The origins of rock music is traced back as early as the 1940s, developing from
the late 1940s to the 1960s.
1940s: Rock and roll began with artists such as Roy Brown, Fats Domino,
Muddy Waters and more.
1950s: During the 50s, new rock artists were introduced, particularly Chuck
Berry, brought rock music as an “aggressive attack” opposed to the safe pop
music which was popular that time.
1960s: With a different kind of approach to music through rock, Berry fans,
particularly the Rolling Stones, had extended rock music to songs which
embraced rebellion in youth which caused controversy, but at the same time
extended rock music to new heights.

6. Alternative Rock Magazines
My magazine will be an alternative rock magazine.
Alternative rock magazines differentiate from rock
magazines as they have a more rebellious look and the
content is focused on Alternative rock music.
7. Indie Pop
• The main artist of my magazine is an indie pop artist, although my
magazine is alternative rock. However, indie pop being a subgenre of
alternative rock I wanted to include some elements of it within my
magazine
• Indie pop is a subgenre of Alternative Rock, which begun in the United
Kingdom during the 1980s with bands such as ‘The Smiths’. Indie pop
differentiates from Indie rock because it’s melodic and angst-free, unlike
the ‘rock’ genre.
• It’s also traced back to Scotland’s post-punk bands on the Postcard
Records label in the early 1980s, with bands such as Josef K and Orange
Juice.
