• Rock music was began as "rock and roll" in the United States round
the 1950s, and divided into a different styles lain the 1960s.
• It is musically concentrated on the electric guitar as principal
instrument.
• The lyrics often express romantic love but also strong general feeling.

3. Different rock styles
• Rock n Roll - from which rock music was found.
• Garage rock - was a form of amateurish rock music, particularly
prevalent in North America in the mid-1960s.
• Punk rock – Rooted in garage rock and other forms of what is now
known as protopunk music.
• Glam rock emerged out of the English psychedelic and art rock scenes
of the late 1960s.
