USA and in England in 1960.
• It arose from earlier genres such as jazz or blues.

reflects social discontent. Punk songs are a way of
protest.
• Fans have ideals against the state and usually wear
extravagant clothes and hair crests.

• Grunge arose from rock in 1980 in Washington (USA).
• This music is about social marginalization and freedom.
• Grunge songs are

singer (Kurt Donald Cobain) died on April 5, 1994.

• It emerged in the late sixties and early seventies.
• Heavy metal is faster and more powerful than rock.
• Its songs are about extreme emotions and the dark.

• Heavy metal fans are almost always long-
haired and they wear black clothes.
• The three most known heavy metal bands are
Black Sabbath, Metallica and Iron Maiden.
