• The instrumental rock n’ roll lead into creating surf
music.
• It died out as the British invasion on Rock music
started in 1964
• 1960’s Rock n’ roll started to die out and British Rock
artists started up
3. Defining Rock music
• Rock bands usually use a mixture of Electric, bass and acoustic
guitar, drums, piano and keyboard
• They often use electronic devices like synthesizers.
• Song based music with a 4/4 time signature having a strophic
form(verse-chorus).
• Lyrics are usually to do with either romance, social or political
issues.
4. Sub-Genres
• Rock has over 200 sub-genres evolving between the 1940’s
and 2000.
• It also has 25 fusion genres from afro-rock to pop rock and rap
rock
