bring a lot of major impact in our daily life every year. (10) Engineering and manufacturing industry increase the use of materials like plastic. They use in the production of huge amounts of products that associated with different industries such as car production units and plastic industries that cause a lot of effects and they are considered to be non– environment friendly. (10) Pollution has many types such air, water, soil and light. Every form of pollution has two kinds of occurrence that are the point and the non–point sources. The point sources are easy to identify, monitor and control while the non–point sources are hard to control. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Air Pollution Air pollution has affected millions of people in some way. There are cities where air pollution is not a problem but there are cities where air pollution is a big problem. South Bronx in the 2000s faces critical high levels of air pollution. Children were the ones who suffer the most. Every day many kids were hospitalized because of asthma. One of the main causes of air pollution in South Bronx were thousands of trucks traffic on the highways. The carbon dioxide that the truck release into the air cause high air pollution levels. Air pollution in the South Bronx last decade was life–threatening for children with asthma due to truck traffic. To begin, the main cause of air pollution in South Bronx was truck traffic. thousand of trucks passed through South Bronx high way every day. "The South Bronx is a major traffic hub. At Hunts Point Market alone, some 12,000 trucks roll in and out daily". (Rupar) The evidence shows that South Bronx it's very busy with truck traffic. Thousands of trucks passed through only through Huts points. This a lot of trucks just for hunts points alone. and there is more on the other parts of South Bronx. Also when there are events happening in South Bronx there is more traffic than it's on a normal day. This is bad because when is a normal day the levels of air pollution are high, and when there is more traffic the air pollution is twice worse. "During the baseball months, the South Bronx neighborhood is a congested traffic nightmare, a hot zone of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Soil Pollution Presently, most cars run on gasoline and thus gas stations are vital to our everyday life. In urban cities, gas stations are found in just about every other corner. It has already been documented that burning gasoline produces toxic fumes that contributes to air pollution, global warming, and many health concerns. Soil surrounding a gas station can also be contaminated with gasoline and generate soil pollution. In comparison with air, soil is more complex in composition and function. It functions as a sink for pollutants, as a filter which delays the passage of chemicals to groundwater, and as a bioreactor for organic life. Just as gas is a source of fuel for cars, soil is an essential component of the earth's ecosystem. It serves as a home to many microbes and provides the necessary nutrients to plants that dwell in it. The pondus hyrdogenii (pH) indicates a solution's acidity and alkalinity. A pH value of 7 is considered neutral. A solution with a pH between 0 to 7 is acid and one between 7 to 14 is alkaline. Most biological organisms including plants have a very narrow range of pH values in which environmental substrates can survive. Plants prefer acidic substances. This leads to the following questions: Are gas stations in El Paso, Texas a contributing factor to soil contamination? Do Gas Stations Cause Soil Contamination? Soil around the world is a habitat for numerous plants and animals. However, every day, certain patches of soil are perhaps being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Pollution Water Pollution Did you know that out beautiful ocean is being polluted by 12.7 million tonnes of rubbish each year? Our oceans are being polluted by us, which is unnecessary as we need the water clean because 97% of our water supply is from there. If we continue to keep mistreating it, we will be left with only 3% of water to use in everyday situations like showering and watering the garden. It isn't enough especially with the growth in population. Did you know that 30% of all CO2 commissions is absorbed by the ocean? So, all this proves that our ocean is essential for living. Thankfully, we have two amazing heros –Andrew Turton and Pete Ceginsle– have invented a amazing invention called the Seabin. What is the Seabin? We are so incredibly lucky Andrew and Peter have found a solution to fix what we have called– water pollution. They invented the 'Seabin' which is a cylinder that floated upright. It has a water pump in it that sucks up all the floating debris and oil on the surface. The Seabin has been very successful as it collectes approximately 1.5 kilograms of rubbish everyday. $50,000 was raised towards the Seabin protect because each bin costs around $3,800 to make. And to make it even more Eco–friendly, each bins has been created from 75–100% recyclable materials. All the rubbish they catch by using the Seabin, they us that to create more and more Seabins. Problems with water pollution They are so many problems for us and our marine life due to careless people littering each day. Did you know shat on average, each person throws away around 2.7 kilogram of rubbish everyday. Do you every wonder how much of that ends up in the ocean, killing and hurting our innocent animals? Think of every piece of plastic you leave in the environment. It will soon end up in the environment and be there for another 400 years. Did you know, that 37 million gallons of oil are spilled into out oceans, worldwide each year? The oil then sits on the water, preventing animals to get sunlight. This causes a vitamin D difisancy, which could potentially cause them to die out. Oil spills have have killed and harmed approximately 82,000 birds over 102 species. Other animals that are hurt from oil spills are animals with blow holes and feathers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Pollution Of Water Pollution Fresh Water Pollution WILLIAM WRIGHT GRANTHAM UNIVERSITY In this paper I will discuss one of the world's problems which is the pollution of the Fresh Water Systems in the United States. I will show how the pollution of fresh water affects land, air and plant life to include humanity. When water is polluted it can affect all living things. Some of the human activities that can be affected is the drinking water, without fresh drinking water humans would not be able to survive. One of the pleasures that humans enjoy is swimming although humans can swim in the oceans some enjoy lakes and if the lakes are polluted then that activity would not be able to be performed. Also without fresh water much there would be lost of sea life and those who rely on fishing as a way of life would be out of resources to provide for their families. Water pollution is a global problem it is reported that more than 1,030327 deaths occur from dirty water diseases. Dirty water is considered to be one of human's greatest dangers. Dirty water contains organisms which are called pathogens; these pathogens contain bacteria, viruses and parasitic organisms. What these organisms do is infect humans which cause illness. Some of the illness that can be caused by polluted water is Typhoid which is an infectious bacterial; this causes fever with an outbreak of red spots on the chest and abdomen and severe gastral irritation. Another illness is Cholera which is infectious and is a fatal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Human Pollution The world is dying. The world is being overrun with human pollution. The most polluted parts are the parts nobody notices until they see trash floating upon waves and washing onto shores. The animals get tangled up and cannot escape from human filth. There is no escape for them. This is why people need to help prevent trash from getting into the oceans. Even if helping prevent trash from entering the ocean cost more money than allowing it to enter the water system, it will prevent ecosystems, environments and their climates from perishing. One reason why people should not throw trash in the ocean is that it harms ecosystems. Ecosystems in the world are already in trouble from humans, but when people throw trash in the ocean it affects the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reason people should help get rid of the trash around and in the ocean is because it can annihilate environments and climates. The Author states that the ocean is the main buffer against climate change,"In fact, about 25 percent of the greenhouse gases that we emit actually gets absorbed by the oceans, as does over 90 per cent of the extra heat produced by human–induced climate change, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reports"(Baher). This shows that trash in the oceans are not only affecting wildlife but affecting the world also. Moreover, the trash is also affecting the environment. According to Yakupitiyage, "Because of ocean currents, this trash accumulates in what is known as "ocean garbage patches," located in virtually every ocean in the world....This has contributed to the massive piles of trash that have washed upon the shores of the isolated and once pristine Henderson Island in the South Pacific. A recent study found that the UNESCO world heritage site is covered with over 38 million pieces of trash, making it the most densely polluted place in the world." As Yakupitiyage says, due to all of the trash, the oceans are making garbage patches that wash up on shores, which causes environmental damage. Consequently, trash in the oceans can cause catastrophic damage to the climate and the environment. One problem of helping contain the trash, is the cost of using materials that decompose quicker. • 22. Pesticide Pollution Fertilizer and pesticide usage has increased dramatically worldwide, especially in China. Twenty years of uncontrolled economic development have created serious, chronic air and water pollution. In order to support China's growing population, the country has drastically increased its usage of fertilizers and pesticides in the agricultural sector. China consumes around a third of global fertilizers, with rapid growth in use in recent years, driven largely by higher fruit and vegetable production. Excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides threatens both public health and agricultural productivity. Many farmers choose to use chemicals to keep weeds and pests from destroying their crops while adding more nutrients to the soil. Yet such benefits do not come without environmental costs––namely the pesticide pollution of China's streams, rivers, lakes, and even coastal areas, as these toxic chemicals runoff into nearby waterways, contaminating the food, drinking water causing massive health problems. While fertilizers and pesticides, as stated above, provide economic benefits for the farmers in terms of increasing yields; but also provide adverse impacts. These impacts on the environment are called "negative externalities." According to researchers, "not many measures are being taken in order to enforce safe, organic, and healthy fertilization. If a good has a negative externality, then the cost to society is greater than the cost consumer is paying for it." Since ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Earth Pollution I'm going to start off my essay by talking about "earth pollution". There are seven different types of earth pollution. Starting of with water pollution and air pollution, I think these would be the most common and prevalent forms of earth pollution. Water and air are both extremely important to the enviroment. The rest is, soil pollution, thermal pollution, radioactive pollution, noise pollution and light pollution. There is also air pollution that works in a green house infect. Which can warm up the earth. The green house affect can be caused by sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide. Soil pollution is caused by, " Human made chemicals or other alternation in the natural soil environment". It is meanly caused by agricultural chemicals, industrial stuff and people who do not take good care of their trash. An example of this is (littering). Thermal pollution is a process that changes water quality for the worse by the water tempter. The main way that thermal pollution is active, is by big "Power Plants" using water as a coolant. Radioactive pollution is when are there radioactive particles in the air, and this is caused by human actions. It is accidental or on tentonal . Noise pollution is basically where there is a lot of noise that people just do not want. It can even damage stuff like your hearing not being able to sleep as well and it can cause high stress levels, and it has more effects than that. When I first saw noise pollution as one of the seven different types of earth pollution I thought it was kind of weird, but now that I looked in to it, it makes more sence. For the last one of the seven types of earth pollution (which is Light pollution) I decided to take a closer look at it then the others. So, I watched a documentary about light pollution. Light pollution is when a lot of lights, mainly coming from big cities, this is bad because it makes it harder to see the stars. What makes so you can't see the stars is light that shines up on dust particles. In the past people lite things up with torches or lamps but now all over the world people are lighting things up with electrice lights. Astronomers have noticed that when they want to get a good look at the night sky they have to go farther away from big ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pollution Of China Air Pollution Faith Andrews Professor Williams English 120 4/30/2015 Air Pollution in China "Anyone 's life truly lived consists of work, sunshine, exercise, soap, plenty of fresh air, and a happy contented spirit," –Lillie Langtry(BrainyQuote); air is important part of life without we cannot live, yet the people in China breath in pollution air which is slowing killing their population. Most of us take the air we breathe for granted and never stop to think that we are slowly causing the very thing we need to live to become a poison that will enter our lungs. But how does air get polluted one might ask? The main cause of air pollution emission is from the burning of fossil fuels and the burning of these fuels cause the air to become harmful to people and the environment (Facts and Details). So in this essay I will bring up how bad China air is, how it got to be so bad, why it is important for you to know and solutions to the problem. First thing I want to talk about is just how bad the air in China is. According to Abc.net Linfen, China is the number one most polluted place on earth causing high levels of bronchitis, pneumonia, lung cancer, and lead poisoning in children alone. Which brings me to death rate every year in China, according to the Studies by the world bank, WHO, and the Chinese academy of Environment planning, they found around 350,000 and 500,000 people die prematurely because of the air (telegraph ). ... • 28. The Pollution Of Water Pollution Sea Water Pollution I. Title Water pollution has many different meanings, in most cases it is when one or more material builds up in the water causing a problem for people and/ or animals. Water pollution is one of the world's largest problems that we are facing today. Everyone in this world is affect by the earth's water. Some are affected differently than others but we are still affected in one way or another. Water pollution doesn't only threaten humans; it threatens plants and animals as well as sea creatures. Hazardous dumping of toxins and other dangerous materials is one of the most serious problems of sea pollution. Pollution of the sea can kill human beings as well as the animals. This paper will analyze the cause / detection of sea pollution, what methods are used in measuring sea pollution, the areas that are most affected, some of the most recent and current water pollution activities, and the ways that water pollution can possibly be eliminated. II. Background Information There are many different types of water pollution. These types of pollutants in the rivers and lakes will kill the fishes and other sea animals. Some types of pollution are Runoffs, Oil pollution, Sewage, and Organic. Sea pollution is not bad for everyone; the water companies make more money when there is more pollution in the water. On the other end many corporations depend on unpolluted water for their fishing industries. Sea water pollution causes many different problems in the world. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. The Air Pollution And The Water Pollution Cancer– it is one of those words that people whisper in hush tones behind closed doors. It's the type of word that brings nothing but heartbreak. The second the words "you have cancer" are said, the clock starts ticking away at the time you have left louder than an airhorn. Cancer uncovers the fighters that have been hidden away. It is one of the worst battles to fight, because ultimately it is already a battle lost. In 2012, 14.1 million people were diagnosed with cancer. In that same year 8.2 million people died from it. There is predicted to be 23.6 million people diagnosed with cancer each year by 2030. (CancerResearchUK) However, some countries suffer more than others. China alone is responsible for 22% of new cancer cases and almost 27% of global cancer deaths (CancerStatisticsinChina). Why is cancer such an issue here? Outside of genetics, this is largely due to the country's polluted environments, specifically the air pollution and the water pollution. China began seeing an increase in cancer a few decades ago when their industrial movement began. Pollution from the factories seem to be the leading cause of cancer in the Chinese population. This is a major socioeconomic issue because in order to clean the environment, factories would be forced to close or relocate. Initially, the Chinese government denied that cancer was a byproduct of pollution. Although recently they were forced to acknowledge its effect and has since been making an effort to clean their ... • 32. The Pollution Of Air Pollution Most people never stop to think about the sanitation of the air around them. The only places that people ruminate over air quality are largely populated states and cities. One of these places is California. Ominous clouds of smog and polluted air constantly hover over the citizens. These people don't ever look up and worry, because smog is a usual appearance. This issue destroys not only the earth and its atmosphere, but the very center of our lives: our bodies' health. Particulate pollutants are like the retroviruses of the world: well–rounded and dangerous. Air pollution is the largest ecological issue of our time because the contaminated air lingers all over the world constantly being augmented to, and further threatening the world and those who lives in it. As a state that is car–centric, California has been harassed by air pollution for decades. Even one of California's most famous cities, Los Angeles, is known for the cloud of smog. National Geographic even comments on the daily emissions from factories and automobiles in the city saying, "In the past 150 years, such activities have pumped enough carbon dioxide into the atmosphere to raise its levels higher than they have been for hundreds of thousands of years." ("Air Pollution Facts, Air Pollution Effects, Air Pollution Solutions, Air Pollution Causes – National Geographic.") Pollution In Community Pollution Las Vegas, Nevada and the surrounding Clark County ranks in the 90–100th percentile for the dirtiest/worst counties in the U.S. in terms of pollution from Carbon Monoxide emissions, Nitrogen Oxide emissions, PM–2.5 emissions, PM–10 emissions, and Sulfur Dioxide emissions (Scorecard, 2011b). These same pollutants are known to cause cytotoxic and functional damages to human airways through oxidative stress and inflammation; which are linked to respiratory diseases in children (Ferrante, Antona, Malizia, Montalbano, & La Grutta, 2016). Currently, Clark County is home to 29,146 children with asthma and 130,553 adults with asthma; that's 7.55% of the population of 2,114,801 (American Lung Association, 2017). There seems to be a correlation between the high levels of pollution in Clark County and the high numbers of people with asthma that is impacting the community's quality of life in terms of health and the economy, and it is having an adverse effect on the environment as well. Body: Clark County scores badly in the air quality category of tests from different organizations. For instance, the American Lung Association (ALA) uses readings from the Environmental Protection Agency's Air Quality System (AQS) for a period of three years and derives a weighted average; the ALA then assigns a grade associated with this average to counties in the U.S. (American Lung Association, 2017b). • 36. Human Pollution Humans are Killing the Earth: Ocean Edition The world is dying. It is being overrun with human pollution. Nobody notices where the most polluted parts are in the ocean, until they see trash floating upon waves, which then washes onto the shores. Animals get tangled up and cannot escape from human filth. There is no escape for them. There is no way for them to swim freely without getting tangled up. This is why people need to help prevent trash from getting into the oceans. Even if helping prevents trash from entering the ocean cost more money than allowing it to enter the water system, it will prevent ecosystems, environments and their climates from perishing. One reason why people should not throw trash in the ocean is that it harms ecosystems. Ecosystems in the world are already in trouble from humans, but when people throw trash in the ocean it affects the animals in the ocean, animals on land, while also negatively affecting humans. To illustrate, "The ocean is the largest ecosystem on earth and provides 99 percent of the living space for life" (Baher). Thus, the oceans have more importance than most people think, so people need to protect it. Another reason people need to protect the oceans is because the oceans and organisms inhabiting it aren't capable of taking care of it. The author points out that, "Pacific Regional Environment Program (SPREP)'s Director General Kosi Latu noted that plastic was found in 97 percent of fish species studied in the Pacific alone.WEF ... Ever since we were born there has always been a problem with harmful things on our planet. Humans have tried an enormous amount of ideas trying to help the planet. Adults tell the young kids to always recycle or to help the Earth by planting a tree. Those two ideas are spread around the entire world, but there are certain things going around that are not helping the Earth. They are called pollutants. The waste produced by animals can get washed into rivers or streams when it rains and then that waste gets mixed up with other chemicals which forms a giant disaster. Even though the large problems are mostly talked about there are other pollutants that have a huge impact but aren't talked about as much. An example is soil pollution. This is split into two causes: manmade and naturally made. Manmade includes accidental spills, transportation and cracked paint chips. Leaks of gasoline and diesel, releasing chemicals from vehicles and just lead based paint being cracked off can cause soil pollution. Also the waste in landfills may leak into the ground or generate polluted vapors. However, natural causes can be much more of a problem than manmade. Leaks from sewer lines and natural accumulation of compounds in soil due to imbalances between atmospheric deposition are both natural events that are ruining the earth's ground (Soil Pollution Causes, 2017). Light pollution is when you excessively use your electricity. Your parents would always tell you to turn off the lights that you aren't using or unplug any device that is not needed. • 42. Environmental Pollution The world faces many issues, but the most important which will affect people living on this planet is that it is slowly deteriorating. Pollution, excessive greenhouse gases, and the ozone layer depletion are causing the environment to slowly degrade and cause chronic and fatal health issues such as cancer. One of the main ways to help the environment be a better place is by having businesses be more environmentally friendly. Businesses don't have to put a lot of effort in helping the environment, but instead small changes can make a big difference. Businesses can help the environment by reducing their carbon emissions, reducing carbon capping, reducing pollution, and reducing the amount of greenhouse gasses that are being emitted into the air. Businesses helping the environment could also save money for the company and make the world a better place. Pollution is one of the main reasons that the earth is deteriorating. According to Major Causes of Environmental Destruction by the Green Tumble Editorial Team Today, mentions that "our world is becoming increasingly toxic due to the pollution in our air, water, and land. Additionally, having a rich vegetation around your home (and between the home and the construction site) will act as a natural filter for the generated pollution, reducing the amount of pollution you may come in contact with. So, planting in your yards or even pot plants in a balcony can help. The greener the better. Also, regular spraying of water around the home will reduce the amount of dust and exposure through inhalation, although the soil and water pollution may increase (but these are less directly affecting you than air!). However, if you believe you are already negatively impacted by a construction site in the vicinity, especially if you have been recently diagnosed with a medical condition involving the respiratory system, you may be entitled to compensation. Some of our world's most pollutants places have damaging effects, such as birth defects, the loss of thirty to forty IQ points, and life expectancy may be as low as forty–five years because of cancer and other diseases. This is enough reason alone to continue to address the problem of pollution. Pollution is when the air, water, land, and environment is made dirty and unsafe to use. This is done by contamination of the natural environment, which can be tangible to intangible. According to a non–profit organization named Pure Earth, toxic pollution affects more than two–hundred million people worldwide. These pollutants are created from different elements and affect our society and the human race in several ways. There are many types of pollutions, such as air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, food pollution, and land pollution that have been affecting our world greatly and the human race that live in it. One type of pollution is Air pollution. Air is one of the most important elements of our environment for our survival. It is a natural gift and a free asset. It is polluted in many ways. Land vehicles use oil and fuel, which create smoke. The smoke gets mixed with air and thus pollutes air. • 50. Pollution And Air Pollution One of the man–kinds biggest contributor to pollution is driving cars. Heavily populated cities, to be exact, are the most to blame for their horrendous living conditions. The pollution in Beijing has caused the city to be a hazard for anyone who breathes oxygen. According to an article from Forbes Magazine, "tiny carcinogenic particles known as PM2.5 reportedly at times are above 300 micrograms per cubic meter. The World Health Organization's recommended maximum exposer is 25 micrograms". Side effects such as early deaths, heart and lung problems, cancer, diabetes, birth defects plague the millions of people who live there. In a few years the city could find a simple fix just by switching to electric vehicles. The problem of atmospheric pollution due to automobiles is beyond the point of being a serious issue. Journalist Viola Zhou of the South China Morning Post said "As well as the health risks, rising ozone levels in China are also damaging its rice yields – a problem that could compromise global food security, according to a recent study led by researchers at the University of California, Davis". It seems as if the Chinese government might not have the issue under control. Although they have sent of multiple teams of officials to dozens of cities around Beijing to try grab hold of the smog problem, pollutant levels have risen to nearly 14% from 2013–2016 (South Morning China Post). According to the online source The Guardian, in May of 2017 dozens of flights had to be canceled and civilians were told to stay inside because the air quality was so poor. Li Shuo, Greenpeace's Beijing–based climate campaigner, tweeted "Sand storm + industrial pollution = airpocalypse in the middle of spring,". The levels of the particle PM10 were reportedly over 2,000 micrograms per cubic gram (Guardian 1). Living a healthy life is essentially impossible for anyone who breathes oxygen in Beijing. Lung disease amongst many other variables control the lifestyle there. If a change from fossil fuel powered machines isn't implemented immediately, the people of Beijing won't stand a chance. • 52. Pollution In Water Pollution Pollution is a major problem in water systems all around the world and in our creek. In our area, eutrophication and acid rain are the two main pollution problems in our area. Eutrophication can be caused by sewage treatment plants, home sewage systems, and farm fertilizer runoff. Acid rain can be caused by the burning of fossil fuel. Eutrophication causes plants to die and when the plants die, the bacteria from the dead plants use up the oxygen from the water, which causes the fish to die. Photo Credits to Alex Cathers My hypothesis is if the creek has higher levels of phosphates and nitrates, and lower level of dissolved oxygen, then the creek will be polluted. The levels of nitrates and phosphates should be near 0 ppm for the creek to not be considered polluted. The dissolved oxygen levels should be higher if the creek is healthy. Dissolved oxygen is essentially the amount of oxygen in the water. For the acid rain test, we put a solution on different rocks to see if the acid dissolved the rocks. The nitrate and phosphate test involved getting a specific amount of creek water, putting different solutions in the water, and matching the solutions with other vials to determine the state of the water.Photo Credits to Alex Cathers There were 487 macroinvertebrates that were found in total at the creek. 308 were pollution sensitive, 101 were somewhat pollution tolerant, and 78 were pollution tolerant. Vehicle Pollution And Vehicle Pollution If we have a look at traffic today, we see more and more cars that are powered by electricity instead of the ecologically harmful fuel most cars used to drag their power from. Although the first electric car was invented by the Scottish inventor Robert Anderson between 1832 and 1839, a crude electric carriage powered by non–rechargeable primary cells, between now and then the majority of cars we found on the streets were powered by fuel. But still, although more than 2 million electric vehicles now travel the world's roads, they only make up 0.2 percent of the total light–duty passenger vehicle share around the world. And still, this is a major step in the right direction. In 2016, the number of electric cars increased by 60 percent, and in 2015 by 77 percent. A research study was done in several European countries to see if air pollution was actually a factor that caused lung cancer (Raaschou–Nielsen et al., 2013). What they found had supported my hypothesis; they found that air pollution in fact, did have a relation to people's development of lung cancer. The more one is exposed to air pollution, the higher their risk is of developing lung cancer because of all the amount of particulate matter in the air. In addition, a different group of researchers tested a similar theory in Canada, but they went more in–depth and wanted to know what type of gases and/or chemicals, specifically, caused lung cancer (Hystad et al., 2013). They found that the leading cause of lung cancer from air pollution, was from long exposure to nitrogen dioxide, which is commonly found near highways because of automobiles. The closer the people lived near highways, the more lung damage they got from being exposed to such chemicals and gases from automobiles more frequently. The black smoke, and sometimes invisible pollutants, are causing harm all over the earth without people realizing it. Car pollution can cause disruption to human 's health, the environment, and the cities in just a matter of time and in many different ways. The air pollution from cars contains various components that all can factor into harming humans health. According to The Environmental Protection Agency's actions, they took away a key part of the pollution from gasoline:lead. This is a dangerous component of gas because it affects parts of the body such as organs, the brain, and the nervous system. Children gain the worst effects from the lead but everyone can gain bad side effects and problems from a simple part of pollution going into the air (Cars, Trucks, Buses, and Nonroad). Lead is a very harsh component of gas and is definitely a part of pollution that you do not want to expose kids to because of the even more dangerous effects it has on them compared to adults. Along with the elimination of lead, Baines states that "Diesel engines power most large vehicles like buses and trucks. They are also becoming more popular in cars. They use less fuel, but if they are not tuned properly, they can create a lot of black smoke and soot. It is suspected that this can cause cancer in some people" (Baines 22). If ... The artist uses rhetorical appeals to bring awareness to the warnings, threats, and stifling of pollution, and what pollution means to them. The visual image of trash over–polluting the ocean suggests that without proper care and consideration of our ecosystem, pollution can potentially become life threatening. The real iceberg is composed of actual frozen water while the fake iceberg is composed of crushed water bottles. The over–pollution of the area adjacent to the iceberg represents that man–made products are causing the pollution while the iceberg signifies the pure nature of the earth. The unrealistic trash "iceberg" is not proportional in means of size compared to the adjacent natural iceberg. The trash is instead portrayed larger than the iceberg; this metaphor suggests that the more the community pollutes, the faster the deterioration of the ecosystem will proceed. The polluted iceberg grows in size ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. Pollution In African Pollution Kate Galbraith, A journalist, released an article covering the condition and to what extent africa's pollution is currently at. The article was released by The New York Times on April 2014. It starts off by telling us how an air quality scientist was testing the air. The machine that was created in Arizona was man to calculate the amount of pollution in the air. While testing the air in Ouagadougou the machine clogged and was sent back to the United States of America for repair. Galbraith continued on how things such as vehicle exhaust, dusty roads to even cooking with woods, also known as inside pollution, all contribute to the worrisome problem altogether. Health was now becoming a problem as dirty air can cause heart disease, stroke, and cancer and was third highest level of deaths per capita from indoor air pollution of any region of the world said Galbraith. Ms.Linden, until 2007 did research on Burkina Faso, said that one of the major outdoor sources of air pollution was Industrial Activities when the population in Ouagadougou swell by 50%. In this Article things such as the machine to calculate air pollution malfunctioned while on trial in an african country. Kate also included how industrial activities played a big part in outdoor pollution sources. Galbraith kept a very informative tone throughout the article as she explained the situations and how it was being measured. I believe that Galbraith was great in giving detail and going into depth in how the problem was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. Pollution Of Pollution POLLUTION Pollution can be a very hazardous thing to happen to the population and the economy. If left to grow to worst condition it can cause health issues to the people of the affected area and can cause death which in turn gives fewer people to work causing the economy to drop to dangerous levels. Another way the economy could fall due to pollution is if indeed the problem of pollution is coming from the factories in the area which in fact helps the economy with funds. This example is happening in real life and in fact, is happening in China. With China main income coming from steel and coal this is a double edge sword for them. The Chinese government has been going through a tough situation that is leading to deciding whether they should work on the pollution problem as to which they would sacrifice economic growth. If the government allows the situation of pollution to affect the environment as it is now, then no economic advances will have any value. In the long run, if it were to keep increasing then this would keep taking away human lives and at the same time block economic growth indefinitely. How can a country maintain its growth if there is no more drinkable water nor water to grow crops? Not only would it destroy the economy, but it would cause the whole country to collapse in the end. Therefore, if we slow economic growth to protect the environment today, China will have its chance to continue developing in the years to come when a more stable environmental ... • 70. Environmental Pollution Let have a critical look at our environment as a complex system with many different interaction between its different components making life possible on earth. Unfortunately, human activities over the years have adversely affected the chemical, biological, physical and social component of the natural environment leading to environmental pollution and climatic change. In the United Kingdom for example, the 'Great Smog of 1952' cannot be forgotten in history when we talk about environmental pollution and it effect on human. The great smog of 1952 which was formed from steady smog missed with soot and sulphur dioxide from coal burning occurred killed 12,000 people in the United Kingdom killed (Fullerton 2016). This in addition to other serious environmental pollution and their effect on the environment and human has greatly affected policies and control of emissions into the environment. (Dunnings, ND) In other to control further pollution to the environment, environmental modelling has been a crucial tool in predicting the short and long term effects of human activities and pollutant in the environment. "EPA.gov (2017) define modelling as a simplification of reality that is constructed to gain insights into select attributes of a physical, biological, economic, or social system. A formal representation of the behaviour of system processes, often in mathematical or statistical terms. The basis can also be physical or conceptual." • 72. Fukushima Pollution The environment also suffers when floods happen. Chemicals and other hazardous substances end up in the water and eventually contaminate the water bodies that floods end up in. In 2011, a huge tsunami hit Japan, and sea water flooded a part of the coastline. The flooding caused massive leakage in nuclear plants and has since caused high radiation in that area. Authorities in Japan fear that Fukushima radiation levels are 18 times higher than even thought. Additionally, flooding causes kills animals, and others insects are introduced to affected areas, distorting the natural balance of the ecosystem. Floods disrupt normal drainage systems in cities, and sewage spills are common, which represents a serious health hazard, along with standing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Floods tend to further degrade already degraded systems. Removal of vegetation in and around rivers, increased channel size, dams, levee bank and catchment clearing all work to degrade the hill– slopes, rivers and floodplains, and increase the erosion and transfer of both sediment and nutrients. While cycling of sediments and nutrients is essential to a healthy system, too much sediment and nutrient entering a waterway has negative impacts on downstream water quality. Other negative effects include loss of habitat, dispersal of weed species, the release of pollutants, lower fish production, loss of wetlands function, and loss of recreational areas. Many of our coastal resources, including fish and other forms of marine production, are dependent on the nutrients supplied from the land during floods. The negative effects of floodwaters on coastal marine environments are mainly due to the introduction of excess sediment and nutrients, and pollutants such as chemicals, heavy metals and debris. These can degrade aquatic habitats, lower water quality, reduce coastal production, and contaminate coastal food ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Pollution Of The Ocean Pollution So many things are taken for granted in this world. Visiting places like the Dominican Republic and Hawaii is exciting and beautiful. They are a serene and relaxing place to be, but this beauty is in jeopardy. Pollution of the ocean causes these exotic beaches to become unpleasing to the senses. The pollution of the ocean problem goes much deeper than just looking unpleasant. From sea life to the environmental impacts, pollution in the ocean is an immediate and growing problem that must be addressed. Pollution of the ocean is widely seen all around. The litter comes in so many very different forms that are almost terrifying. It ranges from a cigarette to a 4,000–pound fishing net (Franc, 2013). Medical waste such as needles were even noticed in New York and New Jersey in 1988. The world's merchant shipping fleet in 1975 was blamed for 85% of 14 billion pounds of garbage dumped into the sea (Amaral, n.d.). Out of all of the garbage and waste in the ocean it is said that more than 80% of the garbage in the ocean comes from land alone (Mosbergen, 2017). In just one hour, nine minutes, and 44 seconds, a very large number of 2,877,783 pounds of plastic has entered the ocean (Leeson & Elliot, 2016). Today after all of the dumping that goes on there are over 25 trillion pieces of plastic inside of the ocean. While that is a large number, only 269,000 tons can be seen afloat the water ("Ocean Pollution: 14 Facts that will Blow Your Mind," 2017). The easier way of explaining just how much waste enters our ocean would be just to say "too much," but to be exact, in 2007 2.12 billion tons of garbage enter the ocean and just three years later in 2010, 215 million metric tons of plastic entered the ocean (Lonne, 2016). In 2006 the United Nations Environment Program did an experiment on how much plastic there was every square mile of the ocean. They ended up estimating about 46,000 pieces of plastic every square mile ("Facts and Figures on Marine Pollution," 2017). In the Northern Pacific Ocean lies the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. It is said to be about seven million square miles ("Marine Debris Impacts," n.d.). Plastic accounts for about 70% of all the litter in the ocean and can take a very short time or a very long time ... • 76. Marine Pollution I make my way down the sand with the scorching sun shining bright in my face, trying to reach to the cooling ocean as fast as I can. I feel the ocean's continuous movement of the currents shifting back and forth, making me think about how the ocean currents create the rubbish patches, gathering bits of plastic on the way. I wonder if people think about the consequences of littering before doing it and the harm that it has on the sea life? Over the last few decades human activities have become a danger to marine life, through marine pollution. According to WWF.panda.org over 80% of marine pollution comes from land–based activities, such as oil, fertilisers, general rubbish, sewage disposal, and toxic chemicals. As someone who cares about ocean and its sea life these statistics always saddens me to think that humans are the main cause of their harm. Just this weekend there has been an article in the newspaper about a whale's stomach that was full of around 30 plastic bags. The whale was then put down in Norway after they failed to rescue it. What we need to realise as people is that even though the ocean may seem big enough to hold a lot of pollution it's actually having an enormous effect on the marine life and could also start having more of an effect on us through diseases, transferred when eating contaminated fish that may have consumed the toxic substances. The newspaper article on the whale sadly didn't even seem to surprise me anymore, I have seen many similar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. Pollution In China Currently, most countries have made numerous environmental policies and spent lots of money to stop environmental pollution and protect the environment. In China, China's leaders were putting, even more, emphasis on the companies who make chemical production, especially after chemical disasters in recent years. Although China has made great process in supervision pollution, the serious gaps still exist in hazardous materials' oversight in China. Recently, there was uproar among Chinese families after a report of China Central Television, and the report revealed that about 500 students at Changzhou Foreign Languages School had developed illnesses because of pollution at school. This media watch summarizes three important news reports about the pollution at Changzhou Foreign Languages School from the mainstream media and investigates and analyzes the issue depend on five questions. (Hernández 2016) On April 19, 2016, the journalist from the New York Times, Javier C. Hernández reported a serious incident in eastern China. The news states that about 500 students from the Changzhou Foreign Languages School had developed illnesses, and even a few students had leukemia, possibly due to the pollution around the school. Although pupils and their guardians at the new campus of Changzhou Foreign Languages School had reflected this problem to the local government because some students had some healthy problem and a bad smell surrounded the buildings, the local government stated that ...
