2. 1. Looking at the first pitch, "The Artist", what is your opinion of the basic plot? To what extent would
you consider the storyline to be unique and interesting? Please give reasons for your answers.
We received a positive reaction overall to this question; most people suggested that the
plot interested them because of it’s horrifying content and the potential it had if we
successfully put the trailer together. It seemed to be the most intriguing to those who
responded to our survey, and we has comments on our other possible film concepts
suggesting that the filming would be difficult, pushing us towards this pitch as a more
successful idea. We did have several comments under this question raising the issue
of how unique the concept is; apparently the voodoo horror idea has been used in the
past, so we have now been encouraged to look deeper into our film concept to put a
unique spin on the basic idea.
-Interesting antagonist
is a strength
-Most interesting
storyline
-ADVICE: Be
imaginative with
killings; look at ‘Death
note’ for help
3. 2. In terms of the idea for the plot, what would you change, if anything? Please give reasons for your
answers.
The general feedback we got on this question suggested to us that we should add a new plot development to the voodoo idea in order to keep our idea unique and stimulating. Some interesting ideas we had were to
make the villain into a ‘normal’ teenage girl, which we think we will use as this would also make casting and filming easier. The most interesting response we ad twas a suggestion to make the artist into a painter, who
paints the death of people. This was our original idea before we made the plot more generic, so we have decided to return to this idea as it is more unusual and hasn’t been seen as often on screen. Another
suggestion was to turn the killer into their own victim by having some form of delay on the voodoo painting they are carrying out; the villain begins by harming other people but doesn’t realise that these deaths will then
come back to kill her- she will become her own victim. This idea makes the plot far more interesting and involved and definitely allows us to work with an entirely unique idea. We have had ideas as to how we can
produce a trailer to show this storyline; we will base our film around the villainy and then distress of ‘the artist’.
-Artist paints harm
instead of using a doll
-Antagonist is a teenage
girl rather than an older
man
-Artist harms herself by
mistake; the story is told
through her point of
view
4. 3. Can you visualise this concept developing into a feature length film?
● Definitely
● Possibly
● Unlikely
● Definitely Not
● Unsure
5. 4. Looking at the second pitch, “Immolation", what is your opinion of the basic plot? To what extent would
you consider the storyline to be unique and interesting? Please give reasons for your answers.
“There’s a mystery to why a person’s life
is sort of normal in an abnormal way and
invokes potential action packed scenes to
the person battling for their own life”
“The idea that the character is being
controlled is good and can lead to an
interesting storyline but I can’t help but
think of the film ‘The Truman’ show”
‘The pitch wasn’t long enough for me
to give it any consideration’
“The plot line is very different to most plot
lines. It shows the world in a different way
and how it could be. The idea i would say is
pretty unique, however I would say it needs
to be a little more dramatic to engage the
audience more”
6. 5. In terms of the idea for the plot, what would you change, if anything? Please give reasons for your
answers.
Opinions/comments:
● Doesn’t sound exciting because the plot isn’t clear
● Plot may come across basic
● Include more conventions of the genre to make it
clearer
● More ideas needed on how the film will end
● A reason as to why the character is being
controlled is needed
● Make the genre more sci-fi based so it like an
experiment by testing the characters limits
● How are they being controlled?
7. 6. Can you visualise this concept developing into a feature length film?
8. 7. Looking at the third pitch, “K2", what is your opinion of the basic plot? To what extent would you
consider the storyline to be unique and interesting? Please give reasons for your answers.
“The storyline is
interesting, as it is
realistic.”
“It is a unique storyline, and interesting
find out why the drug was implemented
and how the government control it.”
“Similar ideas have been
used in novels and films
before. The idea sounds
fairly interesting, but not
necessarily that unique.”
“Interesting, but not that
unique.”
“I got goosebumps listening to the plot
because of the idea that a drug is the
basis for society’s control has never been
heard before.”
“The idea is original and the start
of a gripping story.”
We received a mixed response to “K2”
as over half of the respondents
believed it was too similar to
“Divergent.” However, 6 out of 14
respondents liked the potential in the
storyline, of how they would like to
know the backstory of why the
government had implemented the drug,
Also, 9 believed that the idea of the a
drug being the basis of the control of
society is very gripping, aswell as the
exploration of the lengths that the
government/society go to to control the
population.
9. 8. In terms of the idea for the plot, what would you change, if anything? Please give reasons for your
answers.
Comments:
● Include a plot twist.
● Make sure it doesn’t turn into “Divergent.”
● Include twists and turns within the plot- less
cliche.
● Include why rebellion has taken place.
● Make a normal flu jab that includes “K2”, so
people will find it more frightening as it could
happen to them.
● What would happen if the drug doesn’t have
an antidote?
● What are the government's intentions?
10. 9. Can you visualise this concept developing into a feature length film?
You can see that seven people thought
that K2 was a concept that “definitely”
could develop into a feature length film. 5
thought “possibly,” 1 thought “unlikely”
and another was “unsure.”
11. 10. Which is your favourite pitch, out of the three?
Ideas
● The Artist
● Immolation
● K2
Results
Out of the three, ‘K2’ had proven to
be the most popular out of the
three, having a total of 8 responses.
The result with the second highest
amount of results was ‘The Artist’
with a total of 5 responses.
However, Immolation had the
lowest amount of responses, with
only 1.
Reasons on next slide
12. Why did the results come to this?
The artist reviews - 7 ratings
Immolation reviews- 1 rating
K2 Reviews- 6 ratings
From the results, most people rated ‘The Artist’ as the
best idea, this may be because it has the most ‘unique’
plotline and many people have not seen anything like
this before. A couple of the reviews also mentioned that
it is the most ‘interesting’ out of the three. The reason
the results may have come to this is because the other
ideas; K2 and Immolation are very similar to other films
which have already been released.
By one rating, the idea K2 came in
second place out of the three. This
may be because it is quite similar to
the films Divergent and the Hunger
Games. However, the reason why the
results are so close is because many
people are interested in these films at
the same time.
With the lowest amount of reviews
and in last place is the idea
‘Immolation’, this may be because in
the pitch it is not explained in very
much detail and is fairly similar to the
Truman show and is a quite
complicated idea.
13. Conclusion
We believe that although “K2” was the most popular by three votes, we agreed
with one of our respondents opinions that it could be too difficult to undertake at A-
Level. Therefore, we are going to continue with our idea of “The Artist”, but we
have changed some of the elements of the plot from audience feedback:
● Change the voodoo doll to paintings, as it is more unusual.
● Make the protagonist a teenage girl, to make it more sinister for the audience.
● Vary the killings to keep the audience interested.
● Why are particular people being picked? We are going to choose people that
have “upset” our female teenage protagonist.
